7/12/19

Area Code Games Underclass tryout - Uncommitted; sturdy frame with life in his body, short arm action and works with some effort with overhand slot, arm works but in a tryout scenario he showed as a raw thrower, displayed a lack of feel, big 11/6 curveball with slow rolling action, there is plenty of ability to keep him on radar and see how it all unfolds but there is considerable work to do.

3/23/19

At Los Gatos - Uncommitted. Has made big jumps both physically and with his skills from starting on Varsity as a Freshman. XL Frame that is long with width in his shoulders and length in limbs; very projectable body that is starting to firm up with more room still available in the frame. Full over head delivery with side step before showing strong posture at balance point. Back leg starts to collapse before driving down the hill having shoulders tilt upwards with high glove side showing full turn of glove arm adding some deception; glove arm can continue to clean up and add more tuck instead of allowing arm to be passive. Delivery isn’t the smoothest and feels very pieced together; when he’s got better rhythm the body works together with the arm creating excellent angle and allows the very quick arm to work best. Arm has some length out of glove before getting to 3/4 release finishing over stiff front leg. FB 84-87 T88 MPH showed late life at the plate with flashes of good angle; when not having angle pitch was flat being able to get away with mistakes using velocity. FB ticked down to 82-84 when in stretch as there was less load over the back hip. CB 68-74 MPH with tight spin showing short depth with some feel of pitch into and through the zone. Was able to use on both sides of the plate and in different counts but most often used when ahead in the count. Flashed above average actions but inconsistent and will need to continue to develop feel of the pitch. CHG 75-80 MPH was straight and had limited depth; used more as a show pitch and didn’t have much feel for the pitch. Will need to focus on feel to give him a 3rd pitch he can use to keep hitters off FB. Geis is a very projectable frame with a live arm; if he can smooth out the delivery and continue to improve his athleticism the ceiling is very high with a strong possibility of reaching it.

3/31/18

Uncommitted. 6-foot-2, 150-pound frame; long, lean and athletic build with most of size coming from legs/torso and long wingspan. Very projectable build with strong body control for young age and size while showing promising arm speed and pitch ability. 4 IP, 4 H, 1 BB, 1 R, 5K outing. Stretch only. High 3/4 arm action from controlled, simple lift and drive delivery. High front knee matched with high front elbow adds deception in look. Very loose arm with life gets out of glove cleanly early; strong arm speed for age. FB showed angle to glove side from generally straight pitch. Worked both sides of plate. Flashes of dominance with pitch. CB 11-4 break with slurve look; loose w/ 2 level depth in late break. Very projectable pitch that flashed above average action when getting 3/4 snap and working pitch middle/down to start; times in start where pitch started high breaking into zone and staying up. Strong control of both pitches but will need to work on commanding both pitches as he develops. Command was off when getting over-rotational with front shoulder and tendency to pull off hill glove side, missing that way. Loved the pre-game routine I saw from him with usage of weighted balls, J-Band and stretching out arm using long toss; very mature approach for a young pitcher. Competitor on mound showing control of emotions and dedication to craft. Would not be surprised to see colleges start to pursue him more this summer; very high ceiling/floor combination.
