Uncommitted. Ranked No. 74 in the state’s senior class. 6-foot, 190-pound frame with strength. Batted leadoff and started at shortstop for the Maroons. Left-handed hitter, starts tall, has a fluid and easy load with rhythm in his swing, showed barrel control and accuracy with easy juice up the middle and to the pull-side. Led the way offensively going 3-for-4 with three RBIs; his only out was a well-hit fly ball to deep right field. Defensively, Schimmel showed soft, fluid hands, confident with his glove and moves well to both sides, showed an above-average arm across the diamond; looks like he has the ability to stick up the middle at the next level. Schimmel is a must-know uncommitted middle infielder in the state’s senior class.
