The 6-foot-6 Boston College commit held down shortstop the first game and made some really nice plays, especially a few coming forward on balls. Arm strength has improved, takes long strides, and is a well above average runner especially considering his size. One of the biggest questions for me on DeShazo was the consistency of contact. At times last year there was a little bit too much swing and miss at times, but the approach at the plate seems to have gotten better and looks like he has toned things down a bit. Wider stance, little to no stride, and short quick level path. Handled pitches up well, including a double on a hanging breaking ball.

Long thin 6-foot-6 frame with room to fill out. DeShazo played shortstop on the night and did not have much action with all the strikeouts, but I watched closely in pre-game to see more on the Boston College commit. Hands present well, fields a little high and understandably so, and the arm looks to have added strength since we last saw him. Ball came out easy with carry across the infield. With his size and length long term he will more than likely move to corner infield/corner outfield and the power will need to play more at the plate. Hands are set tight, small hand load, and short flat path to contact. The stance starts square with a slight crouch, steps to stride and a wider base at finish, and heads stays behind contact point with balance in the swing.

DeShazo is 6-6 with a lanky athletic frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slighlty open balanced athletic stance, short stride on line, short smooth load back. Hips rotate completely with violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short and quick to the ball, uphill line drive swing, has strength at contact and some extension through the ball, long levers generate a lot of leverage, showed primarily a pull approach, power present to all fields, exit velocity was 97. In the infield, rounds the ball and fields with a wider base and soft hands, works through ball to a quick clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short arm action position velocity was 76. Ran a 7.03 60 yard dash.
