Florida Underclass Games: Class of 2021 Breakdown

The Underclass Games is one of the premier underclass events in the state. Over the last year, there have been 29 commitments from the 2018-2020 classes with 23 of those being to Division I programs. Past events have featured players like Jackson Miller (Wake Forest), Juson Fabian (Florida), Brandon Walker (Florida State), Ryan McCauley (Tennessee) and McGwire Holbrook (West Virginia) to name a few.

This year’s event is filled with talented, uncommitted players from the 2019-2021 classes. Today we break down the players from the class of 2021.

Jackson Unice 1B / OF / Calvary Christian , FL / 2021

5-foot-10, 160 pound first baseman. Ran a 7.47 60 yard dash. At first base shows sound defensive actions, the hands work well and showed accurate throws topping out at 60 mph. Offensively, the right handed hitter has some stiffness in the separation, but is level through the zone. Created an exit velocity of 74 mph. Will continue to improve with added strength.

Dylan King C / SS / American Heritage, FL / 2021

At 5-foot-10, 145 pounds the catcher has plenty of room to grow and fill out. Ran a 7.53 60 yard dash. Defensively shows some athleticism. The feet and hands work well. Shows a strong arm for his class, topping out at 70 mph and pop times in the 2.2-2.25 range. Offensively, he is very simple. There is no load which can create some steepness at times. When level through the zone, he drove balls from gap to gap. There is a lot of athleticism and a lot to like going forward.

Carsten Finnvold LHP / OF / American Heritage Delray, FL / 2021

Son of a former big league pitcher Gar Finnvold, you can see that Carsten has been taught well and shows an advanced feel for pitching for his age. In his two innings he went six up, six down while striking out two. The delivery is simple, repeatable and mechanically sound. He could get more use from the lower half, but everything works and will continue to improve as he grows and becomes stronger. The fastball worked 74-76 mph, curveball at 60-62 mph and a changeup at 67-69 mph. Shows a feel for all three pitches and all have potential to be above average pitches as he continues to get stronger.

Adrian Quinonez OF / LHP / Lehigh Senior, FL / 2021

5-foot-8, 145 pound left handed hitting outfielder. Ran a 7.65 60 yard dash. From the outfield, topped out at 79 mph with accurate throws. Offensively, he hits with rhythm and a leg kick trigger. His hands are loose and creates above average bat speed. Created an exit velocity 82 mph. The swing is short and has potential for gap to gap power. On the mound, he had a fastball that worked from 76-77 mph and a curveball at 65-66 mph. Threw strikes and struck out one in his inning of work.
