In the last weekend of October, PBR Virginia/DC hosted its inaugural State Games, which featured over 180 players and two locations, City Stadium and Liberty University in Lynchburg. We continue our detailed breakdown of that event with the first part of the 2022s who participated:

 

 

 

 

 

Landon Abrahamson OF / RHP / Miller School, VA / 2022 Abrahamson is a Dayton commit and is 6-2 with an athletic frame that has some strength present and plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, strides on line, short smooth load back. Hips rotate completely with violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short and quick to the ball, uphill swing path, very strong at contact with extension through the ball, showed a pull approach, a lot of power present, exit velocity was 103. In the outfield, gets body behind the ball and fields through it with above average hands, clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short very quick arm action, position velocity was 89. Ran a 7.02 60 yard dash.

 

 

Brett Alvis LHP / 1B / Hanover , VA / 2022 Alvis is 6-0 with an athletic frame that has some strength present and some projection left to it. He hits from the left side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, two tap stride on line, short load back to a slight wrap. Hips rotate completely with and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, goes straight to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing, strong at contact with extension through the ball, showed a primarily pull approach with the ability to use the whole field, some power present to his pull side, exit velocity was 92. In the infield, gets behind the ball and fields with average hands, works through ball to a clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 72. Ran a 7.35 60 yard dash. On the mound, he throws from a three-quarters arm slot, long break tightens up to a short free arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands slightly open with a fall off finish and some recoil. Fastball was 74-77, with downward plane and a bit of sink to it. Curveball had good armspeed and was 63-64 with sharp 1/7 break to it.

 

 

Ethan Applegate OF / 3B / Independence , VA / 2022 Applegate is 6-3 with a lankier athletic frame that has some strength present and plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open taller athletic stance, strides on line, short load back to a wrap. Hips rotate completely and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short and quick to the ball, uphill swing path, gets extension through the ball, showed a pull approach with the ability to use the whole field, power present to his pull side, natural loft in the swing, exit velocity was 96. In the outfield, gets body behind the ball and aggressively fields through it with above average hands, quick clean exchange, throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot, short arm action, position velocity was 80. Ran a 6.90 60 yard dash.

 

 

Sean Aronson C / RHP / Floyd E Kellam, VA / 2022 Aronson is 6-2 with an athletic frame that has some strength present and some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, short stride on line, small load down. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing with some extension through the ball, showed a good approach using the whole field, some doubles power present with potential to grow into more power, exit velocity was 90. Behind the plate, clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short arm action, position velocity was 70 and pop times 2.07-2.19.

 

 

Jake Barker OF / RHP / Waynesboro, VA / 2022 Barker is 5-11 with a lankier athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from an open balanced athletic stance, strides on line, smooth load back. Hips rotate completely and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, goes straight to the ball, level line drive swing path, showed a good approach using the entire field, exit velocity was 79. In the outfield, gets body behind the ball and fields through it with above average hands, clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short arm action, position velocity was 82. Ran a 7.47 60 yard dash. On the mound, he throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot, short loose arm action and easier effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and on line, lands open with an athletic finish and some recoil. Fastball was 76-80, with heavy late sink. Curveball had some armspeed and was 63-64 with sharp 11/5 break to it. Change-up was 71-74 with good armspeed and some heavy fade.

 

 

Jerry Barnes III C / 3B / First Colonial, VA / 2022 Barnes III is 6-2 with an athletic frame that has strength present in the lower half and some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, leg kick stride on line, short smooth load back to a wrap. Hips rotate some violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing with some strength at contact and extension through the ball, showed a pull approach with the ability to use the whole field, some power present to his pull side, natural loft built into his swing, exit velocity was 93. Behind the plate, very quick clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short arm action, position velocity was 76 and pop times 1.88-1.97. Showed accuracy on his throws. Ran a 7.59 60 yard dash.

 

 

Evan Bert RHP / 3B / Harrisonburg , VA / 2022 Bert is 6-0 with an athletic frame that has some strength in the lower half and some projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short loose quick arm action and higher effort to his delivery. Drop and drive delivery shoulders are uphill and closed, lands closed with a fall off finish and recoil. Fastball was 84-86, with some downward angle and boring action to armside. Curveball had good armspeed and was 73-75.

 

 

Landon Bonneville C / RHP / King's Fork, VA / 2022 Bonneville is 6-0 with an athletic frame that has a strong lower half and some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from an open balanced relaxed stance, low leg kick stride on line, smooth load back to a slight wrap. Hips rotate completely and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, goes straight to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing with strength at contact and some extension through the ball, showed a pull approach, some power present that way with some natural loft in his swing, exit velocity was 86. Behind the plate, clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short arm action, position velocity was 66 and pop times 2.12-2.28.

 

 

Elias Brooks OF / C / Glen Allen , VA / 2022 Brooks is 5-9 with a lankier athletic frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from an open balanced athletic stance, strides on line, loads back. Hips rotate completely and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, quick to the ball, slightly uphill swing path, some strength at contact, showed a good approach working the middle of the field, some gap power present with potential to grow into more, exit velocity was 86. In the outfield, gets body behind the ball and fields through it with above average hands, quick clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short quick arm action, position velocity was 77. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, strides on line, smooth load back to a slight wrap. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short and quick to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing, has strength at contact, showed primarily a pull approach with the ability to work gap to gap, some doubles power present to all fields with chance to grow into more, exit velocity was 88. Andrew Brown OF / SS / Manchester , VA / 2022 Brown is 5-10 with an athletic frame that has a strong lower half and some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from an open balanced athletic stance, strides on line, short smooth load back. Hips rotate with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing path, showed a pull preference with the ability to use the whole field, some power present in the gaps, exit velocity was 86. In the outfield, gets body behind the ball and fields through it aggressively with soft hands, quick clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short quick arm action, position velocity was 85. Ran a 7.65 60 yard dash.

 

 

Gavin Brunsman 3B / 2B / Bishop Ireton, VA / 2022 Brunsman is 6-2 with a lankier athletic frame that has some strength present and plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from an open balanced athletic stance, low leg kick stride on line, smooth load back to a slight wrap. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, quick to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing, has strength at contact and some extension through the ball, showed primarily a pull approach, extra base power to all fields with home run power to pull side, has feel for the barrel as well, exit velocity was 94. In the infield, rounds the ball and fields with a wider base and above average hands, works through ball to a quick clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 86. Ran a 7.34 60 yard dash. On the mound, he throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short free arm action and some effort to his delivery. Drop and drive delivery, shoulders are uphill and closed, lands slightly open with a fall off finish. Fastball was 79-80, touch 81, with some late run and a bit of sink. Curveball had good armspeed and was 66-70 with sharp downer 12/6 break to it. Change-up was 74-75 with good armspeed and some sink.

 

 

 

 

Andrew Burns 3B / 2B / Liberty Christian, VA / 2022 Burns is a Liberty commit and is 6-1 with an athletic frame that has some strength present and some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, low leg kick stride on line, smooth load back to a slight wrap, has some rhythm. Hips rotate with violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short and quick to the ball, uphill swing path, strong at contact and extension through the ball, showed a good approach using the whole field, power present to all fields, exit velocity was 98. In the infield, good feet, rounds the ball and fields with a wider base and soft hands, works through ball to a quick clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 82. Luke Calveric RHP / 3B / Mills Godwin, VA / 2022 Calveric is 6-5 with a very lanky frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He hits from the left side from a slightly open tall relaxed balanced stance, strides on line, short smooth load back. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing, has some strength at contact, showed a pull approach, some extra base power that way with potential to grow into more, exit velocity was 87. In the infield, rounds the ball and fields with a wider base and average hands, works through ball to a clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 84. Ran a 7.50 60 yard dash. On the mound, he throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot, short loose very quick arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and on line, lands open with a fall off finish. Fastball was 83-86, with some late hard armside run. Curveball had some armspeed and was 70-73 with late sharp 11/5 break to it. Change-up was 77-80 with good armspeed and some run.

 

 

Skylor Carroll SS / RHP / Cave Spring, VA / 2022 Carroll is 6-0 with a lankier athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from an open balanced athletic stance, low leg kick stride on line, smooth load back. Hips rotate and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing, showed a good approach working gap to gap, exit velocity was 77. In the infield, gets behind the ball and fields with a wider base and average hands, clean exchange, throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 73. Ran a 7.32 60 yard dash. On the mound, he throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot, very short loose quick arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and on line, lands slightly closed with an athletic finish and some recoil. Fastball was 78-80, with some downward angle and heavy boring action armside run. Curveball had good armspeed and was 66-69 with late sharp 12/6 break to it, has a chance to tighten into a real good pitch.

 

 

Nathan Chen OF / Freedom (South Riding), VA / 2022 Chen is 5-10 with an athletic frame that has some strength present and some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, strides on line, short smooth load back to a slight wrap. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short and quick to the ball, uphill swing path, gets some extension through the ball, showed a pull approach, some power present that way, exit velocity was 89. In the outfield, gets body behind the ball and fields through it with above average hands, clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short arm action, position velocity was 78. Ran a 7.07 60 yard dash.

 

 

Jason Cheifetz RHP / OF / Westfield, VA / 2022 Cheifetz is a James Madison commit and is 5-11 with an athletic frame that has strength present in the lower half and some projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short loose quick arm action and high effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands closed with a slight fall off finish and recoil. Fastball was 83-87, touching 88, with downward plane and some late cut. Curveball had some armspeed and was 66-67 with gradual big 11/5 break to it. Change-up was 72-73 with good armspeed and heavy fade. Slider was 74-76 with good armspeed and late hard 10/4 break, flashed plus.

 

 

Henry Cooke C / 3B / Miller School, VA / 2022 Cooke is a Virginia Tech commit and is 6-3 with strong athletic frame. He hits from the right side from an open balanced athletic stance, low leg kick stride on line, short smooth load back. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short and quick to the ball, uphill line drive swing with a very strong contact point and extension through the ball, showed a pull approach with the ability use the whole field, power present to all fields with some serious power to pull side, exit velocity was 97. Behind the plate, very quick clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short quick arm action, position velocity was 80 and pop times 1.86-1.92. Showed some accuracy on his throws. Ran a 7.26 60 yard dash.

 

 

Bryce Cooper RHP / 1B / Cave Spring, VA / 2022 Cooper is a VMI commit and is 6-4 with an athletic frame that has some strength in the lower half and plenty of projection left to it. He throws from a higher three-quarters arm slot, very short loose quick arm action and high effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands open with a fall off finish and recoil. Fastball was 81-84, with some late armside run. Curveball had good armspeed and was 67-70 with hard 11/5 break to it.

 

 

Luke Craytor RHP / OF / Western Albemarle, VA / 2022 Craytor is 6-4 with a lankier athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, short leg kick stride on line, short load back. Hips rotate completely and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, goes straight to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing path, long levers and some strength at contact, showed a pull approach with some power present that way, exit velocity was 88. In the outfield, gets body behind the ball and fields it with above average hands, clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short quick arm action, position velocity was 87. On the mound, he throws from a higher three-quarters arm slot, short free arm action and normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands slightly closed with a slight fall off finish and some occasional recoil. Fastball was 79-81, with some sink and a bit of late run. Curveball had some armspeed and was 63-66 with sharp 11/5 break to it, showed some swing and miss down. Change-up was 69-70 with good armspeed and some sink to it.

 

 

Reese Crochet LHP / 1B / T.C. Williams, VA / 2022 Crochet is a George Washington commit and is 6-3 with a lankier athletic frame that has some strength in the lower half and plenty of projection left to it. He throws from a very low three-quarters arm slot, almost sidearm, short free quick arm action and some effort to his delivery. Crossfire delivery with some hinge at the waist, shoulders are uphill and closed, lands closed with a fall off finish and some recoil. Fastball was 78-80, touching 81, with heavy run to armside that also gets depth. Curveball had good armspeed and was 66-70 with sharp 2/8 break to it. Real tough angle to the plate for hitters.

 

 

 

 

Colin Cunningham RHP / 3B / Carlisle , VA / 2022 Cunningham is 6-1 with an athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He throws from a higher three-quarters arm slot, very short free quick arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands open with a fall off finish and some recoil. Fastball was 78-79, touching 80, with some downward angle and some late armside run. Curveball had good armspeed and was 66-67 with hard sharp 11/5 break to it, pitch flashes swing and miss.

 

 

 

 

Colby Cunningham OF / OF / Carlisle, VA / 2022 Cunningham is 6-2 with an athletic frame that has some strength present and some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, low leg kick stride on line, short load back. Hips rotate with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short and quick to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing path, gets extension through the ball, showed a pull preference with the ability to use the whole field, doubles power present to all fields with some more to pull side, exit velocity was 93. Brian Curley RHP / 2B / Trinity Episcopal , VA / 2022 Curley is 5-10 with an athletic frame that has some strength in the lower half and some projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, very short loose lightning quick arm action and high effort to his delivery. Drop and drive delivery, shoulders are uphill and closed, lands slightly open with an athletic finish. Fastball was 86-88, touching 89, with downward angle and some heavy late armside run. Slider had good armspeed and was 74-77 with sharp hard 11/5 break to it, pitch is swing and miss. Change-up was 79-80 with good armspeed and some late run.

 

 

Michael Dailey OF / Prince Edward, VA / 2022 Dailey is 5-10 with an athletic frame that has strength present and some projection left to it. He hits from the left side from a balanced athletic stance, low leg kick stride on line, short load down and back to a wrap. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short and quick to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing path, very strong at contact with some extension through the ball, showed a good approach using the whole field, extra base power to all fields with some more to pull side, exit velocity was 96. Owen DeShazo SS / 2B / Hanover, VA / 2022 DeShazo is a Boston College commit and is 6-6 with a lanky athletic frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slighlty open balanced athletic stance, short stride on line, short smooth load back. Hips rotate completely with violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short and quick to the ball, uphill line drive swing, has strength at contact and some extension through the ball, long levers generate a lot of leverage, showed primarily a pull approach, power present to all fields, exit velocity was 97. In the infield, rounds the ball and fields with a wider base and soft hands, works through ball to a quick clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short arm action position velocity was 76. Bryce Dolby RHP / 1B / Independence , VA / 2022 Dolby is a Mississippi commit and is 6-5 with a lankier athletic frame that has some strength present and plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, strides in place, toe stays down, smooth load back to a slight wrap. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, quick to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing, strong at contact with extension through the ball, showed a pull approach, with power present to his pull side, has natural loft in his swing, exit velocity was 91. Hips rotate with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing, showed a good approach working gap to gap, exit velocity was 75.
