Positional Profile: LHP - Florida, Projectable frame, but the overall feel to pitch coupled with a very clean arm action leads to a high ceiling as a projected starter. Fastball has a chance to make a big jump and feel for three offspeed pitches, all average or better. Very high ceiling and starter potential. Body: 6-foot-1, 170-pounds. Slender, lean frame long arms and legs.
Delivery: Simple, repeatable, in line and gets to extension well. Arm Action: LH. Clean takeaway, slightly offline, but works free and easy. FB: T85, 80-85 mph. Life with much more to come with added strength. Has great feel to locate anywhere in or out of the zone. CB: 68-72 mph. Average with some depth SL: 68-73 mph. Late, sweeping action and feel to spin it. CH: 73-75 mph. Late fade out of the same tunnel as FB. Chance to be plus pitch.

Big pitchability with plus command and for three pitches. All three pitches were on as usual as he really impressed in both appearances, striking out 5 and allowing no runs over 3 innings. Fastball sat 82-84, touching 86. Spin rate of 2080 rpm on the fastball explains the heavy sinking action. His best pitch is his fading 72-74 changeup, which he uses in any count, any situation. He has great feel for it and gets consistent swings and misses out of the zone. His third pitch, the slider, sits 74 and has above average depth and spin. He can get you out with any pitch at any time, but he rarely throws his slider outside of 2 strikes counts. He will make an impact at the next level as the pitchability and secondary stuff is elite and more velocity is definitely there in the lean body.

Lean 6-foot, 155 pounds. Sat 84-85, touching 86 mph. Has an advanced feel for three pitches. The 72 mph fading changeup is his bread and butter. He can throw it in any count and it gets swings and misses outside of the zone. The slider is also a well above average pitch with some sharp bite. He throws it at 69-70, and the pitch will only become better as he throws it harder. Pitchability really stood out in his dominant 2 innings striking out every batter he faced.

Uncommitted. Currently 5-foot-11 145 pounds. Lean, long limbed, very projectable. Has an advanced feel on the mound for his age and showed the ability to throw three pitches for strikes. Throws from a very loose high 3/4 slot. The fastball works 76-79 mph with consistent armside run. His changeup is the equalizer, not scared to throw it in any count and is clearly his best secondary pitch. The pitch is 67-68 mph with fade and depth as he pronates the pitch. Flashed a few curveballs at 63-64 mph with 2/7 shape. Presently his 3rd best pitch. shows the ability to throw it for strikes to lefties. Intriguing young lefty that will only continue to get better. Great student 4.8 GPA

Son of a former big league pitcher Gar Finnvold, you can see that Carsten has been taught well and shows an advanced feel for pitching for his age. In his two innings he went six up, six down while striking out two. The delivery is simple, repeatable and mechanically sound. He could get more use from the lower half, but everything works and will continue to improve as he grows and becomes stronger. The fastball worked 74-76 mph, curveball at 60-62 mph and a changeup at 67-69 mph. Shows a feel for all three pitches and all have potential to be above average pitches as he continues to get stronger.
