Badger State Battle: Scout Blog

By Wisconsin Staff

From July 2 to 5, the PBR Wisconsin staff hosted its massive annual 15U to 17U tournament in the Wisconsin Dells, the Badger State Battle. Nearly 70 Wisconsin travel programs participated in this event and we had a full staff on hand to take it all in, watching some of Wisconsin’s best play against their neighbors in this highly competitive action. We’ve taken the time to compile and share notes amongst our staff to produce the Scout Blog below, encompassing follow prospects and high-level performers coming out of last weekend to know through the rest of this summer and beyond.

In case you missed any of our earlier coverage on this event, click on one of the following links spotlighting the highlights from each of the four days: Quick Hits: Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, and Day 4.

The work below contains scouting reports on prospects to familiarize yourself, as the overwhelming majority of them remain uncommitted.

15U

BREW STATE BASEBALL ACADEMY

Noah Dreier, INF, Brookfield Central, 2023
A right-handed-hitting shortstop who’s shown well the past two tournaments we’ve seen him, in multiple ways. He’s a smooth defender with above-average actions and feel for an up-the-middle infield position, and he just has a natural feel for the barrel. Dreier tallied another five hits at Badger State. On Friday, he also came in for the team to lock down the save; in two innings, he struck out three, walked one. He was sitting 79-80 mph, touching 81, mixing in a change-of-pace breaking ball at 64-66.

Marco Falletti, INF, Wilmot, 2023
5-foot-10, 165-pound athletic infielder with strength in build; put together a very productive weekend from the plate offensively, going a combined 4-for-7 with two doubles. A loose, quick right-handed bat with some strength on contact. Showed a natural feel for hitting this weekend with some follow tools to watch the rest of this summer and beyond.

Keli Grennier, SS/2B, Menomonee Falls, 2023
Listed at 5-foot-7, 145 pounds. Right-handed-hitting multi-positional prospect; showed above-average range and speed while roaming center field, and we’ve seen him perform well on the infield. Has been a productive lead-off hitter for Brew State; 6-for-12 last weekend with three doubles and seven runs scored.

Luke Heinkel, 1B, Brookfield East, 2023
A 6-foot-1, 180-pound left/left first base prospect who helped Brew State Academy win three of its four games over the weekend. The first baseman showed some serious pop during his Friday afternoon game. He barreled a double down the right field line in the first inning. In his second at bat, he barreled another ball to deep center field but was caught near the track. In his third at bat of the day, he knocked in a run while collecting a single. For the tourney, he went 4-for-9 with four walks and two doubles.

CBT WOLFPACK

Jonah Conradt, RHP, Hortonville, 2023
A lean 5-foot-11, 145-pound frame; right-handed pitcher with wiry levers. Conradt broke out at our 15U tournament at The Rock a few weeks ago, and he was more or less the same version of himself, a quick-armed prospect to know inside the state’s 2023 class. His arm works very fast from a high ¾ slot, with athleticism in his delivery. In 4.2 innings this weekend, he struck out eight batters, walked six, four hits allowed.

Maxwell Kalk, C, Kimberly, 2023
5-foot-11, 170-pound left-handed hitting catcher, strong athletic build. Advanced receiver, soft hands and confident actions behind the dish; 2.18 between innings. Left-handed hitter, hits leadoff and went 4-for-8 on the weekend with two doubles, two RBIs, and four runs scored. Gap-to-gap approach; can spray hard contact to all fields.

Mitchell Grishaber, OF, Kimberly, 2023
6-foot, 150-pound left/left outfielder, lanky levers projectable frame. Left-handed bat showed barrel control. 5-for-10 on the weekend, all singles. Added strength will likely improve exit velocity off the bat. Beat out an infield single at 4.47 down the line, long strider.

Thomas Burns, RHP, Hortonville, 2023
6-foot-1, 165-pound right-handed pitcher. Lanky, long-levered frame, high-waisted, projects. Started on the mound against STiKS Black 15U on Friday afternoon. Short arm action, over-the-top slot. Low effort tall/fall type delivery, athletic leg kick, strong front side, works directly in line with target. Fastball worked around 79-81 mph, touching 82 mph, came out clean, flashed arm-side run. Relied on it heavily throughout this specific outing. Occasionally flipped in a breaking ball that sat between 66-67 mph, 11/5 shape, gradual action. Threw 3.1 innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out seven. Becoming a name-to-know in Wisconsin’s 2023 class.

Hayden Timm, 1B, Hortonville, 2023
6-foot-1, 220-pound left-handed-hitting first baseman with strength in build. Regularly squared up contact all tournament, going 5-for-11 combined with a pair of doubles, and he drove in six runs from the middle of the order. Sets up tall and open, rhythmic stride to even off a repeatable path that helps him land barrels.

EDGE BASEBALL

Michael Comber, 1B, Verona Area, 2023
Another prospect who performed well both here and at the 15U tournament at The Rock, Comber is trending up this summer; at 6-foot-5, 205 pounds, Comber uses his size to make some advanced contact, he recorded four hits on Thursday, including a triple and a home run, and he notched a clutch three run double late in the weekend in a narrow defeat to GRB Rays Yellow. Comber also pitched on Friday and went six strong, allowing just one run on four hits, two walks, and he struck out four. He sat 72-75 mph, up to 77, coming from a naturally tough slot that clearly made him a tough at-bat.

GRB RAYS GREEN

Jackson Hunley, RHP, Sun Prairie, 2023
The lanky and athletic 6-foot-2, 162-pound prospect has some two-way upside, but he showed especially well from the mound this weekend. While living in mostly the upper-70s in his dominant start against PTA Cardinal, touching 82, Hunley mixed in a sharp breaking ball, 70-71, that looks like a future outpitch. Hunley went the distance against PTA Cardinal, allowing only four hits and one earned run over seven innings of work. He also showed excellent control, locating almost 69 percent of his pitches for strikes. Athleticism, size, and a loose/quick arm has him as a follow inside this class.

Caleb Karll, C/OF, Madison West, 2023
A lanky 5-foot-11, 170-pound prospect with athleticism and a rhythmic right-handed bat that produced some hard-hit contact all weekend long. It’s an aggressive, fast righty swing off an uphill plane that marks for some loud contact upon connection. Went 3-for-4 on Sunday against Brew State with a triple.

Zander Rockow, OF, Thorp, 2023
Listed at 6-foot-1, 210 pounds; a physical-looking athlete with strength throughout build. GRB Rays Green had no hotter bat in its lineup than Rockow, who went 8-for-12 at Badger State. Rockow is a premium athlete, which allows him to spray barreled contact to all fields, though he’s still learning how to better utilize his inherent strength in his left-handed swing. Few prospects in the class possess a raw power/speed profile like his, so Rockow will continue unlocking it as he continues to develop.

Jake Schaffner, INF, Janesville Craig, 2023
Listed at 5-foot-9, 145 pounds, Schaffner’s left-handed bat tallied five hits this weekend from near the top of the order. Showed a looseness to his bat from the left side, with a feel to hit, and considering this was our first look at him in person, he’s emerging as a name to know the rest of the summer.

Roman Trapani, RHP, Eau Claire Memorial, 2023
5-foot-11, 190 pounds; strength in long levers. From a loose, over-the-top slot, Trapani was sitting 80-81 mph, touching 83, early in his start against Brew State on Sunday, mixing in a slider at 73-76; an aggressive offering with some late action that projects well. He’s still honing his arsenal, but Trapani possesses some exciting weapons from the mound in a frame that projects.

Kale Twombly, INF, Kimberly, 2023
A 6-foot, 160-pound switch-hitter with athleticism. Twombly has been a reliable middle-of-the-order bat for GRB Rays Green’s 15U squad this summer, thus far, and we saw it for ourselves this past weekend. With natural switch-hit abilities, Twombly’s simple/loose swing off a fast and level plane looks very similar from both sides of the plate. A lean athlete, he makes some harder-than-expected contact already, and it helped him record four hits at Badger State.

Cole Selvig, RHP, Regis, 2023
Listed at 5-foot-11, 160 pounds; a break-out prospect in 2020 after a stellar ‘pen pitched at a preseason event in Madison, followed by another strong performance at June’s Underclass Trials. Finally, we saw Selvig in-game, and he did not disappoint. Selvig has done well to feature a real three-pitch mix; a fastball at a heavy 82-84 mph, touching 85 this weekend, with a changeup that features late arm-side run/fade, 74-76, and a breaking ball with depth and tight spin, 67-69. Works with some effort out of a loose, quick high ¾ slot. The feel he has for the three pitches is advanced, and he’s firmly landed on the prospect map.

Braden Smith, RHP/INF, Byron (IL), 2023
5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed pitcher/infielder. Proportionally strong, wide-shouldered build. Started on the mound against ISA Stars Royal. Clean and loose arm action, high ¾ slot. Fluid drop and drive delivery that works in rhythm, strong front side, athletic through release. Fastball comes out clean with some aggression into the zone. Sat 79-82 mph, touching 83 mph, consistently worked around the plate. Heavily relied on his fastball but mixed in an 11/5 curveball, 63-65 mph, gradual action. Settled in after a tough first inning, slowing only one earned run through six innings and striking out eight. A high-follow arm in Illinois’ 2023 class.

GRB RAYS YELLOW

Edinson Alonso, INF, Reedsburg Area, 2023
6-foot, 165-pound middle infielder. Lean frame with projection. Starts in a slightly open stance, toe tap trigger, hands draw back into load. Doesn’t get cheated on his swings. Bat travels on an uphill plane through contact, barrel stays in the zone. Launched a triple over the center fielder’s head in a pitch hitting appearance against Clutch.

Josue Figueroa, MIF/C, Sun Prairie 2023
5-foot-11, 160-pound switch hitting middle infielder and catcher. Lean frame with projection. Figueroa saw playing time both behind the dish and at shortstop this weekend while hitting in the middle of the order. Sets up in a calm and balanced stance. Showcased a short and compact swing with fluid actions. Ignited GRB’s offense with a two run single in the first inning against PBA. In the infield, showcased clean actions and soft hands. Behind the dish, arm played with accuracy, throwing out a runner at second base with a 2.28 pop time.

Chayce Osterhaus, MIF, Markesan, 2023
5-foot-10, 135-pound left-handed hitting middle infielder. Quick-twitch athlete with a projectable frame and room for physical development. Batted in the leadoff hole for GRB Yellow. At the plate, sets up in an open stance, strides stance, quiet loading actions. Bat path is short to the ball. Quick hands help with fast bat speed. Showed the ability to hit the ball hard to all fields. In the field, he showed off his athleticism with range on ground balls up the middle.

Drew Wonderling, C, La Crosse Central, 2023
5-foot-11, 195-pound physical catcher with a strong lower half. At the dish, he showed off smooth loading actions and present bat strength. Launched a ball over the left field wall for a three run shot in the first inning on Friday against Clutch. Behind the plate, he showed off solid actions. Blocked pitches well, has strong wrists that allow him to frame well.

GRB MKE GREEN

Dylan Questad, RHP, Waterford, 2023 (Notre Dame commit)
5-foot-11, 170 pounds; advanced strength and athleticism in build. Questad was the top overall prospect we saw Sunday in a great outing and look at one of the top-ranked prospects in the state’s 2023 class. Ranked nationally just outside the top-200, Questad wields some huge arm strength for a 5-foot-11, 170-pound arm. He’s a talented athlete who can do a little of everything, but he’s clearly been honing his work from the mound in recent months, as he’s gained a greater feel for pitching while still featuring big velocity. In the first, Questad came out sitting 84-86 mph, touching 87 a few times, and he was basically sitting 83-85 throughout his five dominant innings. He sharpened up his breaking ball, too, an 11/5 offering that flashed some late action. In warm-ups, his changeup looked effective with arm-side run/fade and could be a viable third pitch inside his arsenal in the long-term. The ease in which Questad is able to live in the mid-80s, in a five-inning stint, is one of the more noteworthy takeaways from his work on Sunday afternoon. He’s a high-follow prospect in the Midwest’s 2023 class, who’s only getting better.

Tyler Lusic, OF/RHP, Waterford, 2023
A lanky 6-foot-2, 170-pound prospect. Currently carries some two-way upside with a loose right-handed bat that is often on plane, with the size to leverage hard, lofted contact as he fills out the frame. Loose, quick arm that projects well given his size and long limbs.

Kyle Pielsnik, INF/RHP, Oak Creek, 2023
Another two-way type on this GRB MKE Green squad to know; listed at 5-foot-8, 145 pounds. Loose, whippy arm that has already tacked on some velocity to his fastball, sat 77-82 mph over the weekend, though he was having trouble controlling the newfound arm strength. A simple, repeatable right-handed swing with barrel feel working with an up-the-middle approach.

Addison Tevz, RHP, New Berlin Eisenhower, 2023
5-foot-10, 170-pound right handed pitcher with a strong lower half. Tevz took the bump against Midwest Halos. Tevz showcased long and loose arm action from a high ¾ window. His arm works well out front. Fastball was overpowering hitters at 80-82 mph. He complimented that with a tight curveball with 11/5 shape at 67-69 mph, helping him miss barrels. Tevz struck out six in four innings of work.

GRB MKE YELLOW

Max Northrop, 1B/OF, Waterford, 2023
5-foot-9, 140 pounds; left-handed-hitting leadoff hitter for GRB MKE Yellow. Friday, h
e hit a two-run double down the left field line in his second at-bat and later came around to score. That same game, Northrop ripped a clutch double to center field to drive in a pair of runs to win the game in walk-off fashion. He swings a simple, level bat that produces low-lying line-drive contact, with the ability to spray to all fields.

ISA STARS ROYAL

Cole Bensen, RHP, Bay Port, 2023
5-foot-11, 160-pound right-handed pitcher. Lean frame with proportional strength. Was ISA Stars Royal’s starter Friday night against GRB Rays Green. Compact arm action that works from an over-the-top slot, above-average arm speed for age. Steady tall/fall type delivery that he repeats well, quick to home out of the stretch. Lands closed off from target, works directly in line with an athletic finish. Fastball sat 81-84 mph early, more in the 80-82 mph range later into his outing. Slider impressed tremendously, low-70s with feel to locate and with bite. Tossed six innings of two-run ball, striking out seven and allowing five hits. His performance on the mound over the last few weeks has him trending up on our prospect radar.

Garrett Hietpas, 3B/SS, Appleton North, 2023
5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed hitting infielder. Athletic frame. Former Team Wisconsin Junior Future Games participant. Hit out of the three-hole for ISA Stars Royal 15U this weekend. Balanced setup with weight starting shifted onto back leg, minimal load, leg kick trigger. Loose, level path, line drive approach, all-fields type hitter. Advanced defender in the field for age. Fluid footwork with soft hands and an innate feel for himself out there. Fiery competitor that shows that each time he steps onto the diamond.

Boone Kirst, C/3B, Ashwaubenon, 2023
6-foot-3, 190-pound right-handed hitting catcher/third baseman. Athletic frame with plenty of room to project. Hit out of the five-hole in a talented ISA Stars Royal 15U lineup. Balanced setup, active pre-pitch movement, high leg kick trigger. Bat stays level through the zone at times, middle-away approach at the plate. Projectable prospect in his class.

Eli Zollar, RHP, Ashwaubenon, 2023
One of the more physical arms in the state’s 23’ class, standing at a hulking 6-foot-3, 225 pounds. He got the nod for ISA Stars Royal 15U on Friday afternoon and strung together a rather impressive outing. Long arm action, high ¾ slot. Simple tall/fall type delivery, strong front side, stays in line with target, upright finish. Throws with some effort. Fastball sag 80-83 mph, touched 85, while consistently working around the zone, flashing arm-side action at times. Showed feel for both of his offspeed pitches. Changeup was the better of the two today, sitting 73-75 mph, essentially a mirror image of fastball. especially his changeup. Curveball sat 68-71 mph, 11/5 shake, flashed sharp actions, thrown with intent. Tossed 5.2 innings of two-run ball, striking out eight and allowing five hits. Zollar continues to establish himself as a high level prospect in his respective class.

JBA CLUTCH NAVY

Brandt Rice, 1B, Wausau West, 2023
6-foot-4, 230 pounds; big right-handed bat that put together a strong weekend at the plate for JBA CLUTCH. Rice went 3-for-3 with an RBI during their game on Friday. During Rice’s first at-bat, he singled to left field and he doubled in his next two up the middle. A noteworthy performance from the weekend.

KENOSHA BRAVES

Brady Davidson, INF, St. Joseph, 2023
He was one of the most productive bats at our 15U at The Rock tournament a few weeks ago, and he’s here in Mauston to keep that title. He tallied two more knocks and was constantly on the barrel. Hit the ball hard all weekend. At shortstop, Davidson had multiple assists and also showcased his ability to work the back hand. Has a slightly open stance, can consistently load on time and has little difficulty adjusting speeds. Makes hard contact every time with a natural feel for the barrel.

MIDWEST HALOS WHITE

Seth Aiello, C, New Berlin West, WI, 2023
6-foot, 140-pound leadoff hitter. Open stance with little to no load and a short stride. Aiello showed a level swing and a line-drive approach at the plate. Went 3-for-6 with 3 singles on Thursday in his team’s doubleheader.

PBA

Noah Musolf, RHP, Franklin, 2023
5-foot-11, 150 pounds; a loose-armed righty who touched 79 mph from a thin, slender frame. He was mostly 75-78 mph throughout and just by using the fastball almost exclusively, Musolf carved through the Midwest Halos White order. He scattered five hits and three walks to earn a six-inning shutout, striking out six overall.

Nathan Williams, INF, Union Grove, 2023
Lanky prospect with a knack for hitting. Right-handed bat who went 9-for-11 this weekend with a pair of doubles. Williams starts in a balanced stance and uses a short and compact swing that consistently produces hard contact. Loose hands help him create some whip in the barrel from a pull-side approach. An interesting name to know coming out of the tournament.

PTA CARDINAL

Nathan Cumberbatch, OF, Shorewood, 2023
Premium athlete, 6-foot, 145-pound lanky frame, high ceiling frame with long levers. Made a huge impression in front of our staff at the 15U at The Rock event and he maintained that momentum this past weekend. Ranges very well in the center field, gracefully takes instinctive routes to baseballs and covers tracks with ease using his long legs and big speed. Loose right-handed bat with barrel awareness, though is still growing into an ability to strike the ball with more authority, especially to his pull-side.

Grayson Fluguar, RHP, Franklin, 2024
Listed at 5-foot-8, 145 pounds; thin, athletic build. Fluguar played up a grade level on Sunday against CBT Wolfpack, pitching against a talented lineup, and he fit right in. He has a live, loose arm that projects well as he continues to mature and develop; attacks hitters, competitive demeanor from the mound. Sat 76-78 mph in the first, up to 79, and most notably stayed in the 75-77 range throughout his entire start, which lasted five innings. Our staff has also seen him perform very well at shortstop and he’s a left-handed hitter with a feel for the strike zone, making him an early follow to remember inside the state’s ‘24 class.

Max Hennemann, SS, Oak Creek, 2023
Another prospect who paired a strong showing at The Rock with his performance in the Dells. A lean athlete with premium actions at shortstop, especially on the move. Ranges very smoothly with fluid funnels through his exchanges. Left-handed hitter, loose hands, smooth swings with barrel feel. Recorded five hits in the tournament with low-lying contact that he can spray to all fields.

Parker Wyatt, INF, Marquette University, 2023
5-foot-9, 155 pounds; wiry athlete. Above-average foot speed helps him move well on the infield and he has the arm strength to keep him on the left side. A simple right-handed hitter with some loose barrels, and he meets the ball on plane well.

RHINO WI

Logan Frank, RHP, Oshkosh North, 2023
6-foot-2, 210 pounds; physical build with strength throughout, especially in lower half. Stood out last month at our 15U tournament and looked similar in this outing at Badger State, only much more effective. From a loose, low ¾ slot, with funk and deception, Frank struck out nine in 4.1 innings and flipped in a 57-60 mph breaking ball that he dropped for strikes. Fastball sat 76-78, touching 79 mph.

SLUGGERS BASEBALL

Sean Reilly, RHP, Dodgeville, 2023
A sturdy, strong right-handed pitcher with follow arm strength; Reilly struck out six in 4.2 innings on Saturday night, sitting 79-81 mph, touching 82, showing confidence in a 10/4 curveball that he was throwing frequently, with feel.

STIKS ACADEMY BLACK

Tyler Butina, RHP/CIF, Jefferson, 2023
6-foot-1, 200-pound right-handed pitcher/corner infielder. Started on the bump for STiKS Black against Velocity Baseball. Short arm action, over-the-top slot. Tall/fall type delivery, works closed to target, falls towards first base side. Fastball was exclusively used in this outing, sitting 78-79 mph, touching 80 mph, held throughout. Tossed five no-hit innings, striking out seven.

Thomas Curry, C, Arrowhead, 2023
5-foot-11, 190-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Sturdy strength, physical/compact frame. Caught two games this weekend for STiKS Black and hit out of the three-hole or cleanup spot. Quiet and comfortable setup in the box, smooth load, short stride, stays balanced through contact at times. Present bat speed paired with premium bat strength for age, slightly elevated bat path, advanced barrel feel, gap-to-gap approach. Polished overall offensive game at the dish, just flat-out knows how to hit. Defensively, his best tool is his arm strength, which he has weaponized, frequently checking in on base-runners and back-picking when the situation calls for it. Has fully cemented himself as an elite offensive prospect in Wisconsin’s 2023 class.

Ryan Drumm, OF/INF, Edgewood, 2023
5-foot-11, 170 pounds; athletic build. Batted in the leadoff spot and played shortstop against ISA Royal. Drumm showed off his quick bat speed and present strength with a shot over the left field wall to start the bottom of the first inning. Drumm has quiet, though loud, tools; he’s an above-average runner with arm strength and he can clearly produce some hard-hit contact from the right-handed box. Just has some all-around traits that should make him an attractive player as he ventures into his prep career.

Ethan Hindle, INF, Arrowhead, 2023
6-foot-1, 170-pound right-handed hitting middle infielder. Athletic frame with room to add muscle. Top-of-the-order bat for STiKS Black. Quiet, balanced setup, smooth load, leg kick trigger, short stride to even. Simple, compact swing, bat stays level, middle-away approach, above-average barrel feel for age. Competes in the box and comfortable fouling pitches off to work deep counts. Arm plays short from an over-the-top slot in the field. Confident defender with athletic actions in the field, feet move well laterally, especially to the glove side. Steady hands, clean transfer, quick to release. Made a name for himself this weekend.

Adam Schilz, RHP, Warren, IL, 2023
Long, lanky right-handed pitcher. Came in relief for STiKS Black against CBT Wolfpack 15U on Friday afternoon. Long arm action, over-the-top slot. Tall/fall type delivery with athletic posture at balance point, high front side, open-toed landing, athletic finish. Fastball sat 79-80 mph, touched 81 mph, primarily played straight. Breaking ball worked around 65-67 mph, 12/6 shape, tendency to stay up in the zone. Also took the mound again on Sunday in relief, where he was up to 81-82 mph. A projectable follow for our PBR Illinois colleagues.

VELOCITY BASEBALL

A.J. Courchaine, RHP/OF, Bay Port, 2023
5-foot-10, 155-pound right-handed pitcher/outfielder. Lean, athletic frame with room to mature. Started on the mound Friday against a talented ISA Stars Royal 15U team. Long arm action, high ¾ slot, above-average arm speed for age. Slight drop and drive delivery with a closed front side, showed a slide-step out of the stretch. Fastball sat 77-79 mph, touching 80, flashing arm-side run. Curveball played at 67-70 mph, 11/5 shape, gets around it. Changeup was 72-73 mph. Athleticism works in center field, too, as he showed big range and the ability to track balls down on several occasions.

Grant Gill, C, Bay Port, 2023
5-foot-9, 160-pound prospect; compact/strong build. Emerging as a name to keep in mind for the future. He has a short, aggressive swing with extension that produces some loud contact from a timely barrel. Demonstrated a knack for hitting all weekend, underscored by a 4-for-4 game on Saturday against Rhino Wisconsin. He showed well on the catch-and-throw in between innings, substantiated by an above-average performance at our Fox Cities showcase in March, popping in the 2.20 range.

16U

BATS ACADEMY

Gavin Gawronski, RHP, Marquette University, 2022
A lanky 6-foot-2, 160-pound right-handed pitcher with projection. Gawronski works with a loose, quick arm from an over-the-top slot that creates some downhill tilt and run on the fastball, sitting 80-82 mph early in his outing against GRB MKE Green on Thursday. He was also utilizing a curveball in the 68-69 mph range that featured 12/6 shape with some sharpness, just didn’t have full feel to locate at the bottom or under the zone on this day.

Max Stocco, SS, Marquette University, 2022
5-foot-7, 255-pound prospect. A smooth defender with the hands and actions for the infield, second base may be his best long-term home, but he can be an asset there. Rhythmic left-handed bat that fits a top-of-the-order profile.

BREW STATE BASEBALL ACADEMY

Alex Star, 3B, Brookfield Academy, 2022
5-foot-9, 160-pound right-handed hitting corner infielder. Strong, compact frame. Crouched setup at the dish, smooth load, steady leg kick trigger to even. Loose bat speed, level bat path, middle-in approach, line drive contact. Showed some athleticism in the field, making a handful of diving plays to his glove-side.

Seth Thomas, C, Wauwatosa West, 2022
6-foot-2, 155 pounds; high-waisted, long-levered catcher. Lanky catcher with unique profile; hits leadoff for Brew State’s 16U team. Light on his feet, especially for his size, and he recorded three total hits Saturday. His size and speed (ran a 7.06 at our Underclass Trials event in June) make him a projectable prospect to know, as he’ll be able to add strength to his right-handed bat as he grows and develops.

CBT WOLFPACK

Jaeden Carstens, RHP, Neenah, 2022
5-foot-10, 205-pound big body right-handed pitcher. High ¾ slot. Sat 80-81 mph early on, touched 82 mph, four seam fastball. Flashed a cutter that played at 77-78 with cut action. Slider really showed feel and got better as the day went on, 10/4 shape at 70-72 mph, ability to lan for strikes and expand the zone.

Jalen Gellings, SS/3B, Campbellsport, 2022
5-foot-10, 188 pounds; sturdy/strong athlete. A ‘22 prospect who keeps enhancing his prospect stock as the summer rolls on. Efficient and reliable actions, defensively, on the left side of the infield. May fit best at third base long-term, but he’s currently a strong defender at shortstop. Smooth hands, funnels fluidly through exchange, plays well on the go. Right-handed bat, barrel feel with advanced strength on contact, uses both gaps. Also was up to 83 mph on the mound.

Jack Grable, LHP, New London, 2022
Large frame, strong lower. Came in relief against halos Saturday night. Short, stabby arm action from an over-the-top slot, some deception, in line with target, slight drop and drive, upright finish. Fastball sat 81-82 with glove-side cut, working it middle-in to right-handed bats consistently. Slider is 71-72, sweeping actions, needs more refinement to be an outpitch.

Carson Holmes, LHP, Hortonville, 2022
6-foot-1, 168 pounds; a lean athlete. Long arm action from a ¾ slot, and low effort involved. He recorded a dominant start against ISA Stars Black over the weekend, K’ing five in four innings, allowing just one hit and a walk. Fastball sat 75-77 mph, touching 78, consistent arm-side action, some hard. Raw feel for the breaking ball at 55-57 mph, also mixed in a changeup at 62 mph.

Benjamin Lee, RHP, Amherst, 2022
6-foot-6, 195 pounds; long levers, plenty of room to add strength. Lee was impressive for a multitude of reasons on Saturday, one being that he’s clearly gotten considerably better and gained a greater feel to pitch since he took the mound last March for us. Fastball sat 84-85 mph the first time through the order, settled more into a 81-82 range later, but remained effective throughout as he pounded the zone with it. Frequently opted to use the changeup as the go-to offspeed, a firm 72-75 mph offering with sink/run earned soft contact on the ground. Also showed a loopy 67-69 mph curveball that projects well as he refines it, but the feel to spin it is there. The Amherst-area prospect allowed just one hit in 5.1 innings, with three walks, and four Ks.

Joey Nerat, OF, Campbellsport, 2022
5-foot-10, 165 pounds; highly athletic prospect with upside. Left-handed hitter with a simple, advanced approach; short and sweet swings, makes some loud contact for his size. Shows an ability to pick and choose the pitches he wants with strike zone feel; a spray/barrel control type. An above-average runner who moves well on defense with arm strength. Looks like another prospect on this CBT Wolfpack squad with the arrow trending up.

Easton Plachetka, RHP, Hortonville, WI, 2022
5-foot-10, 170-pound two-way player. Plachetka started on the mound for CBT on Thursday in their contest against GRB Rays Eau Claire. Has a drop and drive delivery with a long arm action out of a high ¾ slot. His fastball sat 74-76 mph, while mixing in a 12/6 curveball that sat 63-65 mph. He pitched 4 scoreless innings giving up just 2 hits and no walks, while also striking out a pair. On top of his noteworthy pitching performance, Plachetka went 2 for 3 at the plate, with an inside the park homerun and three RBIs.

Brandon Vlcko, C, Stevens Point Area, 2022
6-foot-1, 185-pound starting catcher for CBT. Strong right-handed hitter with an up-the-middle approach; recorded multiple hard groundball base hits through the middle. Strike zone awareness as a catcher translates to the batter’s box. Behind the plate, Vlcko is vocal and carries leadership qualities; showcased both arm strength and efficiency, too. His pop times between innings were consistently in the low 2.00 range. He’s made some big gains in 2020 already. We first saw tall/strong backstop at our Madison-area event in March where his impressive physicality jumped out. He was a raw defender, but his innate arm strength out of the chute was very noteworthy. Vlcko’s done well to make his arm action more efficient all while maintaining huge arm strength (topping 84 mph at our PBR All-State Games event at the end of June). He was popping in the low 2.00 range in between innings over the weekend, repeatedly on the bag with casual, easy arm strength. He nearly threw out a runner in-game on a 2.20 on a ball low and out of the zone, to his right, that he athletically gathered and threw on target without really leaving the crouch.

Wendell Waukau Jr., 1B, Menominee Indian, 2022
6-foot-1, 230 pounds; large/strong build. Left-handed hitter with middle-of-the-order qualities. Long, fast swing with aggression, pull-side approach, capable of turning into a power-first type of bat; looseness and rhythm in the swing. Some feel for the base on defense and the hands helped bail out a couple of low throws in the dirt over the weekend.

EDGE BASEBALL

Aidan Baccus, OF/LHP, Madison West, 2022
5-foot-10, 140-pound left-handed pitcher/outfielder. Lean, lanky, high-waisted frame. Projects. Started against Brew State Baseball Academy on Sunday morning. Long arm action, high ¾ slot. Methodical tall/fall type delivery, athletic leg kick, closed shoulders, slide step out of stretch. FB comes out clean, plays at 74-75 mph, occasional arm-side action. Curveball showed a tight 1/7 shape, 62-63 mph, and could land it for strikes. Hit out of the leadoff spot. Level path with a line drive approach at the plate.

Max Steiner, RHP/SS, Verona Area, 2022
6-foot-3, 185-pound right-handed pitcher. Lean, long-levered frame that projects. Started against Turn 2 Athletics on Sunday afternoon. Loose and quick arm action, high ¾ slot. Tall/fall type delivery, strong front side, short stride downhill, upright finish. Quick to home out of the stretch. Fastball sat 78-79 mph, touching 80 mph and kicking bat into the 76-77 mph later in his outing. Primarily played straight but did flash slight cutting action at times. Changeup was 73-74 mph, thrown with fastball arm speed. Intriguing projectable arm to follow.

GRB RAYS EAU CLAIRE

Dylan O’Connell, SS, Eau Claire Memorial, WI, 2022
5-foot-5, 120-pound leadoff hitter. Has an open and tall stance with little to no load and a smooth stride. O’Connell is patient at the plate and is able to make solid contact on the baseball. Went 2 for 3 with 2 doubles on Thursday morning in his team’s contest against Sluggers Baseball. O’Connell also showcased a quick arm and smooth actions at shortstop.

Aiden Rosemeyer, RHP, Thorp, WI, 2023
5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed pitcher. Loose arm out of an over the top slot. Lands with his front foot square to home and his body falling off towards first base. Fastball sits 72-74 mph, topping at 75 mph and curveball at 60 mph. Came in as relief in his team’s contest against Sluggers Baseball. Rosemeyer pitched 5 innings, striking out 4 batters and giving up no runs, helping his team claim the 4-3 victory.

Auston Sigfrids, C, Webster, 2022
6-foot-2, 192 pounds; tall backstop with projection. Showed that he was comfortable behind the dish. Blocked and received well. At the plate, took on a line-drive approach. Had a solid day at the plate, hard line drive up the middle and a triple to left-center gap. Patient at-bats with pitch selection, and the build that helps create hard contact on repeat.

GRB MKE GREEN

Michael Carpenter, LHP, Arrowhead, 2022
5-foot-11, 150 pounds; thin, athletic southpaw. Long and loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Struck out eight and allowed just two runs on five hits, two walks, against Rhino Wisconsin over the weekend. Fastball sat 79-82 mph, touching 83, with the feel to spin a sharp 1/7 curveball, 69-71, while utilizing a changeup to righty bats that kept them off balance, 73-75.

Tyler Clark, INF/OF, West Allis Hale, 2022
6-foot, 170 pounds; versatile prospect with the athleticism to play multiple positions. Looks to fit best defensively up the middle of the infield. Quick feet and soft hands with arm strength; instincts and actions for both the infield and outfield. Right-handed hitter, short, fast bat, with feel for the barrel. GRB MKE Green’s two-hole hitter with top-of-the-order traits.

Vincent Gohlke, LHP, New Berlin West, 2022
6-foot-1, 190-pound left-handed pitcher, lean athletic frame. Arm plays out of a loose high ¾ window. REpeatable uptempo delivery. Fastball sat 80-82 with slight arm side run. Curveball played 67-68 mph. Pitched predominantly off of the fastball all game. Put together a strong start on Friday night; 5.1 innings, 10 strikeouts, and he allowed just one earned run on two hits and two walks. An interesting ranked prospect in the state’s ‘22 class.

Cade Honkamp, 3B, Brookfield East, 2022
6-foot, 180 pounds; physical, athletic look. Right-handed bat is the carrying tool here, as he possesses both a feel to hit as well as power potential. He went 6-for-7 on Sunday with three doubles. He has big strength in his levers that he uses well in the box, and it’s a matter of time and development until we see him turn those doubles into home runs.

Matthew Mueller, LHP, Brookfield Central, 2022
6-foot-4, 195 pounds; durable/strong build. Slow tempo left-hander who attacks hitters with a low-effort fastball, 80-82 mph, touching 83. Mixes in 1/7 breaking ball at 66 mph, solid action, showed signs of controlling it. Mueller controlled the two-pitch arsenal effectively over the weekend with relative ease, and his size offers some big projection.

GRB RAYS YELLOW

Jenkin Alexander, SS, Sun Prairie, 2022
5-foot-10, 175-pound left-handed hitting middle infielder, solid build, athletic. Disciplined approach, above average pitch recognition and plate awareness. Showed patience and aptitude to wait for his pitch. Defensively showed reliable hands and smooth actions that play through the baseball. Profiles as a two-hole type second baseman at the next level.

Cole Barton, RHP, Westfield, 2022
6-foot-2, 190 pounds; sturdy, physical build. Put together a really impressive outing against BATS Academy on Thursday. Fastball is heavy with carry in the zone, 79-81 mph, touched 82; some sink/run to it. Go-to slider offspeed, featured some sharp, late vertical action; 69-72 mph. He struck out nine batters in six innings, scattered seven hits and two walks without allowing an earned run.

Peyton Lee, OF/3B, Edgerton, 2022
6-foot-1, 165-pound right-handed hitter. Showed strength at the plate with a number of hard hit balls. Gap-to-gap abilities, went 4-for-9 on the weekend with four RBIs, hitting mostly out of the five-hole.

Dominik McVay, RHP, Mineral Point, 2022
5-foot-10, 175-pound two-way player, naturally strong build on athletic frame. Delivery works repeatable, plays from a high ¾ arm slot, firm arm action with some length. Fastball showed arm side run, topped at 84 mph, sat 80-82. Slider is go to offering, well-above-average feel and spin, throws hard with conviction 74-76 mph, 10/4 shape. Showed a ton of confidence in the pitch with ability to throw it in any count and put away batters with two strikes. Right-handed hitter, with a compact stroke that works the middle of the diamond. Hits near the top of the lineup and got several har barrels to the middle of the field.

Kase Reierson, 3B, Rio, 2022
5-foot-10, 160 pounds; strong/durable body right-handed hitter. Aggressive approach, takes convicted hacks with intent to do damage. Pull- to middle-of-the-field approach, ball jumps off the bat at times. Finished 3-for-9 with a double on the weekend. Demonstrated an overall feel and knack for hitting.

GTS

Brayden Marks, RHP, Elkhorn Area, 2022
6-foot-3, 210-pound right-hander; tall frame with thick/strong lower half. Marks put together a six-inning, 14-strikeout complete game on Friday – and he did not walk a batter. Marks was utilizing the slider first, a really sharp 72-75 mph offering with late bite, and he landed it for strikes when he wanted and tucked it low and away to righties for chases. The slider was spinning at an average of 2,300 RPM, too. The fastball was live through the zone, with arm-side action, mostly sitting in the 80-82 mph range, with the occasional tick below or above. Marks’ loose, quick arm speed and size have him as one of the breakout performers of the weekend.

ISA STARS ROYAL

Caden Capomaccio, RHP, Notre Dame Academy, 2022
6-foot, 175 pounds; athletic frame with wiry strength. A loose and quick-armed righty from a high ¾ slot. Came out of the ‘pen in relief on Saturday, sitting 85-87 mph with jump and arm-side run, some carry in the zone. While still honing its control, Capomaccio used a slider, 75-77 mph, that flashed late 10/4 action. A live, athletic arm worth following in the state’s ‘22 class.

Sam Dodd, RHP, Hortonville, 2022
6-foot-3, 190 pounds; big, physical build. Dodd lulls batters with a slow tempo which complements his loose, clean, and easy arm action that gets on hitters quick with 80-82 mph velocity that looks quicker through the zone. It’s a straight four-seamer from an over-the-top slot with some steepness that’s tough to barrel. He effectively matched it with a well-tunnelled 12/6 curveball, 67-70 mph, that flashes bite and depth. He struck out five in four frames against a highly competitive STiKS Black lineup. He also offers some two-way appeal for his strong right-handed bat and reliable actions at third base.

Jaicee Foster, OF, Green Bay Southwest, 2022
6-foot, 185 pounds; thick/strong athlete. Right-handed hitter who fits the mold of an impact, middle-of-the-order run-producer. Pull-side approach, physicality and aggressiveness in swing; makes for some loud contact when he gets into one. Sneaky athlete with foot speed who can play multiple positions, though slots in best at a corner outfield spot. Among the top righty power bats in the class.

Jared Hanson, RHP, Escanaba (MI), 2022
6-foot-2, 190-pound right-handed pitcher, large body frame, likely to fill out. Arm plays out of a high ¾ slot. Fastball showed finish at times 80-81 mph, touching 82. Breaking ball played at 65-67 mph.

Griffin Smith, RHP, Appleton North, 2022
5-foot-10, 150-pounds, lean wiry frame. Arm is loose and showed above average arm speed, works out of high ¾ slot. Fastball sat 80-82 mph, slight arm side action. Curveball at 67 mph. Changeup played 71-72 mph.

ISA STARS WHITE

Grant Meulmans, INF, Freedom, 2022
5-foot-11, 155 pounds; lean build with athleticism. Meulemans showed as one of the weekend’s hottest hitters and he showed a barrel-feel right-handed bat that sprayed hard-hit contact all over the diamond. He showed some favoritism to the opposite-field, having launched a deep fly ball to the right field wall that actually allowed him to circle the bases for an inside-the-park homer. Short, simple, level bat path that meets the ball on plane. Led off for Stars Black, has the kind of footspeed to profile at that spot in the order (6.90 runner in March). Fluid defender with all of the necessary actions at shortstop, including throws that carry.

Ethan Hoops, RHP, De Pere, 2022
6-foot-1, 160 pounds; Hoops had a nice performance on the mound against the Thundercats on Thursday morning, collecting the complete game win. After allowing three straight hits and an earned run in the second inning, he went on to retire nine out of the next 10 batters. Hoops showed command of the zone and flashed a sweeping slider with strikeout ability. He finished with a line of 5 IP, ER, 4 H, 3 K, 0 BB.

MIDWEST HALOS

Will Johannes, C/1B, Mukwonago, 2022
6-foot-2, 185-pound right-handed-hitting catcher. Strong, athletic frame with more room to add muscle. Ideal frame for a modern-day backstop. Balanced setup, slight hand hitch at load, short stride to even. Present bat speed, uphill bat path, elevates the baseball, gap-to-gap approach at the plate. Advanced raw power for age. Quality defender behind the dish. Soft hands receive the ball well with advanced arm strength. Recorded 2.18-2.22 pop times in game. Threw a handful of runners out this weekend, including a back pick to first base on Saturday afternoon. A major arrow-up prospect in this class.

A.J. Lausten, SS, Hartford Union, 2022
5-foot-10, 150-pound left-handed-hitting shortstop. Quick-twitch athlete with room to add muscle. Hit leadoff and locked down shortstop for Midwest Halos all weekend. One of the high-follow 2022 prospects in attendance this weekend and one of the top 2022 shortstops in the state, as he’s already shown our staff a couple times this summer. Easy bat speed, line-drive contact, all-fields approach. Above-average speed that busts out of the batter’s box quick. Savvy defender at a premium position. Uber athletic actions throughout, quick first step, soft hands that cradle the baseball. One of the strongest infield arms in the state. Continuously making a name for himself in a loaded 2022 class.

OCONOMOWOC BASEBALL

Brady Burrill, OF/RHP, Oconomowoc, 2022
6-foot, 175-pound right-handed pitcher/outfielder. Strong, proportional frame, defined upper and lower half. Short arm action, high ¾ slot. Slight drop/drive delivery out of the windup that is more tall/fall from stretch with a slide step. Strong front side, works in line with target, pright finish Fastball sat 78-81 mph, touching 83 mph. Comes out easy, primarily played straight with occasional sink. Curveball sat 70-72 mph, 11/5 shape, gradual action.

PTA CARDINAL

Max Semancik, OF, Franklin, 2022
5-foot-9, 170 pounds; compact, sturdy build with strength. Stood out for his defensive traits in center field. Confidently glides to fly balls while running efficient routes to the ball. A lead-off type bat, left-handed hitter, short path with some bat speed; quality of contact is strong, muscles it up. Increasingly becoming a name to know in the state’s ‘22 class.

Parker Thompson, RHP, Wauwatosa East, 2022
6-foot-4, 160-pound right-handed pitcher, lanky frame, slender with long levers that can fill out, projects. Fastball sat 77-79 mph, creates tilt at times. Curveball played at 64-66 mph, was able to get swing and miss as the game progressed.

RAWLINGS TIGERS

Aiden Leemans, RHP, Rockridge (IL), 2022
6-foot-5, 175-pound right-handed pitcher. Lanky, high-waisted frame that oozes projection. Started on the mound against Brew State Baseball Academy on Saturday afternoon. Short arm action, high ¾ slot. Tall/fall delivery with a high leg kick, works closed off to target at times, upright finish. Fastball sat 76-77 mph, touching 78 mph. Curveball was 62-63 mph, 11/5 shape, gradual action.

RHINO WI

Brandon Black, 1B, Bay Port, 2022
6-foot-2, 225 pounds. Right-handed hitter with some middle-of-the-order traits; imposing presence in the box, hits from a tall/open setup. Aggressive swings, uphill plane, generates some bat speed with inherent bat strength. Launched a deep triple to the right field fence in a clutch scenario to drive in three runs. Also moves well for his size, which translates to him covering the first base bag with some feel and range.

Jacob Melendrez, INF, Little Chute, 2022
Listed at 5-foot-7, 155 pounds; compact athlete. Four hits in three games on the weekend; right-handed hitter with a long, loose bat path, some bat speed, with barrel feel. Patrols an up-the-middle position on the infield well, projects to stick there. Natural actions, soft hands and clean transfers.

Deuce Musial II, OF, Notre Dame Academy, 2023
6-foot-4, 170 pounds; spindly frame with long levers. Right-handed hitter, loose hands create some whippy barrels with the awareness to square it up. A projection prospect who’s clearly still getting used to his growth spurt and lanky frame. Has shown the upside to keep him as a follow name in the state’s ‘23 class, did not look out of place playing up a level this weekend.

SLUGGERS BASEBALL

Bo Hanson, 1B/2B, Mineral Point, 2022
6-foot-1, 165-pound 1B/2B; strong build carries over in the box. Right-handed hitter, showed occasional pop off the bat hitting in the two hole. Bat strength creates hard lifted contact, ground rule double to left field, along with several hard flyouts to all parts of the outfield.

Kobe Vosberg, SS, Cuba City, 2022
5-foot-11, 190-pound, solid stocky body type. Hit three-hole for Sluggers, right-handed hitter. Some physicality to the bat; aggressive hacks with power potential. Showed well-above-average arm at shortstop, ability to backhand in the six-hole and carry it across the diamond. Profiles at third base at the next level, steady hands with average range.

Pearson Kephart, RHP, Southwestern, WI, 2022
6-foot, 165-pound right-handed pitcher. Pitched a complete game in a tight 4-3 contest over GRB Rays Eau Claire Thursday morning. Crossfire action from a low ¾ slot, sat in the mid-70s, up to 78 mph, while mixing in a breaking ball that kept the opposition off balance. Kephart struck out seven in the outing.

STIKS ACADEMY BLACK

Logan Dobberstein, RHP, Pewaukee, 2022
6-foot-6, 175 pounds; a spindly, long-levered with a high, thin waist on a build that carries huge projection. Dobberstein came out of the gates with some extra juice on Saturday, pumping an 88 and back-to-back 87 mph fastballs in order before settling back down into an 84-85 range. He’s impressed in the past with a variety of offspeed offerings, including a couple different breaking balls. He showed off both, a slider with sweep 67-69 mph, and a curveball that was a little more firm off a 10/4 plane – both flashed sharp action, though were inconsistent at times. Dobberstein was working hard and living in the low-80s come his fourth and final frame, but this game was more so an example of the lanky righty scratching the surface of his immense potential.

Rory Fox, SS, Catholic Memorial, 2022
6-foot-1, 175 pounds; a high-level athlete with a wiry/strong frame. Fox is arguably the top uncommitted prospect in the state. His easy, natural athleticism stands out first at shortstop, where he glides to his left and right with smooth actions on approach, fluidly funneling baseballs through exchanges; all-natural actions on the move, with the arm strength to thrive at the position. Left-handed hitter, simple, rhythmic approach, short path with bat speed that shoots line drives to all fields, with some favoritism to the left-center way. Also an intriguing pitching prospect, though he did not take to the mound this past weekend.

Thomas Harper, RHP, Wauwatosa East, 2022
6-foot-4, 180 pounds; high projection right-hander with thin frame, high waist, long levers. A couple of strong performances this summer already have his arrow pointed straight up. Long, loose, clean arm action from a ¾ slot, low effort; fastball sat 83-85 on Saturday, mostly stayed that way throughout his start. Fills up the zone with the fastball while mixing in a 10/4 curveball from the same slot with above-average action, depth. He’s shown us an effective changeup in the past, too, thrown at arm speed with run/fade. The frame and present stuff have him trending up as an uncommitted righty to know in the state’s ‘22 class.

Charlie Jarvis, C, Catholic Memorial, 2022
6-foot-1, 195 pounds; prototypical catcher’s build with athleticism and strength in build. He’s one of the top catchers in the state’s incoming junior class, especially defensively, with easy athleticism behind the plate that translate to his range on blocks and his pops from the crouch. Carry arm strength that plays up in-game with his accuracy. His mobility, flexibility, and situational awareness also contribute to his high-profile status defensively. Jarvis has also been improving offensively; a right-handed hitter with a short, level bat path with bat speed that produces some hard-hit contact into both gaps. He’s also a good runner, especially for his size and position; both allow him to play a passable left field, though his value is obviously tied to his glove and action behind the plate.

Joey Schneider, RHP, West Bend West, 2022
6-foot-3, 230 pounds; big, durable frame with strength throughout. Another prospect within this rotation who’s been performing well this summer. We saw it for ourselves on Thursday against Rhino Wisconsin in a dominant start. Fastball sat 80-85 mph throughout the entire outing, mostly straight, generates some extension which allows for some some carry through the zone. Honed his 12/6 breaking ball, sharper end-over-end action that flashed downer bite. He struck out eight in the start.

Gradin Taschner, RHP, Neenah, 2022
6-foot-3, 205 pounds; powerful, strong, durable prospect with some huge upside in the state’s 2022 class. Taschner relieved Dobberstein on Saturday night and, like his teammate, came out hot to open his outing, sitting at a casual 82-85 mph but he reached back for an 87 or 88 when he needed to on multiple occasions, especially in two-strike counts. He throws an aggressive curveball, true 12/6 with sharp/late action (73-75 mph), though it can get a little inconsistent he’s relatively new to throwing the pitch. The ease in which Taschner operates suggests he’s in possession of some of the 2022 class’ biggest upside and ceiling. He K’d six in two without allowing a hit or run, and he walked just one.

STIKS ACADEMY RED

Logan Libby, OF, Waukesha North, 2022
Lean wiry strength, 5-foot-11, 160-pound outfielder. Right-handed hitter, hits leadoff, above average runner, long strider, glides around the bases. Typical leadoff bat, competitive at-bats, was able to go deep into counts. Scored six runs on the weekend going 4-for-11 with a pair of RBI.

Ryan Roehl, RHP, West Bend West, 2022
6-foot, 180-pound right-handed pitcher. Tossed a complete game win for 16U STiKS Red in a close contest over CBT Wolfpack. Roehl gave up a pair in the first inning but settled in nicely to retire 17 of the last 20 batters faced. Roehl finished allowing seven hits over seven innings, striking out six. He pitched with a steady diet of well-located fastballs at 80-82 mph, touching 83, and a complementary curveball at 67-69 mph.

THUNDERCAT BASEBALL

Kaiden Forsyth, 3B, Oconomowoc, 2022
Big-framed third baseman; showed reliable movements up the line at the hot corner to profile that could make him an asset at first base long-term. Right-handed hitter; a feel to hit, as demonstrated by his ability to hang back on offspeed, took a curveball in the zone and shot it to right field on the barrel. Recorded another hard-hit single up the middle later on. Big size and barrel feel presents some power potential.

TURN 2 ATHLETICS

Austin Baker, RHP/SS, Eau Claire Memorial, 2022
6-foot, 175-pound right-handed pitcher/shortstop. Strong, well-proportioned frame. Started on the bump against Edge Baseball on Sunday afternoon. Short and loose arm action, high ¾ slot. Staggered setup on the mound leads into an athletic drop and drive delivery. Front side stays closed, closed-toe landing, athletic finish through release. Fastball sat 79-81 mph, touching 82 mph, holding it throughout his outing. Heater showed occasional cutting action. Breaking ball showed slurvey-type actions, sat in the 69-71 mph range, and used it to put hitters away. Hits from an open stance with high hands, reached base six of his seven plate appearances on Thursday. Baker showed great discipline at the plate working deep into counts and adding three walks on the day. The speedy leadoff hitter added three stolen bases as well. Showed good movements on a slow roller, and consistently showed off his above-average arm strength.

Gabriel Richardson, 3B, Eau Claire North, 2022
6-foot, 180-pound right-handed hitting third baseman. Strong, physical frame with proportional strength throughout. Manned the hot corner for Turn 2 Athletics and hit towards the middle of their order in each game. Simple setup at the plate, smooth load that puts his hands in a strong position to hit, slight leg lift trigger. Quiet hands, elevated bat path, premium bat strength for age, consistent loud contact when he finds the barrel. Slugged a couple just-foul home runs left of the left field foul pole on Thursday. One of the top power-hitting prospects in his class; a high-follow name to know.

Walker Retz, RHP, Boyceville, 2021
One of the weekend's best performances landed this prospect on the '21 map. Retz dominated in a seven-inning lopsided no-hitter on Thursday. He struck out 17 batters on 93 pitches, having walked only one. He started the outing in the low-80s and the velocity just kept climbing, as he touched 88 mph a couple of times in the seventh and final frame. At one point, Retz K'd 13 batters in a row. The feel for three pitches, the stamina, and the overpowering outing have him as a need-to-know incoming senior in the state, and we're hoping to get another up-close look at him again this summer.

Ryan Robertson, RHP, Eau Claire North, 2022
Following in Retz’s footsteps, Robertson tossed Turn 2’s second dominant complete game victory on Thursday. He scattered five hits in six frames and allowed just one run, striking out three. Fastball was mostly straight at 78-80 mph throughout, mixed in an above-average breaking ball at 66-67. A low-effort strike-thrower to watch from the Eau Claire area.

17U

BREW STATE BASEBALL ACADEMY

Ryan Blanchard, SS/2B, Kettle Moraine, 2021
5-foot-9, 165 pounds; lean, strong athlete. Interesting profile as middle infielder with natural actions on defense with above-average arm strength who can also strike the ball hard from the right side. On Sunday, he notched a double and a triple, as evidence of this. Swings a long, fast bat with some looseness in the hands off a plane that creates some hard, lofted contact. He’s also a heads-up defender with a sound inner clock that offers some intangible upside that can help him captain an infield. An under-the-radar follow in the class.

Tyler Gall, RHP/OF, Oak Creek, 2021
5-foot-11, 180 pounds; proportional build with some strength in lower half. One of the state’s breakout performers from the winter who has ridden that momentum to the summer. Pitched in the final day of action for Brew State Baseball Academy in an overwhelming start in which he K’d 11 and allowed just a pair of hits. Fastball sat 82-84 mph, touching 85 early, and settled into an 81-83 range as the game went on. Utilized a couple of different breaking balls; a 12/6 curve that flashed late bite that he proved to locate well, and a slider, 71-74, thrown at arm speed with more 10/4 shape. He can hit, too, a solid/simple right-handed bat from a pull-side approach, and he’s an athletic outfielder. An interesting, ranked uncommitted prospect in the state’s 2021 class.

A.J. Hamilton, RHP, Sussex Hamilton, 2021
6-foot-3, 215 pounds; big body with long, strong limbs. Back-to-back weekends in front of PBR staff, in Michigan and eventually at Badger State, Hamilton impressed our staff Thursday with his three-pitch mix. His heavy fastball sat 80-82 mph, while being able to maintain that velocity for all seven innings. Hamilton showcased advanced feel for his breaking ball for his age, and he was comfortable throwing the pitch in any count. His curveball sat 65-67 mph with 11/5 shape and sharp depth. His changeup sat 70-72 mph with running and fading action. His final line on the rubber was quite impressive; CG, 10K, 2 hits, 2 walks. His big frame also allows him to boost his own offense, and he did so in his own start by driving in three runs on a single and double from the right side.

Luke Wroblewski, OF, Sussex Hamilton, 2021
6-foot, 190-pound leadoff hitter. Has above-average bat strength/speed and a line-drive approach from the right-handed batter’s box. Defensively, he covers a lot of ground in the center field, displaying quick and confident routes to the ball. Another increasingly interesting prospect coming out of the weekend representing the 2021 class.

CBT WOLFPACK

Thomas Hunt, RHP, Almond-Bancroft, 2021
6-foot, 190-pound uncommitted right-handed pitcher for Velocity Baseball. Had been stirring some interest at Badger State after a couple of strong showings earlier this summer. Started on Sunday afternoon. Fastball primarily lived in the mid-80s, with a lot of 84s and several 85s. Mixed in a breaking ball at 68-71 mph off an 11/5 plane that he could land for strikes when he wanted, or drop out of the zone. He struck out six in his 4.2 innings of work.

Will Mattheis, 3B, Laconia, 2021
6-foot, 185 pounds; strong build. A left-handed hitter with a gap-to-gap profile, above-average bat speed with some strength on contact gives him an interesting profile, paired with his feel for third base. A reliable defender with some athleticism for the position with throws that carry across the infield. Ranked inside the state’s top-90 in the 2021 class.

Logan Schulfer, RHP, Stevens Point Area, 2021 (Wisconsin-Milwaukee)
6-foot, 185 pounds; athleticism attached to thick, muscled-up lower half. One of the state’s most live arms with big arm strength; fastball sat 90-92 mph velocity with relative ease early on, ticked down into the 87-89 range later. Fastball features some hard, late arm-side run that he showed he could spot on both edges of the plate, locking up hitters on called strikes. The changeup is the best offspeed for him right now, a firm pitch, 82-85 mph, that tunnels well with similar hard run/sink that breaks late. The breaking ball is an aggressive 72-74 mph offering, flashed bite, especially in warm-ups, so he’s still harnessing it. He made it through five allowing just one run on two hits, one walk, and he struck out five.

EAU CLAIRE A’S

Andrew Milner, LHP, Eau Claire North, 2022
6-foot-4 ,165 pounds; tall, lanky lefty who has landed on the prospect radar after pitching a grade level up for the Eau Claire A’s in Mauston. Loose, clean, easy arm action from a ¾ slot, fastball lived in upper-70s throughout, mostly 78-79 mph. Showed a raw but projectable 1/7 breaking ball at 64-66 mph. One of the prospects who made a name for himself at Badger State, and one we’re looking forward to another look as he begins to tack on muscle to his thin, tall frame.

EDGE BASEBALL

Jaydon Bott, OF, Madison Memorial, 2021
5-foot-9, 170 pound right-handed-hitting outfielder. Strong lower half on an athletic build. Batted second all weekend for Edge. Bott sets up in an crouched/open stance with a leg kick trigger, hitterish approach. Quick hands help generate fast bat speed. Swing path stays level through the zone, fluid barrel feel helped him produce hard-hit contact to all fields over the weekend. An interesting arrow-up incoming senior in the state.

Spencer Buskgaer, RHP, Oregon, 2021
Listed at 6-foot, 180 pounds. Among the more intriguing uncommitted righties in the state’s ‘21 class. Struck out five in his three innings against PTA Cardinal, sitting 80-84 mph, touching 85 a few times; four-seam fastball, straight type with a feel to locate. Three-pitch mix features an 11/5 breaking ball, also showed some control (63-65 mph), with a run/fade changeup that gives him three viable offerings.

Jacob Kisting, RHP, Verona Area, 2021
6-foot-5, 185 pounds; long and lanky levers with athleticism involved. A live arm with some big upside that he’s been tapping into over the past year or so. This time last year, sat 78-79 mph; was sitting 84-86 mph out of the bullpen on Saturday, touching 87 multiple times. Live, loose, quick arm with low effort, extension and carry through the strike zone. Utilized a tight, sharp slider, 71-74 mph, that earned some ugly chases under the zone. Struck out six in four innings of relief work without allowing a run against a competitive lineup. Kisting is becoming one of the top uncommitted arms in the state’s ‘21 class and he’ll make a loud splash the next time we update our state incoming senior rankings.

James Rae, SS/3B, Verona Area 2021
6-foot-1,195-pound, right-handed-hitting shortstop. Some muscle on a physical frame. He sets up in a balanced and relaxed stance in the box, with a short and compact swing that is complemented by fast bat speed. His frame paired with his quick barrel should lead to some projectable power. Profile might fit best at third base long-term, but he’s a reliable defender right now with an interesting raw power profile.

Jackson Trudgeon, 3B, Madison Edgewood, 2022
6-foot-1, 175-pound, right-handed-hitting infielder with room for further physical development; he spent the weekend playing up a grade level without looking out of place. Played third base and batted in the middle of the order for Edge. At the dish, he sets up in an open stance with a short stride trigger. His hands drop into his load. Trudgeon’s bat plays with a long and uphill swing, and has quick bat speed.

GRB RAYS YELLOW

Marcus Jaworski, RHP, Iola-Scandinavia, 2021
6-foot-3, 175-pound right handed pitcher. Lanky frame with projection. Jaworski showed off his long and loose arm action. He releases from a high ¾ slot, and his arm works well out front with quick speed. His fastball sat 83-84 mph, and he was able to maintain his velocity throughout the duration of his start. He also showed off a tight curveball with solid depth, ranging from 70-71 mph. Jaworski has an advanced feel for his breaking ball, showing the ability to locate the pitch for strikes at any count. A prominent uncommitted right-hander to know in the state’s 2021 class.

Mason Kirchberg, SS/3B, DeForest, 2021
6-foot, 190 pounds; all-around athlete with strength in build. Right-handed hitter, long and loose swings with bat speed; demonstrated excellent bat-to-ball skills, barreling pitches around the zone with an up-the-middle approach. Creates some loud contact, utilizing both gaps. Played shortstop for GRB Rays Yellow, dependable there, though the skills translate best to third where he can become an even greater asset. Tallied five total hits on the weekend, including a double and a deep triple to straightaway center.

Boone Mathison, OF, Tomah, 2021
5-foot-11, 175 pounds; twitchy athlete with lean build. Mathison offers lead-off traits from the right-handed box while playing an up-the-middle position, center field. His foot speed and instinctual routes to fly balls are likely his best tools, but he also provides his team with competitive at-bats atop the order; struck out only once at Badger State. Five hits collected this weekend, all singles, stole three bases. Loose, fast bat with some moving parts, good hand/eye coordination with some twitch; spray type bat.

Aaron Rice, RHP, Brillion 2021
6-foot-3, 185-pound right handed pitcher with an athletic frame. Ranked No. 38 in the state’s 2021 class, which makes him one of the top-ranked uncommitted arms. Rice showcased clean mechanics, with long and loose arm action. He works from a high ¾ window, and his arm works quick out front. He has a live fastball that was up to 87 mph, and he also showed off a changeup with arm side run at 76-77. Maintained his velocity for the most part, sitting 84-85 mph late in his outing. Final line: 6 IP, 7 hits, 4 runs, 8 K, 4 BB.

Brigs Richartz, C, Menomonie, 2021
5-foot-9, 180 pounds; strong, compact prospect who is young for the class. Left-handed hitter with a quiet, robust bat path that brings some upside to his overall profile. A gap-to-gap type with blossoming bat strength; homered to the opposite field on Sunday. Has shown above-average actions behind the plate in a showcase setting, too, offering up even more follow ceiling to watch.

Will Staviski, RHP, Brookfield East, 2021
6-foot-2, 185 pounds; a lanky prospect who’s added weight/strength to his frame that he’s using well. Right-handed pitcher with a quick arm from an over-the-top slot, some effort involved. Ticked up in his outing on Sunday out of the bullpen, where he was 82-84 mph early, up to 85. Extension and downer tilt on the fastball made it tough to pick up, as evidenced by his seven Ks in three innings, two walks and two hits allowed.

ISA STARS ROYAL

Thomas Ellisen, RHP, Kimberly, 2021
6-foot-3, 185-pound highly projectable right-handed pitcher. Started on the mound against Rhino Wisconsin 2021 on Saturday morning. Short arm action, over-the-top slot. Athletic tall/fall type delivery with a high front side, works closed to target, falls towards first base side at finish. Showed a slide-step out of the stretch. Fastball sat 83-85 mph, touching 86 mph early, kicked back into the 82-83 mph range later into his outing. Plays with downhill tilt and flashed heavy sink at times, thrown for strikes. Curveball sat 73-74, showed consistent sharp 12/6 action, legit swing-and-miss pitch. Might have thrown the best breaking ball of the weekend. Mixed in a harder, sweeping slider at times that sat in the 76-77 mph range. One of the top uncommitted arms in Wisconsin’s 2021 class.

Parker Knoll, INF, Fox Valley Lutheran, 2021
6-foot, 185 pounds; lean, strong athlete. Right-handed hitter who was constantly on the barrel this weekend for ISA Stars Royal. Quiet setup with fast bat that strikes the ball consistently on plane, above-average strength throughout contact, line drives, uses middle of the field. Above-average foot speed may help him fit best in the outfield.

Braydon Skenandore, 3B/1B, West De Pere, 2021
6-foot, 200 pounds; stocky strong corner infielder. Took some competitive, advanced at-bats all weekend for ISA Stars Royal, really was one of the tournament’s most productive hitters. Right-handed, swings with an intent; loud, obvious bat speed with excellent strength on contact. Barrel feel is advanced, capable of spraying hard-hit contact to all fields. Among the more interesting uncommitted right-handed bats in the class. Carries big arm strength and moves well for his size.

Bennett Spaeth, OF, De Pere, 2021
5-foot-11, 165 pounds; wiry levers, athletic. Another follow uncommitted prospect to come out of the tournament this weekend. Came into Badger State as one of its top-ranked uncommitted 2021s and he kept up that status. Right-handed hitter, loose barrels with just an innate knack for hitting; simple, quick swings, regularly on plane. Moves with fluid actions in the outfield with corner outfield arm strength.

Alex Windey, RHP, Wrightstown, 2021
6-foot-4, 230-pound right-handed pitcher. Hulking presence on the mound. Came in relief against Rhino Wisconsin 2021 on Saturday morning. Short arm action, high ¾ slot. Tall/fall type delivery, feet land square towards third base side of rubber, throws with some effort. Exclusively used fastball in this look, sitting 81-84 mph flashing sink.

ISA STARS BLACK

Wyatt Fischer, LHP, De Pere, 2021
Currently ranked 7th among LHP’s in the state’s 2021 class. Fischer impressed both on the mound and at the plate this weekend. The 6-foot-1, 165-pound southpaw has a lanky frame with long limbs and lots of room for projection. On the bump, Fischer showcased long and loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. His delivery is effortless, and his arm speed is quick, with his arm working well out front. His fastball sat 78-80 mph, touching 81 mph. He mixed in a changeup at 73-76 mph with late sink and fading action. At the dish, led off for ISA against Eau Claire A’s. Sets up in an open stance, bat travels on a long and level path through contact. Fischer was aggressive in the box, producing hard contact for multiple hits.

Bailey Prevost, OF, De Pere, 2021
5-foot-11, 165-pound right handed hitting outfielder with an athletic build. Batted in the leadoff hole for ISA in their first two games on the weekend. Prevost sets up in an open stance with a leg kick trigger. His loose hands generate quick bat speed, which helped Prevost produced hard contact throughout the weekend.

Jourdan Schuyler, OF, West De Pere, 2021
6-foot, 205-pound right handed hitting outfielder. Athletic frame with a strong lower half. Batted in the middle of the lineup and played center field for ISA this weekend. Shuyler sets up in an open stance, toe tap trigger, and he raises his hands into his load. Swing travels on an uphill plane, takes aggressive hacks at the plate.

Jason Van Den Langenberg, C, Seymour, 2021
5-foot-11, 160-pound right handed hitting catcher with an athletic frame that has projection. Showed advanced actions behind the plate. Athleticism shows in the field, as he’s quick out the squat on throws down to second and showed lateral range while blocking the ball. Strong arm that played accurate across the diamond. Threw a pair of runners out against Eau Claire A’s, including one with a 2.15 in game pop time. At the dish, he sets up in a balanced stance with a short leg lift trigger. Loose hands help generate bat speed. Long and level swing that consistently produced hard contact on the weekend, including a two run double off the wall in center field to lift ISA to a narrow victory over GRB Yellow.

MIDWEST HALOS

Sam Holling, C, Waukesha West, 2021
6-foot, 165-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Proportional strength throughout his frame. Saw plenty of times behind the plate for Midwest Halos. Simple setup with slight balance in the lower half, hands load into a strong hitting position, short stride to even, strong balance through contact. Bat stays level through the zone, line drive approach, untapped power potential. Works quick out of the crouch with a strong arm behind the plate. Pop times ranged between 1.97-2.09 between innings. Athletic blocker with comfortable lateral movement. A ranked, uncommitted backstop in Wisconsin’s 2021 class.

Will Brust, OF, Greendale, 2021
6-foot-4, 195-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. Lean, athletic frame with room to add more muscle. Primarily played a corner outfield role and hit towards the middle of the order for Midwest Halos. Balanced setup, smooth load, short stride, easy balance through contact. Simple and relaxed swing at the plate. Level path through the zone, line drive approach, exceptional feel for the barrel. Consistently hits the ball hard when he puts it into play. Also excels on the football field for his high school. An intriguing offensive prospect that remains uncommitted.

Joe Toetz, SS, Greendale, 2021
5-foot-11, 180-pound right-handed-hitting shortstop. Strong, durable frame. A middle of the order bat that locks up shortstop for the Midwest Halos. Balanced in the box, smooth load with some active bat movement prior to contact, short stride to even. Quick hands, short and level path to the ball, line drive hitter with some gap-to-gap power. Showed athletic actions in the field with quick feet that work in rhythm to the ball. Soft hands lead to a clean transfer, quick to release, and plays through the baseball. Another ranked, uncommitted prospect to follow in his class.

PTA CARDINAL

Maximus Graetz, RHP, Oak Creek, 2021
6-foot, 190-pound right-handed pitcher that swings it left-handed. Appeared for PTA on Friday against Edge Baseball. Fastball sat mostly 77-79 mph, touching 80-81 occasionally, with some regular run. Curveball was good enough to fool some Edge bats, keeping Cardinal in the close contest. Went six strong innings and allowed just a pair of runs early and that was it.

Jacob Hartlaub, RHP/SS, Martin Luther, 2021
6-foot-2, 165 pounds; among the more projectable uncommitted athletes in the state’s 2021 class. Thin, athletic build who’s trending way up for his work on the mound. Against a fierce STiKS Black lineup over the weekend, Hartlaub dodged barrels all game with a two-pitch mix of fastball and sweeping slider. Fastball sat 84-86 mph for much of the hard-working outing, touching 87-88 a couple of times each. Slider featured a lot of horizontal movement, some sharp, and it was his ability to backdoor it for strikes to lefties or get a righty to chase it away that made it an outpitch for him. He also offers some two-way upside as a natural, savvy shortstop with easy actions. Loose, simple right-handed bat that’s produced some loud contact for us in the past. A high-follow ‘21 prospect who remains uncommitted.

Jacob Thoresen, RHP, Oak Creek, 2021
6-foot, 199 pounds; durable, strong build. Relieved Hartlaub against STiKS Black on Saturday night to lockdown the save and win for the team; fastball sat 83-84 mph, touching 85, straight four-seam type. An arm strength prospect to keep an eye on in the state’s incoming senior class.

Anthony Tomczak, C, Muskego, 2021
5-foot-11, 185 pounds; strong, compact build. Right-handed hitter, long path, fast bat, uphill plane through contact; crushed an 89 mph fastball into the right-center gap against STiKS Black on Saturday night. A catcher with some bat strength; above-average actions behind the dish.

RHINO WI

Jaden Hackbarth, SS/2B, Neenah, 2021
5-foot-10, 170-pound right-handed-hitting middle infielder. Wiry, athletic frame with some strength in the lower half. Locked up shortstop or second base for Rhino 2021 all weekend. Quiet setup at the plate, smooth load where hands slot back, quick leg kick trigger. Loose hands, short and level path, line drive approach, fluid rhythm through contact. High contact skills for someone his age. Athleticism was on display in the field, showing a quick first step to the baseball and range to both sides. Hands play soft, cradling the baseball and allowing for a clean transfer to quick release. Intriguing uncommitted middle infielder still on the market.

STIKS ACADEMY BLACK

Eli Hoyt, RHP, Waukesha South, 2021
5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed pitcher. Twitchy, athletic frame with room to fill out. One of the top uncommitted arms in Wisconsin’s 2021 class. Hoyt took the mound for STiKS Black for their lone game of the day. He was locked in right from the start and rode that momentum throughout, tossing a complete game shutout with 10 strikeouts. Hoyt primarily used his fastball in this outing, sitting at an effortless 85-87 mph and his athleticism and ease of effort allowed him to hold that velo and then some – he started climbing toward the end of the start an even touched a couple 90s at the end. An impressive feat. He spun a handful of sliders in the low-70s range, too. Hoyt’s clean delivery paired with his live, easy arm suggests he’s just unlocking a potentially special ceiling.

Q Phillips, OF, Brookfield East, 2021 (Michigan)
5-foot-11, 180 pounds; premium athlete and an increasingly rising name to know on a national level. Switch-hit bat with excellent barrel control and strength on contact, helping him take what’s given to him to put the ball in play at a high rate with some bat strength; twitchy swings, a little more comfortable from the left side with a more natural feel to hit. Natural center fielder with a quick first step, glides to routes, makes the deep fly ball look routine; above-average arm strength, too. Aggressive baserunner who is constantly looking to take the extra base. Among the top prospects in the Midwest who is stirring some looks ahead of the 2021 draft.

Kellan Short, RHP, Catholic Memorial, 2021
5-foot-8, 170-pound frame. Strong, muscular frame with advanced strength in the upper half. Helped keep his team in the ballgame against CBT Wolfpack and it ultimately led to a win for STiKS Black. Sitting mostly 81-84 mph throughout, Short was pounding the zone while regularly mixing in a slower curve (64-66 mph) with tight bite and spin, off a true 12/6 plane, that fooled some bats. He went the distance, tossing a complete game having allowed two runs on five hits, one walks, and he struck out five. A ranked, uncommitted prospect in Wisconsin’s 2021 class.

Joey Spence, C, West Bend East, 2021 (Notre Dame)
6-foot, 195 pounds; compact strength in catcher’s build. One of the top left-handed bats in the Midwest. Spence brings about a quiet confidence to the batter’s box with an inherent feel for hitting. Simple approach allows him to smoothly square up contact, looking to line the ball back up the middle first and foremost, but he can spray lofted, hard-hit balls to all fields. His receiving skills have helped his pitch selection as a batter, and it’s made him a middle-of-the-order menace for opposing pitchers. He’s an above-average receiver with quick actions out of the chute, with arm strength, and he has proven to be an athletic and mobile blocker.

Drew Stippich, RHP, Kettle Moraine, 2021 (Illinois-Chicago)
6-foot-1, 185 pounds; strength in proportional frame. It had been almost a year since we’d last seen Stippich throw; fastball sat 86-87 mph with hard arm-side action, played heavy, tough to barrel. Mixed in one of the weekend’s best breaking balls, a hard slider, 74 mph, that showed bite with a feel to locate. Loose, quick arm from a high ¾ slot who pitches with an ultra-competitive demeanor; among the state’s top-ranked right-handed pitching prospects.

Grant Ross, RHP/3B, Pewaukee, 2021 (Valparaiso)
5-foot-10, 175 pounds; compact frame with muscle, sturdy. One of the more fierce competitors in the state’s 2021 class, Ross took the bump in relief against PTA Cardinal on Saturday night and found an extra gear on the mound that we had not yet seen in person. In a close game, Ross was sitting 86-88 mph, touching 90 a couple of times behind a loud grunt, with effort, that explodes through the zone; sharp, firm 73-75 breaking ball earned chases away, too. He struck out all five batters he faced while looking like a next-level, high-leverage reliever. Ross has obvious two-way upside, with a strong right-handed bat, line-drive approach, and defensive actions that should allow him to thrive at third base or second, though he can certainly hold his own at short.

Owen Washburn, RHP/INF, Webster, 2021 (South Carolina)
6-foot, 170-pound right-handed-hitting corner infielder and pitcher. Strong, compact frame that he’s added some substantial strength to. Washburn is also one of the youngest incoming senior prospects in the class. Another prospect on this roster who is earning some 2021 draft interest. Took the ball against PTA Cardinal on Saturday night and came out hot, sitting 86-88 mph, touching 90 a few times; some heaviness to it with life in the zone. Went to what was, in all likelihood, the tournament’s best breaking ball – an 11/5 curve with biting action, consistently sharp, with spin that topped 2,600 RPM, according to the radar gun. He punched out seven in his 4.1 innings of work.

STIKS ACADEMY RED

Preston Piranio, RHP/SS, Mukwonago, 2021
5-foot-8, 175-pound right-handed pitcher and shortstop. Strong, compact frame. Started on the mound Thursday in one of the weekend’s most dominant pitching performances. Tossed a 13-strikeout complete game having allowed a single run and hit along the way. Fastball came out sitting in the 80-82 mph range, and it mostly stayed that way, dropping down to the occasional 78 late. The slider is an effective go-to offspeed that flashes late, and it clearly did its job throughout his outing.

Dayton Rozinski-Hicks, OF, Ronald Reagan, 2021
5-foot-10, 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. Strong, athletic frame, multiple sport athlete that also excels on the football field. Swings a fast bat off a short and flat path with some twitch in the hands. Rozinski-Hicks went 2-for-3 on Saturday, including a hard-hit line-drive pulled into the left-center gap. As a 7.15 runner, he’s a mobile center field and moves naturally, and he also tossed out a runner headed for third base with an accurate throw.

Ryan Sell, LHP, Muskego, 2021
6-foot, 155-pound left-handed pitcher. Plenty of room to fill out his lean, high-waisted, broad shouldered frame. Started on the mound Friday morning for STiKS against JBA. Arm plays short from a quick ¾ slot. Repeatable tall/fall type delivery, athletic at balance point, shoulders stay level, throws across body at times. Fastball sat between 76-78 mph, touching 79 mph. Showed natural arm-side run and also flashed glove-side cut. Comfortably attacked hitters with the fastball throughout his outing. Curveball worked in the 61-64 mph range, 2/8 shape with sweeping actions, and got several ugly swing-and-misses. Projectable uncommitted southpaw to follow in his class.

Bradon Ahn, SS, Marquette, 2021
5-foot-9, 145-pound right-handed hitting infielder. Athletic frame with some strength in the lower half. Primarily hit out of the leadoff spot for STiKS Red 17U this weekend. Balanced setup with a slightly open front foot, hands load straight back, short stride. Short and level path, line-drive oriented swing. Athletic actions in the field with a quick first step up the middle, feet field in rhythm, steady hands to pair.

Joe Giricz, RHP, Catholic Memorial, 2021
6-foot, 165-pound right-handed pitcher with an athletic, wide-shouldered frame. Came in relief for STiKS Red against JBA on Friday. Short and loose arm action, over-the-top slot. Slight drop and drive type delivery, front side stays level, closed-toe landing at times, throws with some effort. Exclusively used the fastball in this short stint, sat 80-81 mph, played straight.

THUNDERCAT BASEBALL

John Ferguson, 1B, Verona Area, 2021
A hulking 6-foot-1, 190-plus pound prospect who wields some big, raw bat strength in the right-handed batter’s box. Slugged a few deep fly balls from the right-handed batter’s box over the weekend, showing that he has some of the top pop potential among the 2021s in attendance at Badger State. He’s among many Verona prospects who showed well over the weekend, so keep an additional eye out for the high school program next spring.

VELOCITY BASEBALL

Carl Cano, RHP/SS, Bay Port, 2021
6-foot-1, 173 pounds; athletic build with wiry strength throughout. A two-way prospect who’s blooming especially well from the mound. Over the weekend, Cano sat 84-87 mph with hard arm-side run from a live, loose ¾ slot. He attacked the zone and his swings and misses came from a well-tunnelled slider, 75-76 mph, that featured late bite and tight spin. Cano’s athleticism and relatively low effort provide some upside to further unravel here, making him a high-follow uncommitted prospect.

Easton Vertz, RHP, Pulaski, 2021
6-foot-1, 235-pound right-handed pitcher/outfielder. Durable, strong build with clear strength in the lower half. Started against ISA Stars Royal on Saturday. Featured a heavy, running fastball that’s tough to elevate, sitting 80-81 mph, touching 82 mph. Vertz allowed just the one run in five solid innings of work, scattering five hits, one walk while holding a talented ISA Stars Royal lineup at bay. Remains an interesting uncommitted arm to follow.

Derek Weber, OF, De Pere, 2021
5-foot-10, 162 pounds; lean build. Operated as the lead-off man, primarily, for Velocity Baseball last weekend. Took some excellent at-bats; loose hands create whippy barrels with feel to spray lofted contact from gap to gap. An above-average athlete in the outfield, too. Just an interesting, competitive uncommitted prospect to watch over.
