PBR Mid-Atlantic Border Battle Analysis - Grey Team

The 2015 PBR Mid-Atlantic Border Battle took place on July 21-22, with 57 prospects from Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland gathering at the Harford Sports Complex on the campus of Harford Community College. Our rundown of the participants begins today with Grey team members from Pennsylvania. Keep an eye on PBR Maryland for a rundown of the Maryland and Delaware participants.
Class of 2016
Mason Abate, 2016, RHP, Malvern Prep
5-foot-9, 150-pound frame. Pitched out of a high three-quarter slot with hip coil over rubber and good direction toward home plate. Showed consistent stuff from when we saw him last month. Fastball sat 79-81 with 11/5 curveball at 66-68, while also mixing in a straight change-up at 72-73. Exhibited quick feet and short ball-to-ear release on pickoff attempts.
Connor Bair, 2016, RHP/3B, Manheim Township
*5-foot-9, 175-pound frame. Pitched out of an over-the-top slot and showed improved stuff from when we saw him last month. Fastball clocked in at 79-81 and showed a little bit of late tail. Much improved feel with tighter spin on his 11/5 curveball at 68-70 that was a quality pitch. Mixed in a change-up this outing at 69-70 that was thrown with fastball armspeed.
*Right-handed hitter started slightly open and strode to square, keeping his body still and using the middle of the field in BP. Ran a 7.53 60-yard dash and 4.78 in-game home-to-1B time. Showcased 78-mph exit velocity and 77-mph arm strength from the outfield during workout.
Dillon Good, 2016, 1B/RHP, Ephrata
*6-foot, 200-pound right-handed hitter. Started from a slightly open stance and strode to square. Showed over the fence power and consistently barreled the baseball in BP. Showcased 93-mph exit velocity and 78-mph arm strength during workout. Timing wasn’t quite there in game action as it has been at previous events, when he has driven the ball pullside on multiple occasions. Looked worn down physically; not unusual for players at this point in the summer.
*On the mound, arm slot looked a little lower than the high three-quarter it has been in the past, another indication he’s not physically where he was last month (when his fastball sat 82-84). This event, fastball was 80-83, while he also featured an 11/5 curveball at 65-66, and a split at 71-73.
Evan Moerschbacher, 2016, OF, State College Area
5-foot-9, 180-pound right-handed hitter. Started from a slightly open stance and strode to square. Draws hands back from midline in load. Flashed some bat speed with a fairly short path to the ball in a pull-oriented swing. Ran a 7.32 60-yard dash and a 4.59 in-game home-to-1B time (plus 4.66 twice on turns). Showcased 83-mph exit velocity and 76-mph arm strength during workout.
Class of 2017
Alex Bendzlowicz, IF/RHP, Central Bucks South
*6-foot, 180-pound left-handed hitter. Hit from slightly open stance with minimal stride, worked above the baseball and consistently put the barrel on it in BP. Ran a 7.44 60-yard dash (has previously posted a 7.22). Showcased 86-mph exit velocity and 77-mph arm strength during workout (pitched the day before; has previously shown 82-mph positional arm strength). Nonetheless, footspeed and range may profile best on a corner at the next level.
*On the mound, pitched out of a high three-quarter slot with abbreviated arm action and slight hip coil over rubber. Three-pitch mix included fastball at 80-81, curveball at 69-71, and change-up at 73-74.
Jack Hallowell, OF, Haverford
5-foot-8, 150-pound right-handed hitter. Started from an open stance and strode to slightly open. Worked hard to stay inside the baseball and used the middle of the field in BP. Ran a 6.72 60-yard dash and 4.47 in-game home-to-1B time on a turn. Showcased 79-mph exit velocity and 76-mph arm strength during workout. Arm strength will play up if he can shorten his time from catch to release.
