Jerkins is a physical catcher that continues to develop his game offensively and behind the plate. At 6-foot, 200 pounds, Jerkins moves well laterally behind the plate. His transfers are quick and he showed an above average arm with throws of 80 mph down to second. Above average pop times of 1.87-1.93. Offensively, he uses a toe-tap to create rhythm in his swing. He has a level, line drive swing that results in a lot of hard contact. The swing translated in game as he barreled a couple ball back up the middle.
8/22/19
Strong, tough backstop with a quick arm. Threw a firm 81 down to second from straight over the top. Popped in the 2.07-2.19 range. Transfers are clean but can be a touch quicker. Controls his body well while moving quickly. Uses lower half and feet well for good momentum towards second base. Offensively, his hands are whippy and he generates good bat speed. Present pull side pop as he improves his ability to let the ball get deeper. Gets good drive from the lower half, could benefit from more top half separation in the load. Above average understanding of the strike zone. 90 mph exit velocity.
5/18/19
At 6-foot, 195 pounds, he has a physical but lean frame. He stood out as much with his personality and how he carried himself as he did with his play. Played with energy and life, and for a large frame, has present athleticism, running a 7.39 60 yard dash. Defensively, he is flexible in his hips in ankles. Sits comfortably receiving, using his strength to his advantage both blocking and receiving. Has a feel for the position and as long as he can maintain the flexibility, has the chance to be a well above average defender. Also showed an above average arm, topping at 79 mph with pop times in the 1.9-1.96 range. Offensively, the swing is simple and optimizes his strength by staying balanced in the lower half and compact through the zone. Has above average pull side power and the simple swing plays in-game with minimal swing and miss. Overall, he was one of the more impressive players in attendance with present tools and still a high ceiling.
