Jacob Miller-Bopp RHP Walsingham 2022
Strong, athletic body frame. Quick side step delivery with strong leg drive down the mound. Fierce competitor on the bump with athleticism and a short arm arm action from a three-quarter arm slot. Three-pitch mix with true command of all three. Fastball had slight arm side run that played both sides of the plate at 82-85 mph, mostly sitting 84-85 mph. Curveball had 12/6 shape at 66-69 mph with a present swing and miss slider at 71-73 mph. Stays short to the ball at the plate with quick hands and fast bat speed through the zone. Solid extension through the zone and past contact with a smooth gap-to-gap line drive approach and doubles power.
Alex McCoy RHP Mt. Carmel 2020 (Maryland Eastern Shore)
Projectable athletic frame with present strength. Controlled delivery and gets down the mound with good extension and lands closed. Arm action is full and throws from an over the top slot. Fastball displayed a consistent cut and had a bigger range at 77-84. In his first inning the velo was down around 77-81, but McCoy seemed to get stronger as his outing went. Flashed a few 86’s in his second and third innings of work. Breaking ball was 72-73 mph and changeup was 74-76 mph. Is a strong physical athlete and as he continues to polish the mechanics McCoy could see another nice velo jump down the road.
Brian Curley RHP Trinity Episcopal 2022
Athletic frame and delivery working with intent. Short arm circle with a very quick arm from a three-quarter arm slot. Fastball sat 84-86 mph and touched 87 a few times. The breaking ball was tight and hard with a power curve look and feel at 72-74 mph. Really like the athleticism in the delivery and the quickness of the arm with the breaking ball having a chance to be a legitimate secondary pitch.
Ethan Gibson SS/RHP Abingdon 2023 (Virginia Tech)
Athletic makeup with high end actions all over the field. On the mound Gibson was 84-87 and pumped strikes to both sides of the plate. The breaking ball was 69-72 mph with 12/6 shape and depth. The breaking ball offers a chance to be a solid swing and miss pitch. Changeup was 74-75 mph. In the infield the actions are fluid and obvious that he has a chance to stay on the left side. Throws from multiple slots and multiple body positions with ease and arm strength is evident.
Braden Hamilton RHP Mountain View 2022
Hamilton has an athletic frame with positional versatility. On the mound he pounds the strike zone with two pitches. Fastball had distinct arm side run at 77-80 mph and touched 81 a few times. Curveball was 64-66 mph with above average feel for the zone. Have seen Hamilton twice over the past few weeks and he has displayed consistency on the mound and a knack for inducing early weak contact and forcing hitters to get themselves out.
Joseph Fredericks LHP Atlantic Shores Christian 2023
Fredericks was one of the more impressive younger arms at the tournament. Strong lower half with repeatable delivery and quick arm from three-quarter slot. Fastball sat 82-85 with more 84-85. Was not afraid to work in on right handed hitters. Breaking ball showed true swing and miss potential with a bigger 1/7 shape and depth. The breaking ball sat 69-72 and flashed ability to back foot right handed hitters. Changeup was 72-73 mph with arm speed and some late fade. Going to be an arm to watch moving forward.
Juice Tobin SS Mills Godwin 2022
Athletic frame with a strong lower half and well put together. Rotates well and works against a firm front side at the plate. Hands are short to contact and gets on plane well. Has doubles power at the plate with a gap to gap approach. On the defensive side Tobin moves well laterally and has solid actions. Long term he will need to add arm strength if he is going to stay on the left side.
Griffin O’Ferrall SS/2B St. Christopher’s 2021 (UVA)
Athletic makeup with high end tools. O’Ferrall is coming back from an injury so is playing a little out of position right now, but the actions are obvious. Feet work well around the bag, quick pivot, and ability to throw from multiple slots. At the plate hits from an athletic stance with stride forward and tends to slide into the swing a bit, but is uber athletic with advanced hand-eye coordination. Carry off the bat in the gaps and displays a high end run tool on the bases. O’Ferrall is fun to watch and should only get better as he continues to grow and add strength.
Alex Naylor SS North Davidson (NC) 2023
Physical makeup with athleticism. Open athletic stance at the plate, step to stride, and lands on line. Hands have minimal load and a level path to contact. Solid balance and hits against a firm front side rotating the lower half with aggression. Carry off the bat to the pull side gap and has an advanced feel for the barrel for his age. Defensively Naylor has solid actions in the infield and the arm strength plays from the left side. May move long term to 3B and is athletic enough to play multiple positions in the outfield. Will be a very intriguing athlete to watch grow.
Nate Martin OF Nansemond-Suffolk 2023
Square athletic stance at the plate with weight distributed evenly in the lower half. Step to stride and hands make quick direct load back before firing to the ball with a slightly uphill path. Martin is aggressive early in the count with some pull side tendency. Displays some bat speed that can produce doubles power with a little extra juice there as he adds strength to the frame.
Collin Carroll RHP Tidewater Academy 2023
Projectable frame at 6-foot-3 with more physical maturation and growth in the future. Repeatable normal effort delivery with high balance point and gathered over the rubber. Hips and shoulders are slightly uphill moving down the mound landing on line. Hands break clean to a shorter arm circle throwing from a high three-quarter arm slot. Made two appearances, one was only one inning. In the one innings outing Carroll was 83-85 and touched 86. Fastball has some carry through the zone. Breaking ball was 69-72 mph with above average feel. Intriguing young arm with more in the tank long term.
Grant Thomas SS/RHP Turner Ashby 2021
Athletic makeup standing 5-foot-11. On the mound had a short quick arm from a three-quarter arm slot. Fastball had some life out of the hand at 81-85 mph and it was mostly 83-85. Threw a 66-69 mph curveball with late depth and 11/5 shape. Possessed present arm speed with late fade on a 78-79 mph changeup. Athletic defender up the middle with lateral range and accurate arm across.
Jack Baldridge 1B Bishop Ireton 2021
Strong 6-2 frame with athleticism. Quiet fluid approach at the plate with physicality. Keeps the hands inside and head behind the barrel at contact. Hits against a firm front side and gap to gap power potential in the swing. Has the strength to be a middle of the order type of bat at the next level. Is a big target at first base and works well around the bag.
Antonio Ignacio SS/2B TC Williams 2021
Athletic 6-foot frame with barrel awareness and doubles power at the plate. Small pickup and put down to stride, hands load back to slight arm bar, and hits against a firm front side. Attacks contact out front and has some juice to the pull side. Really liked his aggressiveness at the plate.
