2018 PBR FL Underclass Games: Pitcher Breakdown

Saturday June 23rd at Henley Field in Lakeland, FL, the top underclass high school prospects ranging from the 2020-2022 classes participated in the 2018 Florida Underclass Games which is one of the premier scouting event for the 2018 summer season. With a talented roster on hand, players participated in a pro-style workout followed by two ten inning games.
Over the past two weeks, we have broken down each position through stats, report, video, and more. Positions were broken down by: outfielder, corner infielder, middle infielder, catcher, two-way.This is followed by top overall prospects, Future Games and Jr Future Games invitations. Today we take a look at the Pitchers, starting with the top five and followed by the best of the rest.

Luke Baker LHP / Buchholz, FL / 2020Rankings StateRank: 71 / POS: 9
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot-5, 188 pounds with a tall, lanky, projectable frame. Plenty of room to fill out. One of the biggest standouts on the mound in game action. Creates downhill plane from good extension with release point. Repeats delivery well given the age and size. Generated many late swings with his fastball at 83-87 mph. He shows feels for a curveball with bite at 70-72 mph. The stuff continues to trend upward and is presently above average, given the frame and advanced feel Baker will be an exciting pitcher to follow going forward

Ryan McCauley RHP / 1B / Tarpon Springs, FL / 2020Tennessee recruit. Tall, strong, durable frame standing at 6-foot-5, 215 pounds. Polished right hander that attacks the bottoms of the zone. Shows confidence and composure. Minimal effort in the delivery. Fastball worked 82-84 mph with heavy life. His splitter at 68-69 mph was arguably the best secondary pitch at the event. The pitch shows late tumble and was used just as much as the fastball. He will throw this pitch in any count and shows extreme confidence in it. Produced many ugly swings and the splitter helps the fastball play up. Will be a force with another velocity spike. High follow

Jack Cebert RHP / 3B / Tampa Prep, FL / 2021Uncommitted. Currently a wiry 6-foot-1 152 pound frame with plenty of room for added strength. Clean, repeatable delivery. His arm works well from a high 3/4 slot, high glove side adds noticeable deception. Present arm speed should allow for added velocity growth. Fastball worked 80-82 peaking at 83 mph. The pitch was fairly straight, but had life through the zone. Curveball was his out pitch. It had tight spin with late break and work 70-71 mph. Flashed a couple changeups at 73 mph with some fade. Expect to see Cebert make some jumps as he continues to add to his frame and mature. High upside arm that should be followed. Good student 4.0 GPA

Carsten Finnvold LHP / OF / American Heritage Delray, FL / 2021Uncommitted. Currently 5-foot-11 145 pounds. Lean, long limbed, very projectable. Has an advanced feel on the mound for his age and showed the ability to throw three pitches for strikes. Throws from a very loose high 3/4 slot. The fastball works 76-79 mph with consistent armside run. His changeup is the equalizer, not scared to throw it in any count and is clearly his best secondary pitch. The pitch is 67-68 mph with fade and depth as he pronates the pitch. Flashed a few curveballs at 63-64 mph with 2/7 shape. Presently his 3rd best pitch. shows the ability to throw it for strikes to lefties. Intriguing young lefty that will only continue to get better. Great student 4.8 GPA

Jake Little RHP / 1B / Berkeley Prep, FL / 2020Uncommitted. The Long Limbed 6’5 205 pound right-hander with a super protectable frame. Throws from a clean 3/4 arm slot that produces some arm side run. The fast worked 83-85 mph and produced many uncomfortable swings. The breaking ball needs some development and was 69-70 mph with a slurvy shape. At times his body beats his long levers down the mound causing his arm to to be late. As he continues to mature and have better control of his body Project him to be a high level arm.

Colby Fanning RHP / 2B / Strawberry Crest, FL / 2021Uncommitted. Lean, fast twitch athlete. At 140 pounds he will only get better as he adds strength. Throws from a clean,natural 3/4 arm slot that works. Utilized a drop and drive delivery that creates good momentum down the hill. Pounds the zone fearlessly with all pitches. Fastball shows life at 79-82 mph and was thrown to both sides of the plate effectively. Slurvy breaking ball with late sharp sweeping action. Was able to throw it for strikes and down as an out pitch. Mixed in a couple changeups at 72 mph that were thrown with fastball armside. Although the pitch lacked depth in this look he located it down effectively. High energy,good competitor.

Chris Coll RHP / Lake Nona, FL / 2020Uncommitted. Slender build with plenty of room to fill out. On the mound, works with a quick tempo that can cause him to leak through his gather over his backside. Missed high and armside due to the lower half beating his arm down the hill. He has some present arm speed and ran his fastball up to 80 mph. Also mixed in an overhand breaking ball at 66 mph and a changeup with fade at 72 mph. As he learns to consistently gather and get to extension, he should see more consistency and make quality jumps.

Austin Tanner RHP / Windermere Prep, FL / 2020Uncommitted. Protectable lean, athletic build. Quick tempo delivery on the mound. Does a good job utilizing his lower half by sitting on his back leg down the hill. Fastball worked 81-83 touching 84 mph. Fairly straight, but has some life when thrown down in the zone. The curveball worked 64 mph. Tanner has plenty of upside to be a strong follow.

Nash Adkins LHP / Ocoee, FL / 2020Uncommitted. Stands 5-foot-10 with a frame that will see added strength to it. Throws from a natural 3/4 arm slot that produces arm side run. Works with a high front side and gets extension over the front side. His fastball sits 70-72 mph while mixing in a 56-57 mph curveball with 1/7 shape.

Mitchell Harding RHP / OF / Olympia, FL / 2020Uncommitted. The strong athletically built right-hander at 6-foot-1, 205 pounds throws form a 3/4 slot. The delivery shows present effort and in this look struggled with command of the fastball, as he tends to fall off to the first base side leading to an inconsistent release point. The fastball shows some life and worked 78-80 mph. His curveball was 66-67 mph with spin. As he learns to trust the strength throughout the frame, staying on line and using the strong lower half, he has ability to make some big, quick jumps.

Will Stroud RHP / 1B / Lake Highland Prep, FL / 2020Rankings StateRank: 105 / POS: 18
A physical 6-foot-1, 185 pounds. He features a large frame and has a clean, full arm swing, throwing from a high 3/4 slot. Lands slightly closed and when he gets extended th fastball has some heaviness a 79-82 mph. Showed a feel for a changeup at 61 mph and a curveball at 66-69 mph. He would strike out a pair in his two innings of work.

Trey Hinchliffe RHP / 1B / Berkeley Prep, FL / 2020High waist, projectable frame at 6-foot-2, 185 pounds. Arm swing works behind him and could benefit from a better leg drive. Working with an up-tempo delivery the fastball worked 76-79 mph. Also feature a 60-61 mph curveball and a 70-71 mph changeup. There is some quickness in the arm and the frame gives him some upside.
