Top-10 Stories of 2019: No. 1 PBR National Championship 16U Notebook

At the end of 2018, Prep Baseball Report announced its partnership with the state-of-the-art baseball facility in Emerson, Ga.: LakePoint Sporting Community. Our inaugural season at the helm of LakePoint’s first-class facilities has opened the doors to a more competitive travel baseball scene with an emphasis on PBR’s boots-on-the-ground scouting services.

No. 1: PBR National Championship 16U Notebook

The PBR National Championships is taking place at LakePoint in Georgia, hosting travel teams in three age groups: 17U, 16U and 15U. Prep Baseball Report will have quick notes for each level from each day during the event.

Here is more on the action from the 16U division...


DAY 6 - MONDAY

 

+ 2020 3B/RHP Dominic Teoli, a two-way player for Academy Baseball Canada came up huge for them this morning. At the plate, he tied the game up with a crucial single; changing the completion of the game. He later came in out of the pen and shut the game down, pounding the zone with strikes; and ABC never looked back. Teoli is an Uncommitted 2020 grad.


+ 2021 C/1B Sam Lisiak, an Uncommitted right-handed hitter for Arsenal Baseball was a productive hitter in the middle of their lineup in the semifinal game. In his first at-bat and the bases juiced, he laid off two close breaking balls before fouling off a couple borderline pitches and walking to score a run. He later displayed a line-drive swing with pop where he gains ground and likes to use the pull-side. The actions in the infield still need to improve, but the bat is must watch as of now.


+ 1B/OF Zachary Phillips, a 2021 left-handed bat is another Arsenal hitter with pop. He put together good at-bats, taking quality hacks all day, but it wasn’t until late that he did serious damage. He took a middle-in pitch and with a slightly upward swing drove the ball 343 feet away off the bat at 92.4. Phillips was an important factor in the semis, and has the capability of changing a game with a swing of the bat.


+ 2020 Yohan Dessureault, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound infielder was the star of the finals for ABC. He got the game off to a good start, circling the bases for an inside the park home run in the first inning. He followed that up with a base-hit in his second at-bat. He also flashed the leather, ranging up the middle to snag a line-drive that had single written all over it. Dessureault is still uncommitted and could be a good get for a school at the next level. 


+ Uncommitted 2021 Zion Taylor (Hope Christian) was a nightmare to pitch against all week for the Georgia Roadrunners. At 6-3, 170 pounds, Taylor has long limbs, a high waist, and he has athleticism coming from everywhere. Taylor ripped a single to right, but it’s not the first time we’ve seen him catch barrel to his pull side. A straight up athlete, take your pick on what position you want him to play, because he has the athleticism to do it all.


+ Uncommitted 2020 right-hander John Kirchner (North Gwinnett) is a 6-2, 175-pound pitcher with a chance to be pretty special. The pitchability isn’t there yet, but he creates downhill angle with an 86-88 mph fastball, but he also has decent secondary. His curveball bit hard at 74-78 mph, and he backed it up with a 67-69 mph changeup. This is an arm that schools should be after, as he projects well with a body that can only add size and strength.


+ Uncommitted 2021 Kareh Valentin (Chapel Hill) is a bit of a sleeper in his class, but the kid can flat out play. Valentin plays with a little flair, but he hits the ball to all fields with authority. He’s got the speed to steal bases.

DAY 5 - SUNDAY

+ 2022 RHP Isaiah Lowe (5 Star North Carolina 16U) is a physical 6-foot-1, 205-pounds with strength in upper and lower halves, proportionally built. Arm works long on the back-side, showing, accelerates with ultra quick arm speed to a ¾ slot. Drop and drive delivery, carries momentum down the mound, lands toe-closed, finishes athletically. Fastball comes out easy, sat mostly 85-86, touched 88 (2100-2200 rpm). Relied mainly on fastball.


+ 2021 LHP Larry Blackwell (Rawlings SE American 16U) is a 5-foot-7, 143-pound left-hander, thick lower half carries strength. Arm works continuously to a high ¾ slot. Works on-line, lands square, finishes square. Fastball was up to 83, controlled the zone with. Slurve-like breaking ball had good shape with two plane break at 63-66, struggled with command of. Pitched a complete game one hit shutout against Ninth Inning Royals.


+ 2021 C/1B Evan Waggoner (Ironmen), a 6-foot-2, 180-pound C/1B mashed from the left-side of the plate in his game today. He is a selective hitter with pitch recognition abilities and often works deep in counts. He hunts fastballs, and drilled a couple of them to his pull-side for hits. He stays low and balanced and is short and quick through the zone with his bat. He has power potential, and shouldn’t strike out a lot with his current approach at the plate. 

+ Ethan Bell (Ironmen), a 6-foot-1, 150-pound righty for Ironmen Prep 16u dealt in his Sunday night start. He worked 82-84 mph with arm-side run from a low 3/4 arm slot. He threw a slurve-like breaking ball which resulted in plenty of swings and misses. He went deep into the game, and maintained his velocity fairly well. Bell is the 19th ranked prospect in the 2021 Indiana class and a RHP to lock in on.

+ Deaton Oak, a 6-foot-2, 155-pound right-hander for the Vipers pitched very well out of the pen in Sunday’s nightcap. It’s a slow-paced loose delivery with quickness and arm speed from Oak. His fastball works up to 87 mph, with a 2300 spin rate; and on this day it was very effective. He mixes in both a changeup and a 10/4 curveball with frisbee-like break at a 2700 spin rate. Oak will be an interesting follow out of Kentucky in the 2021 class who is committed to West Virginia. 

+ Uncommitted 2021 Brady Browning of Next Level Baseball is a quick twitched athlete with tight, concise actions in the field and at the plate. He uses a leg kick to coil in the load and is compact at the hitting point, eliminating long swings. It will also keep him on time which will improve plate vision and discipline.


+ RHP Luke Fernandez (Rawlings SE Nationals) the 2022 came in relief and was throwing bullets as he hit 88 mph numerous times, getting arm side run when he was able to get on top and work down in the zone. Arm is quick out front and while he will cast the breaking ball at times and not get the same finish on his heater, there is room and time to polish and refine as Fernandez has body and frame to be a legit arm in the 2022 class. 


+ Nathan Laliberte, leadoff hitter with bat to ball skills and speed, knows his ability and plays the game that way. Will show some gap to gap power but contact and line drive appeal more to Laliberte. Interesting player out of Quebec, Canada who will add size and strength as he matures. 


+ Uncommitted 2021 Matthew Arundale is a long 5-foot-11 175 pounds. He has long arms that are fast through the zone and stay extended all the way through. He stands tall and turns in the hips to set his weight back before he throws the hands. The swing is mechanically sound and is on plane with consistency, improving barrel rate and creating higher exit velocity off the bat. The backspin helps with carry which should pick up as he gets older.


+ Ben Ivey (615 Baseball) Ivey has been fun to watch all weekend. Plays the game hard and fast. Short compact frame that can hit for average and power. Had a hard hit 2B in the gap on Saturday. Went 3-3 today with 2 infield singles and a 4.2 down the line. Great all around, athletic player that can be an asset in any category. Aggressive on the bases with high baseball IQ. 

 


+ Cory Francis (615 Baseball), 2021 6-foot-5 180-pound LHP is an arm to look out for. The lanky lefty kept hitters off balance with a 4 pitch mix. 2250-2500 spin rate on the breaker. 2000-2200 on the FB. Fastball was 81-83 with late life and arm side run. He could throw the CB in any count that was 68-70. Mixed the CH some, and threw it left on left at 75-77 for a K with good downward action.



+ Tyler McLoughlin (Georgia Jackets 16U) has been swinging it well all weekend. 1B/RHP has a good physical frame. Looks comfortable in the box, and has an approach. Seems like he looks for his pitch early and expands when he down in the count. Had a 1-2 single to the left side that showed some bat control. 


+ 2020 RHP Aiden Berggren (Georgia Jackets 16U), 6-foot-5 205 pounds came in for relief in a 2 run game against Next Level. Big physical righty that has room for development. Lived low in the zone with FB 83-85. CH 77-78. He is still developing the breaking ball. With his size and delivery that is major room for growth. There is more confidence when he gets ahead in the count. 


DAY 4 - SATURDAY

+ Michigan commit RHP Avery Goldensoph (Arsenal 16U) took to the mound on Satruday evening against Geargia Jackets and was nothing short of electric, tossing 6 ⅓ innings and racking up 13 strikeouts. Listed at 6-foot-2 145-pounds, Goldensoph appears taller in person, casting a towering presence on the mound. Arm works clean on the back-side with quick arm speed to a high ¾ slot. Consistent delivery, repeats well. Fastball sat mostly 86-88, ran it up to 91 mph (1800-2000 rpm). Curveball, 11/5 shape, flashed sharp action (2200 rpm). Showed feel for changeup with fade action at 80-82 (1550-1650 rpm). High level arm.


+ Uncommitted 2020 RHP Carson Curry (Rawlings SE National 16U) is an athletic prospect at 5-foot-8, 155-pounds. Arm works long with a low draw on the back-side, accelerates to a ¾ slot. Fastball sat 82-84, touched 85 (1900 rpm). Feel for slider with downer action at 70-72.


+ 2021 OF Caden Slappey (Next Level 16U) stands 6-foot, 180-pounds with considerable amount of strength throughout from the left-side of the plate. Offensively, balanced setup, short stride, hands start high, dropping on load, remains balanced throughout. Swings it aggressively with present bat speed, looks to elevate the ball to the pull-side and do damage with every swing.  Had himself a day against Coastal Stars hitting a standup triple to the right-center gap (93 mph exit velocity) and blasting a three-run homer of the right field fence later on.

+ 2021 OF Will Brown (Next Level 16U) has had himself a coming out party this week. The right-handed hitting center fielder carries strength throughout frame with quick twitch muscle while sacrificing none of his athleticism. Can really run, covering a huge amount of territory in the outfield in addition to flying around the bases. Offensively, has been on an absolute tear this week hitting out of the leadoff position. Uses the whole field, driving the ball with ease. Takes a simple approach with a wider stance and a short stride, hands load back and remains balanced through contact, uses his lower half well.
+ 2021 OF Alec Lavellee (L & M 16U)
+ 2021 C/1B Scout Updike (Gatorball 16U)
+ Michael Sills (Team Georgia) came in relief and the 2021, listed at 6-foot with long arms and skinny frame with room to add size and strength. Was up to 87 early on from loose ¾ slot with run to the arm side, he settled in and the velo was more in the 82-84 range while . Relatively new to the mound as innings have been limited for Sills, there is room to engage in his lower half more while polishing his craft. A name to keep an eye on as there could be a jump in Sills stuff moving forward. 


+ We’ve seen Cade Stephenson (Skills Academy) unleash his pop this week, and he did more of the same today as he turned on a fastball left up and deposited it for a two-run blast in the first inning. Present strength with some bat speed through the zone, Stephenson continues to stay hot and be a run producer for Skills Academy this week. 


+ Brylen Janda (Skills Academy), long and lean at 6-foot-3, 175-pounds, the Cowley County CC commit used a nice combo of his fastball (80-83) and slider (70-73) to keep hitters off balance. Did a nice job with the slider staying down in the zone and using as a putaway pitch. The arm works and is able to get out front, lots of upside for Janda as he will continue to fill out and add strength. 


+ Evan Waggoner (Ironmen), left-handed hitting catcher with balanced setup at the plate. Present strength in the 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame with room to add more muscle and mass. Hands work back and get loaded in good position to hit. Laced ball down third base line, metrics had 87mh off the bat. Also threw runner out on delayed steal, arm strength showed carry to the bag. Aggressive in the zone with bat speed 


+ Uncommitted 2021 Chase Stokes of 9th Inning Royals came in pumping strikes consistently. He used a low 80s FB on both sides of the plate and a short, quick breaking CB at 67-69 mph. With an athletic build, he has control and uses his entire body, reducing strain on his arm. He competes on the mound going right after hitters making his work efficient for the most part.


+ Luke Lawrence (Burr Ridge Braves), Left-handed hitting catcher, feel to hit and find the barrel, added strength will add some more juice to Lawrence and should come as he matures down the road. More pop to the pull side, hands are relaxed and loose, stays balanced through swing while showing good feel for the strike strike zone. Interesting 21’ who could make it


+ Nathan Mosqueda (Burr Ridge Braves), leadoff hitter, left-handed bat, stocky frame with loose hands through the zone. Small leg kick to load, bat gets on plane and extended through the zone. Laced a fastball directly at the right-fielder and then second bat went with a fastball away down the left-field line. Line drive approach who can use the whole field, moves well down the line and in the infield. 


+ Uncommitted 2021 Evan Richardson (Rawlings Southeast American) is the prototypical catcher with size, quickness, and power in his legs. Commands the game and works fast paced with his pitcher. At the plate he stays loose in the arms and throws the hands with barrel whip advanced for his age. He stands tall on the backside and drives down on the ball creating backspin.


+ While Roadrunners took this one off Release, 2022 RHP/SS Gabe Nard (Release/SIHS) continued to stand out. Nard is already fairly well known, but in spite of that he continues to perform. Offensively he finds barrel, gets down the line and plays the game the right way. At shortstop his actions are smooth, and he has plenty of arm strength to stick. On the mound he utilizes that whippy arm, sitting 84-86 with life after being up to 89 earlier this week - both times out of the bullpen. An Ohio-native who is an interesting ball player, he’ll be fun to watch. 

+ To close this game out, the Roadrunners turned to uncommitted 2020 John Kirchner (Roadrunners/North Gwinnett). The 6-2, 175-pound righty is tough to hit, straight up. It’s a jerky motion that isn’t easy on the eyes, he’s slightly over-the-top, but he lived 84-86, bumping 88 a few times, while mixing in a sharp breaking ball that had some shape to it. We hope to get an extended look at Kirchner as the week goes on, but today he didn enough to gauge our interest in him next time he gets on the mound.


+ An extremely raw, and physical player, uncommitted 2020 Ian Kennedy (Roadrunners/Whitfield Academy) stands out on the diamond. At 6-3, 215 pounds, Kennedy isn’t too flashy with anything he does, he’s just flat out strong. He runs hard, swings hard and throws with effort. Nonetheless, he gets the job done, and there’s so much to work with in terms of  that frame and size.


+ Uncommitted 2021 Zion Taylor (Roadrunners/Hope Christian) was stellar in his Day 4 outing. The 6-3, 170-pounder is long, lean and athletic. On the mound he commanded the strike zone well against a strong offense, living 83-85 with his fastball, and 71-73 with his breaking ball. On the mound it looks free and easy, and to top it all off, his left-handed bat plays at the dish as well. Early in the game he flicked his wrists and drove a double that one-hopped the right-field wall. There isn’t a ton of explosiveness in his game, he’s fairly methodical, but he’s something to dream on.


+ 2021 6-foot-1 SS/CF Isaak Mullanack (Team NB Legends) is a fun player to watch. He has been swinging it well all tournament. Plays the game hard, and is a good all around player. Could play anywhere on the field. He is a tough out at the play, and has a great approach. Good speed, and has a lot of room to develop with his athleticism. 


+ Drew Beam (615 Baseball) committed to the University of Tennessee after the game. 2021 6-foot-1 190 pounder put on a show Saturday morning. His clean, effortless delivery gave him the ability to command the ball down in the zone. 3 pitch mix, all thrown for strikes. Great tempo, retiring the last 12 batters. FB was 86-88 and topped out at 90. Threw a CG no hitter on 72 pitches with 8K’s and 2 BB.


+ 2021 Smith Pinson, 6-foot-5 RHP/1B, was dominant against a good Top Tier American lineup. Over the top FB was 82-84, topping out at 86. From the side FB 77-79. Pinson had a solid CH (72-72) that looked like a FB out of his hand. He controlled the outer half of the plate, and kept the hitters off balance. There is more in the tank with his frame and athleticism. CG shutout giving up 3 hits and striking out 4.  


+ Brett Bloomquist, a 6-foot-2, 171-pound C/SS stood out with the bat for Next Lvl today. He drove three pitches today, two resulting in base-hits and the other a deep fly out. It’s an athletic stance with quickness, bat speed and strength allowing him to control the barrel and hit the ball hard. His actions are clean across the board, and he will have a chance to be impactful at the next level.


+ 2021 Landon Underwood, a physical left-handed hitter for Nxt Lvl impressed at the plate today. It’s an aggressive swing with raw power that plays, specifically to the pull-side. In today’s game, he took an inside pitch and roped it down the line in right-field. He put together solid plate appearances later, showing feel for the strike zone and an understanding of himself as a hitter. He is an interesting bat to keep an eye on in his class


Day 3 - Friday


+ Arsenal’s potent squad was led by their starting pitcher on Day 3, as uncommitted 2021 Ryan Szczepaniak (Woodhaven) was lights out in his complete game effort. A husky 6-3, 200-pounds, the right-hander worked quick, broke bats, and hit both sides of the plate with a three-pitch mix. His fastball sat in the 81-84 range, while his breaking ball was 74-75 mph, and his changeup backed up at 71-72 mph. While his mechanics can be rigid at times and he doesn’t get down the mound too much, it’s interesting to see what he’ll be like in a year’s time. As for today, we like what we see. 

+ 2021 RHP Coleman Willis (Game On Stealth / Houston County HS, GA), a long-limbed 6-foot-6, 180-pound Georgia recruit, threw well for Game On Stealth. Long, loose and highly projectable, Willis’ arm works free and easily with length on the backside. He works downhill and creates angle to his fastball, which plays mostly true. Touched 91 once, and worked mostly 87-89 early on, and settled in at 83-86 in the third and fourth. Slider got better as the game wore on, threw more strikes with it later in the game at 71-73 mph. Currently ranked No. 318 nationally in the 2021 class.


+ 2021 LHP/OF James McCracken (615 Baseball Club / Middle Tennessee Christian HS, TN), an athletically built 6-foot-3, 190-pound Tennessee recruit, has been barreling up baseballs all weekend. But on Friday, he showed why he is ranked No. 298 nationally in the 2019 class. Battled through a rough first inning against Game On Stealth and progressively got stronger as the game wore on. An athlete on the mound, he mixes up his delivery at times, getting Clayton Kershaw with it. Arm is loose, athletic and long in the back. Fastball topped at 89, working predominately 84-87, with arm-side life. Slider had erratic effectiveness, mostly one plate with lateral sweep.Offensively, a right-handed hitter, has an open set up with a pronounced leg lift. Has quick, athletic hands and looks to get his swing off at all times. Makes consistent hard contact. Had an opposite-field double, singled walked and squared one up to the center fielder. 

+ 2021 OF Clifford Pless III (Game On Stealth / Veterans HS, GA), a thin 5-foot-10, 140-pound left-handed hitter, is a premium runner. Looks to bunt early and often, and rightfully so; showed sub-3.7 run times earlier in the tournament. On Friday, he slapped a double down the left field line and was 4.18 on the turn. Possesses game-changing speed.


+ Uncommitted 2021 3B Kyle Magrans (615 Baseball Club / Clarksville HS, TN) is a strong-bodied 6-foot-2, 195-pound right-handed hitter who showed well in all facets of the game. Takes strong, balanced aggressive hacks at the plate with some bat speed. He singled sharply up the middle, laced one right at the first baseman and flew out to the left fielder. He also showed reliable hands at third base with plenty of arm across the diamond.

+ 2021 RHP/1B Evan Waggoner (Ironmen Prep 16U) had an impressive two-way performance against Launch City. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound left-handed hitter has a long frame with plenty of room to continue filling out. Top of the order bat, takes a gap-to-gap approach with pull-side pop, looks to elevate and do damage with hard contact. On the mound, arm worked short and clean on the back-side to a low ¾ slot. Showed feel for a four pitch mix. Fastball sat 81-83 with run. Mixed in a tight cutter at 78-79, located to glove-side. Changeup, heavy fade, 72-75. Curveball, shape varied between 12/6 and 11/5, 64-66. 


+ Michigan commit, 2021 SS Camden Gasser (Ironmen Prep 16U) took a number of quality at-bats, showing advanced feel for the zone and patient eye. Looks to drive the ball back up the middle. Aggressive on the basepaths, takes the extra base.
+ Uncommitted 2020 C/OF Griffin Usher (Next Level 16U) has a wiry frame at 6-foot, 155-pounds, some quick twitch muscle. Has a surprising amount of strength at the plate, quick hands and present bat speed, squares the ball up routinely. Hard-nosed player.
+ Uncommitted 2020 1B Cade Johnston (Next Level 16U) is country strong at 6-foot-2, 185-pounds, power throughout frame. Is an intimidating force at the plate, sets up with a wide stance and a bend in his knees. Power hitter, looks to get the barrel head out and do damage to the pull-side, produces backspin on fly balls.  
+ Uncommitted 2020 1B/OF Ian Kennedy (Georgia Roadrunner 16U) is a physical specimen at a 6-foot-3, 215-pounds, athletic build with strength throughout. Made head turns in the evening slate of games with loud contact. Quick hands carry strength through contact, ball flies off the bat, is able to drive the ball even when caught off-balance. One of the top uncommitted bats at the 16U level.


+ 2021 RHP Gage Chumley (16u Next LVL), a 5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed started for Next Level and was efficient with his stuff for the majority of the game. Simple, quiet delivery with clean arm swing in the back, fastball sat 81-82 and was up to 84 while his curveball worked in the 70-73 range with proper rotation and near 12/6 shape, keeping hitters off balanced and using it as a putaway pitch. Can see the fastball velocity climbing up and his stuff to play and continue to get sharper. Competed well

 

+ 2021 SS/RHP Jonah Mahen (Skills Academy) came in relief and showed a lively arm from h-¾ slot and downhill plane at times to his fastball. The arm is very quick and he gets out-front with arm side run when he is on top. Room to refine his command but the actions are there and should have coaches excited to work with Mahen and help take him to the next level. 


+ 2021 SS Cade Stephenson (Skills Academy) unloaded on a fastball in the top of the 7th in a 3-2 ball game to put Skills academy up by five as the bases were loaded. A no doubter off the bat, trackman had it 100mph off the bat and traveled a distance of 348 feet. Stephenson has present strength with bat speed that looks to jump balls with juice to his pull side. 


+ 2021 SS Mason Gray (GatorBall), Aheltic middle infielder with short, compact swing from the right side. Moves well out the box and keeps that same athleticism in the infield. Offensively, there is bat to ball skills and does a good job of staying inside the ball


+ 2021 RHP Joey White (DBAT South Carolina), athletic 2021 who started on the mound for DBAT, White worked quick with athletic actions and a loose arm from ¾ slot. Fastball worked in the 80-84 range and to both sides of the plate with his heater, but his best pitch was his curveball that sat in the low 70’s and with 11/5 shape. He was not afraid to throw his breaking ball in any count, evident as he spun his curveball for the first pitch of the game, and would throw for strikes when he was behind in the count as well. Can see added velocity down the road for White as he continues to mature physically and had a strong foundation to work with on the mound.  


+ Dominic Teoli (ABC Academie), 2020 right-hander with late sinking action on his fastball that missed bats and produced a lot of ground balls. A little coil turn in the delivery to add some deception, the slider was down with good tilt action with swings and misses and weak ground balls. Arm works in the back with room to add more velocity and strength to his 5-foot-11, 170-pound frame.  


+ 2020 Nicholas Deschamps (ABC Academie), left-handed hitting catcher who has had a solid start at the plate this week. Shown ability to drive the ball across the diamond. Good job of keeping the barrel through the zone while he can throw from behind the dish and handles his arm very well. 


+ RHP Tom Egan (Top Tier Americans), an uncommitted 2021 was a force today as he attacked hitters early on with his fastball that sat 84-86, touching 87 mph on a few occasions. The spin rate was 2300-2500, which is far above average for his age and velocity. The slider was an effective pitch with a spin rate that was up to 2380 as he showed feel and confidence with the pitch, going to it more as the game went on. Weak contact all day while Egan piled up the strikeouts and should be a can't miss arm from the 21’ class. 


+ 2021 Danny Nuccio (Top Tier Americans), physical 6-foot, 190-pound, right-handed hitting catcher with some hard and loud contact today at the plate. Both at-bats he jumped fastballs to his pull side, one being robbed by the left-fielder which came off the bat at 95 mph and the second was a rope to left field, 85 mph off the bat for a base hit in the 7tth. Strong lower half who can catch and throw behind the plate, threw out runner with a 2.10 pop time that was right on the bag with carry. Uncommitted 2021 with some juice in the bat. 


+ 2022 SS/RHP Gabriel Nard (Release), we saw Nard come in and close out Release first win on Wednesday, today Nard showed us his athleticism at shortstop, making plays on the run and being able to throw from multiple arm slots with carry across the diamond. At the plate, there is twitchy actions with line drive approach and some sneaky pop to go with it. He’s a legit two-way guy who can change the game in numerous ways. 

+ We’ve been on Peter Levin (Release) since we saw him on Day 1, and he tapped into his power stroke in the first as he launched a nuke to left-field. Trackman stats were 97 mph off the bat, launch angle of 30 degrees and distance traveled of 361 feet. Levin will also represent Ohio at the Future games next week.

+ 2021 C Jay Smith (Vipers Baseball Club), a 2021 catcher was a key cog in the Vipers lineup in game 1 on Friday. From the left-side of the plate, Smith displays a short line-drive stroke, showing good ability to get out front and use the middle-pull-side of the field. He drove in the first run of the game, waiting on a breaking ball and pulling it down the line for a double. He barrelled up pitches in other at-bats, and caught a good game on this day as well.

+ 2021 SS Adam Quintero (5 - Star NC) made the routine plays in the infield, ranging in, and side-to-side to cover ground and make the play. His arm works on the left-side in large part due to his quick transfers and accuracy across the diamond. At the plate, the swing works short and quick with minimal moving parts allowing him to bat on ball. It’s an athletic build with looseness throughout; he will be an interesting watch down the road.


DAY 2 - THURSDAY

+ 2021 Owen Carapellotti (Arsenal), big strong left-handed hitting catcher out of Michigan, listed at 6-foot-2, 195-pounds. Absolutely smoked two balls today, one going for a bases clearing double and the other being a shot to right-field that came off the bat at 98 mph. Also threw out a runner behind the dish. Nice day on both sides of the ball for Carapellotti. 


+ 2021 Logan McCoy (Arsenal), right-handed hitting shortstop, McCoy has looked confident and comfortable in the box, lacing two line-drives up the middle and to right-centre. There is some twitch there to go along with a strong base in his 5-foot-7, 160-pound frame. 


+ 2021 Agyei Quinichett (Ninth Inning Royals), middle infielder with sound approach at the plate. Looked to jump balls with pop to his pull side. Laced a double early in the game and put together tough at-bats, fouling off numerous tough pitches to keep his AB alive. Hands and actions played in the infield as he saw time at both shortstop and second. 5-foot-10, 165-pound sturdy frame with room to add strength. Like the bat to ball skills and is a 2021 to keep an eye on this week. 

+ 2021 Cole McMichael (Ironmen) Big 6-foot-5, 210-pound right-hander got the start for Ironmen today and impressed with a downhill plane fastball that worked in the 83-85 range early on, touching 86 on multiple occasions. The slider was what stood out as it generated plenty of swings and misses at 77-79 mph with late action and lots of swings underneath. The slider is the separator here as it’s a putaway pitch right now, and the stuff is only going to play up as McMichael will get stronger and more experienced with every outing. 


+ 2021 Ezra Gustafson (Skills Academy) Two-way player came out the pen for Skills Academy and got the job done working mainly off his fastball that ranged from 82-85 mph. Showed athleticism in his delivery, the arm plays with sneaky life to his fastball. 


+ 2021 Bradley Wilson (Game On Stealth), the Mississippi State commit is well known on the mound, but he was a force in the box today as well. He just missed a home run foul to his pull side and then proceeded to lace a single to centre-field. Strong and physical, the bat plays for the 2021 MSU commit and is a big part of Game on Stealth’s offense.

+ 2021 Zachary Carroll (Skills Academy), A 2021 left on left outfielder from Ada, Oklahoma. Carroll was balanced in the box and turned around a fastball right back up the box for a base hit. Hands in a good position to hit with extension through contact, intriguing bat to keep an eye on from the 21’ class in Oklahoma. 


+ Uncommitted ‘21 LHP Sheldon Falor is a long and lean 6-foot-2 175 pounds. He looks like he will continue to grow into his frame with long arms and legs and big hands and feet. On the mound he relies on raw athleticism a little more than mechanics but he has the arm and feel to show marked growth. With a fastball that reaches 85 mph and a downward breaking ball from 68-71 mph he could break out soon.


+ 2021 Louis Philippe Langevin closed out the 9-1 win for ABC Academie today as the uncommitted 2021 right-hander was loose and easy with compact actions on the mound as the fastball worked 83-85 while he flashed his curveball in the low 70’s with depth and downward action. Will be a member of the Canadian Futures team next week and a definite guy coaches need to be on from up north. 


+ 2021 OF Archie Dean Herring (5 Star North Carolina 16U) is an athletic 5-foot-10, 165-pounds, strength throughout frame with some quick twitch. Offensively, hitting out of the lead off spot for 5 Star, is aggressive at the plate, attacks the first good pitch he sees. Gap-to-gap type hitter with pull-side pop, made consistent hard contact. Nearly had a home run over the left field fence, but he left fielder was able to track it down and make the play on the warning track, still good for a sacrifice fly. Can flat out fly around the ballpark, covers ground well in the outfield and runs the bases like a natural.


+ 2021 OF Stewart Evans (5 Star North Carolina 16U) put together some of the best at-bats of the day in a losing effort. The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder takes a balanced setup with a wide stance at the plate, reverse toe-tap, low hands load back with a wrist cock. Barrel path is short to the zone and long through it, stays level, generates hard contact with easy effort. Looks to pull the ball for power. Collected two doubles and an RBI against Top Tier National.


+ 2021 RHP Justin Lehman (5 Star North Carolina 16U) made a relief appearance against Top Tier National. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound has a long frame with plenty of room to fill out. Arm works short, draws straight out of the glove to the ear, arm accelerates quickly to an over-the-top slot. Fastball sat 82-84, touched 85. Curveball, 11/5 shape, 67-70.

+ 2021 SS Jaylon Nauden (Top Tier National 16U) is a difference maker on the diamond for Top Tier. At 6-foot-1, 187-pounds carries strength throughout frame, some quick twitch muscle, moves well. Defensively, fields the middle confidently, attacks ground balls, showcased good body control and a loose arm action. Offensively, confident in the box, knows what he wants and hunts it. Line drive approach, uses the whole field. Aggressive on the bases, looks to take the extra bag routinely, puts pressure on the defense.


+ 2021 C Chris Akers (Top Tier National 16U) stands 6-foot, 175-pounds, right-handed hitter has strength through frame, still growing into frame. Stood out offensively for a number of quality at-bats he took in the afternoon. Has an approach at the plate, looks middle/in to drive the ball to the pull-side. Made hard contact multiple times. + 2021 RHP Brad White (Top tier National 16U) got the start and had it going for him against 5 Star North Carolina. At 5-foot-8, 135-pounds, has compact strength in frame. Arm works short to a ¾ slot, repeats consistently. Fastball sat 80-82, mixed in an 11/5 curveball at 69-70. Induced weak contact all afternoon in a six inning complete game performance.


+ 2021 LHP Riley Stokes (DBAT South Carolina 16U) had a solid outing on the mound. After allowing a few baserunners in the first couple innings, Stokes settled in and improved overall command of a three-pitch mix. Stokes is a competitive spirit that has the arsenal to develop in to a solid arm in the future.

 

+ 2021 RHP Brian Rapanan (Top Tier Americans 16U) picked up where he left off on the mound at LakePoint. After throwing a no-hitter in last month’s National Program Invitational, Rapanan tossed 4 scoreless frames in his start for the week. The C/RHP has shown advanced catch-and-throw behind the plate and matched that with his performance on the mound.


+ 2021 MIF Chris Schellhorn (Top Tier Americans 16U) has had a great start to his week. Schellhorn has held down the second base position with ease, showing good lateral movement and making all the routine plays. The LHH has been even more impressive with the bat, showing good barrel control with a smooth line-drive stroke.


+ 2021 Peter Levin (Release Baseball 16U) 6-foot-4, 200-pounds, 1B/3B is a Future Games player for Ohio picked up right where he left off yesterday. He smoked a ball off the left field wall that looked like a no doubter off the bat, but ended up being a stand up double. He can move well over at 1B for his size. His swing is smooth, and does a great job at using his entire body to hit the baseball. Seems like he has an approach at the plate as well. 


+ 2021 Caden Contant (Release Baseball 16U) 6-foot-1, 190-pounds, was over at 3rd for Release on Thursday. He has a really clean glove over at 3rd and had the ability to throw the ball well on the run. He moved side to side like a MIF, which makes it look like he could play anywhere on the infield. He had a couple loud outs at the plate. He transfers his weight well on his swing, and had the ability to stay back on 2 good breaking balls for solid contact. 

+ 2021 Luke Roggenburk (Release Baseball 16U) 6-foot-4, 190-pound, outfielder and RHP had a great day at the plate. Had 2 hard line drives with RISP. His swing is fluid, and has quick hands to make him a tough out at the plate. He was able to work the counts, and hit one breaking ball up in the middle with 2 strikes on him. 

+ 2021 Austin Wooten (615 Baseball 16U) got the start in the evening against Coastal Stars. The 6-foot, 185-pound left-handed pitcher has present strength in frame with more room to fill out. Arm action is long and continuous, does a nice job of hiding the ball, accelerates quickly to high ¾ slot. Fastball sat 81-84 with sinking action, comfortable with. Breaking ball, 1/7 shape, 69-71.

Day 1 - Wednesday

+ Uncommitted 2021 3B Brett Blair (Florida Elite 16U) stands 6-foot-2, 205-pounds with present strength throughout frame, room for additional gains, some quick twitch in athletic frame. The right-handed hitter takes a balanced, power setup at the plate with some bend in the knees. Present bat speed, looks to elevate the ball to the pull side. Undeniable power in the bat, with continued development will be a major long ball threat. Defensively, showed competent hands at third, arm works short and over-the-top, true backspin to throws, has more than enough strength to stick. Will be representing Team Florida at the 2019 Future Games next week.

+ 2020 RHP Elijah Peter (DBAT South Carolina - 16U) got the start against Florida Elite and controlled the game from the get-go. Lean frame at 6-foot-1, 155-pounds, the right-hander consistently worked between 80-84, maintained velocity throughout the game, featured running action. Caught batters off guard with a tight slider at 66-70 mph, Arm played clean on the back-side, hif the ball well, ¾ slot, repeated well.


+ 2021 SS Daniel Keber (DBAT South Carolina - 16U) had an impressive start to the PBR National Championships. An athletic 5-foot-11, 160-pounds, Keber stood out for his work offensively as well as in the field. Takes a balanced setup at the plate, simple approach, looks to barrel on ball and find the gaps in the defense. Went 3-for-3 with three singles (all to different parts of the park) and an RBI to open things up. Defensively, has feel around the bag, fluid footwork and exchanges, arm plays from the left-side.
+ 2021 RHP Deaton Oak (Viper Baseball Club 16U) is a lean, lanky 6-foot-2, 155-pounds, plenty of room for continued physical development. Works with a smooth, controlled rhythm in tall and fall delivery. Arm action is low, showing some on back, slot varied between ¾ and low ¾. Fastball sat 85-87, controlled the zone with. Good feel for breaking ball, 10/4 shape with depth and late sweep to it, 69-72. Took a no-hitter into the 5th inning against Gatorball.
+ 2021 RHP Brady Browning (Next Level 16U) impressed early on in his outing against Coastal Stars 16U Gold. Has a strong build with at 5-foot-10, 180-pounds. Good rhythm and an attack first mentality through the first few innings, missed barrels working solely off a fastball and cutter. Both pitches came in at 79-82. + 2021 C Houston Russell (Skills Academy 16U) did it all against the St. Pete Fire. A projectable 6-foot-1, 175-pounds, Russell is still growing into frame. Offensively, takes a balanced setup, reverse top tap stride, remains balanced throughout. Athletic hands, routinely put the barrel on the ball. Roped a two-run double down the line in addition to adding a broken bat single. Defensively, sound receiver, arm works short and loose, accurate on throws. Not afraid to keep runners honest, was tested early on and nailed a runner stealing. High defensive IQ.
+ 2021 3B Jacob Anthony Mata (Skills Academy 16U) is a stocky 5-foot-11, 185-pounds, strength throughout lower half. Hit out of the three-hole and delivered. In his first at-bat of the tournament showed off quick hands and a powerful swing as he banged one off the wall for a double. Looks to elevate the ball and do damage, made consistent hard contact.
+ 2021 RHP Laif Bradshaw (Skills Academy 16U) started on the mound versus St. Pete Fire. Bradshaw immediately sticks out with a set of broad shoulders on his 6-foot-2 frame. Was not overpowering with his stuff, but consistently hit spots and induced weak contact. Fastball played up to 80 mph. More in the tank as he continues to physically mature.

+ 2021 3B Ryan Willis (St. Pete Fire 16U) started off his tournament with a bang. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound right-handed hitter hit in the leadoff spot and made his presence known with a solo home run (375 foot carry, 97 mph exit velocity with wood). Willis will be a power bat to follow all week.

+ 2021 LHP Terence Sales (Ninth Inning Royals 16U)


+ 2021 SS/RHP Agyei Quinichett (Ninth Inning Royals 16U) started on the mound for Ninth Inning. An athletic prospect with developing strength throughout at 5-10, 165-pounds. Arm works long and over-the-top, fastball sat mostly 81-83 mph. Offensively, swings it with pull side pop, blasted a home run in his first at-bat.

+ 2021 SS Landon Underhill (NextLvl 16U) is 6-foot-1, 170-pound left-handed hitter, moves with smooth actions and apparent athleticism. First caught our eye on the infield when he showed off an athletic arm action while making a nice play on the move. At the plate, takes a line drive approach.

+ 2021 RHP Ethan Bell (Ironmen Prep 16U) took to the mound against NextLvl 16U. A lean, wiry 6-foot-1, 150-pounds. Arm works long, draw brings the ball wide on the back-side, showing as he comes to release from a ¾ to low ¾ slot. Worked mainly off fastball, sat 82-84 with armside run.


+ Michigan recruit 2021 SS/RHP Camden Gasser (Ironmen Prep 16U) picked up the save for Ironmen over NextLvl. On the mound, arm worked short, hides the ball some, ¾ slot, quick arm speed. Fastball touched 81 mph. Deceptive 11/5 curveball at 69-72, batters struggled to pick up the spin. A gamer, Gasser was impressive offensively, defensively and on the mound. At the plate, he showcased quick hands and a smooth left-handed swing.


+ 2021 Evan Davis (Team Georgia - 16U) kicked off his week with a multi-hit game. The left-handed hitting infielder showed the ability to stay in the middle of the field with a barrel that stays through the zone. His RBI single below proved to be a big one as TGBA picked up a win in walk-off fashion.


+ 2021 SS Tyler Fuller (Team Georgia - 16U) had an impressive game one on both sides of the ball. Fuller showed his defensive tool early by making ranging plays at SS. He displayed reliable hands and always seemed to be in the right spot on multiple balls hit to him. Fuller also came in clutch as he delivered the walk-off single to give TGBA a 1-0 record to start the week.


+ 2021 RHP/OF Conor Finegan had a solid effort in his start on the mound. Finegan showed a two-pitch mix that showed command on both sides of the plate. FB got up to 82 with above average effort, while the 12/6 breaking ball worked well from a over-the-top slot; 70-72mph. Finegan also had a multi-hit game out of the leadoff spot, including a 2B. Ran a 4.38 on the turn. 

+ 2021 RHP/3B Kamden Lance (Launch City - 16U) was relied on heavily as he got the start on the mound in game one. Lance battled on the mound while throwing consistent strikes. The 5-foot-10, 170 pound two-way player showed his hit tool with a hard-hit double down the LF line. Lance has a level, line-drive approach that will continue to make some noise as the week carries on. 

+ 2021 1B Cade Sadler (Rawlings Southeast American - 16U) impressed with his raw ability at the plate. At 6-foot-2, 175 pounds, Sadler looks to have untapped athleticism in the field. He showed a strong presence in the box. Hitting from an athletic, open stance, his hands worked freely on the load. A short swing path that produced hard contact to all fields. Showed the ability to handle high velocity as he laced a hard line-out to RF on an 87mph FB.

+ 2021 RHP Aidan Eichman (Arsenal - 16U) is an athletic arm at 6-foot-2, 175 pounds. Worked from a H3/4 slot with a very clean arm. Showed confidence in a two-pitch sequence in his start.


+2021 C Sam Lisiak (Arsenal - 16U) showed advanced feel at the plate. The 6-foot-2, 195 pound frame barreled balls in each at-bat, including two hard-hit line drives to the outfield. Good rhythm and gets set in time. Gets hands extended finds the barrel.


+ 2021 SS/RHP Logan McCoy (Arsenal - 16U) had a solid day in the field and on the mound. Starting at SS, McCoy made all the routine plays with ease. Has good first-step and attacks slow ground-balls. Can make the throw from all angles. Also came in relief, showing a quick arm with fastball touching 84. Repeated delivery well; good athlete, all around. 

+ 2022 1B Matthew Belleavoine (L&M - 16U) had one of the more impressive days at the plate. The big-bodied LHH hit multiple balls on the nose in game one. Uses strong lower-half well during swing and is a very exciting young bat to watch.


+ 2021 OF Marc DiSalvo (L&M - 16U) is a hard-nosed player out of Rhode Island that impressed at the plate. The LHH had multiple hits in his first game, including a 2B in the LCF gap. Long-limbed and loose at the plate, DiSalvo get the bat through the zone well and looks to drive pitches up in the zone.


+ 2021 RHP Carson Starnes (5 Star North Carolina - 16U) was very impressive in his start.  Above average tempo with high leg kick; works downhill. Full arm motion with good acceleration throughout. The uncommitted arm got up to 89mph with his fastball, and paired it with a sharp slider that sat 70-73. Uber-competitive that challenges with above-average stuff. 


+ 2022 3B Isaiah Lowe (5 Star North Carolina - 16U) was a sight to see in his first game of the tournament. The physical, young player showed a simple approach with plenty of power. Drove the ball to the deep part of the field in first two at bats, including a long double to the wall. Will be a bat that will continue to do damage as the week goes on.


+ 2021 CF CJ Henley (Rawlings SE), two-hole hitter, also sees time up the middle in the infield. Couple knocks on the day with a quiet, easy swing with bat to ball skills, staying up the middle and not trying to do too much. The hands work and there is a lot to like with the body as he will mature and add strength. 


+ 2021 LHP Jack Tullier started for Rawlings SE and was effective through 4 innings of work, striking out 4 and going mostly with a fastball/changeup combo. Worked down and to both sides of the plate with all his pitches, he attacked hitters early in the count, getting weak contact while mixing up his stuff and keeping hitters off balance. Room for more velo to come as there is feel and clean actions, Tullier should be able to bounce back this week as he kept his pitch count down. 


+ 2021 Emilien Pitre (ABC) is a left-handed hitting middle infielder, had multiple hits today and was a 4.15 down the line on an infield hit. It’s a simple, line drive approach with bat to ball skills. Scored from first on a ball in the gap and was moving around the bases. Body will fill out and add strength which will help Pitre drive the ball with more juice down the road.


+ 2022 OF Joshua Jones (ABC) had himself a day, collecting 3 hits, along with a double down left-field line. The body is going to grow and get stronger, and there is some feel for the barrel in the box. Young and time on his side, Jones is a guy to watch out for north of the border. 


+ 2021 Buck Olsen (Georgia Jackets) is a high energy lead-off hitter, left on left with speed and bat to ball skills. Gets out of the box well with a line drive approach. More juice to his pull side but will still take the outside pitch the other way. Tone setter at the top of the lineup, enjoyed watching him go about his business, type of player who makes things happen on the ball field. 


+ 2021 3B Quinn Petty (Georgia Jackets) is a physical right-handed hitter who played a strong third base. At the plate, drove the ball to middle of the field with a simple approach and minimal movement in the box. Present strength for Petty, he has a chance to tap into


+ Uncommitted 2020 LHP Johnny Eneberg of the Georgia Roadrunners is a wiry 5-9 140 pounds with room to go and juice in his arm. The arm speed projects well and he sits in his legs to generate velocity. Also comes across his body to make it tough of lefties with natural arm side run and sink. He also showcased a sweeping breaking ball from 69-72 mph to offset the fastball at 82-83 mph.


+ Uncommitted 2021 Elijah Padgett is a 6-1, 175 lb P/OF from the NB Legends. Padgett showed a simple and mature approach at the plate with a clear goal to go middle to opposite field. He let the ball travel well and stayed balanced through each of his at bats. Has advanced hands and showcased them by going down and ripping a ball up the middle today.


+ 2021 Clifford Pless was impressive from the leadoff position today for Game On Stealth, putting his speed on full display. In three at-bats, Pless attempted 3 bunts, with times down the line of 3.62, 3.63, and 3.75. He was successful with only one, but once he got on, he stole second, and ended up being the winning run in the bottom of the 6th. Uncommitted 2021 with elite speed, definitely a guy coaches need to be in on. 


2021 RHP Conner Sizemore (Game On Stealth) pitched 4 innings of 1 earned ball and that was a play that should of been made that went for an inside the park homerun. The 2021 grad sat 81-84,  working up down, in and out with control and confidence of his heater. The curveball kept hitters off balance with tight spin and 11/5 shape in the 70-73 range and attacked hitters, going right at them. 


2021 LHP Charlie Cmiel (Top Tier Americans) was on his game early, as the first six outs of the game were all recorded via strikeout. Cmiel pitched with rhythm and tempo, getting a ton of swings and missed on his fastball that worked in the 80-82 range while he complimented that with a tight CB with 1/7 shape and changeup that had fading action to his arm side. Expect the velo to climb as this arm has polish to his stuff and a 3 pitch mix. 


+ 2021 Ryan Orput (Top Tier Americans) is an athletic left-handed hitter was lead-off the game with a loud triple in the right-centre gap and added an RBI base hit later on to lead Top Tier offensively. Looked to pull the ball at the plate, Orput has the tools and actions of a hitter who can hit at the top of a lineup and being a base threat on the bags.


+ 2021 Peter Levin (Release Baseball) is an imposing and physical 6-foot-4, 200-pound, right-handed hitting outfielder looks the part and easily passes the eye test. Sat back on a breaking ball early on and laced a ground rule double to left field. It’s a balanced setup with loose hands, and he does not get cheated at the plate. Levin is a guy who profiles as a corner outfielder who can hit in the middle of the lineup. 


+ 2022 RHP/SS Gabriel Nard (Release Baseball)
+ Uncommitted 2021 William Zebick (615 Baseball) is a stout 6-foot-2 175-pound RHP with smooth mechanics and a whip action in the arm. He is subtle in the wind up to create momentum and energy toward the plate that allows for an efficient work load to keep him in games longer. He generated over 2000 RPM on a few fastballs suggesting he gets behind the ball well with quick arm action. He touched 85 mph with the fastball and countered it with a 65-70 mph breaking ball.
