On February 25th, the PBR Illinois staff hosted the Preseason All-State: Upperclass showcase at The MAX in McCook, Ill., featuring many of the state’s top players inside the 2024 class. This event helped our staff gain a clearer picture of the on-the-rise prospects in Illinois and who needs to be followed closely this spring and beyond.

This week we began the analysis of the event with a look at the catchers and outfielders from the day. Today we finish off the position players with an in-depth breakdown of the infielders. We ranked the Top-10 uncommitted prospects from the day, as well as the top-8 committed prospects who came out and showed their gains they made over the winter. 

Looking at the uncommitted infielders, Jack Swaney (Rochester) is one name that warrants a mention and just missed the top-10 cut. Swaney has a physical left-handed bat and he led the event with a 384’ max batted ball and his hardest ball left the bat at 98.2 mph. 

TOP UNCOMMITTED INFIELD PROSPECTS

1. Alex Schimmel, Moline (IL), 2024
Positional Profile: SS/RHP
Body: 6-0, 190-pounds. Strong build, strength in the lower-half, round shoulders.
