On Saturday, October 21, players from all over the Commonwealth joined our scouting staff at James Madison University for the 2017 Fall Review West. All four current high school classes were represented with the bulk of the players being from the 2019 class. Here are some quick notes on the event, look for full analysis in the coming weeks:
-Loudoun Valley 2019 lefty John Byram IV sat in the upper 70s and touched 81. He showed some feel for a curveball and change-up that have a chance to give him a good three-pitch mix.
-Miller School 2019 outfielder Jack Carey has an imposing projectable frame and showed some power potential from the left side and a strong arm from the outfield. Carey showed nice athelticism for his 6-foot-5, 250-pound frame. His size and arm strength would make him intriguing to see pitch.
-Highland 2019 two-way player Eddie Gimbel had a good all-around day. He showed some arm strength in the outfield and had the fastest home to first time. On the mound he showed the ability to sit in the high 70s and touch 80 while spinning an effective breaking ball.
-Loudoun Valley 2019 two-way player Michael Grupe may have had the best all-around day. Grupe showed some arm strength and clean actions in the field, there is some strength to his swing as well. On the mound, he sat 87-88 with pretty normal effort, and showed some feel for his secondary pitches.
-Loudon Valley 2019 shortstop Jonathan Sedmak showed athletic actions and a good swing with some power potential.
-Walsingham Academy 2019 third baseman Zach Stanko showed some arm strength and good actions at third. At the plate, he was short to the ball with some strength and bat speed, demonstrating some power potential.
-Jefferson (WV) 2019 righty Jordan Trunnell threw from a lower slot and had a lot of movement on his pitches. Very lanky frame that is projectable, his fastball was 79-81.
-Dominion 2019 lefty Dylan Weber worked at 81-83 and showed good feel and command of all three of his pitches with easy effort and looks to ahve more in the tank with his quick arm.
