VA/DC State Games
Kangas is 6-2 with an athletic frame that has some strength present and plenty of projection left to it. He throws from multiple arm slots, primarily working between flat sidearm and submarine, very short loose quick arm action and some effort to his delivery. Hinges at waist, shoulders are on line, lands square with a fall off finish. Fastball was 78-82, touching 83, with heavy armside run and some depth to it as well. Curveball had good armspeed and was 67-72 with sharp hard 10/4 break to it. Change-up was 67-69 with good armspeed and heavy fade.
Preseason All-State II
Kangas is 6-2 with an athletic frame with a strong lower half that has some projection left to it. He throws primarily from a hinged submarine arm slot, occasionally coming from a low three-quarters slot as well. Short loose arm action that is quick, some effort to his delivery. Shoulders on line, lands on line with an athletic finish. Fastball was 81-83, touching 84, with heavy sink to it. Curveball had good armspeed and late sharp 10/4 break at 68-69, breaking ball has more break when thrown from his higher slot. Change-up had good armspeed and was 70-71 with sink.
Top Prospect Games West
Kangas is 6-0 with an athletic frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a submarine slot after hinging at the waist, has a long arm action that that is loose and quick, normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are on line, lands on line with a fall off finish and recoil. Fastball was 78-81, with heavy run to armside that also has depth. Curveball was 69-71 with some armspeed and sharp 11/5 break. Slider was 74-75 with good armspeed and late hard 10/4 break. Change-up was 66-67 with good armspeed and heavy sink. Can throw all four for strikes and move fastball to both sides of the plate.
Preseason All-State I
Solid athletic frame at 6-foot, 180-pounds. Has added some good weight and looks stronger than the lsat time we saw him. Closed off setup, repeatable mechanics, pitching primarily out of the stretch with hands set low. Delivery shows effort and intent with a solid balance point before moving down the mound landing slightly closed. Short, quick arm action throwing from a submarine slot. Fastball had arm side run at 75-77 mph and a slight arm recoil on finish. Curveball came out of the same slot at 65-66 mph with a 10/4 shape. Changeup had late fade with arm speed at 70-72 mph. Does a nice job throwing three pitches with feel from a tough slot showing an advanced approach on the mound.
Underclass Games
Kangas is 5-11 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hinges to throw from a submarine slot and has a short, loose arm action with some quickness to it. Keeps body on line as he strides out and finishes in an athletic position. Fastball was 73-75, touching 76 with heavy armside run and some sink to it. Slider was 64-65 with late sweep and a bit of depth to it, he threw it with good armspeed. Change-up was 67-68 with heavy fade and very good armspeed. Advanced feel for his pitches as a submariner at this stage in his development.
