1/5/19 - SoCal preseason All-State. Uncommitted. 6-foot-3, 200-pounds. Tall, proportionally strong, athletic frame, long arms, legs and high waist with significant physical projection remaining. Prototypical first baseman's body. Simpson displays a natural, rhythmic left-handed swing path with an advanced, aggressive approach and whippy bat. Shows plate awareness and the ability to use both sides outfield the field with excellent hand-eye coordination. Lacks strength in frame to do big damage now, but will be able to drive balls deep into gaps for high doubles totals and ability to drive over right field wall regularly as he ages and grows stronger. Defensively, Simpson demonstrates soft hands, excellent footwork around first base, and the ability to turn the double play with ease. He is not a true base threat but will be adequate on the bases.
1/5/19 - SoCal Preseason All-State Quick Hits - Simpson showed well all around after running a 7.30 60 yard dash before taking to his BP round with something to show. What he showed was a left-handed bat that has some present and projectable power in it. Gets and keeps his barrel in the hitting zone throughout the swing and incorporates the lower half very well. Shows nimble footwork at first base with a strong accurate arm across the diamond.
