Senior State Games Preview
September 25, 2020
The inaugural Senior State Games starts tomorrow at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach, FL. The event will feature some of the top 2021 prospects in the state of Florida, both committed and uncommitted players. Today, we will preview the Senior State Games, highlighting the players who will be in attendance from each region.
North
Starting with the North Region. On the mound is big 6-foot-6, uncommitted RHP Levent Eldem. ETSU commit Trevor Hanselman joins Eldem as the second RHP on the staff. Joining the pitching staff are two uncommitted LHP’s Carson Dorsey and Carson Ramsey. Behind the plate for the North region are two uncommitted backstops in Jordan Jerkins and Dario Astudillo. In the infield is UNF commit SS/RHP Drew Leinenbach and uncommitted SS Ryan LeNeave. Leinenbach will also spend time on the mound. In the outfield for the North is Jacksonville commit and former Future Gamer, Clayton Hodges. Joining Hodges are five talented uncommitted players who shouldn’t stay uncommitted for long in Josh Green, Kaleb Henry, Nic Taylor, Russell Allen, and Will Brown. Brown, Henry, and Allen will see time in the infield as well.
South
The South Region is led by 11 year Major League veteran pitcher Joel Pineiro. Pineiro coaches a very talented South team led by a talented pitching staff. That pitching staff features Pineiro’s son and new FIU commit Joel Pineiro. Joining Pineiro are right-handers Chandler Marsh (Georgia) and Fisher Jameson (Wofford), both who sit in the upper 80’s and touch the low 90’s. Louis Castano joins the staff as the lone uncommitted RHP. The South region features two committed southpaws in Florida commit Carsten Finnvold and FGCU commit Jacob Marlowe. Behind the plate are two of the top catchers in the South region in UNC commit Dylan King and Wake Forest commit Gio Cueto. At first base for the South region are two uncommitted prospects in Evan Ames and Marcus Franco. Rounding out the infield is a trio of athletic committed infielders in USF commit Gavin Conticello, Miami commit Dorian Gonzalez, and Stetson commit Andrew Estrella. SS/OF Kyle Marti is the lone uncommitted middle infielder and is one of the top uncommitted players in the state. In the outfield for the South is recent Louisiana Tech commit Jack Cue and Bethune Cookman commit Emilio Portes. Rounding out the outfield is uncommitted Ryan Scarry, one of the top uncommitted outfielders in the state.
East
Next up is the East Region. Coaching the East Region will be 6 year MLB veteran outfielder Jordan Schafer. The East team features three PO’s as well as many two-way players. Those PO’s are uncommitted RHP’s Ethan Engelmeyer, Andrew Ward, and Gage Allen. Behind the plate is Florida State commit Jaime Ferrer and uncommitted Isaiah Montes. In the infield is former Future Gamer, William “Bubba” Hagen at 1st. Joining Hagen at the corners is Stetson commit Dominic Scavone, and uncommitted 3B Damian Goulart and Ty Greene. Hagen, Scavone, and Greene will all see time on the mound as well. Up the middle, the East has uncommitted SS Irvin Murr III and international SS Christian Febus. The East region features three of the top outfielders in the state in Florida commits, Corey Robinson and Matthew Prevesk, and FIU commit Victor Rodriguez. Joining the outfielders is uncommitted Aaron Saltsman, as well as two-way prospects OF/LHPs Ian Anderson and Kenneth Eccleston (Miami).
West
Last but not least is my West Region. The West Region is coached by 9x MLB All-Star Gary Sheffield. The West team will feature 5 POs in RHP’s Jose Pena (FIU), Jack Cebert (USF), Davian Garcia (Flagler) as well as LHP’s Evan Clark (Georgetown) and Skyler Netolicky. Behind the plate for the West are two of the top catchers in the state in USF commit Tayden Hall and Florida State commit Satchell Norman. At first base is athletic 1B/OF Andrew Burns. The infield rounds out with four uncommitted middle infielders in 2B/OF Garrett Browning, Christopher Basile, Patrick Sheffield, and Michael Sowers. Browning will see time on the mound as well. In the outfield is uncommitted outfielder Jaden Sheffield, the son of Gary Sheffield. OF/RHP Harrison Povey (FGCU), and uncommitted Tyler Whitfield.
We are excited for this weekend’s event and can’t wait to compete for regional bragging rights.
