In the last weekend of October, PBR Virginia/DC hosted its inaugural State Games, which featured over 180 players and two locations, City Stadium and Liberty University in Lynchburg. We begin our detailed breakdown of that event with the 2021s who participated:

 

Joey Allen 1B / RHP / Greenbrier Christian Academy , VA / 2021 Allen is 5-10 with a strong frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, strides on line, smooth load back. Hips rotate with some violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, quick to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing, strong at contact with extension through the ball, showed a good approach working primarily gap to gap, some power present to all fields, exit velocity was 89. In the infield, gets behind the ball and fields with a wider base and average hands, works through ball to a clean exchange, throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 73. On the mound, he throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short free arm action and normal effort to his delivery. Drop and drive delivery, shoulders are uphill and closed, lands square with an athletic finish. Fastball was 70-74, touching 75, with some late armside run and depth. Curveball had some armspeed and was 64-68 with gradual 12/6 break to it. Showed a change-up in warm-ups with some armspeed and fade to it.

 

 

Aiden Barry RHP / OF / Warhill , VA / 2021 Barry is 6-2 with a very lanky frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, strides on line, short load back. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, goes straight to the ball, slightly uphill swing path, showed a good approach working gap to gap, exit velocity was 76. In the outfield, gets body behind the ball and aggressively fields through it with above average hands, quick clean exchange, throws from a higher three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 74. Ran a 7.63 60 yard dash.On the mound, he throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short free arm action with some quickness and normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are level and closed, lands closed with an athletic finish and some recoil. Fastball was 78-80, with some armside run to it. Curveball had good armspeed and was 70-71 with gradual 10/4 break to it. Showed a change-up in warm-ups with good armspeed and fade.

 

 

Robert Boykin RHP / St. Christopher's, VA / 2021 Boykin is 6-3 with a lankier athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short free quick arm action and normal effort to his delivery. Drop and drive delivery, shoulders are uphill and closed, lands closed with a slight fall off finish and some recoil. Fastball was 78-81, touching 82, with some late sink to it and a touch of run when thrown to armside. Curveball had good armspeed and was 63-66 with sharp 11/5 break to it.

 

 

 

Zackary Chadwell RHP / 1B / Hickory, VA / 2021 Chadwell is committed to High Point and is 6-5 with an athletic frame that has some strength present and some projection left to it. He hits from the left side from a slightly open relaxed athletic stance, low leg kick stride on line, short load back. Hips rotate with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short and quick to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing, very strong at contact with extension through the ball, showed a good approach working primarily gap to gap, power present to all fields, exit velocity was 95. Ran a 7.16 60 yard dash. On the mound, he throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, short loose quick arm action and some effort to his delivery. Drop and drive delivery, shoulders are level and closed, lands square with an athletic finish and some recoil. Fastball was 86-88, touching 89, with hard boring run to armside. Curveball had good armspeed and was 76-77 with late hard 11/5 break to it. Change-up was 80-83 with good armspeed and heavy late fade to it.

 

 

Addison Clark OF / 1B / Carlisle, VA / 2021 Clark is committed to VMI and is 6-3 with a strong athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a relaxed balanced athletic stance, strides on line, short smooth load back. Hips rotate completely with a lot of violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short and quick to the ball, whip in his bat, very strong at contact with extension up through the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing path, showed a slight pull preference with the ability to work gap to gap, easy power to all fields, ball jumps off bat, exit velocity was 103.

 

 

Vincent DiLeonardo OF / 1B / Fredericksburg Christian, VA / 2021 DiLeonardo is committed to Elon and is 6-1 with an athletic frame that has strength in the lower half and some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, leg kick stride on line, loads down and back. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short and quick to the ball, fast bat, strong at contact with some extension through the ball, uphill swing path, showed a slight pull preference with the ability to work gap to gap, doubles power to all fields with potential to add more, exit velocity was 92. In the outfield, gets body behind the ball and fields through it with above average hands, clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, loose arm action, position velocity was 82. Showed versatility taking balls at first as well. Ran a 7.08 60 yard dash.

 

 

Brock Duff RHP / 1B / Liberty Christian Academy, VA / 2021 Duff is committed to UVA Wise and is 6-2 with an athletic frame that has some strength present in the lower half and some projection left to it. He throws from a higher three-quarters arm slot, short free arm action and higher effort to his delivery. Shoulders are level and closed, lands square with an athletic finish. Fastball was 80-84, with downward plane and a bit of late run. Curveball had good armspeed and was 67-69 with sharp 11/5 break to it, got swing and misses with the pitch.

 

 

Joey Duffer C / 1B / Halifax, VA / 2021 Duffer is committed to Concord and is 6-1 with an athletic frame that has strength present and some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, short stride on line, short load back. Hips rotate completely with violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short and quick to the ball, slightly uphill swing path, very strong at contact with good extension through the ball, showed a good approach working gap to gap, power present to all fields, exit velocity was 97. Ran a 7.40 60 yard dash.

 

 

Dustyn Fitzgerald OF / RHP / Stuarts Draft, VA / 2021 Fitzgerald is 6-1 with an athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the left side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, two touch stride on line, short load back to a slight wrap. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing, gets extension up through the ball, showed a good approach working primarily gap to gap, some power present to the pull side and in the alleys, exit velocity was 90. In the outfield, gets body behind the ball and fields through it with above average hands, quick clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 78. Ran a 7.41 60 yard dash. On the mound, he throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot, long free arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are level and closed, lands closed with an athletic finish. Fastball was 72-75, with a bit of late run. Curveball had good armspeed and was 60-62 with sharp 11/5 break to it.

 

 

Jacob Friend C / OF / Yorktown, VA / 2021 Friend is committed to Davidson and is 6-1 with a lanky athletic frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He hits from the left side from a slightly leaned back taller athletic stance, low leg kick stride on line, short smooth load back to a slight wrap. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short and quick to the ball, slightly uphill swing with strength at contact and extension through the ball, showed a pull preference with easy gap power that way and ability to work gap to gap, potential to grow into more power, exit velocity was 93. Ben Grady SS / 3B / Nansemond Suffolk, VA / 2021 Grady is 5-9 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. Griffin Graham OF / RHP / Clover Hill, VA / 2021 Graham is 6-4 with a lanky frame that has a lot of projection left to it. Hands stay inside, short and quick to the ball, some whip in his bat, uphill swing path, some strength at contact with extension up through the ball, natural loft in his swing, showed a pull preference with the ability to work gap to gap, has some power present with chance to grow into more, exit velocity was 88. Shoulders are level and closed, lands square with an athletic finish. Fastball was 75-78, with heavy boring action to armside and a bit of depth. Curveball had good armspeed and was 67-70 with late 11/5 break to it.

 

 

Gavin Gregory RHP / Nansemond River, VA / 2021 Gregory is committed to Radford and is 6-2 with an athletic frame that has some strength present and some projection left to it. He throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, shorter free quick arm action and higher effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands square with a fall off finish and recoil. Fastball was 84-86, touching 87, with some downward plane and a bit of late hard run to armside. Curveball had good armspeed and was 71-75 with late hard 10/4 break to it.

 

 

Kevin Gunn RHP / SS / Dinwiddie, VA / 2021 Gunn is committed to Longwood and is 6-2 with a lankier athletic frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot, very short loose quick arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands square with an athletic finish. Fastball was 82-84, touching 85, with hard late armside run. Slider had good armspeed and was 75-78 with hard 10/4 break to it, flashed swing and miss and tunnels well off of fastball.

 

 

MJ Hunter SS / 2B / Christiansburg, VA / 2021 Hunter is committed to Concord and is 5-10 with an athletic frame that has some strength present and plenty of projection left to it. In the infield, rounds the ball and fields with a good wide base and soft hands, works through ball to a quick clean exchange, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 78. Ran a 7.25 60 yard dash.

 

 

Garret Kangas RHP / Carlisle, VA / 2021 Kangas is committed to Campbell and is 6-2 with an athletic frame that has some strength present and plenty of projection left to it. He throws from multiple arm slots, primarily working between flat sidearm and submarine, very short loose quick arm action and some effort to his delivery. He hits from the left side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, short stride on line, short smooth load back, quiet relaxed set-up. Hips rotate completely with violence and he maintains good lower half balance.
