PA/WV Top Outfield Performances of the Summer

By Greg Williams
PA Director of Scouting

With the completion of the West Virginia Top Prospect Games the summer schedule of events in Pennsylvania and West Virginia have drawn to a close. In preparation for the start of the fall schedule of events that begin in September we now look back on some of the top performances of the summer.

Today we conclude our review by taking a look at the top outfield performances of the summer at a PBR event in Pennsylvania or West Virginia.

#1
Zach Kokoska, 2017, LHP/OF, (Greater Latrobe, PA)

Kokoska turned in one of the more impressive evaluation days of any member of Team Pennsylvania at the PBR Future Games in August. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound left-handed hitter registered a 96 mph bat exit velocity, showcased an 89 mph arm from the outfield and ran a 6.67 60-yard dash. Kokoska went 1-for-7 with a sacrifice fly and an RBI in game action and worked three scoreless innings on the mound. The lefty topped at 84 mph while consistently missing barrels with a cut fastball, curveball, slider mix. Kokoska struck out three and allowed just one hit during his time on the mound. We saw Kokoska up to 87 mph at the Western PA College Prospect Showcase in June.

#2  Michael Geesaman, 2017, OF, (Lower Dauphin, PA)

Geesaman stood out with a very athletic skill set at the PBR Future Games. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound left-handed hitter flashed an 89 mph arm from the outfield and the ability to go get the baseball. Geesaman made a fully-laid out diving catch in game action and ran a 6.77 60-yard dash on evaluation day. That speed was on display in game action as Geesaman swiped three bags in three games. Geesaman showed some pop in his bat during BP driving baseball to the pull side with a bat exit velocity of 89 mph.

#3  Alex Peterson, 2016, OF, (North Penn, PA)

Peterson is a 5-foot-9, 165-pound left-handed hitter. Started from an open stance and strode slightly closed. Picked up four barreled singles in the middle of the field, as well as a lineout to 1B, among six at-bats in game action at the PBR Mid-Atlantic Border Battle. Ran a 6.97 60-yard dash. Showcased 80-mph exit velocity and 81-mph arm strength during workout. Accurate arm. Took very good routes to the ball, tracking a line drive hit to his right while playing center and running down a ball slicing away from him toward the right field corner.

#4  Kirk Jennings, 2017, of/3B, (Cabell Midland, WV)

Jennings has a very projectable 6-foot-4, 195-pound frame. The right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a short lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Jennings displayed above average barrel whip and a feel for the barrel in one of the top rounds of batting practice at the WV Top Prospect Games. The junior registered a 90 mph bat exit velocity and went 3-for-6 at the plate in game action.Jennings flashed athletic actions defensively and the ability to go get the baseball with his foot speed (6.70 60-yard dash). While he lists third base as his alternate position, his 80 mph arm strength and athleticism will likely make him an outfielder at the next level.

#5  John Servello, 2017, OF/RHP, (Hollidaysburg ,PA)

Servello is a 6-foot, 195-pound two-way prospect that stood out at the WV Top Prospect Games. The primary outfielder made the most of his one day showcasing an 88 mph bat exit velocity and running a 6.94 60-yard dash. The right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and uses a short stride with a powerful lower half to create above average barrel whip. Servello went 0-for-2 in game action, but barreled the baseball in both at bats.On the mound the righty sat 83-85 while topping at 87 mph. There is some effort in his high 3/4 delivery, but he has just recently made the move to the mound. Servello also showcased a 69 mph curveball with 11/5 rotation and a 75 mph changeup. He faced the minimum in his two innings of work, inducing five ground ball outs and retiring the final hitter on strikes.
