WV Top Prospect Games Analysis: Blue Team

The summer rush of PBR events in Pennsylvania and West Virginia came to a close with the 2nd Annual WV Top Prospect Games on August 8 and 9. Prospects from four states assembled at the YMCA Kennedy Center Field in Huntington, WV for two days of nine inning games and showcase activities. Today we continue our analysis of the prospects in attendance by taking a look at the prospects that participated as a member of the Blue Team.

John ServelloJohn Servello, OF/RHP, (Hollidaysburg HS, PA), Class of 2017

Servello is a 6-foot, 195-pound two-way prospect that only participated on day one of the event. The primary outfielder made the most of his one day showcasing an 88 mph bat exit velocity and running a 6.94 60-yard dash. The right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and uses a short stride with a powerful lower half to create above average barrel whip. Servello went 0-for-2 in game action, but barreled the baseball in both at bats.

On the mound the righty sat 83-85 while topping at 87 mph. There is some effort in his high 3/4 delivery, but he has just recently made the move to the mound. Servello also showcased a 69 mph curveball with 11/5 rotation and a 75 mph changeup. He faced the minimum in his two innings of work, inducing five ground ball outs and retiring the final hitter on strikes.

Ben ArthurBen Arthur, OF, (George Washington HS, WV), Class of 2017

Arthur flashed the top 60-yard dash time of all prospects in attendance at 6.62. The 6-foot-1, 165-pound outfielder displayed plenty of fast-twitch actions showcasing an 84 mph arm from the outfield and an 83 mph bat exit velocity. Arthur starts his right-handed swing from a square stance and stays behind the baseball well using all fields with regularity. He went 3-for-7 with a double and three RBI over the course of two games played while swiping two bases. Arthur gets good jumps in the outfield and utilizes his foot speed to cover a great deal of territory.

Brady MinettiBrady Minetti, MIF, (Montour HS, PA), Class of 2016

Minetti impressed as the top middle infield defender in attendance. While the 5-foot-10, 155-pounder does not have elite arm strength (76 mph), he makes up for it by taking solid routes to the baseball and by making plays on the move routinely. The left-handed hitter ran a 6.77 60-yard dash while nursing a minor hamstring injury and went 3-for-7 in game play while extending numerous at bats with above average plate coverage. Minetti showcased an 82 mph bat exit velocity and the ability to use all fields well. He is a prototypical top of the order hitter at the next level and showed the versatility to be able to play three infield positions.

Jacob Bolander, RHP/3B, (East Fairmont HS, WV), Class of 2016

Bolander sat 79-81 from a high 3/4 arm slot registering five strikeouts over his three innings of work. The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder showed above average feel for his 71 mph curveball with 11/5 rotation and a 72 mph changeup that has late cutting action. Bolander ran a 7.89 60-yard dash and showcased capable defensive actions at third base with a 74 mph arm across the diamond. The right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and utilizes a leg lift stride to initiate his swing resulting in a bat exit velocity of 84 mph.

Bradley Davis, LHP, (Jefferson HS, WV), Class of 2016

Davis struck out three and allowed two runs on three hits over three innings of work. The 6-foot, 185-pound lefty sat 77-79 from a high 3/4 arm slot with some hip coil to his delivery. Davis displayed an athletic, repeatable delivery and similar arm speed on all his deliveries. He showed a 68 mph changeup, a 65 mph curveball with 1/7 rotation and a 72 mph slider in his arsenal of pitches. The uncommitted senior has an advanced feel for all his pitches and a solid knowledge of how to pitch. 

Victor Gonzalez, C/1B, (Berks Catholic HS, PA), Class of 2016

Gonzalez showcased pop times of 2.14-2.21 on throws of 67 mph from the crouch. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound C/1B ran a 7.45 60-yard dash and showed capable actions defensively around the first base bag. The right-handed hitter starts from a square stance with a leg lift stride. Gonzalez barreled the baseball routinely in batting practice showing some power to the pull side of the field.

Jacob Goodnight, MIF (University HS, WV), Class of 2016

Goodnight is a 5-foot-11, 140-pound right-handed hitter that starts from a slightly open stance with a deep load of the hands. The uncommitted senior showcased a 79 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 7.03 60-yard dash. Goodnight flashed a soft glove hand and the ability to play through the baseball with an accurate 77 mph arm across the diamond.

John Judy, C/RHP, (Hampshire HS, WV), Class of 2016

Judy showcased pop times of 2.16-2.26 on throws of 74 mph from the crouch. The 6-foot, 155-pound two-way prospect ran a 7.90 60-yard dash and registered a 71 mph bat exit velocity. The right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing going 2-for-7 with two runs scored during game action. Judy sat 79-81 from a high 3/4 arm slot during three innings of work, allowing two runs while striking out three. The right-hander also showed a 66 mph curveball with 11/5 rotation, a 72 mph changeup and a 68 mph knuckleball.

Nick Kempa, 1B, (Vincentian Academy, PA), Class of 2016

Kempa is a 6-foot-1, 205-pound two-way prospect that participated solely as a first baseman. The right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and utilizes a leg lift stride to initiate his swing with a bat exit velocity of 77 mph. Kempa displayed capable defensive actions with an accurate 70 mph arm across the diamond.

Logan McCoy, LHP, (Ripley HS, WV), Class of 2016

McCoy sat 72-74 from a high 3/4 arm slot during three innings of work. The lefty allowed one run on five hits keeping hitters off balance with a 65 mph curveball with 1/7 rotation. McCoy displayed good balance throughout his repeatable deliver and the potential for velocity gains as his 6-foot, 175-pound frame continues to mature.

Austin Puskar, OF/1B, (Connellsville HS, PA), Class of 2016

Puskar went 3-for-5 with a double over two games. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound left-handed hitter starts from an open stance with a high hands load. Puskar registered a registered an 83 mph bat exit velocity and showed the ability to routinely barrel the baseball in a strong round of batting practice. The uncommitted senior ran a 7.21 60-yard dash and displayed an accurate 77 mph arm from the outfield.

Blake Randell, OF/LHP, (Ellwood City HS, PA), Class of 2016

Randell is a 5-foot-11, 165-pound left-handed hitter that starts from a square stance with a high hands load. The uncommitted senior stays behind the baseball well and displayed a bat exit velocity of 78 mph. Randell went 4-for-7 at the plate in game action and ran a 6.96 60-yard dash. He showed athletic actions defensively with an accurate 77 mph arm from the outfield.

Cole Tilley, MIF/OF, (Cabell Midland HS, WV), Class of 2016

Tilley is a right-handed hitter that starts from a slightly open stance. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound uncommitted senior wore out the middle of the field during a solid round of batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 77 mph. Tilley showcased capable defensive actions with an accurate 78 mph arm across the diamond and showed solid foot speed with a 6.84 60-yard dash.

Jordan Walburn, LHP, (East Carter HS, KY), Class of 2016

Walburn sat 80-81 from a high 3/4 arm slot with late arm-side run to his fastball. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound lefty gets downhill well and registered three strikeouts in his three innings of work. Walburn also showcased a 71 mph curveball with 1/7 rotation and a 75 mph changeup thrown at near fastball arm speed.

Grant Wells, MIF/RHP, (George Washington HS, WV), Class of 2019

Wells starts from a square stance and utilizes a short lift-and-replace stride to initiate his right-handed swing with a bat exit velocity of 84 mph. The only 2019 prospect in attendance showed good balance throughout his swing and the potential for future power as he continues to mature physically. Wells ran a 6.95 60-yard dash and displayed solid actions defensively with the athleticism to remain on the left side of the infield.
