CBA Sacramento Tryout Notes

In what should be the first of many future tryouts we attend and scout, on November 11th we were at the CBA Sacramento tryout to scout and evaluate nearly 40 players in attendance. The tryout had over 100 player in attendance, but 38 of them upgraded their tryout to also include a PBR evaluation, complete with scouting reports, stats, headshot for their profile, and video.

Here are a dozen players who caught our eye, some of whom are not yet in high school but look to have bright futures in the game. We do not know which players were selected for the various teams.

Damian Martinez C / 3B / Antelope HS / 2022

Possesses good catch/throw/receive talent/skill, strong young man, posted 87 mph exit velocity, 72 mph throw at catcher & ow pop time of 2.15. Also 74 mph INF throw

Jerame Davis SS / RHP / Inderkum HS / 2022

Talented & athletic 2-way player, pitching talent is a bit more polished, FB up to 77 w/ angle, some feel of CB & CHG. Posted 81 mph exit velocity & 72 mph throw from SS

Preston Fondren C / 3B / Granite Bay HS / 2022

Fondren stood out among catchers, body is young but glimpse of future w/78 mph exit velocity (efficient hand path) and 72 mph throw at catcher, low pop time of 2.12

Logan McIntyre RHP / 3B / Inderkum HS / 2021

Arm works easy, good mound presence, FB feel to both sides w/some sink, late 11/5 CB w/tight spin, CHG comes out easy. 87 mph exit velocity & 75 mph infield throw

Jake McKowen RHP / 1B / 2024

Standout on the mound, long 5'11" 130-lbs, easy loose arm, FB up to 74 mph, most impressive was breaking ball w/late 2-plane break. 72 mph exit, 63 mph INF throw

Kenny Baltz 3B / RHP / Bear River HS / 2022

Good looking hitter w/balance & good barrel through the zone. 80 mph exit velocity & 75 mph INF throw, also solid on mound w/tight CB & CHG feel, FB up to 75 mph

Lex Dillon C / RHP / Whitney HS / 2021

Long/lanky w/wiry strength & favorable projection, fast hands, powerful, 84 mph exit velocity, 70 mph catcher throw, 2.05 pop, good receiver, FB 80 mph, has CHG feel

Keith Shelton C / 3B / Del Oro HS / 2022

Strong catcher w/talents that play for the position, 72 mph throw w/low pop time of 2.15, explosive swing, efficient hands, loud contact off bat, 79 mph exit velocity

Xavier Wong LHP / OF / 2023

Intriguing left-hander, clean arm action, feel of FB to both sides of plate, finishes pitches well w/extension, spun CB well w/good feel, big fade on CHG, he's got a shot

Michael Nutter OF / 1B / Lincoln HS / 2021

Long/lean w/some present strength, L/L w/bat talent that stood out, leverage in the swing, fast hands, 85 mph exit velocity & 73 mph OF throw, lots of good projection

Xavier Ramirez C / McClatchy HS / 2020

Strength showed up in BP round w/power potential, 80 mph exit velocity would be higher w/more linear barrel through contact, 70 mph catcher throw w/low pop of 2.10

Ryan Weeks OF / Cosumnes Oaks HS / 2020

BP round was among the best we saw, simple approach w/ability to drive ball, 83 mph exit velocity happens easy for him, 78 mph OF throw, tracked on a line to 3B bag
