RHP Eric DeCosta (Wheaton Academy, 2024) keeps impressing with every look. A riser in our recent ranking update, DeCosta is a 6-foot-4, 215-pound premium uncommitted right-handed arm. In the two innings of relief work, DeCosta punched out four batters with a fastball playing up to 91 mph and sat 89-90 mph. A true slider with an average of 2500 rpm played as the main secondary off-speed, throwin with confidence at 80-81 mph.
1B Eric DeCosta (Wheaton Academy) is another right-handed hitter with an impressive frame and present bat strength. DeCosta has a 6-foot-4, 215-pound, long, high-waisted frame with plenty of more physical development to tap into down the road and creates leverage and bat strength in his swing. DeCosta swings with controlled intent, natural loft throughout and registered a 101.3 mph max exit velocity and 375’ max batted ball, both land him in the top-three from the event. Powerful right-handed swing with more to tap into moving forward.
Positional Profile: 3B/RHP
Body: 6-4, 215-pounds. Large, physical frame, high waist with long levers.
Hit: RHH. Open setup, works back to even with a medium stride, quiet hands pre-pitch. Stays through the zone, creates some bat-speed with an uphill path at times, uses the whole field.
Power: 101 max exit velocity, averaged 89.4 mph. 375’ max distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 80 mph. Short out of the glove, high 3/4 release. Changes slots on the move.
Defense: Steady actions, two-hand gather out front, receives the ball with soft hands.
Run: 7.64 runner in the 60.
Switch-hitting Eric DeCosta (Wheaton Warrenville South, 2024) is a 6-foot-4, 205-pound with all kinds of upside and power potential at the plate. It's a loose swing from both sides of the plate with more jump off the barrel and loud contact coming from the right-side of the plate. The swing stays on-plane working with natural loft throughout and controlled intent. High-follow bat and frame in the 2024 class.
