OUTLOOK:
Rebuilding in the West Catholic Athletic League doesn’t happen as teams reload with young talent. That’s going to be the case for the Archbishop Mitty Monarch with a deep returning core and a talented group of Juniors coming up. Mitty expects to make another deep run like they made in 2019 with another strong 2020 season. When you have the depth of returns like the Monarchs do including one of the best players in the State of California in 20 INF/OF Nick Yorke, there’s a lot to like about the lineup for the 2020 season. Pitching depth will also be strong with some youth arms stepping in prepared for the heavy hitting West Catholic League. For Mitty to make their run, overall health will be the biggest question as some of their top players are coming off knicks from the Summer/Fall season. Coach Yocke has consistently gotten the most out of the Monarchs and his ability to keep a culture of success is known and runs through this program. If Coach Yocke can put the pieces into the right spots, the Monarchs should be seeing themselves play in San Jose late in May again in 2020.
TOP RETURNING PLAYERS:
20 INF/OF Nick Yorke - Arizona commit.
One of the best players in the State who will have MLB Draft eyes on him all season. Plus batspeed able to drive the ball all over the field with power. Plus knowledge of the game and personality that thrives in competition. Defense fits at multiple positions; only question is how his arm has recovered after a long summer showcase.
20 OF/RHP Arthur Soto - Cal State Monterey Bay commit
Big arm and range in the OF. Batspeed to do damage to gaps and chance to be a run producer in the lower/middle of the lineup. Could be a late inning option with his strong arm and long Curveball.
20 C Andrew Vo
Solid catch and throw skills with ability to help his pitchers and keep runners from taking bases. Solid bat to ball skills as well and can run into some gap damage.
20 RHP Trevor Rogers
Long build Righty could be a key contributor on the hill; has battled some health issues over past season.
20 3B/1B/OF Rohan Sanganeria
Physical, max effort player who fits the corners with arm strength and bat that should be relied on after finding spots in lower portion in 2019.
21 RHP Jake Geis - Orego Commit
Live armed righty has been a rotation mainstay for two seasons and will be counted on in 2020. Stuff to be a frontline starter.
21 OF Reymello Murphy
Two-sport athlete who showed he can be a next level defender in the middle of the OF during 2019. Bat shows speed and is able to spray balls through the middle of the field as leadoff type of player. One for coaches to follow during 2020.
21 INF/OF Dominic Giuffre
Strong infielder who had the defensive chops to fit at multiple positions. Bat-to-ball skills for hitting high atop lineup and more strength in the frame for extra base hits.
21 INF/RHP Matthew Halbach
Two-way player who can fit in around the field. Stuff on the mound could have him working as one of the starters this Spring.
THE FUTURE:
22 INF Zach Yorke
Started at 2B as a Freshman and hit well in different locations of the lineup. Bat to ball skills are solid and consistent. Could probably play multiple defensive positions in INF or corner OF for 2020.
