2019 Preseason All-State Showcase Analysis: Third Basemen

The 2019 Preseason All-State Showcase took place February 24th at Pro Performance RX in Morgantown, WV. Today we continue a series of articles analyzing the prospects in attendance with a look at the  third basemen that participated.

Cullen Horowicz, Jefferson, Class of 2021

Cullen HorowiczDefensively, the 6-foot-4, 215-pound athlete works from his feet up. He displayed soft, confident hands that work extremely well within his body. A event best, 88 mph velocity across the diamond was recorded. He moves his feet well and gets his momentum moving towards his target with relative ease.

Offensively, Horowicz initiates his swing from a neutral athletic position. He displayed good balance and physical strength with considerable power. His hands are loose and in rhythm with his body. A 91 mph exit velocity off the tee was recorded, up from 86 at his last event in November.  

Mason Lantz, Jefferson, Class of 2020

Defensively, Lantz displayed a solid glove and soft hands. He moves his feet well while gaining ground to throw towards his target. His transfer is smooth and displayed a 76 mph velocity across the infield. 

Offensively, his athletic frame shows potential to continue to add mass and flexibility. He initiates his swing from a athletic, open stance. Lantz displayed loose, free hands that created solid bat speed. A 84 mph exit velocity was registered.

Aidan Johnson, George Washington, Class of 2019

Aidan JohnsonOffensively, the well-built Johnson displayed an advanced skill set from the right side of the batters box. He starts in a controlled, mostly straight up and down stance and uses a leg lift as a timing mechanism. Shows the ability to lift and drive the ball well. A event best, 96 mph exit velocity was recorded. A 7.15-laser timed 60 was recorded.

Defensively, Johnson showed overall control of his body. Utilizing a solid upper body to keep balls in the dirt in front of him, he rarely lets balls get outside of his body. A 74 mph velocity out of the crouch was recorded, along with a 2.00-2.03 pop time. He also worked out at 3B, displaying solid footwork and balance playing from his feet up. A 82 mph positional velocity was recorded. Johnson is the best overall uncommitted prospect left in the 2019 Class in West Virginia. 

Josh Cline, Oak Glen, Class of 2019

Josh ClineOffensively, the 6-foot, 180-pound primary Third Baseman starts in a neutral setup. Big, strong body kid who displayed a loud round on this day. Consistently found the  barrel with loud contact. Hands work extremely well and there is serious torque generated through his legs and hips. A 92 mph exit velocity was recorded.

Defensively, Cline plays through his feet. He does display a longer throwing motion and would benefit greatly from shortening his motion. Arm is adequate at 80 mph across the diamond. A 7.27-laser timed 60 was recorded. 

Evan Juniper, Huntington, Class of 2020

Evan JuniperOffensively, the 6-foot, 215-pound primary Third Basemen starts in a open, neutral setup with his hands near his chest. His hands work well within his body and he doesn't seem to get outside of that. He displayed some pull side pop from the left side of the box. A 84 mph exit velocity was recorded. A 7.59-laser timed 60 was also recorded.

Defensively, Juniper displayed confident, strong hands and the ability to make accurate throws from the hot corner. He could still benefit from creating better angles on his throws, but there was some improvement since his last event. 

Devon Neal, Morgantown, Class of 2019

Devon NealOffensively, the 6-foot-4, 280-pound primary Third Baseman starts in a spread, open stance. He displayed a line drive swing with the ability to drive the ball to his pull side. His hands move freely, and are in sync with his body. Creates solid torque and explosion through his midsection. A 87 mph exit velocity was recorded. On this day, a 7.78-laser timed 60 was recorded.

Defensively, Neal showed solid footwork and release point. A 76 mph velocity across the diamond was recorded. He displayed good footwork for his size. Also made strong, accurate throws to first base.

Lane Jordan, Oak Hill, Class of 2020

Lane JordanOffensively, the 6-foot-1, 215-pound primary Third Basemen initiates his swing from an open, athletic stance. He displays a leg kick as a timing mechanism to stay on time through the zone. His hands and body work very well together and allows him to drive the ball consistently. A 82 mph exit velocity was recorded.

Defensively, Jordan displays confident hands and feet at third base. He never gets outside of his body and plays from his feet up. A 74 mph positional velocity was recorded, up from 68 mph at his last event.

Dustin Corley, Parkersburg South, Class of 2021

Dustin CorleyOffensively, the 5-foot-10, 185-pound primary Third Basemen initiates his swing out of a spread, open stance with his hands set neutral. He generates good torque and pop through the use of his lower body and torso. A 80 mph bat exit velocity of registered, up from 79 mph at his last event. This spring, Corley will be a player to watch with the way he swings the bat. 

Defensively, Corley moves his feet and has supreme confidence in his hands. He gains ground well and continues to move his feet towards his target. A 71 mph positional velocity was recorded, up from 67 mph at his last event. 

Morgan Little, Keyser, Class of 2020

Morgan LittleOffensively, the 6-foot-2, 195-pound primary Third Basemen starts in a open, controlled stance with his hands out from his body. He displayed a quick, compact stroke from the left side of the plate. He showed the ability to drive the ball mostly to his pull side with loud contact. A 75 mph exit velocity was recorded. A 8.11-laser timed 60 was recorded on this day.

Defensively, Little displayed adequate hands. He plays under control from his feet up through the ball. He displayed confident, trusting hands. A 66 mph positional velocity was recorded.
