Nuckols, a VCU commit, came on to close it out versus Cape Henry. Struggled with command early in the inning, but settled in nicely to close it out. Mainly struggled with fastball control to the first few hitters, but it seemed as though establishing feel for the secondary almost settled the fastball in as well. The fastball was 84-87 and touched 88 twice, including the final pitch for a strikeout was 88. The slider was tight in shape at 75-76. While it did not have a ton of depth, the movement was late and sharp and a nice change of pace that kept hitters off balance.

Nuckols is 6-4 with an athletic frame that has strength present and some projection left to it. He hits from the left side from a slightly open tall relaxed stance, low leg kick stride on line, loads down. Hips rotate completely and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, quick to the ball, uphill swing path, very strong at contact with extension through the ball, showed a good approach using the whole field, swing has some natural loft built in, power present to all fields, exit velocity was 93. On the mound, he throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot, short loose quick arm action and normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are level and closed, lands closed with an athletic finish. Fastball was 82-86, touching 87, with some late hard armside run that also gets some depth down in the zone. Curveball had good armspeed and was 68-70 with sharp 11/5 break to it.
