A fastball with hop has a flat approach angle and visually jumps through the zone. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher swing and miss average. Hop+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Sink+
A fastball with sink has low backspin and drops through the strike zone. When thrown down in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher ground ball percentage and lower launch angle. Sink+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Rise+
A fastball with rise has a high percentage of backspin. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher fly ball percentage. Rise+ of 100 is MLB average
Curveball
Hammer+
A hammer breaking ball drops vertically with velocity through the zone, or 12-to-6 movement. Hammer+ of 100 is MLB average.
Curveball

The twitchy 6-foot, 175-pound athlete has one of the more unique fastballs in the state’s junior class, generating hard rise and run action from a lower average release slot. Musolf pumped his fastball in at 87-88 mph, touching 89 mph on his hardest bullet. He averaged 20.1 inches of horizontal movement on it and paired it with 15 inches of vertical ride, per TrackMan. Musolf’s best secondary pitch in this look was his changeup, as it flashed late horizontal action from a similar release angle to his fastball. Still uncommitted, Musolf’s uptick in stuff alone has him poised for a productive spring with Franklin.
3/21/21
Musolf continues to be a follow name on the bump inside Wisconsin’s sophomore class. We’ve gotten multiple looks at the 6-foot, 155-pound lanky right-hander over the last year, and his performance Sunday was his best to date. Musolf consistently pumped his heater in at 82-84 mph and it played with natural horizontal ride, averaging 18.7 inches of horizontal movement, per TrackMan. He showed off an improved changeup as well; an offering that plays well off his fastball, albeit from a lower average release angle.
