SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA - The inaugural SoCal Preseason All-State Showcase took place on Saturday, January 5th at JSerra High School in San Juan Capistrano. And while the area is normally known for perfect weather, participants were greeted with cold winters like conditions that are not the norm in SoCal this time of year. The weather may have played a factor early 0n during the showcase, particularly during the 60 yard dash, However, players were given extra time to get loose and warmed up before jumping into the testing portion of the event.

With 85 players in attendance, the showcase was a highly anticipated event for the PBR California scouting staff as many of the players are currently ranked in their respective classes. There were also a handful of unranked players who saw their stock rise as they head into their spring seasons which gets started in the next 4-5 weeks in SoCal.

As we continue to break down video and scouting notes we will roll out more content broken down by position. In the meantime we wanted to highlight players who our team of scouts all felt stood out with their performances. Videos and scouting reports for players will be posted to their respective profiles in the coming days and weeks.

+ 2019 SS/2B Alex Seguine (Long Beach Wilson HS) opened the event running a 7.08 60 yard dash before showing off his twitchy strength at the plate during BP. Uses a back leg load with a medium leg lift trigger before driving his fast hands into the ball. Showed the ability to spray line drives to all fields registering an 82 mph exit velocity. Defensively he has smooth actions and quick feet with a strong accurate arm across the diamond.

+ 2022 OF/LHP Justin Cabada (Brea Olinda HS) once again showed well for our team of scouts both in the outfield and on the mound. Only a freshman, Cabada shows projectable tools in the outfield where his feet really work and his arm is accurate with developing strength. At the plate he shows some quickness to his swing while staying inside the ball and getting the barrel through the zone on plane. It's on the mound where he really projects with his loose, easy arm action and present command of three pitches. While not overpowering, he hits spots with ease. Velocity will come as he continues to grow and fill out.

+ 2020 SS/RHP Fisher Pyatt (St. Augustine HS) is the 55th ranked player in the state Class of 2020 and he showed he belongs on the list of top players in the state. Pyatt appears stronger and thicker since the last time we saw him in last spring/summer. There's noticeable strength in the shoulders and legs. That strength showed up well in his left-handed swing where there's present whip and bat speed resulting in gap-to-gap line drives. His defensive actions are so smooth it almost looks as though he's not trying before he unleashes his arm strength across the diamond. Pyatt is a San Diego State commit.

+ 2021 Will O'Neil (Newport Harbor HS) shows all the characteristics of a legitimate two-way prospects with his defensive abilities in the outfield and his ability to locate his three-pitch mix for strikes. His arm is strong and accurate from the outfield and he gains lots of ground with his long strides. On the mound he shows a loose, easy arm with feel and command of three pitches. At 5-foot-10, 160 pounds, the 50th ranked player in the state 2021 class has plenty of room to add strength and mass to his long, lean frame.

+ 2021 RHP Brian Uribe (Camarillo HS), the 15th ranked player in the state Class of 2021, continues to impress our team of scouts with his ability on the mound where he shows a riding fastball that he's able to spot to all quadrants of the strike zone backing it up with a slider that is a present out pitch and projects to be a plus pitch in the future. Mix in a fading changeup that he's able to put away lefties with and what you have a is a highly projectable pitcher that will continue to climb up the boards in the eyes of college recruiters.

+ 2021 SS/2B Justin DeCriscio (Orange Lutheran HS), the 34th ranked player in the state Class of 2021, is an impressive middle infielder with slick defensive actions and an accurate arm. Shows good range to both sides while keeping his head/eyes on the ball. Has twitchy strength that shows itself at the plate where he shows a balanced setup while keeping the barrel on plane through the hitting zone. Registered an 80 mph exit velocity. Quicker than he is fast presently, DeCriscio ran a 7.43 60 yard dash.

+ 2020 RHP Damian Ureta (El Rancho HS) immediately caught our scouts attention when he began firing a splitter that he commanded very well. Ureta showed a very good slider that he commanded in-and-out. Both pitches show considerable projection. Add to those pitches a running fastball and Ureta locked in his spot as one of the top prospects at the event.

+ 2021 C Daniel Briones (Bishop Amat HS), is the 16th ranked player in the state Class of 2021 and a San Diego State commit. Briones showed why he is so highly ranked in his class with both his bat and his defense. He registered an 82 mph exit velocity with line drives to the gaps while showing soft hands, a quiet body and hands behind the plate. He popped in the 1.87 - 2.03 range with accuracy to the bag. High ceiling player who is the type of guy every winning college program has on their roster.

+ 2020 C Adam Arroyo (Capistrano Valley HS) continues to impress with his defense, but it's his bat that has taken a big step forward. Arroyo was peppering the gaps with line drives during BP before showing off his big arm behind the plate during the defensive portion of the workout. But it was when he was catching pitchers that his receiving skills really stood out. Showed a quiet/still body with soft hands and excellent anticipation often beating the ball to the spot.

+ 2020 INF/OF Zachary Rodriguez (Vista Murrieta HS), a UCSB commit, showed very well at the event after posting a 7.09 60 to start the day. Shows some power at the plate where he gets and keeps his barrel through the hitting zone throughout his swing. Sprayed balls to all fields during his round of BP, usually on a line. Defensively his footwork was excellent and his backhand true. Shows above average arm strength - 84 mph across the diamond - with accuracy. Frame has room to add strength too.

+ 2021 RHP CJ Zwahlen (Dana Hills HS) impressed once again after our initial viewing last month in Palm Desert. Zwahlen has a long, lean, loose frame that figures to add strength. Shows a loose, clean arm and feel for three pitches that he commands to varying degrees. His mechanics are clean and repeatable and at 6-foot-3, 190-pounds with large feet and long limbs, he figures to continue to grow physically.

+ 2022 INF/RHP Jacob Reimer (Yucaipa HS) is a name that every college coach in the state will soon become very familiar with. The 20th ranked player in his class in the state, Reimer put on a hitting display during BP hitting four balls over-the-fence with ease. Has very fast hands at the plate and a strong understanding of hitting registering an 89 mph exit velocity. On the mound he was up to 82 mph with what looks to be a potentially plus changeup at 73-77 mph. A highly projectable player, Reimer is young for his class as he is still only 14 years old.

+ 2019 INF Blake Wink (Yorba Linda HS), the 131st ranked player in his class and a Fresno State signee, started things off by running a 6.77 60 before going into his BP round where he showed his line drive ability to all fields before registering a 90 mph exit velocity. A sure-handed infielder, Wink shows athleticism in everything he does on the field and a knack for slowing things down and letting the game come to him.

+ 2019 SS/2B Caden Miller (Bishop Alemany HS) set the tone early by running a session best 6.5 60 yard dash. He then took to BP with some aggression showing fast hands and excellent barrel control with line drive abilities. Shows strong defensive actions with excellent footwork and a strong accurate arm (79 mph INF velo) across the diamond. Miller, a San Diego State commit, improved his stock considerably at the event.

+ 2020 C/1B Tyler Imbach (Palos Verdes HS) has the size and durable frame at 6-foot-1, 175-pounds, that projects well for his future behind the plate. Ran a 7.17 60 yard dash to start things off before showing the power in his left-handed swing during BP where he has a gap-to-gap approach. Registered an 85 mph exit velocity. Popped in the 1.94 - 2.02 range with accuracy to the bag and a 75 mph position velocity.

+ 2020 SS Sebastian Murillo (Fountain Valley HS), the 52nd ranked player in the state in his class and an Arizona commit, is fully healthy and it showed, particularly on defense and at the plate. Shows silky smooth actions at shortstop where his tools should allow him to stick once he gets to school should he choose that route. At the plate his gap-to-gap approach was on display as he drove line drives and flashed some pullside power as well. Registered an 84 mph exit velocity.

+ 2021 C Nick Bacura (Mira Costa HS) is arguably one of the top uncommitted catchers in his class thanks in part to his advanced tools behind the plate and the power in his bat. Shows a quiet/balanced setup with soft hands and excellent catch/throw abilities popping in the 2.01 - 2.18 range with accuracy to the bag. At the plate he sprayed balls to all fields on a line registering an 86 mph exit velocity.

+ 2021 C/RHP Luke Jewett  (JSerra HS), the 11th ranked player in his class in the state, suffered a bit of a tweak in his back a few weeks ago but that didn't stop him from performing well at the event. After running a 6.92 60 yard dash, Jewett showed some serious juice in the bat at the plate where he sprayed line drives to the gaps and registered a 91 mph exit velocity. Showed well behind the plate where he is quiet with his body and has a big time arm popping in the 1.93 - 2.01 range on the day.

+ 2021 1B/LHP Kaden Moeller (King HS) showed very well both at the plate and on the mound. Has a smooth left-handed swing with some power in the bat as demonstrated by the few balls he hit off the wall in the gaps. Registered a 91 mph exit velocity. Flashes nimble footwork around the bag at first base and a sure glove there. On the mound he was very impressive flashing command of three pitches with his changeup showing plus potential.

+ 2022 C Andrew Pyle (La Mirada HS) is a two-sport guy who carries over the football mentality to the baseball diamond where his defense tools behind the plate were some of the best we saw on the day. Shows a quiet and balanced setup with very soft hands that allow him to stick it easily. Shows a good understanding of what is needed to be a quality catcher and should slide in nicely onto the varsity next year at La Mirada.

+ 2019 Cole Andavolgyi (Serra HS) is a freakishly athletic and strong catcher who remains uncommitted. Registered a 7.06 60 yard dash showing athleticism in his actions. Carried that hot start to the plate where his strength showed in his line drives to all fields registering a 101 mph exit velocity. Behind the plate he shows very good catch/throw skills popping in the 2.00 - 2.14 range with accuracy to the bag. Does a very good job of framing pitches without giving away location.

+ 2020 OF/RHP Cole Wentz (Fountain Valley HS) is one of those players that every winning college program has on their roster. He hits (93 exit velo) line drives to all fields. He runs (7.24 60) with excellent instincts on the bases and can really pitch although he didn't do that at this event. What he did do is show off some newfound power in the bat with line drives to the gaps that could develop into more power as he continues to grow and fill out. Shows a strong, accurate arm from the outfield where he registered an 82 mph position velocity.

+ 2021 OF/RHP Braeden Ross (Christian HS) is a long, lean, loose outfielder that does a lot of things well and will likely be a coveted recruit in short order. Shows feel for a three pitches on the mound, but his future could very likely be in the outfield where he covers a lot of ground with the long strides from his 6-foot-3, 185-pound frame. Shows a strong, accurate arm that doesn't have much effort in the throws. Registered an 84 mph positional velocity on the day. Shows sneaky power from the left side at the plate too.

+ 2020 C Aidan Booth (Laguna Beach HS) impressed with his athleticism from the outset when he ran a 6.80 60 yard dash. He carried that into his BP round where he sprayed line drives to all fields before registering a 91 mph exit velocity. He's big and strong at 6-foot, 195-pounds and shows very good tools behind the plate where he's quiet with his body and has soft hands. Sticks it well and receives without giving away pitch location. His all around game should make him a desirable prospect during the spring playing on a loaded Laguna Beach team.

+ 2020 1B/3B Shayne Simpson (El Toro HS) showed well all around after running a 7.30 60 yard dash before taking to his BP round with something to show. What he showed was a left-handed bat that has some present and projectable power in it. Gets and keeps his barrel in the hitting zone throughout the swing and incorporates the lower half very well. Shows nimble footwork at first base with a strong accurate arm across the diamond.

+ 2020 C Clay Liolios (Newport Harbor HS) has made a commitment to the weight room and the results are beginning to show themselves on the field. Always a strong bodied catcher, he's now a slimmer, quicker catcher too without sacrificing the power in his bat. Registered a 93 mph exit velocity and drove two balls over the fence during batting practice. The conditioning is paying off behind the plate too where he looks more comfortable and flexible. Arm is accurate to the bag while popping in the 2.03 - 2.12 range.

+ 2021 RHP/3B Cole Seward (Valencia HS), the 47th ranked player in the state in his class, continues to impress on the mound where his loose, easy, and repeatable arm actions should make him a desirable recruit come springtime. Shows very good feel for the changeup that fades away from lefties with sharp, diving action. His slider has plus pitch potential while his command of the fastball is very good. At the plate he drove some balls to the gaps on a line registering an 84 mph exit velocity.

+ 2020 1B/LHP Aaron Pulido (Helix HS), the 46th ranked player in his class in the state and a San Diego State commit showed why his left-handed bat has the makings of being one of the more special bats in his class. Registered a 102 mph exit velocity while driving balls to both gaps and bouncing a few off the wall and two over it. At 5-foot-11, 190-pounds, Pulido shows high level athleticism around the bag at first base where he is a sure handed receiver with range to both sides. He just started pitching recently and shows some aptitude on the mound with feel for three pitches, something to monitor as he moves forward.

+ 2020 OF/INF Brandon Burgos (Huntington Beach HS) showed why many college coaches are eager to see him this spring. Started the day by running a 6.87 60 yard dash before putting on a hitting display during batting practice. His right-handed swing shows some sneaky power and projection with his middle-middle approach and present pull side power. It was in the outfield where his athleticism really came out. His footwork was impressive as he routinely beat the ball to the spot and came up in perfect throwing position where he unleashed his big arm - 91 mph OF velo - that was accurate to third and home.

+ 2020 RHP Carson Hamro (Rancho Buena Vista HS) came in as known name for our scouts and he didn't disappoint on the mound where his live, loose arm was on display. Shows very good feel for a three-pitch mix with his fastball touching 91 mph on the day. It was his changeup that flashes plus potential at 78-81 mph that left our team of scouts intrigued and impressed. At 6-foot-5, 185-pounds, Hamro has plenty of room to fill out and add strength which will likely add velocity to his game too.

+ 2021 C Makana Olaso (Murrieta Mesa HS) has the makings of a big time recruit with his physical frame at 6-foot-2, 185-pounds, and his advanced catching ability, not to mention the untapped power in his bat. Showed very, very well in all facets of the showcase particularly behind the plate where he shows excellent balance and flexibility allowing him to move easily and quietly. Has a big arm behind the plate that popped in the 1.94 - 2.03 range with accuracy to the bag. At the plate he shows present bat speed with projectable power from his middle-middle approach.
