The 2019 Preseason All-State Showcase took place February 24th at Pro Performance RX in Morgantown, WV. Today we continue a series of articles analyzing the prospects in attendance with a look at the  First Basemen that participated.

First Basemen

Grant Hussey, Parkersburg South, Class of 2021

Offensively, the 6-foot-3, 215-pound primary First Basmen displays a low effort swing that created huge pop off his barrel. Hussey registered a 92 mph exit velocity of the tee which continues to be a leader in the state. He continue to get better every time he shows up to an event. A 7.11-laser timed 60 was recorded.

Defensively, Hussey showed continued solid footwork around the bag to go along with an above average lateral mobility. His hands are very soft and his glove presentation is advanced. 

Ryan Brown, Williamstown, Class of 2019

Offensively, the 5-foot-10, 205-pound primary First Basmen initiates his swing out of a open, neutral position. He creates good action and torque through a solid core and hip turn. He also displayed a solid exit velocity of 83 mph off the tee. A 7.51-laser timed 60 was recorded.

Defensively, Brown displayed a average glove along with a long throwing motion to third base. Brown did display solid footwork around the bag to go along with a 80 mph velocity across the infield. 

Zac Rose, Jefferson, Class of 2021

Offensively, the 6-foot-3, 230-pound primary Pitcher initiates his swing out of a spread, neutral athletic stance. He distributes his weight well from back to front in his swing. His smooth hands help him create good bat speed and a 87 mph velocity was recorded off of the tee. He ran a 7.87-laser timed sixty.

Defensively, Rose fields the ball in the middle of his body and out front in an athletic position. Footwork is not an issue as he handles himself well around the bag. A 79 mph velocity across the diamond was recorded.

Hunter Ridgeway, Greenbrier East, Class of 2020

Offensively, the 6-foot, 215-pound primary Pitcher starts in a neutral setup. He displayed the ability to constantly find the barrel and drive the ball back through the box. A 94 mph exit velocity was recorded, good for second best at the event. 

Defensively, Ridgeway moves very well around the bag. Displays confidence in his glove and footwork. A 78 mph positional velocity was recorded. 

Jared Hall, Willoughby South, Class of 2020

Offensively, the 6-foot, 210-pound primary First Basemen starts in a straight up and down, neutral setup. He has good weight shift through the zone which helps him find the barrel. Hands are very confident. A 89 mph exit velocity was recorded. 

Defensively, Hall displayed a solid glove which he shows a lot of confidence in. He moves his feet efficiently and gets around the baseball. A 76 mph infield velocity was recorded.  

Leewood Molessa, Williamstown, Class of 2021

Offensively, the 6-foot-2, 240-pound primary First Baseman starts in a athletic, compact stance with his front knee turned in. He displayed a predominantly pull side approach, and found the barrel more times than not with loud contact. His hand work well within his swing.  A 88 mph exit velocity was recorded. On this day, a 7.81-laser timed 60 was also recorded.

Defensively, Molessa demonstrated solid footwork around the bag with good athleticism. A 74 mph positional velocity was recorded. 

Mason Thompson, Brooke, Class of 2022

Offensively, the 6-foot-1, 245-pound primary First Baseman starts in a athletic, open stance. Utilizes a moderate leg kick and drives the ball well. Hands work efficiently inside of his body. A 85 mph exit velocity was recorded. 

Defensively, Thompson stays in an athletic position while fielding and receives the ball out front. A 71 mph positional velocity was recorded. 

 

Cameron Musgrave, University, Class of 2021

Offensively, the 5-foot-11, 230-pound primary First Basemen initiates his swing out of a closed off, athletic stance. He distributes his weight well from front to back in his swing. His smooth hands help him create good bat speed and a 87 mph velocity was recorded off of the tee. He also ran a 7.76-laser timed sixty.

Defensively, Musgrave fields the ball in the middle of his body and out front in an athletic position. Footwork is not an issue as he handles himself well around the bag. A 69 mph velocity across the diamond was recorded.
