2021 Right Handed Pitchers On the Rise

Colton Provey
Tennessee Scouting Director

Station Camp RHP Chase Burns recently jumped up to the number one overall spot for the 2021 class after showcasing a 95-98 mph fastball and an advanced arsenal of secondary offerings, headlined by a 85-87 mph slider.  Currently, 15 division one commits in the 2021 class for right-handed pitchers with plenty more to come off the board as the summer circuit gets going.  Luke Sinnard (Station Camp) and Blake Bradley (Huntingdon) spring-boarded into the rankings after both flashed a 90 mph fastball this Spring.  Below we give an in-depth analysis of eight righties on the rise plus the top 30 positionally.

2021 On the Rise:

Catchers | First Base | Mid. Infielders | Third Base | Outfielders | Righty Pitchers | Lefty Pitchers |

Right Handed Pitchers

Luke Sinnard | RHP | Station Camp | Rank: 41
The 6-foot-7, 250-pound right hander was a late addition to the rankings after flashing an explosive fastball at 87-90 in some bullpen work at Ward Performance Institute. Towering frame with great projectability and long limbs. Arm works to high 3/4 slot and fastball jumps out the hand, really gets good extension.  Developing a curveball with good velocity (73-76) and chance to be a put away pitch in future.  Currently though, Sinnard’s best secondary is a splitter at 80-82 with good depth and late bite.  Threw several where the bottom fell out for a swing and miss offering.  Jumped to the top of the board for the position group.

Elijah Dew | RHP | CAK | Rank: 43
6-foot, 170-pound righty can really move his arm with great arm speed and potential. Lean frame, looks to add strength.  Simplified delivery showing more rhythm and consistency.  Mid to upper 80s out of a high 3/4 slot, spins it pretty well (2100-2350) and shown he can command it to outer half.  Spins a hard slider at 77-79 which flashes potential.  Shown great feel and command of low 70s curveball with good depth and shape (RPM 2400-2550).  Changeup at 79-81, developing feel but throws for strike with some arm side action.  Solid uncommitted arm who has present arm strength with an exciting future.

Blake Bradley | RHP | Huntingdon | Rank: 51
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound righty presented a very intriguing starter kit, showcasing frame, velocity and feel for spin.  Tall, high-waisted with some present lower half strength and super projectable.  Full wind-up delivery with super quick arm working to over the top release, intriguing velo ceiling.  Finding consistency in his delivery mechanics, mainly in lower half to give arm time to catch up.  Good downhill plane on FB flashed some run/cut variations at 86-90.  Tight, big downer CB with late bite when right, potential out pitch at 73-75.  More thrower like, but developing control and expecting a jump this summer.

Devyn McEachron | RHP | Stewarts Creek | Rank: 60
5-foot-10, 172-pound uncommitted right hander has continued to make strides since Underclass Games last July.  FB was 85-88 with late life and generates a lot of swing and miss when elevated.  Engages his lower half much more efficiently in his delivery. Good arm speed and arm stroke path.  Sharp curveball which tunnels well off elevated fastball at 72-74.  Flashes of being a plus offering with more consistency in delivery.  Consistently around the zone.

Jack Nedrow | RHP | Siegel | Rank: 67
The 6-foot-2, 175-pound Siegel ace right hander has a high pitchability and pounds the zone while inducing weak contact.  Feel for three pitch mix and commands well around the zone, really limits mistake pitches.  Simple delivery, rock and fire style with quick arm into high 3/4 slot.  FB consistently in the mid 80s with plenty left in the tank based on frame.  FB has some occasional arm side run and dodges barrels.  Medium, downer CB in low 70s with proper shape and rotation, flashes of tightness.  Solid changeup in low 70s with slight arm side fade and potential depth.  Projectable.

Grant Burleson | RHP/1B | Summertown | Rank: 69
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound righty has been waiting a long time to make his full return to the circuit.  Well over a year out of Tommy John surgery, Burleson looked really sharp and back to 100% (Up to 87 in 2018).  Fastball sat 81-85, Top 87, smooth rhythm, quick arm w/ plenty more in the tank.  Best secondary was hard biting 11/5 curveball (69-71) that’s going to generated a lot of swing n’ misses.  Showed ability to throw CH down in zone or miss down w/ slight fade.  At the plate, balanced setup w/ great bat speed.  Sprayed balls gap-to-gap, consistent hard contact, can get extra base hits in bunches.  Potential collegiate two-way, who has a busy summer in front of him.

Jameson Nephew | RHP | Siegel | Rank: 70
The 6-foot-3, 190-pound projectable arm has slowly been climbing up the board since breaking into the rankings in September.  Quick, loose arm that works up to over the top slot coming almost from behind righty batter.  High effort, drop and drive towards the plate. In September, Nephew was 85-87 at the LakePoint Fall Invitational and had a strong start going a CG, 12-K performance against rival Riverdale in his only start this high school season. Tremendous amount of natural cut on the fastball, much more in the tank.  Mixes an upper-60s 12/6 curveball with proper shape and depth.   Developing feel for changeup  at 67-70 with mix of fade and occasional cut.

Chris Campanella | RHP | Baylor | Rank: 74
Uncommitted, 2019 PBR Future Games participant.  5-foot-10, 150-pound wiry, lean frame. Worked from 1B side of rubber.  The arm is quick, loose out of 3/4 slot. Lands heel first, square/slight closed with firm front leg for good extension.  His FB was 84-87 with steady of mix of natural cut, or occasional sink. Pitch could really cut in on LHH or turn over for late sink action away from LHH, impacting his command a bit.  His CB worked 69-72 with 11/5 action, steady improvement from over the summer. Mixed CH 76-79 with some fade and depth, utilized to mostly LHH. A clean, raw arm w/ some natural stuff, looks to put it all together during 2020 summer.
