The Virginia Scout Blog provides insider information and scouting notes from the PBR Staff. This running blog will feature information on underclass prospects, unsigned seniors, committed players, and draft prospects. We will provide a wide range of information, including player evaluations, velocity, pop times, home to first times, and more. Currently the VA/DC Scout Blog features insight on over 250 players we have had the opportunity to see in 2016. This running blog is continuously updated throughout the year as we continue to cover the commonwealth and DC to create more awareness of the players in the area.

9.29.16 - SABB

Brandon Austin OF/ CIF Battlefield 2017
Uncommitted. Short swing at the plate with average bat speed. Showed nice balance at the plate during BP. Short arm action in the field with average carry on throws.

Logan Barker RHP/INF  Colonial Forge 2017
Recently de-committed and back on market. Over-the-top arm action with some head clearance. Clean arm swing. Strong mature body type that has limited projection.  Tended to pull off his extension. Fastball sat 85-87.  Slider 76-77 with short, darting action.  Slider lacked swing and miss action.

Thomas Francisco 1B Abingdon 2018
ECU commit. Left handed hitter with power potential. Short swing that got uphill and wanted to lift baseball during BP. Strong, simple swing, nice balance throughout. Moved feet well around the bag at first. With sound actions. Shorter arm action throwing across.

Noah Goins 1B Kettle Run 2017
Uncommitted. Loose hands at the plate and took nice round of BP showing a free swing and some life at the plate. Direct path to the ball at the plate and swung it well. Athletic around the bag at first. Low ¾ slot throwing from first.

Don Goodes Greenbriar Christian 2018
Uncommitted. Balanced set up at the plate. Level swing path and peppered ball up middle. Simple set up at plate and hand work well with good bat speed. Moves well in the outfield and has some life on throws. Ran a 7.00 60-yard dash.

Adam Hackenberg C Miller School 2018
Clemson commit. Big power potential with already pull side pop. Hands worked well at the plate and strong kid with mature body already in junior year of high school. Created fast bat speed at plate. Quick feet with clean exchange behind the plate. Pop time consistently in the 1.95-2.01 range during workout. Nice prospect with projection.

Jake Haney RHP Covenant 2017
William and Mary commit. Durable pitchers frame. Compact, controlled delivery with nice tempo. Can get some more usage of his lower half combined with a clean and quick arm action. Sat 85-87 on the day topping out at 88mph. Breaking ball was 71-74 with close to 12/6 shape on the pitch.

Kyle Horton OF Liberty Christian 2018
Quick athletic outfielder. Has quick hands at the plate with a shorter swing path and fast bat speed. Uses field well spreading the ball around the field with line drive ability. Quick and confident first step with shorter arm action and good carry on throws from the outfield. Ran a 6.76 60-yard dash.

Josh Jones 3B Randolph Henry 2017
James Madison commit. Projectable strong frame. Balanced set up at the plate with good bat speed and shorter swing path. Moved very well at third with a quick and confident first step. Excellent hands defensively and showed quick transfer and balanced on a slow roller making an accurate throw on time.

Ryan Kennedy LHP North Stafford 2017
Kennesaw State commit. Projectable frame at 6-foot, 175-pounds. Sat 84-86 on the day with a 70-72 mph breaking ball. Repeatable delivery and more in tank. Nice tempo in controlled delivery with free arm action.

Will Lopez LHP Hanover  2018
Uncommitted. Throws from a high ¾ slot, almost over the top. Controlled delivery with nice lower half usage. Fastball has cut action on the pitch sitting 80-82 topping out at 83 mph. Breaking ball has 1/7 action at 70-72 mph. Knows how to pitch and commanded zone well.

Michael Ludowig OF Briar Woods 2017
Wake Forest commit. Athletic frame with a ton of athleticism. Quick hands at the plate and stayed inside the ball well during BP. Shows some power potential at the plate. Quick twitch athlete that was consistently in the 4.2 range on home to first and got as low as 4.12. Loose arm action from the outfield with carry on throws. Got on the mound and used that frame and loose arm action to get up to 88 on the mound sitting 87 mph.

Antonio Menendez OF/RHP Herndon 2017
Wake Forest commit. Long projectable frame. Short swing path in a tall open set up. Hands create some bat speed at the plate. Should continue to get stronger and could project some power at plate… Under-shooter (submarine) with loose, quick hand.  Showed an ability to raise the slot to high-3/4 vs. LHH, occasionally.  Flashed fastball and curveball from the raised slot.  From underneath, sat 82-85 and touched 86 with arm-side sink.  Slider 71-73 with sweeping action. Threw one change at 73. 

Tanner Morris SS Miller School 2017
Virginia commit. High ceiling athlete with ton of projection and will be one to keep an eye on in June. Simple set up at the plate with free hands that get direct to the baseball. Creates fast bat speed with a smooth swing. Nice balance throughout. Smooth actions in the field. May project to a corner infield spot as he fills frame. Longer, loose arm action with carry on throws.  Ran a 7.08 60-yard dash.

Hunter Perdue RHP Grassfield 2017
Virginia commit. Strong projectable and durable frame. Controlled delivery with an exaggerated hip load. Gets nice lower half involvement with fast arm speed and easy effort. Repeats delivery very well with nice body control. Fastball was 88-90 and topped out at 91 mph with late life on the fastball. Breaking ball was 73-74 mph with 11/5 shape and nice depth on the pitch.

Nathan Perry C Bassett 2017
High Point commit. Power presence at the plate with strength. Strong hands wanting to elevate the baseball and drive it. Showed that in his batting practice taking the ball out of the yard on numerous swings. Clean exchange behind the plate and had workout pops of 2.14-2.16. In game pop time at 2.24.

Rojo Prarie OF Lake Braddock 2018
Uncommitted. Quick hands at the plat with a shorter swing path. Smooth effort in swing some power potential. Shows some balance. Throws had some carry from the outfield. Ran a 7.42

Cristian Sanchez RHP Paul VI 2018
Alabama commit. Long lanky projectable 6-foot-2 frame with room to add more. Has a controlled delivery with good tempo. Has a sound arm action throwing from a high ¾ slot. Creates fast arm speed and ball jumps out of his hand to the hitter. Fastball sat 87-88 touching 89 on the day. Breaking ball was 72-75 with fastball arm speed. High ceiling arm and should only continue to develop and get stronger.

Will Schroeder SS/RHP Loudon County 2018
UNC commit. Longer uphill swing path looking to elevate the baseball. Created quick bat speed and kept hands in good position throughout swing. Short quick arm action from the infield. Good carry on throws across the diamond. Ran a 6.69 60-yard dash.

Toma Shigaki-Than RHP Oakton  2017
Duke commit. Lanky frame with projection and more in tank. Controlled delivery with slight pause after rocker. Sat 84-86 on the day with a 75-76 breaking ball with late action and sharpness with fastball arm speed. Showed change at 78 mph and fastball arm speed. Good job repeating delivery.

Khie Simms OF North Chesterfield 2017
Old Dominion commit. Smaller frame with a simple tall set up at the plate. Has a short swing path with fast bat speed. Simple swing and consistently got barrel on the ball. Quick hands with nice rhythm. Shorter arm action with carry on throws from the outfield. Ran a 7.19 60-yard dash.

Eugene Snyder RHP Spotsylvania 2018
Slight pause in delivery, shorter sound arm action, could get more of his lower half involved. Falls slightly toward first in finish. Sat 8-84 on the day with a 71-74 mph breaking ball that had short break. Lanky frame with room to add on.

Jacob Steinberg 3B/RHP St. John’s College (DC) 2018
Miami commit. Showed nice balanced at the plate with strong hands. Whipped barrel through zone during batting practice. Aggressive swings with pull side power potential at plate. Life on throws and sound actions from both infield and outfield. Athletic...On the mound, he has a slight stab after hand separation then goes into an athletic arm action with fast arm speed. Nice pace throughout delivery. Great lower half involvement and backside drive. Sat 86-89 on the day in his inning of work. Fastball showed later life at times. Breaking ball was 72-75 with 11/5 shape and later break and nice depth and tight rotation.

Will Wagner SS/2B Miller School 2018
Liberty commit. Projectable frame with room to grow and add more. Left handed hitter at the plate with quick hands and some bat speed. Got around ball at times during BP but when direct showed pop and peppered the gaps.  Clean hands in the field with some life on throws across the diamond.

Ethan Williams C/RHP Cosby 2018
Uncommitted. Has a little longer swing path at the plate with some bat speed. Behind the plate showed nice arm strength getting as low as a 1.96 in between innings…Intriguing prospect on the mound. Slight pause in delivery while gathering momentum. Has a shorter arm action and quick arm speed. Has some lower half usage. Fastball sat 84-87 with later life on the pitch. Showed a breaking ball at 75 mph. but sat mainly fastball.

Scouting the VHSL 4A State Tournament (June 10 and 11, 2016)

Nolan Caler, OF, Hanover, 2017
Caler has an athletic frame and has done a good job with the conversion to outfield, where he gets good breaks and has a quick release with an accurate arm. At the plate he hits from the right side and has a gap to gap approach with a short, line drive stroke. He ran a 4.43 on an infield single and he can handle the bat well.

Wesley Clarke, C, Liberty Christian, 2018
Clarke has an athletic frame and hits from the right side. He has a short swing and good hips generating good bat speed. He primarily had a gap to gap approach with easy doubles power to either gap and home run power to his pull side. Behind the plate, short loose arm action and an above average arm with a positional velocity of 78. Threw a 1.97 and 2.03 game pop, and all between-inning pops were between 2.00 and 2.09. Athletic behind the plate and slides well.

Richard De La Cruz, OF, Liberty Christian, 2016 (Radford)
De La Cruz is a switch hitter with an athletic frame and similar swings from both sides and easy gap power. He uses the whole field well but works primarily gap to gap with easy doubles power. He is quick and gets a good first step in the outfield. He can handle the bat as well.

Jack Dragum, SS/RHP, Hanover, 2018 (Virginia)
Dragum has a lanky frame and hits from the right side. He has a quick bat and a line drive stroke. He primarily works gap to gap but turned on one ball on the weekend with some authority. On the mound, he throws from a high three-quarters arm slot and sat 86-87, touching 89. Showed a change-up at 76 and curveball that was 70-71.

Brenton Doyle, OF, Kettle Run, 2016 (VMI)
Doyle is tall and has a projectable frame. He covers a lot of ground in the outfield and has a good release and a strong arm. At the plate, he has a quick, short swing and showed a good approach, using the entire field. He is fast, running 4.06 from the right side on a grounder to short.

John Gregory, 1B/LHP, Hanover, 2016 (Longwood)
Gregory has a lanky frame. On the mound he throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a lot of effort. His fastball was 84-86 in a short relief appearance and he threw a sharp 2/8 curveball that was 69-71. At the plate, he hits from the left side and showed a good approach in the first game, using the whole field. He had more of a pull approach in the second game. He has a short stroke and above average bat speed. Line drive swing with gap power.

Camden Grimes, 3B, Hanover, 2018
Grimes has an athletic frame with a strong lower half. At third base he has a strong arm and a good first step, arm action is short and loose. At the plate, he hits from the right side with good bat speed and a lot of power potential. Mostly a pull approach with gap power and potential for more. Ran a 4.29 on an infield single.

Zack Hess, RHP, Liberty Christian, 2016 (Louisiana State)
Hess’s fastball sat 89-91, touching 92. He showed a two-seamer that was 87. His hard 10/4 slider was 77-82. He didn’t have his best command and the strike zone was inconsistent, but he did a good job of not getting frustrated and competing.

Pearce Howard, 1B/RHP, Liberty Christian, 2017
Hits from the left side with above average batspeed and a smooth stroke. Consistently barreled the ball, primarily working to his pull side but showed the ability to go the other way as well.

Kent Klyman, LHP, Jamestown, 2016 (NC State)
Klyman has a lanky frame and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. Long, loose arm action that is lightning quick. Shoulders are level and closed, square landing with an athletic finish. Fastball had late run, was 86-88, touching 89 early in the game, sat 88-89 touching 90 in the fifth inning. Slowed his arm a bit on a fading change-up that was 76-80. Sharp, late 2/8 slider that was 73-76.

Evan Lowery, OF, Jamestown, 2016 (Navy)
Lowery hits from the left side and has some batspeed and pop, turning around Hess for a triple off of the right-centerfield fence. He is fast and gets good breaks in the outfield as well.

Grey Lyttle, RHP, Hanover, 2016 (High Point)
Lyttle has an athletic frame and a strong lower half. Throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. Shoulders are uphill and closed. Closed landing with fall off and recoil at finish. Fastball ran 84-87 touched 88. Good armspeed on change-up at 76. Slider had late, hard 10/4 break and ran 72-77.

Hayden Moore, RHP, Hanover, 2016 (VCU)
Moore has an athletic frame and throws from a three-quarters arm slot. Drop and drive delivery, short, quick arm action and some effort. Shoulders uphill and closed, very open landing. Fastball sat 86-87, touched 88 in a start on Saturday. In a short relief appearance on Friday it sat 87-89, touched 90. Change-up had run and was 73-74. Sharp 10/4 slider was 70-75.

Cayman Richardson, SS, Hanover, 2016 (Virginia)
Richardson has a lanky frame. He is very smooth at short, with clean actions and takes good angles on balls. He has soft hands and good quickness to go with a strong arm. At the plate, he hits from a slightly open stance with explosive hands and a fast bat. He worked gap to gap and has a line drive swing with doubles power. Ran a 4.34 on a groundout to short.

Austin Roach, RHP, Liberty Christian, 2018
Roach has tall, athletic frame. Throws from an over-the-top slot with a short arm action. Fastball has good plane and some run, sitting 80-83, touching 84. 11/5 slider that was 69-70 and a 12/6 curveball at 64.

Scouting the VHSL 3A State Tournament (June 10 and 11, 2016)

Trent Abernathy, OF/RHP, Turner Ashby, 2016 (Concord)
Abernathy throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. His shoulders are uphill and closed, closed landing with a fall off finish, crossfire delivery. Fastball sat 81-85, touching as high as 87 early in the game. Hard, late 10/4 slider was 73-76.

Hunter Campbell, RHP/3B, Rustburg, 2016
Campbell is an athletic righty that throws from a high three-quarters arm slot. His fastball sat 79-81, touching 82. His breaking ball was 68-69.

Drew Calohan, LHP/1B, Rustburg, 2016
Calohan throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. Some effort, quick, short arm action. Shoulders uphill and closed. Slightly closed landing with an athletic finish. Fastball has plane and late run, sitting 81-84 and touching 85. Change-up had good arm speed and run, sitting 74-75. Sharp 1/7 curveball ran 69-73. At the plate, hits from the left side with a pull approach. Above average bat speed and doubles power. Decent speed on the bases and a good baserunner.

Austin Gault, OF, Poquoson, 2018
Gault has an athletic frame and hits from the right side with an open, crouched stance. Loads into a slight wrap with a leg kick stride. Solid lower half and decent balance. Pull approach with above average bat speed, line drive swing. Has speed, getting up the line in 4.15.

Trey Hicks, SS/RHP, Poquoson, 2016 (Louisburg)
Hicks has an athletic frame with a stronger lower half. He has decent batspeed and a good approach, using the entire field with a short, line drive swing and doubles power between the gaps. At third base, he has a quick first step and an above average arm that is accurate. On the mound, his fastball has late run and sat 84-86, touching 87. His slider was 70-73.

Cole Jackson, SS/RHP, Poquoson, 2017
On the mound, Jackson throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. Long arm action with normal effort. Shoulders are closed and he lands closed with a crossfire delivery. His fastball had some run, sitting 76-78 and touching 80. His curveball had late 12/6 break and was 63-65. He has an athletic frame and hits from an upright athletic stance with above average batspeed. He has a gap-to-gap approach and a line drive swing.

RJ Payne, LHP/1B, William Monroe, 2017
Payne hits from the left side with an open stance and has some batspeed. He predominantly works with a pull approach but can use the entire field. He has easy doubles power between the gaps and to his pull side. On the mound, his fastball sat 77-79, touching 81. His change-up had run and was 70-72. His breaking ball was 66.
 

Scouting Liberty Christian at Kettle Run (June 7, 2016)

Zach Fuqua, RHP, Liberty Christian, 2016
Fuqua has a lanky, athletic frame. Throws from a low-three quarters arm slot. Short, stiff arm action that is quick. Fastball has heavy run, sits 82-85, touches 86. 11/5 curveball with gradual break, slows arm a bit, 65-68. 

Pearce Howard, OF/RHP, Liberty Christian, 2017
Howard has a tall, athletic frame. On the mound, Howard throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. Short arm action, shoulders closed and level. Square athletic finish. Fastball has run, sat 79-81. Threw two breaking balls, a sharp 12/6 curve that sat 71, and a hard sharp slider that was 74-75. Slider was very good. At the plate, hits from the left side and has batspeed, mostly a pull approach but can go the other way, works around the ball a bit with easy gap power and pull home run power in his future. 

Hayden Lilek, SS/RHP, Kettle Run, 2016
Lilek has an athletic frame and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot. Drop and drive delivery with a short, quick arm action. Fastball sat 81-83, touched 84. 12/6 curveball at 67. Short swing, line drive hitter, uses who field well. Decent speed.

Scouting Potomac at Mountain View (June 3, 2016)

Evan Antonellis, SS, Potomac, 2017
Antonellis has an athletic frame and hits from the right side. He has good bat speed and a pull approach with a good lower half. Line drive stroke with home run power. Has a good first step at shortstop and an above average arm that is accurate. Clean actions and exchange. 

Alex Burke, OF/RHP, Potomac, 2016 (St. Bonaventure)
Burke has an athletic frame and hits from the left side. He has above average batspeed and a pull approach with gap power to his pull side. In the outfield, he takes good routes and has a decent arm. On the mound, he throws from an over-the top slot with a drop and drive delivery. Short arm action that is quick with some effort. Shoulders are on line and uphill, landing is square with some fall off. Fastball had a lot of plane, sitting 84-85, touching as high as 87. Curveball with true 12/6 power break, running 71-76. 

Jon Caicedo, RHP, Potomac, 2016 (Mary Washington)
Caicedo is an athletic righty that throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. Shoulders are uphill and closed and he strides out online before swinging to open landing with a fall of finish. Fastball had plane and late run, sitting 81-83 and touching 85. Change-up had decent armspeed and sink, running 73-76. Curveball had sharp 11/5 break at 67-72.

Justin Pearson, LHP, Mountain View, 2017
Pearson is a lanky lefty that throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. Arm action is short and quick with some effort. Shoulders are uphill and closed, square landing with slight fall off. Fastball had angle and late run, sitting 81-84. Curveball was 72 with 1/7 break.

Scouting Chantilly at Battlefield (June 3, 2016)

James Beasley, RHP, Battlefield, 2016
Beasley is an athletic righty that can add a weight to his lankier frame. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery and normal effort. His fastball saw 81-83, touching 84 whenever he wanted it, with late run. He commanded the pitch well down in the zone, moving in and out with it. His curveball had sharp 11/5 action, running 66-68. 

Keagan McGinnis, RHP, Battlefield, 2016 (Virginia Tech)
McGinnis is a tall, projectable, lanky righthander that throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. Short arm action with a lightning quick arm, normal effot. Level shoulders that are closed, lands square and falls off as finishes. Fastball has big downward plane and late boring action, sat 88-91 and touched 92. Maintained full velocity from the stretch. Change-up was 79-81 with some sink. Curveball had late, power 11/5 action, running 77-80. He was pitching at the top of the zone most of the outing. 

Forrest Wagner, LHP, Chantilly, 2016 (Roanoke)
Mechanics are the same as in March. Fastball sat 79-82, touching 83 with late run. Threw a big sharp curveball that was 62-64 and a tight, late slider that was 73-75. Both had 2/8 break. Commanded all three pitches well and showed a high level of pitchability.

Scouting Halifax County at Mountain View (June 1, 2016)

Andrew Abbott, LHP, Halifax County, 2017 (Virginia)
Abbott is a lanky left that throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. His arm action is short and quick, throwing with normal effort. Shoulders are closed and slightly downhill, closed landing with a fall off finish, classic lefty crossfire. Hides ball well, lots of deception, fastball has good angle and slight run, sitting 85-86 early, touching 87, before settling in to 83-85 late in the game. Big, sharp 1/7 curveball running 67-71. Showed that ability to move both pitches in and out, up and down.

Dylan Hall, RHP, Mountain View, 2016 (Virginia Tech)
Same mechanics as earlier in the spring. Fastball sat 85-87 in the windup, touching 88, was 84-85 in the stretch with some late run. Held velocity well all game, still getting 87s and an 88 in the fifth inning. Change-up was 79-80 with decent armspeed. Slider had late, sharp 10/4 action, running 73-76. Showed a few cutters with some late bite at 82.

Drew Harlow, RHP, Halifax County, 2018
Harlow has a lankier athletic frame and throws from high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. Arm action is long and quick, generates velocity with normal effort. Shoulders are uphill and closed. Fastball had late run, sitting 83-84, touching 85.

Scouting Centreville at Battlefield (May 31, 2016)

Jake Agnos, LHP, Battlefield, 2016 (East Carolina)
Agnos’s mechanics are unchanged from earlier in the year and he still throws with a high effort delivery. His fastball sat 89-92 early, touching 93 once with plane and some late run. His velocity was still 88-89, touching 91 in the sixth inning, with a bit more movement. Curveball had its normal, hard, power 1/7 break, running 79-82. He was in the strike zone with both pitches. 

Carter Bach, LHP, Centreville, 2016 (Wake Forest)
Bach’s mechanics are unchanged from earlier in the year, generating his higher end velocity with some effort from a three-quarters arm slot. Fastball sat 85-88 early, touching 90 once. In the sixth inning, he was sitting 84-87, touching 88. Change-up had heavy sink and good armspeed at 80-81. Slider had sharp 10/4 break, running 74-76.

Scouting Jefferson Forest at Kettle Run (May 30, 2016)

Brenton Doyle, OF/RHP, Kettle Run, 2016 (VMI)
Doyle has a tall, athletic, projectable frame. He gets quick breaks in the outfield and takes good routes to the ball. He has a good arm, with a position velocity of 92. At the plate, he hits from the right side and has a pull approach with home run power. He is strong, and showed it with a home run that he gator armed and got a bit off the end of the bat, while still having enough power to put it out. On the mound, he has a drop and drive delivery and throws from a three-quarters arm slot. He has a quick arm and works with easy effort at the lower end of his velocity range, needs high effort to hit his top end. Fastball was 81-85, touched as high as 88 with heavy run. Sharp 11/5 curveball 66-68.

Noah Goins, 3B/RHP, Kettle Run, 2017
Goins is a big kid with a projectable athletic frame. On the mound, he throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a long, quick arm action, easy effort. Shoulders are uphill and closed. Fastball sat 85-87, touched 88. Velocity fell to 83-84 in the stretch. Slowed his arm for one change-up at 79. Other offspeed pitch was a knuckleball, 64-65. At the plate, he has a quick bat and is strong with power potential. Had an exit velocity of 97 on a groundout to short.

Will Merriken, LHP, Kettle Run, 2017
Merriken has an athletic frame and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. Short arm action with normal effort, shoulders are uphill and closed. Fastball has plane to it, sitting 76-78. Change-up has sinking action and he slowed his arm a bit. Curveball has gradual 1/7 break, 67-69. 

Zach Peek, RHP, Jefferson Forest, 2016 (Winthrop)
Peek is a lanky righty with a drop and drive delivery. Gabe Schilke, C, Colonial Forge, 2016 (Navy)
Schilke has a lanky athletic frame. Behind the plate he is a good receiver. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with short, loose arm action. Quick, clean release, position velocity of 81. Threw a 1.94 in game and was 2.04-2.06 between innings. At the plate, open stance with leg kick strike and smooth load back, good rhythm to his swing. Uses whole field, line drive swing with gap power.

Beach has a great frame, standing an athletic 6-3, 215. He hits from the left side from an upright athletic stance. Leg kick stride, smooth load back, good rhythm to his swing. Explosive hips and hands as well as good balance and extension. Pull approach with a lot of power potential. Showed a mature approach and a lot of confidence during his at-bats. 

Carson Box, RHP, Atlee, 2017
Box is a submariner with a drop and drive delivery and a loose arm action with normal effort. Square landing with a hard fall off to third. Fastball has late, hard sink, running 71-73. Gradual sweeping slider running 65-67. 

Robert Guenther, SS, George C. Marshall, 2017
Defensively has soft hands and good footwork with clean actions. Three-quarters arm action with accurate, average arm. Short loose action. Home to first in 4.60 from the right side. Open stance with a leg kick stride and minimal load. Used whole field showing good approach, primarily wants to work gap to gap with a line drive stroke. 

Steven Johel, RHP, George C. Marshall, 2016 (Coastal Carolina)
Johel has a tall, lanky frame and has a drop and drive delivery. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short, lightning arm action. Shoulders are closed an uphill. Fastball sat 86-89 in the first few innings, settling to 85-86 late in his start. Pitch had good plane and hard run. Heavy fade on change-up with good armspeed, running 74-75. Slowed arm a bit on curveball with gradual 10/4 action, running 64-69.

Jewell has a lanky, projectable frame. Has a strong arm with a loose, quick arm action. Good actions at short. Quick runner, went home to first in 4.00 on a sacrifice bunt from the right side. At the plate he has a short leg kick and loads back into a wrap. He has quick hands and good bat speed. 

Clay Naff, LHP, Atlee, 2017
Naff has a tall, lanky frame and throws form a high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. Short arm action with normal effort. Closed, level shoulders swinging gate into square landing. Fastball had plane and some cut, running 73-76. Curveball had gradual 12/6 break, running 64-65.

Square landing, falls off and recoils at times. Sara’s fastball has good angle and late run that is heavy at times. Sat 90-91 in the first inning, touching 92. Held 88-91 all game, with the ability to get 92 when he wanted it. Breaking ball had late, sharp 11/5 break with good depth, running 75-79. Change-up had good armspeed with late run, 81-83. Showed a cutter running 83-85 in the later innings.

Moyers hits from the left side and has a lanky frame. He has some quickness, running a 4.4 on a ball he leaned over the plate for. Leg kick stride, loads into a wrap, and dives over the plate with his stride. Has a quick bat and is short to the ball.

Showalter has a tall, lanky frame, drop and drive delivery, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot. Long, quick arm action, normal effort. Shoulders on line and uphill, square landing with an athletic finish. Fastball had late run, sitting 82-85. Showed a cutter with some late bite that was 80-82. Slider had late 10/4 action, 76-78.

Sukovich has an athletic frame, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with short arm action. Good exchange, 2.06 pop in game, 2.18-2.22 between innings, accurate throws. At plate, hits from right side, leg kick stride and load to arm bar. Drops hands and works uphill. Short swing with average bat speed, line drive type of hitter with gap power potential.

Joshua Whelan, RHP/1B, Fort Defiance, 2018
Whelan stands a lanky 6-5. He has a long, stiff arm action with a wrap, normal speed and normal effort. Shoulders closed and downhill, closed landing with fall off finish. Fastball had run to it, sitting 72-74. Gradual 11/5 curveball running 61-66.

Bryce Wood, RHP/SS, Fort Defiance, 2016
Wood has an athletic frame and a quick arm that generates velocity with some effort. His fastball sat 78-82, touching as high as 84 when he really reached back. Breaking ball was 65-68.

Allocca has an athletic frame and hits from the right side with open athletic stance. Has a load back with slight wrap and toe tap stride. A short, quick bat with explosive hips and good balance and contact skills. Allocca uses the entire field well and is quick, running a 4.13 to first.

Jack Cunningham, 3B/RHP, Paul VI Catholic, 2016 (Boston College)
At the plate, Cunningham hits from the left side. He has good bat speed and balance with quick hands and a short bat path. Showed high contact skills with the ability to spoil pitches when behind in the count, flicking them over the dugout. Good approach, using the whole field. On the mound, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with easy effort, started the first inning in the mid-80s, ramped up to 89-91 at the end of the inning to get out of a jam.

Niall Doherty, 3B, Atlantic Shores Christian, 2017
Doherty has an athletic frame and hits from the right side with a crouched stance. He has a smooth back load and is very short to the ball with good bat speed. He has easy doubles power to all fields and home run power to his pull side. Ran a 4.44 to first.

Evan Justice, LHP, Collegiate, 2017 (NC State)
Justice is a lanky lefty that throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. He has a quick, loose arm, generating velocity with normal effort. Shoulders are closed and downhill, lands on line and falls off as finishes. His fastball was 83-86, touching 87, with late run. Hard 2/8 curveball that was 68. Showed the ability to field his position.

Jon Sawyers, OF/LHP, Atlantic Shores Christian, 2018
Sawyers has a lanky, projectable 6-0 tall frame. On the mound he throws from the left side from a low three-quarters slot. He has a smooth delivery and finishes in an athletic position. Has a quick, loose arm action that generates velocity with normal effort. His fastball was 81-83 and his slider was 73 with 2/8 break. At the plate, hits from left side with a short stroke and good bat speed. Works uphill a bit and has a pull approach with good balance and a good lower half.

Austin Stevens, C, Atlantic Shores Christian, 2017
Stevens has a lanky frame and is very quick behind the plate, with good lateral blocking skills. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short, loose arm action. 2.13 pop time between innings. At the plate, hits from the right side, open stance with load back. Short path, uses the whole field well with above average bat speed and a good lower half. Doubles power to all fields, good approach using the entire field.

Erik Stock, 1B/RHP, Greenbrier Christian, 2017 (Old Dominion)
On the mound, Stock has a simple delivery and throws from a high three quarters arm slot with a loose, lightning fast arm and easy effort. His fastball was 87-90 early in the game. Threw a sharp, late 11/5 curveball that was 77-78.

Zivic is an athletic outfielder that hits from the right side. He has an open stance with a smooth load back and a very short bat with above average bat speed. He has a line drive swing and works gap to gap. He is quick, covering a lot of ground in the outfield.

Curveball had gradual 10/4 break 61-63. At the plate, Campbell hits from the right side with an open stance, a short load into a wrap, and a short swing path with above average bat speed. 

Nick Connolly, LHP/IF, Riverside, 2019
Connolly has lanky 5-11 frame and hits from the left side. He has a good, short bat path and above average batspeed. He has a classic lefty pull approach, but showed the ability to go the other way with the pitch.

Jake Dudley, IF/RHP, Culpeper, 2019
Dudley has a strong lower half and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. He has a short arm action and generates velocity with normal effort. His shoulders are square and level as he strides to a square landing with a fall off finish. His fastball had cut, sitting 74-79, touching 80. Change-up had sink and good arm action at 68. Gradual 12/6 curveball that he slowed his arm on, running 58-61. At the plate, he is strong with a good lower half and above average bat speed. Good approach, uses the whole field. Had an exit velocity of 95 on a single to left-center.

Wes Glass, LHP, Riverside, 2018
Glass has a tall, athletic frame with a strong lower half. He throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. His shoulders are downhill and closed and he lands square with recoil. His fastball has a lot of run and a tough angle, and sat 76-78, touching 79.

Ryan Hoehn, 3B, Riverside, 2018
Hoehn has an athletic frame and has good lateral agility and first step quickness at third base. He has an above average arm that is accurate. At the plate, Hoehn hits from the right side and is very short to the ball with above average bat speed.

Devin Weinstein, MIF, Riverside, 2019
Weinstein has a lanky frame and hits from the left side. He has a smooth back load and good short bat path with good extension through the ball. He showed a good approach, using the entire field and barreling the ball in all of his at-bats.

Scouting Hidden Valley vs. Cave Spring (May 19, 2016)

Nick Elder, RHP, Hidden Valley, 2016 (Navy)
Nic is a 6' 2" 180lb right handed pitcher with a lanky, athletic frame. His fastball sat at 85 mph and touched 87. Good run, with late life, Elder paints both sides of the plate.  Huge 12/6 breaking ball that he can locate at 71-72 mph. Quick arm speed, and gets a lot of unchalleged third strikes. Good change-up, used sparingly, with a little sink, at 68-69 mph. High 3/4 arm slot, quick arm speed overall delivering the ball long and loose. Great balance, level shoulders, combined with super easy effort, and a tall and fall repeatable delivery, Elder lands into a straight, square finish. Easy, smooth rhythm and keen concentration of his mission. Good athlete, excellent body language, and a fine young man. Quite projectable and will enjoy a fine college career.

Bryson Booher RHP/SS Fort Chiswell HS 2016
Bryson is a 5' 10" RHP/SS with an athletic body and speed. Known more for the pitching prowess, Booher is a smooth middle infielder with quick feet and an excellent approach at the plate. 3/4 release with a loose arm with carry and accuaracy across the diamond, Bryson is a true two way ball player. Fluid footwork and quick to the ball, his exchange is easy and quick. Quiet at the plate with a short stride and good load. Uses his lower half to create power, driving the ball to either gap. Quick, fluid swing stays in the zone and takes a short path to the ball. Great speed on the baselines, Booher ran a 6.80 sixty at Concord camp last fall. Excellent athlete, great hustle and body language. A polite young man from a great, supportive family. Byson would make solid middle infielder in college, however, he most likely will only pitch in college. Booher's pitching report is forthcoming.

Chance Davis, RHP, Fort Chiswell, 2018
Chance is a 6" 0" 150lbs lanky athlete who pitches, catches, and plays shortstop. His fastball sits at 78-79 and touched 82 several times with a nice run. Davis is a strike thrower with late movement and an advanced idea of the strike zone. Has ability to reach back and get a few mph when needed. 11/5 sharp breaking ball with near fastball arm speed. He throws his curve for strikes and can back it up on right hand hitters.  Change-up has some sink and keeps on the corners, good arm speed, and keeps it down the zone when used. Very smooth on the mound, quick arm speed, long and lose arm action with easy effort on all three pitches. Drop and drive delivery slightly falling towards first base after landing square to the plate in an athletic finish. Athlete who has good body language, and is the lead-off hitter for his team. Good kid, a leader on the field and fields his position well. Great frame for a pitcher and has good projectability. Good family, well coached.

Burgess is an athletic middle infielder with good range and soft, quick hands. He has a quick exchange and an average arm that plays up at second base. At the plate, he has a short swing and quick hands as well as good speed, making him a threat on the bases. 

Jon Clines, LHP, McLean, 2016 (VMI)
Clines’ fastball was 81-84 the entire outing, touching 85 once. His curveball was 67-68 and he threw a tight slider that was more of a cutter, running 71-75. He struggled with his command more than usual, but battled and didn’t get flustered. 

Matt Favero, LHP, James Madison, 2016 (BYU)
Favero has a strong frame and throws from a three quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. He has a short, loose, quick arm action and throws with effort. His shoulders are uphill and slightly closed as he strides to a square landing with a fall off finish. His fastball had angle and some late run, sitting 82-84 early and touching 85. Later in the game, he worked in the 81-82 range, with the ability to get 84 when he needed it. His curveball had 1/7 break that got sharper throughout the game, running 68-70. His slider had late 2/8 break, also 68-70. 

Conor Grammes, SS/RHP, McLean, 2016 (Xavier)
At short, Grammes is very smooth and has a good understanding of how much time he has on each play. His arm is accurate and he doesn’t use it unless he has to. At the plate, he showed a good approach, staying inside the ball and working the other side of the field. On the mound at the end of the game, his fastball sat 87-89 with hard late run and plane from his high three-quarters arm slot. He showed a slider with 10/4 break at 69. 

Max Groppe, LHP, McLean, 2018
Groppe is a lanky lefty that throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short, quick arm that generates velocity with normal effort. His shoulders are closed and slightly uphill as he strides to an open landing. His fastball had slight run to it, sitting 77-79. He threw a sharp 1/7 curveball that ran 64-66.

Sheehy has an athletic frame and throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short, loose arm that is average with a very quick exchange. He is athletic getting into his blocks and gets side to side well. At the plate, he has a short line-drive swing with average bat speed.

Taylor has a lanky frame and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. He has a short, loose, quick arm that generates velocity with easy effort. Powell hits from the left side and has above average bat speed. He has a longer swing path and works a bit uphill. He has home run power to his pull side and is a very instinctual baserunner.

Sam McLaughlin, RHP, Northside, 2018
Sam has a tall, strong 6-3 220 pound frame with wide shoulders and a mature body, Sam carries is size well and fields his position well. Fastball 81-83 mph with a running, sinking movement. McLaughlin keeps the ball down in the zone and throws strikes on both sides of the plate. His breaking ball is 10/4 shape that sweeps through the zone. When he gets on top of the ball, he gets more of an 11/5 shape. Can backdoor both pitches for strikes at 66-67 mph. Threw few change-ups, which were down and in to right handed batters at 62-63 mph. Throws from a sidearm arm angle with average speed and a short arm action, easy effort, employing a tall and fall motion to the plate, with good balance. Good rhythm, shoulders level, moves to plate in line and lands square finishing with an athletic fielding posture. Good athlete, confident body language, and a competitor.

JD Mundy, 3B/RHP, Northside, 2016 (Virginia Tech)
Mundy is a 6’ 0” 210 third baseman with a strong left handed hitter, athletic body, thick lower half and average speed. Throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a loose, accurate and balanced release with a position velocity of 80 mph. Good carry across the diamond, makes plays with ease, with soft hands, good footwork, landing square and straight to the target. Closes on the ball to the foul line or in the hole. Mundy is an advanced hitter, quiet at the plate. Good balance with a smooth load on all three at bats, Mundy has a short stride and explodes his lower half, and remains balanced throughout the swing. Very short path to the ball. A line drive hitter with developing power. Mundy is a fine athlete with a calm, workmanlike demeanor, very projectable.

His shoulders are uphill and closed as he strides to a slightly closed landing. His fastball sat 86-90 with a bit of late run and a lot of downward plane. His breaking ball had sharp, power 11/5 break and ran 74-77.

Gabriele’s fastball sat in the high 70’s and touched 80. His changeup was thrown with good armspeed, sitting 69-70. His curveball had 2/8 break, running 62-63.

Garrett Lutkins, LHP, Potomac Falls, 2016 (Chesapeake CC)
Lutkins has a lanky frame and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. He has a short, loose arm action, generating velocity with normal effort. His shoulders are level and closed as he strides to a closed landing with an athletic finish. Lutkins’ fastball had heavy run and sat 77-80. His changeup had good armspeed and was 73. He threw a late, sweeping slider that was 70-72. Lutkins is a strike-thrower and pounded the zone, he also showed a good feel for shutting down the running game.

Joey Skov, SS/RHP, Tuscarora, 2016 (Mary Washington)
Skov is a tall, lanky two way player. In the field, he is a smooth fielder with clean actions and an above average arm. At the plate, he has a simple swing that is short to the ball and had a bit of a pull approach with doubles power. On the mound, he threw from a high three-quarters arm slot and has a loose, quick arm that generates velocity with normal effort, sitting at 83 with a fastball that he commanded well and had a lot of plane.

Ashton King, OF, Christiansburg, 2016
King is a 6-0, 180, centerfielder, who bats right and throws left. A leadoff man with excellent speed, gap power and solid tracking instincts. Position velocity is 82 mph and accurate to every bag. An athletic player with a strong lower half. Former pitcher with a loose three-quarters release, with good carry. Quick initial step in the field, quick footwork, and a good, clean exchange. Very aggressive to the ball and covers a lot of ground in all directions. King has an athletic, tall, wide stance. Smooth load, a short stride, good balance, and good use of his lower half exploding to the ball. Average bat speed with a very confident approach. Level path, fluid rhythm with a line drive gap to gap ball flight. Very good baserunner. 

Carter Plunkett, RHP, Patrick Henry (Roanoke), 2019
Carter is 5’9” 150 lbs. Fastball clocks at 75-77 mph touching 79 several times. Plunkett throws a heavy ball that runs down and in to right handed batters and does a good job of working the corners. His curveball is 11/5 and can back up to righties and back door to lefties. Nice late movement with near fastball arm speed, Carter throws strikes and can spot outside the zone, with control, at 62-63 mph. Change up is his third pitch, good arm speed located under batter’s hands. Easy rhythm, loose arm, level shoulders, with a square landing. He’s a tall and fall pitcher, throwing his momentum towards the plate, ending in a fielding position. Good athlete with good turn and arm strength on the double play ball. Great body language and a battler, fearless.

Hoyt is 6-1, 200, with a frame like a linebacker and strong legs. His fastball sits at 84 mph and touched 86 twice during the game. With down movement, he throws a heavy ball for strike on either side of the plate. Hoyt's 12/6 curve ball was 72-74 is his out pitch, which produces a lot of non-swinging strikeouts and throws it on anytime in the count. Good change-up with a sinking, fading run and very good arm speed. Good arm speed with a nice loose over-the top thowing delivery, Hoyt is a drop and drive guy who leverages is legs to create power. Nice rhythm and shoulders level, his landing is straight and square, finishing in a strong fielding position. His personality in that of an older, more experienced player, taking what the umpire gives him, remaining calm and collected throughout the game. Very polite, respectable young man who understands pitching on a high level.

Ferreira has an athletic frame and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short, quick arm action that generates velocity with normal effort. His fastball sat 81-82 and touched 83 with run. He threw a slider that was 70-72 with late, hard 11/5 break.

Timmy Newell, RHP, Paul VI Catholic, 2016 (Immaculata)
Newell has a lanky frame and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot. He has a short arm action and generates velocity with normal effort. His shoulders are level and on line as he strides to a slightly closed landing with an athletic finish. His fastball had a bit of cut to it and downward plane, sitting 74-79 and touching 80. His changeup had slight run and good arm speed, running 67-69. He threw a gradual breaking 12/6 curveball that was 62-66 and a sharp 11/5 slider that was 65-66. Newell is a strike thrower and pounds the zone with all of his pitches.

Carter Spivey, RHP, Paul VI Catholic, 2018
Spivey has a lanky frame and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot. He has a long, loose arm action and his shoulders are uphill and closed as he strides to the plate. His fastball had heavy run, sitting 81-82 and touching 83.

Jacob Steinberg, RHP/IF, St. John’s College, 2018 (Miami)
Steinberg has an athletic frame and throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a tall and fall delivery. He has a short, lightning quick arm action and generates velocity with high effort. His shoulders are uphill and closed as he strides to a closed landing. His fastball had late run, sitting 81-85 and touching 87. He was working at the lower end of that range in the sixth inning, but could still get an 85 when he wanted it. His changeup had heavy run and was thrown with good arm speed, running 76-78. He threw a sharp 12/6 curveball that he slowed his arm down on at times, running 60-67.

His fastball had downward plane with some cut, sitting 78-81 early and high 76-78 in the fifth inning. His changeup had good armspeed and was 68. He threw a gradual 12/6 curveball that was 64-65 and a sharp, hard 1/7 slider that was 71-73. 

Michael Ludowig, OF/LHP, Briar Woods, 2017 (Wake Forest)
Ludowig has an athletic frame and hits from the left side with high hands. He loads back into an arm bar with a big leg kick. He has explosive hips and good balance, with fast hands generating good batspeed. He gets good extension through the ball and has gap or better power to all fields. He is quick, running a 4.04 home to first. On the mound, Ludowig has a drop and drive delivery and throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a lightning fast, loose arm action that generates easy velocity. His fastball sat 85-87, touching as high as 89. His changeup was 82. He slowed his arm to throw a 1/7 curveball that was 63-67.

Carter Bach, LHP/1B, Centreville, 2016 (Wake Forest)
Bach is a tall, lanky lefty that throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. He has a long, loose arm action that is quick, generating velocity with some effort when he reaches for the high end of his velocity. His shoulders are closed and uphill with a closed landing and fall off finish. His fastball had late run, sitting 83-87 for his entire outing, touching 89 when he needed it. His changeup had good armspeed with heavy sink, running 74-78. He threw a curveball with gradual 1/7 break, 71-74. His slider had hard 2/8 break, running 75-77. Bach’s command was good early in the game, showing the ability to attack inside with his fastball.

Carter Egbers, LHP, Centreville, 2017
Egbers has an athletic frame and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. He has a short, fluid, quick arm action that generates velocity with normal effort. His landing is square and he ends in an athletic position. His fastball had plane, running 80-82, touching 83. His changeup had good armspeed and heavy run, sitting 73-75. His breaking ball was a sharp, 1/7 curveball with good armspeed, running 66-69. Egbers struggled with his command in the outing.

Jared DiCesare, 3B/RHP, Chantilly, 2016 (George Mason)
DiCesare has an athletic frame and throws from a low three-quarters slot with a drop and drive delivery on the mound. His arm action is long and loose and he generates velocity with normal effort. His shoulders are closed and level and he lands closed with an athletic finish. His fastball sat 84-86 early in the game, touching 87, with hard late run. He tailed off to 82-83 in the fifth inning. His changeup had heavy fade and good armspeed at 76. He threw a sharp 11/5 curveball that ran 67-69. He commanded the ball well and attacked the zone. At the plate, DiCesare has quick hands and a short stroke with good bat speed and gap power to all fields with easy pull home run power. He showed a good approach, using the entire field.

Brandon Luke, RHP, Centreville, 2017
Luke is an athletic righty who throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. Luke has level shoulders that are on line as he strides to a square landing and athletic finish. He generates velocity with normal effort and his fastball sat 79-81 with some run. His curveball had gradual 12/6 break at 65.

Brett Norwood, SS, Chantilly, 2016
Norwood is an athletic infielder with an above average arm that is accurate and soft hands. He has good first step quickness and can make all of the plays. At the plate, he hits from the left side and has gap power to all fields with above average bat speed. He shows a good approach, using the entire field.

Miles has an athletic frame and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. His arm action is short and quick, generating velocity with some effort. His shoulders are uphill and on line as he strides to a square landing with an athletic finish. His fastball had some plane and late run, sitting 84-86. His curveball flashed plus when it was down, with sharp power 12/6 break, running 71-73. Miles showed good composure, as he got squeezed later in his outing and kept battling without getting visibly frustrated.

Nick Stewart, RHP, Rock Ridge, 2017
Stewart has a lanky, athletic frame and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot. He has a long arm action that is loose and a quick arm that generates easy velocity. His shoulders are uphill and closed as he strides to a square landing with a fall off finish. His fastball had downward plane and late run, sitting 84-86 early and still holding 83-84 while touching 85 in the seventh inning. His changeup had a lot of run and good armspeed, sitting 76-77. His breaking ball had late, hard break with 12/6 or 11/5 action depending on what side of the plate it was thrown to, running 70-74. He showed good command of all three pitches, and attacked the strike zone all game.

Teddy Paisley, RHP, Hidden Valley, 2016
Paisley is a lanky right hander that works with a high 3/4 arm angle. His fastball sat 82-85 touching 86 three times, with a late cut. He pitched in the top of the zone. He throws a sharp 12/6 curveball with near fastball arm speed, running 67-68. A nice loose arm and delivery, good balance with a square landing. Good use of his lower half in a drop and drive motion. Smooth and athletic pitcher with a lot of mound presence.  Good athlete with character. Was knocked around by a solid hitting team, but went the distance with grit, never losing his composure. Excellent student carrying a 4.5 GPA. 

Will Stout RHP Christiansburg High school 2018
Stout is a 6'0" 150 lbs starting pitcher with a lanky, athletic body and good projectibility.  He throws with a loose, quick, three-quarters arm, with excellent balance, and easy tall and fall motion. His shoulders are level, inline, with a square, athletic finish. Great frame for a pitcher and alot of upside as he contiunes to grow. Stout's fastball ranges from 79 mph to 83 mph, touching 84. He can elevate and spot his fastball down in the zone and wears out the both sides of the plate, with late life. 11/5 breaking ball sits at 68 mph with near fastball arm speed, angling down in zone (three K's backing up). Good arm speed on the change-up which sits at 58 mph with a little fade. Very athletic player who has the poise of a senior, a good kid with a good supportive family.

Luke Burner, OF, Highland School, 2019
Burner has an athletic frame and hits from the left side from an open, athletic stance. He has a leg kick stride with smooth load back. He has a short swing with above average bat speed and showed a good approach, using the entire field and consistently barreling the ball throughout the day.

Jacob Haney, RHP, Covenant School, 2017 (William & Mary)
Haney is an athletic righty who throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. His arm action is loose and quick, generating velocity with normal effort. His shoulders are uphill and closed as he strides to a square landing with a fall off. Haney showed two fastballs, a four seamer with plane and some late run and a two seamer with hard run. His fastballs ran 83-86, touching 87 a few times. His curveball had sharp, power 11/5 break, running 73-78.

John Harris, 3B, Woodberry Forest, 2019
Harris is a physical freshman with an athletic frame and a strong lower half. At third base he has soft hands, a very good first step and good awareness of what is going on and where to make a play. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with an above average arm that showed accuracy. At the plate, he hits from an open stance with a smooth load back, striding a bit open and pulling off of the ball. He has above average bat speed and pull gap power, with the potential for much more in the future.

Cameron Hill, OF/RHP, Woodberry Forest, 2018
Hill is a pure athlete with an incredible, projectable frame. He has a spectacular first step in the outfield and a lot of range with an above average arm. He hits from the right side and is very raw at the plate but has very good hand eye coordination and fast bat that projects to have easy home run power. On the mound, he throws from an over the top delivery that was choppy, with a quick loose arm action. His shoulders were uphill and online with a square landing. His fastball had late run and plane, sitting 77-80. His breaking ball had gradual 10/4 break, running 64-66. To give you an idea of his speed, he ran a 3.68 on a push bunt attempt.

Noah Lerman, OF, Highland School, 2017
Lerman is an athletic outfielder who hits from an open athletic stance with a leg kick stride and no load. He has good hips and balance throughout his swing with a short path to the ball and good speed. Lerman showed a good approach and used the entire field.

Will Moore, RHP, Covenant School, 2017 (William & Mary)
Moore is an athletic righty that throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. His arm action is loose and quick, generating easy velocity. His shoulders are closed and uphill before landing closed and falling off. Moore’s fastball had heavy run, sitting 84-86. He threw a changeup with good armspeed that was 75. His slider had gradual, late 10/4 break, running 70-72. Moore’s command was inconsistent all day as he struggled missing to his armside.

Josh Pittman, RHP/MIF, Highland School, 2017
Pittman is a lanky righty that throws from a high three-quarters arm slot. He has a short, loose arm action that generates velocity with normal effort. His shoulders are closed and uphill as he strides to a square landing with a fall off finish. Pittman’s fastball had late run, and sat 83-86, touching 87. His changeup had good armspeed and fade to it, running 76-79. His curveball had sharp 12/6 action, running 70-75. He showed good feel and command with all three pitches.

Matt Shobe, LHP, Covenant School, 2016 (Bucknell)
Shobe is a lanky lefty that has a drop and drive delivery and throws from two slots, just below side and low three-quarters. He has a long, loose arm action and generates velocity with normal effort. His fastball was 81-82 from low three-quarters with some run and 74-76 from subby with heavy run. His slider was late and tight, running 2/8 from low three quarters at 68-71 and sweeping from sub at 66-67.

Timmy Stephan, MIF/RHP, Highland School 2017
Stephan is an athletic two-way player who hits from an open stance with a load back to a slight wrap and a leg kick stride. He is short to the ball with above average bat speed and a decent lower half and balance. On the mound, Stephan has a drop and drive delivery and lands closed with a slight crossfire delivery and normal effort. His fastball sat 79-82. His changeup had sink, running 71-75. His breaking ball had late 10/4 action, running 67-70. Stephan was a bit timid in his outing, trying to nibble and not being aggressive in the strike zone and falling behind.

Darcy has a lanky athletic frame and is a good defender at third with good first step quickness. He has a short, loose, high three-quarters arm that is above average right now with the potential to be good. He has soft hands and fluid release. Darcy hits from the left side from an athletic stance with stride on line forward and a slight load into a wrap. He has a good lower half with good balance throughout his swing. Takes a short path to the ball with quick hands and good extension through the ball. He has good batspeed and easy gap power with the potential for more.

Kisner has an athletic frame and throws from an over the top slot. He has a quick arm and lands open. His fastball had some cut to it, sitting 79-81. He showed a changeup with sink at 73 and a 12/6 curveball with late, sharp break running 68-72.

Lyons is an athletic righty who throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. His arm action is quick and loose. His fastball had slight run, sitting 83-85, touching 86. His curveball had 11/5 action, running 70-71.

Shreves has an athletic frame and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. Shreves struggled with his command at the start of the game, but maintained his composure and fought out of a tough spot, showing good competitiveness. His feel improved as the game went on and he was very good after the first few batters.

Loyd is an athletic outfielder with some speed, running a 4.16 from the left side of the box. He has a short swing with above average bat speed and a short bat path, working uphill a bit with good extension through the ball. He has pull power but showed the ability to use the entire field.

Whitt is a good defender at shortstop with an athletic frame and good athleticism. He has good lateral range and quick first step with soft hands and a good transfer to go with above average arm strength.

Colangelo has a lanky frame and hits from the left side. He has average balance and an ok lower half. He is short to the ball with a line drive approach, using the entire field. He is a line drive hitter with the ability to pull the ball for doubles power.

Jack Cunningham, RHP/SS, Paul VI Catholic, 2016 (Boston College)
Cunningham has an athletic, projectable frame that he can still add some weight too. He hits from the left side and showed a good approach, using the entire field. He has a short swing with gap power to all fields. On the mound, Cunningham has a drop and drive delivery and throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a long, loose arm action that is lightning quick and generates easy velocity. His shoulders are level and closed as he strides to a square landing with a fall off finish. Cunningham’s fastball sat 88-89 in his first few innings with late run to it, and he was still holding 86 in the fourth. His changeup had run to it and was 74-80. He threw a good power slider with 10/4 action that he slowed his arm down on a bit, running 67-73, with the pitch being sharper at the higher end of the range. He showed good command with his fastball, moving it around the strike zone.

Michael Coritz, SS/RHP, Paul VI Catholic, 2016 (Naval Academy)
Coritz is an athletic defender and showed good lateral range as well as awareness during the game. He has soft hands and a clean release to go with an above average arm. On the mound, Coritz has a drop and drive delivery and an over the top slot with a quick arm that generates velocity with some effort. His fastball sat 82-83 with some cut action. He threw a 12/6 sharp curveball that ran 69-71.

Michael Morgan, C, Paul VI Catholic, 2017 (James Madison)
Morgan hits from the right side with an open athletic stance, a leg kick stride with a short load back. He has a good lower half with above average bat speed. He is short to the ball with good extension and showed a good approach, working the middle of the field. He has a line drive stroke with some doubles power that could increase as he matures. Behind the plate, he throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a loose, above average arm. His pop times between innings were 1.97-2.10 and he threw 2.09 in game to the corner of the bag. He is very agile with his blocking, covering a lot of ground laterally.

Fox Semones, SS/RHP, C.D. Hylton, 2016 (James Madison)
Semones is an athletic two way player that hits from the right side with short stroke with above average bat speed. He has doubles power to the middle of the field and a bit more to his pull side. He is very fast, running 4.03 twice in the game and showing a lot of range and athleticism at shortstop. On the mound, Semones throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery and a short, lightning fast arm action that generates velocity with some effort. His shoulders are on line and slightly uphill. His fastball sat 87-89, touching 90 once with a bit of late run to it. His slider had sharp, power 11/5 break, sometimes running more 10/4, that was 75-77.

Shepard is an athletic righty that throws form a high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. His fastball had downward plane and late run, sitting 84-87 the whole game, touching 88. In the stretch his velocity fell to 79-83. He primarily threw an 11/5 power curveball running 71-72. Twice he flipped in a slow 12/6 curveball that ran 65. Shepard’s command was very good out of the windup, and he was up when in the stretch.

Smooth rhythm, shoulders level, in-line, square motion with an athletic finish. Body language says he is in charge, a good kid, serious competitor.  Good frame to fill up.

Bradley is a lanky righty that throws from three-quarters arm slot with a long, loose, quick arm action with normal effort. His changeup had good armspeed with sinking action, running 73-75. He slowed his arm a bit on a late 10/4 slider that ran 69-71. He had a couple of pitches and at-bats get away from him, but he did a good job battling out of some tough spots and not getting rattled. His command was inconsistent throughout the game, but he had periods where it was very good and he was in total control of the game.

Jon Clines, LHP, McLean, 2016 (VMI)
Clines has an athletic frame and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a smooth tall and fall delivery. His arm action is short, loose and quick, generating velocity with normal effort. His shoulders are closed and uphill as he strides to a square, athletic landing. His fastball has a lot of downward plane with some late run, he worked the entire game 80-83, touching 84-85 a few times early in the game. His changeup had heavy sink with very good armspeed, running 74-77. His curveball had late, gradual 1/7 action, running 69-72. He has very good command and feel of his fastball/changeup combination.

Collins has an athletic frame and hits from the right side. He has a good lower half and good balance to his swing. Grammes is an athletic infielder that hits from the right side. He has a smooth load back to a wrap with decent hips and balance. At short, he is smooth and throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short, loose arm action. On the mound, he throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery and a lightning fast arm that generates velocity with some effort. His fastball sat 87-89, with most of them being 89, with heavy run. He threw one 10/4 slider that ran 66.

Travis Huisman, SS/RHP, Fairfax, 2017
Huisman is a lanky infielder with some speed and athleticism. He ran a 4.32 down the line and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a long arm action that is free with below average strength and decent hands. At the plate, he has a short swing with long levers and gap power potential.

Nick Liverpool, 1B, McLean, 2019
Liverpool is built like a tank with an incredibly strong lower half. H hits from the right side with a leg kick stride, loading back into a wrap. He has explosive hips with average balance with a slight drift. He is short to the ball with good bat speed and good extension through the ball. He showed a pull approach with easy home run power to his pull side.

Grant Williams, C, McLean, 2018
Williams has an athletic frame and hits from the right side. He loads back and flat with a short stride. He has a decent lower half with above average balance. He is short to the ball with a flatter bat path and above average bat speed. He is a line drive guy who works the middle of the field with good barrel control and the potential for gap power. Behind the plate, he throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short, loose arm that is average now with a lot of tail on his ball. His pop times were between 2.09 and 2.13 between innings with accuracy.

Scouting Chancellor at Eastern View (April 5, 2016)

Alex Kobersteen, RHP, Courtland, 2018
Kobersteen has a lanky frame and a drop and drive delivery, throwing from a three-quarters arm slot with a short, loose, quick arm that generates easy velocity. His shoulders are closed and uphill as he strides to a slightly closed landing with an athletic finish. Kobersteen’s fastball sat 82-84 in the stretch, 84-86 in the windup, touching 87 with hard late run. He only threw his changeup in warmups, it had decent armspeed and sink. His slider was a swing and miss pitch with tight 11/5 action that sometimes was more 10/4, running 70-76. Kobersteen was dominant for the first two innings of his outing, then lost his command for a bit in the third before battling through it to nearly get out of the inning unscathed. He got victimized by a few flares in his final inning of work. Showed good composure throughout.

Ray Tricarico, UTIL, Eastern View, 2017

At the plate, Hayes hits from the right side with average bat speed, good balance and a short line drive stroke that uses the whole field.

Ethan Lipp, C/SS, James Madison, 2019
Lipp has a lanky, athletic frame and hits from the right side. He has a short load back and strides forward. He has a decent lower half and good balance throughout his swing. Lipp is very short to the ball with good extension and above average bat speed. Lipp has gap to gap power with the potential for more as he develops.

Jake Nielsen, RHP, James Madison, 2018
Nielsen has an athletic frame and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short, loose arm that generates velocity with normal effort. His shoulders are down and closed as he strides to a square landing with a fall off finish. Nielsen’s fastball had heavy run, sitting 82-84 in the windup, and 80-81 in the stretch. His curveball had gradual 10/4 action, running 69-70 and has a lot of potential as he gets stronger and tightens its spin.

Nielsen is an athletic switch hitter who should be able to stick at shortstop. On the mound, he has a drop and drive delivery, throwing from a three-quarters arm slot with normal effort. His fastball had late run and sat 86-89, touching 90 once with late run. At the plate, Nielsen has quick hands and a fast bat. He loads into a slight arm bar with a longer path to the ball and good extension through it. He has a good lower half with good balance throughout his swing from either side. He has gap power to all fields from both sides of the plate with the potential for more.

Richards has an athletic frame, a drop and drive delivery, and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a long, loose, quick arm action that generates velocity with normal effort. His shoulders are closed and uphill and he lands square with a slight fall off and recoil. His fastball had late run, sitting 74-75, and was commanded to both sides of the plate. His changeup had fade with good armspeed, running 70. His curveball had gradual 1/7 action, running 62-64, and showed the potential to be good as he tightens it up. Richards showed a lot of mental toughness and competitiveness, not getting phased by anything that went on around him and constantly attacking a very good lineup. He showed no fear of going inside with his fastball.

Joe Rizzo, 3B, Oakton, 2016 (South Carolina)
Rizzo was pitched around for most of the game, but in his final at bat he was pitched aggressively in a left on left matchup. The result was a home run to deep right center.

Toma Shigaki-Than, RHP, Oakton, 2017
Shigaki-Than’s fastball sat 83-86 and touched 87. His changeup had fading action at 77. His breaking ball had its usual sharp 12/6 action at 76. Shigaki-Than struggled with is command early, falling behind hitters and not getting to use his curveball as an out pitch. Madison got to him in his second trip through the order.

His shoulders are uphill and on line as he strides out to a square landing with a fall off. His fastball has good downward plane and ran 83-87 at the top of the zone. His curveball had late 12/6 break, running 68-73. 

Kyle Keenan, C, Millbrook, 2018
Keenan has an athletic frame and a short, loose arm. His pop times ran 2.00-2.12. He is quick into his blocks and looked comfortable handling Simonelli’s stuff. At the plate he has quick hands and a line drive swing with the potential to grow into more power.

Miles has an athletic frame and good actions at third base. He has a quick first step and good hands, throwing from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short, loose, above average arm. At the plate, he has a short, quick swing with a gap to gap approach and the potential to develop power. On the mound, he throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a quick, short, loose arm action with some effort. His shoulders are closed and he has a square landing and athletic finish. Miles’ fastball ran 81-85, touching 86 with late run. He threw a power 12/6 curveball, running 70-73.

Rader has a strong frame and throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a smooth delivery. He has a short, quick arm action and generates velocity with some effort. His shoulders are closed, slightly uphill as he strides out to a square landing with a recoil. His fastball sat 80-83 with slight run to it. Rader’s changeup had heavy fade, running 73-75. He threw a late 1/7 curveball, running 67-71.

Anthony Simonelli, RHP, Millbrook, 2017 (Coastal Carolina)
Simonelli throws from a low three quarters arm slot with a smooth delivery. His fastball touched 89 in the first inning and he worked 83-88 on the day, still sitting 86-87 in the fifth inning. His changeup has outstanding armspeed and heavy fading action, running 76-80. Simonelli’s slider had hard 11/5 action, running 72-75, with the ones at the higher end of the range showing no snap, just biting off the table late.

Robertson is a tall righty with a strong, projectable frame. His fastball sat 86-88, touching 89, with run to it. He threw a late 10/4 breaking ball with decent armspeed, running 63-68. His changeup had fade with decent armspeed, running 62-65. Fitzgerald has a strong frame and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short, loose arm action and a below average arm. His pop times ranged from 2.19-2.34. At the plate, he hits from the right side with a load back into a slight arm bar. He has a good lower half and good balance throughout his swing with above average bat speed because of how strong he is. He is a bit longer to the ball with good extension through it, generating gap power with the potential for more. Showed a good approach using the whole field. Had an exit velo of 86 on a single to left.

Jack Jaekle, RHP, Briar Woods, 2017
Jaekle has an athletic frame and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a smooth drop and drive delivery. He has a quick, short arm action, generating velocity with normal effort. His shoulders are down and closed as he strides to a closed landing with a fall off. Jaekle’s fastball sat 80-81 with some late run and plane. His velocity dipped to 77 in the stretch. His 12/6 curveball showed a ton of potential, running 65-68.

Jake Kleifges, SS, Briar Woods, 2017
Kleifges has an athletic frame and is a smooth fielder at shortstop with good actions and quickness. He ran a 4.28 on a groundout. At the plate, he hits from the right side with an open, upright stance. He has a smooth load to a wrap with a leg kick stride. He has a decent lower half and decent balance. Showed a bit of a pull approach with a line drive swing with good batspeed and the potential for doubles power.

George Rosales, C, Briar Woods, 2018
Rosales has an athletic frame. Behind the plate, he throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, with a short, loose arm action and average arm that was very accurate. He is quick into his block and a good receiver. His pop times were 2.09-2.28. At the plate, he hits from the right side with a short, quick swing. He has a line drive approach and works gap to gap with consistent hard contact and the potential for gap power.

Kyle Schofield, OF, Freedom (South Riding), 2018
Schofield has a lanky frame and is very quick, running a 4.25 from the left side. He has a good lower half and good balance. He generates good bat speed and showed a good approach, using the entire field. He is short to the ball with good batspeed and has a line drive swing with the potential to develop gap or better power.

Ager is a tall righty with an athletic frame. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. His arm action is long and quick, generating velocity with normal effort. His shoulders are slightly closed and uphill as he strides out to a slightly open landing before falling off as he finishes. Ager’s fastball has good plane to it, cuts a bit when thrown glove side, and runs a bit when thrown armside. His fastball sat 84-87 the entire game, touching 88 once. His changeup had sink with some run, sitting 78-81. His curveball ran 69-71 with sharp 12/6 break, biting harder at the higher end of the range. Ager battled his command all day and did a good job throwing a one hit shutout on a day when he was not working with his best stuff.

Gary Fuller, RHP, Stone Bridge, 2017
Fuller is an athletic righty that throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with an explosive drop and drive delivery. He has a short arm action that is quick, generating velocity with some effort. His shoulders are uphill and slightly closed as he strides out to a square landing with a fall off finish. Fuller’s fastball had some downward plane with cutting action, running 83-87 during his outing. His curveball had sharp 12/6 action, running 67-69.

Hunter Gore, C, Loudoun Valley, 2016 (Liberty)
Gore has an athletic frame and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short, loose arm action with above average arm strength. He had a game pop of 2.09 and he was between 2.00 and 2.12 between innings. Gore hits from the left side from an athletic stance. He has a smooth load back and short stride forward. He is very short to the ball and works a bit uphill to it, getting good extension through the ball. He has a good lower half, good balance, and good bat speed. Gore shows a good approach, using the whole field with gap power to all fields and home run power to his pull side.

T.J. Holdredge, 3B/RHP, Loudoun Valley, 2016
Holdredge has an athletic frame with a strong lower half and is an athletic fielder at third with a good first step. He has decent hands, smooth actions, a short arm action, and a good first step. At the plate, he hits from the right side with a short load back into a bit of a wrap with a short stride forward. He has a good bat path with above average bat speed, a good lower half with good balance. He has a good line drive swing with gap power.

He worked gap to gap and has gap power with the potential for more, registering an exit velocity of 90 on a single to right center.

Don Goodes, OF, Grassfield, 2018
Goodes is an athletic outfielder who is a quick and takes good routes on balls. He has an over the top arm slot that is loose with an above average arm with good carry on his throws. He has a clean, quick release. At the plate, Goodes hits from the left side from an athletic stance with good lower half and good balance throughout his swing. He is very quick to the ball, with a line drive swing and a pull approach.

Corey Klak, LHP, Western Branch, 2016 (Old Dominion)
Klak has a lanky frame and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. His arm action is long and loose, generating velocity with some effort. His shoulders are closed and down as he swings to a square landing before falling off as he finishes. Klak’s fastball has heavy run to it and a tough angle, sitting 84-86, touching 87. His change-up had fading action and his slider was 10/4 with more of a cutter action to it. All pitches that he threw in the game were 82 or above.

He has a good lower half with decent balance throughout his swing. He is short the ball with above average bat speed and decent extension. Riddick has a gap to gap approach with a line drive stroke that will generate some doubles and consistent hard contact.

Garrett Stallings, RHP, Grassfield, 2016 (Tennessee)
Stallings is an athletic righthander with a strong lower half. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a smooth delivery. His arm action is shorter, loose, and lightning quick, generating velocity with normal effort. His shoulders are closed and level as he strides out to a square landing before falling off as he finishes. Stallings’ fastball sat 88-90 for eight innings, touching 91 early in the game, with a lot of downward plane and some run. His changeup was thrown with good armspeed and heavy run, sitting 81-83. He threw a hard, late 12/6 curveball that was 77-80. He also threw a late, hard 10/4 slider that was 82-83. Stallings showed good command of all four pitches and worked to contact throughout the game, only going for strikeouts when necessary.

Velasquez has an athletic frame with a strong lower half. He did not play in the game, but did take infield and looked very good. He has a good first step and soft hands with a good exchange. He has a loose arm action that is short and an accurate arm.

He has a short arm action that is a bit stiff in the back but is lightning fast through its armstroke, generating velocity with some effort. His shoulders are closed and uphill as he strides to a square landing with a hard fall off and slight recoil. Celata’s fastball has heavy run, sitting 81-83. His curveball had 11/5 action, running 68-69.

Mikey Polansky, 3B, Hickory, 2017 (Virginia Tech)
Polansky has a strong frame. At third base, he throws from an over-the-top slot with a short arm action and an average arm. He has average hands but good actions. At the plate, Polansky hits from the left side with an unorthodox swing. He loads up and back into an arm bar with a slight leg kick stride. Polansky’s hands are absurdly quick, generating elite bat speed. He has an explosive lower half with balance throughout his swing. He showed a pull approach with elite power, hitting a long home run on a ball he popped up.

Cody Schneider, OF, Hickory, 2016 (Radford)
Schneider is an athletic outfielder with a projectable frame. He gets good jumps in the outfield and takes good routes with speed. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a loose, strong arm, and a quick release. At the plate, Schneider hits from the right side from an athletic stance. He has good rhythm with a smooth load back, striding on line forward. He has an explosive lower half with good balance throughout his swing. He has lightning quick hands with elite batspeed, generating home run power to all fields. He is short to the ball with very good extension and uses the entire field. Schneider even showed a willingness to do whatever he could to get on base, sticking his leg out to take a curveball for a hit by pitch. Schneider displays all five tools regularly.

Gage Williams, RHP, Nansemond River, 2018
Williams has a lanky frame and throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a smooth drop and drive delivery. He has a short arm action that is a bit stiff on the back side but loose during his quick armstroke, generating easy velocity. His shoulders are closed and uphill as he strides out to a closed landing with an athletic finish. Williams’ fastball ran 79-81, touching 82, with hard run to it. His slider had gradual 10/4 action, running 66-69. Williams drew a tough assignment with the Hickory lineup, and did a good job battling throughout his outing and showing fight and composure the entire game.

Williams is an athletic defender with solid receiving skills. He has a quick release, throwing from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short, loose arm action. At the plate, Williams hits from the right side with a leg kick stride and a level swing. He is short to the ball with a line drive approach. His shoulders are closed and slightly uphill as he strides out to a closed landing, creating a crossfire delivery. Wagner’s fastball had slight late run to it, touching 82 while working 78-80. His changeup had good armspeed with fading action, running 68. He threw his 1/7 breaking ball at two speeds, a big, loopy one at 62-66 and a hard one at 72. He fields his position well and has a good pickoff move to first.

Whitten is a lanky righty that throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a rushed drop and drive delivery. He has a short arm action that is loose with a quick arm, generating velocity with some effort. His shoulders are uphill as he strides to a square landing before falling off as he finishes. Whitten’s fastball had good plane and some late sinking action. It touched 87, sitting 83-86. He showed a late, 12/6 curveball that was 71. Whitten’s command was off for most of the day as he struggled to get ahead of hitters and locate his fastball, leaving few situations to use his offspeed stuff. He did finally settle in a bit towards the end of his five innings.

He has an explosive lower half and maintains good balance throughout his swing. Clarke has very good bat speed and is short to the ball with good extension through it. Clarke showed a good approach, using the entire field. He has gap power to all fields and home run power to his pull side with the potential to have home run power to all fields. Behind the plate, Clarke throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short, quick, loose arm action and above average arm strength. His between inning pop times were 2.03-2.06.

Harrison Clifton, LHP, Steward, 2020
Clifton has a lanky athletic frame. He throws from a low three-quarters arm slot and has a smooth delivery. He has a long, loose arm action and generates velocity with easy effort. Clifton has feel for a good fastball/slider combination and has a ton of upside as he develops and fills out his frame.

Noah Cook, SS, Liberty Christian, 2017 (VMI)
Cook is an athletic infielder with good footwork at shortstop. He has good range and takes good angles to the ball. He has average hands and a good exchange to go with an above average arm. At the plate, Cook hits from the right side from an athletic stance with a leg kick stride and a short load back. He has a good lower half and maintains balance throughout his swing. He works uphill with fast hands and he gets good extension through the baseball. Cook has a pull approach with gap power to his pull side.

Zack Hess, RHP, Liberty Christian, 2016 (Louisiana State)
Hess is a big righty with a projectable athletic frame. He throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a quick drop and drive delivery. Hess has a longer, loose arm action and a lightning quick arm and he generates velocity with some effort. His shoulders are uphill and closed as he strides out to a square landing before falling off a bit as he finishes and recoiling. Hess’s fastball worked 89-93 and touched 94 in his three innings of work. The pitch had some angle from his frame and slot as well as late boring action. He only threw his change-up in warm-ups, and the pitch had fading action with very good armspeed. His slider was very good and had power 10/4 break, running 79-82.

Hunter Johnson, 3B, Liberty Christian, 2017
Johnson is a very good defender at third that throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a loose arm action and above average arm strength. He has very good first step quickness and soft hands to go with a clean exchange. At the plate, Johnson hits from the left side and loads back into a slight arm bar with a stride forward. Johnson has good bat speed and a good lower half with balance as he works slightly uphill with his swing path, getting good extension through the ball. He showed a pull approach and has gap power to his pull side with the potential for more.

Garret Price, SS/RHP, Liberty Christian, 2016
Price has an athletic frame and a smooth drop and drive delivery. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short, loose arm action that generates velocity with normal effort. His shoulders are uphill as he strides out on line to an athletic finish with a recoil. He fields his position well. Price’s fastball had late run to it and sat 83-84, touching 85. His change-up had sinking arm action and very good armspeed, running 78. His slider had sharp 11/5 break and good armspeed, running 72-75. Price pounded the strike zone, moving his fastball in and out and showing the good command of his breaking ball, getting a few strikeouts of lefties with back footers.

Austin Roach, 1B, Liberty Christian, 2018
Roach is a big kid with an athletic frame and a strong lower half. He hits from the right side and has a slight leg kick stride and a rhythmic load back into a slight arm bar. He has a good lower half and maintains balance throughout his swing. He does a good job of keeping his hands inside the ball. He works a bit uphill with his path and showed a pull approach with good bat speed. Roach has gap power to his pull side and projects to develop home run power to his pull side.

David Angstadt, 3B/SS, Collegiate, 2016 (William & Mary)
Angstadt has an athletic frame and a very quiet, simple swing. He starts with a smooth load back with a slight leg kick stride. His hips are explosive and he maintains his balance throughout his swing. He is very short to the ball and gets good extension through it with good bat speed. Angstadt has a line drive approach and uses the whole field with gap power to all fields.

Harry Brown, C, Greenbrier Christian, 2016 (James Madison)
Brown has a strong lower half to his athletic frame and hits from the left side. He has good rhythm and a big leg kick stride with a bat waggle. He has a good lower half and maintains balance throughout his swing. He has good batspeed and is very strong and gets good extension through the ball. He has a good approach and uses the entire field, attacking the first pitch that he can hammer. He has gap power to all fields and pull home run power.

Jason Hartline, LHP, Greenbrier Christian, 2017
Hartline is a big lefty with a strong lower half. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. He has a short, loose arm action and generates velocity with normal effort. His shoulders are closed and slightly uphill as he strides out to a slightly closed landing. Hartline’s fastball touched 82 and he worked from 79-81 with good plane and a bit of cut on his ball. His breaking ball had 1/7 break and ran 65-68, with more power action when thrown harder. His changeup was thrown with good armspeed and fading action.

Garrett Jones, 2B, Greenbrier Christian, 2016 (Naval Academy)
Jones has an athletic frame and hits from the right side. He has a smooth stride forward and loads back into a slight wrap. He has a good lower half and maintains balance throughout his swing. He extends through the ball well and has a line drive swing with gap to gap power. In the field, he has good actions and good side to side range with a fluid, quick release.

Erick Stock, SS/1B, Greenbrier Christian, 2017 (Old Dominion)
Stock has a projectable, athletic frame and hits from the right side. He has very quick hands and a good approach, using the entire field well. He gets good extension through the ball and has gap power to all fields with the potential for more.

Nigel Williams, SS/RHP, Collegiate, 2020
Williams is just an eighth grader but looked like he belonged on the field playing second base next to Angstadt. He has a lanky frame and good actions, with a ton of natural athleticism. He has good hands at the plate and decent bat speed. Defensively, he has soft hands. On the mound, he threw from a three-quarters arm slot and had a quick, loose arm action, generating velocity with easy effort.

Chase DeGrood, 3B/OF, Patriot, 2017
DeGrood has an athletic frame and is versatile and is capable of playing most positions in the infield as well as either corner outfield spot. He hits from the left side with an athletic stance. He has a leg kick stride and a smooth load back into a slight arm bar. His hips leak a bit forward but he maintains balance throughout his swing and has a good lower half. DeGrood’s hands are very good and he does a good job of getting to the ball and hitting it where it is thrown. He has a good approach and uses the whole field with his line drive swing and DeGrood has the potential for gap power or more.

Patrick Fyvie, LHP, Patriot, 2017
Fyvie has a lanky frame and throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a smooth drop and drive delivery. He has a long, loose arm action that is quick and generates velocity with some effort. His shoulders are uphill and closed as he strides out to a square landing before falling off as he finishes. Fyvie’s fastball touched 80 and ran 77-79 with late run and plane to it. He commanded it well in and out. His changeup had fading action and good armspeed, running 71. His curveball had gradual 1/7 break and he slowed his arm down a bit on it, with the pitch running 65-66.

Austin Gerber, RHP, Patriot, 2016 (Radford)
Gerber has an athletic frame and throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a smooth drop and drive delivery. He has a short arm action that is loose and generates velocity with some effort. His shoulders are uphill and closed as he strides out to a square landing. His fastball was 80-84 and he had some plane to it and a bit of late run. His changeup was very good and was thrown with full armspeed and fading action, running 71-74. His curveball had gradual 11/5 break and ran 65. His command of his changeup and fastball were very good.

Jake Jansen, OF, Patriot, 2017
Jansen is an athletic outfielder with very good speed. He has a strong arm and gets good jumps in the outfield, covering a lot of ground in centerfield. At the plate, Jansen has a patient approach and sees a lot of pitches. He hits from an upright athletic stance with a short load back and stride forward. He has a good lower half and maintains his balance throughout his swing. He is short to the ball and has decent bat speed. He has a line drive approach and uses the whole field with gap power.

Antonio Menendez, RHP, Herndon, 2017 (Wake Forest)
Menendez has a lanky frame and throws from multiple slots, submarine and three-quarters. He has a smooth drop and drive delivery and a short arm action that generates velocity with normal effort. His shoulders are level and closed as he strides out to a slightly closed landing. From his natural three-quarters arm slot, Menendez’s fastball was 83-86, touching 87 with hard run. His slider had sharp 10/4 break and ran 70-74. From his submarine slot, his fastball was 79-83 with heavy sink and his slider had sweeping action, running 71-74. Menendez has an advanced feel for how to keep hitters off balance, changing his timing and slot to keep hitters confused. He also has a very quick move to first and understands how to hold runners.

Cole Gabrielle, LHP, Tuscarora, 2016 (Mary Washington)
Gabriele has a strong lower half and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. He has a short arm action and generates velocity with normal effort. His shoulders are closed and slightly uphill as he strides out to a slightly closed landing, creating a crossfire effect and giving him some deception. Gabriele’s fastball sat 77-79 and touched 81, with plane and slight run and occasional cut. His curveball had big, gradual 1/7 break and he slowed his arm a bit to throw it at 62. Gabriele commanded the ball very well and kept hitters off balance by changing speeds and moving his fastball around.

Brandon Kelman, C, Loudoun County, 2017
Kelman hits from the right side and loads straight back into a slight arm bar. He takes a longer path to the ball and does have average bat speed. He maintains balance throughout his swing and is a line drive hitter who works the middle of the field. Behind the plate, Kelman has a clean release and an accurate arm, throwing a 2.21 game pop right to the corner of the bag. His between inning time was 2.19.

Ben Knuff, OF, Tuscarora, 2017
Knuff is an athletic outfielder who hits from the right side. He has an open stance and a smooth load back. He drops his hands a bit and has a flatter bat path to the ball while maintaining balance throughout his swing. Knuff is a line drive hitter with a lot of speed who wants to put the ball in play and use his legs. Knuff had a time to first of 4.01 beating out a grounder to third for infield single.

Noah Lacy, C, Tuscarora, 2016 (UVA Wise)
Lacy is big and athletic and has good batspeed. His power potential was on display as he had three extra base hits in the game. He has a good approach and uses the whole field, pulling two doubles to left and staying inside on a ball to triple to right center. Lacy has gap power to all fields and still has the potential to develop more power as he continues to add strength. Lacy does a good job gaining ground during his transfer and has a quick release, with a 1.95 between-inning pop time.

Dominick Marinelli, SS, Tuscarora, 2016
Marinelli is an athletic infielder who hits from the right side. He has a quick bat and good hands. He maintains balance throughout his swing path and has gap power with the potential for more. At shortstop, he has very good actions good footwork. He works through the ball well and has soft hands. He mostly throws from a sidearm slot and has a quick release with an average arm that is accurate.

Bryce Pearson, 3B/RHP, Tuscarora, 2016
Pearson has an athletic frame and hits from the right side. He has decent hands and some bat speed. He has a good line drive approach and works towards the middle of the field, with gap power. At third base, he has good actions and is athletic. He has soft hands and an above average arm as well as a clean exchange. On the mound, Pearson throws from an over the top slot with a short arm action. He gets good plane on his fastball which was 76-78. He also threw a 12/6 curveball that ran 62-63.

Will Schroeder, SS/RHP, Loudoun County, 2018
Schroeder has a projectable, athletic 6-0 frame. On the mound, he throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a smooth drop and drive delivery. He has a short, loose arm action that is quick and generates velocity with some effort. His shoulders are closed and slightly downhill as he strides out to a square landing and finishing athletically with a recoil. Schroeder’s fastball sat 79-83 in the outing, touching 84 in the first inning. He had some plane and late run to it. He threw a fading change-up that ran 67-70. His 12/6 curveball had gradual break and was 62-66. He also dropped down to throw a sweeping slider that was 67-71. Schroeder slowed his arm a bit on all of his offspeed pitches early, but sped them up a bit as the game went on. He struggled to find a tight strike zone in the first inning, but battled through it without losing his composure before settling in. He has a very good mound presence and can field his position. At the plate, Schroeder hits from the right side from an athletic stance. He has a leg kick stride and a smooth load back into a slight arm bar. He has an explosive lower half and maintains balance throughout his swing. He has very fast hands and good bat speed with a short path to the ball and good extension through it. He showed a good approach, hitting the ball where it was thrown and using the middle of the field in the game. He has gap power with the potential for much more as he develops. He has good athleticism and decent speed, running a 4.43 from the right side.

Scouting C.D. Hylton at Battlefield (March 15, 2016)

Jake Agnos, LHP, Battlefield, 2016 (East Carolina)
Agnos has an athletic frame and throws from a three-quarters arm slot with an explosive, drop and drive delivery. His arm action is short and loose and he has a very quick armstroke, generating velocity with some effort. His shoulders are closed and slightly uphill as he strides out to a square landing before coming to an athletic finish as he recoils. Agnos’ fastball has added movement and angle since last fall, as it had some plane and late run to it. He touched 93 once on the day and worked from 90-92 in the first two innings 86-91 over the rest of his outing. He showed good command of the pitch, moving it in and out and pounding the strike zone at will. Agnos’ curveball had 1/7 action to it and ran 77-81. Early in the game the pitch had power break, as the game progressed it began to snap more. He showed the ability to throw it for strikes or out of the zone. Agnos threw one change-up that was 82 with a bit of run. Agnos dominated one of the better lineups he will face this spring, striking out 14 of the first 17 hitters he faced without allowing a baserunner, and ending the game with a 17 strikeout no-hitter while issuing three walks and hitting a batter.

Brandon Austin, 3B, Battlefield, 2017
Austin has a strong lower half and hits from the right side and has simple swing. He is short to the ball and gets good extension through it and has some bat speed. He doubled to deep left center and registered an exit velocity of 97. In the field, Austin has a decent first step and actions at third He has a short arm action and an average arm.

Ryan Billy, RHP, C.D. Hytlon, 2016
Billy is an athletic righty who throws form a low three-quarters arm slot with a smooth drop and drive delivery. He has a long, loose arm action that is quick and generates easy velocity. His shoulders are closed and uphill as he strides out to a square landing before falling off a bit as he finishes. Billy’s fastball was 86-87 from the windup, touching 88, and had heavy arm side run. He threw a fading changeup with decent armspeed that ran 71-75. His slider had big 10/4 break and ran 77-79, he took it 12/6 once at 75. Billy showed good feel for how to pitch and good command.

Brent Boggs, OF, Battlefield, 2017 (VMI)
Boggs has moved to the outfield, where he has good actions and takes good routes to balls. He has an average arm but makes up for it with a quick release. At the plate, Boggs is very short to the ball and maintains good balance throughout his swing. He did not get much extension through the ball but showed the ability to get the barrel on it consistently. He has a line drive swing with the potential to drive the gaps.

Spencer Laitinen, RHP, C.D. Hylton, 2016 (Eastern Mennonite)
Laitinen throws from a submarine slot with a loose arm action that generates velocity with some effort. He is hinged at the waist and his shoulders are level and on line as he strides out to a square landing with an athletic finish. Laitinen’s fastball sat 74-76 with heavy run and sink. He also threw a sweeping slider that sat 64.

Fox Semones, SS/RHP, C.D. Hylton, 2016 (James Madison)
Semones is an athletic infielder that is very quick and he has good range at shortstop. He showed soft hands and a quick release during the game. He has a short arm action and a loose arm that is very strong. Semones should easily be able to stick at shortstop at the next level.

Trey Shepard, RHP, C.D. Hylton, 2016 (Walters State CC)
Shepard is an athletic righty who throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. He has a quick arm and his shoulders are uphill as he strides out to a square landing. Shepard’s fastball had good plane and some run to it. He was 84-85 from the windup and 81-83 from his slide step. He was up for most of the outing, even more so when he was in the stretch. His curveball had sharp 11/5 action and ran 67-72. He showed a slider once that he buried off the plate very well to get a strikeout. The pitch had sharp 10/4 break and was 74.

Tyler Solomon, C, Battlefield, 2017 (Vanderbilt)
Solomon has a tall, projectable, athletic frame and is a switch hitter. He hit exclusively from the left side in this game. He has an athletic stance and takes a big leg kick stride with a smooth load back and a slight wrap. He has an explosive lower half and generates power to all fields. He has a very quick hands and is short to the ball. He has explosive bat speed and gets good extension. He showed a good approach during the game, using the entire field. He has light-tower power to his pull side and gap power to the opposite field with the potential to have home run power to all fields by the time he graduates. Behind the plate, Solomon has a short arm action that is loose and quick and he throws from a three-quarters slot. His arm is strong and he had a 1.97 between inning pop time.

Scouting Dinwiddie at Hanover (March 15, 2016)

Grey Lyttle, RHP, Hanover, 2016 (High Point)
Lyttle had dominant evening, striking out 11 batters and walking none in five innings of work. He threw 57 pitches with 43 for strikes. His fastball held 87-92 throughout his entire outing. 

Seth Mayberry, RHP, Dinwiddie, 2018
Mayberry’s fastball ran 81-84 and he showed a curveball that was 73. Mayberry should some toughness and ability to compete as he worked out of jams in each of the first two innings against a very tough Hanover lineup. 

Cayman Richardson, SS, Hanover, 2016 (Virginia)
Richardson had a good day offensively and his speed and batspeed were on display. He made good contact in his second at bat and got a good jump to steal a base. Later in the game he showed his gap power and willingness to use the whole field, driving a ball to right-center for a ground rule double.

Scouting Millbrook at Rock Ridge (March 10, 2016)

Alex Amos, SS/RHP, Millbrook, 2016 (Pittsburgh)
Amos is an athletic two-way player. At short, he has soft hands and good range. He has a quick release and a strong arm. At the plate, Amos hits from an athletic stance. He has a leg kick stride and a slight load back. He has an explosive lower half and maintains balance throughout his swing. He has quick hands and is very short to the ball with good extension through it. He showed good pitch selection and gap power during the game. On the mound, Amos throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short, quick arm action that generates velocity with some effort. His shoulders are uphill and on line as he strides out to a square landing before coming to an athletic finish. His fastball has decent plane and slight late run and he sat 86-87, touching 88. His curveball had sharp 11/5 break and ran 74-76. He got on the side of one that had more 10/4 bite.

Trent Burgreen, SS, Millbrook, 2016 (Shepherd)
Burgreen is an athletic middle infielder with a lanky frame and some speed. Defensively, he played second base to Amos’ shortstop, but could easily handle short as he has good actions and a decent arm. At the plate, Burgreen hits from an athletic stance with quiet hands and a slight leg kick stride. He has a decent lower half and maintains balance throughout his swing. He has above average bat speed and is short to the ball with a good line drive approach, making a lot of solid contact.

Conor Hartigan, OF, Millbrook, 2017 (Coastal Carolina)
Hartigan is an athletic outfielder who has the potential to be a true five tool player. In the outfield, he gets good jumps on the ball, has good speed, a quick release, and a strong arm. At the plate, Hartigan has an upright athletic stance, a short stride forward and a smooth load back. He has explosive hips and maintains balance throughout his swing. He is a bit longer to the ball but has incredibly fast hands that help him generate bat speed. He gets good extension through the ball and has gap power to all fields with home run power to his pull side and the potential for more as he continues to develop.

Nathan Jaye, RHP, Millbrook, 2017
Jaye is an athletic righthander with an athletic frame who throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a smooth tall and fall delivery. He has a short, free arm action and generates easy velocity. His shoulders are slightly closed and slightly uphill as he strides out to an open landing before coming to an athletic finish. His fastball had some plane and late run to it, sitting 78-80. He threw a sinking change-up with decent armspeed that ran 70 and a big, gradual 11/5 breaking curveball that ran 67.

Austin Murphy, RHP, Millbrook, 2017
Murphy is a lanky righthander that throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a long, loose arm that is quick and generates velocity with some effort. His shoulders are closed and level as he strides out to a slightly closed landing before falling off a bit as he finishes. Murphy’s fastball had heavy run to it and sat 81-83, touching 84 twice. He threw a running change-up with good armspeed that was 73 and flashed a true slider with late 10/4 action that was 78.

Anthony Simonelli, RHP, Millbrook, 2017 (Coastal Carolina)
Simonelli is a lanky righty that throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a smooth delivery. He has a long, loose arm action that is quick and generates easy velocity. His shoulders are closed and level as he strides out to a square landing before falling off and recoiling a bit as he finishes. Simonelli’s fastball has good late run and sink to it, sitting 85-87 for four innings and reaching as high as 89 early in the game. His changeup is outstanding and is thrown with full armspeed and has a ton of sink to it, running 77-79. His breaking ball has 11/5 action and ran 70-72.

Nick Stewart, RHP, Rock Ridge, 2017
Stewart is a tall, athletic righthander that throws from a high three-quarters arm slot. He has a loose arm action and a fast armstroke that generates easy velocity. His shoulders are closed and uphill as he strides out to a slightly closed landing. Stewart’s fastball had good downward plane and some late run and sat 84-86, touching 87 during his two innings of work. He commanded it well, moving it in and out. Stewart’s breaking ball had late, sharp 11/5 break and ran 71-76.

Connor Cozad, 2B, Oakton, 2016 (Catholic)
Cozad is an athletic middle infielder with a strong lower half. In the field he has very good actions and soft hands as well as a lot of range side to side. At the plate, he hits from a slightly open, athletic stance. He has a load straight back into a slight arm bar, creating a longer swing path. He has an explosive lower half and a lot of batspeed with at least gap power. He maintains good balance throughout his swing. 

Justin Garcia, RHP, Oakton, 2016
Garcia is a big righty with a strong lower half who throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a very short, quick arm action. His shoulders are uphill and on line and he lands square before coming to an athletic finish. His fastball was commanded well and has some downward plane and some late run, he sat 82-84 in one inning of work. His slider had sharp 11/5 break and sat 70. 

Nick Karlinchak, LHP/OF, West Springfield, 2017
Karlinchak is an athletic two-way player who hits from the left side. He has decent bat speed and gap power at the plate. On the mound, Karlinchak throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. His arm action is long with a bit of a wrap, and his quick arm generates velocity with easy effort. His shoulders are closed and level as he strides out to a slightly closed landing, creating a classic lefty crossfire delivery before coming to an athletic finish. Karlinchak is an athlete and fields his position well. His fastball has good angle and some late run to it and ran 77-81. He showed a running change-up with was thrown with good armspeed and ran 72-74. Karlinchaks curveball had big, gradual 1/7 break and was 59-64. He showed good command of all three pitches. 

Owen Lamon, RHP, Oakton, 2017
Lamon is an athletic righty with a good frame. He has a drop and drive delivery and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short, loose arm action that is quick, generating velocity with some effort. His shoulders are uphill and closed as he strides out to a slightly closed landing before falling off as he finishes. Lamon’s fastball touched 87 and sat 84-86 with good plane and heavy late run. His curveball had late, sharp 11/5 action and sat 71. 

Khalil Lee, OF/LHP, Flint Hill, 2016 (Liberty)
Lee is an athletic outfielder with a strong lower half that hits from the left side of the plate. He has an open athletic stance and a smooth load back. He has a slightly longer swing path with good extension through the ball and incredible hand and bat speed that make up for any length in his swing. He has an explosive lower half and maintains balance throughout his swing. Lee has power to all fields and the potential to have big power to all fields. In the outfield, he gets good jumps on balls and takes good routes. He has a quick release and a plus arm in center from a high three-quarters arm slot with a long, loose arm action. While he is quick, he is probably more of a corner outfielder in the future and he plays the game faster than he runs. On the mound, Lee throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a smooth tall and fall delivery. He has a long, loose, lightning fast arm action and generates velocity with minimal effort. His shoulders are closed uphill as he strides out on line and finishes in an athletic position. Lee fields his position very well. Lee’s fastball sat 89-90 and touched 91 in his first inning of work. He had very good downward plane on it with late run. In his second inning of work he tailed off a bit to 87-89, and this was after playing five innings in center and making a few throws. He showed very good command of his fastball, moving it in and out, up and down. He also showed a tight, 2/8 breaking slider that had more cutter action and ran 76-79. 

Isaak Lyons, 3B/RHP, West Springfield, 2017
Lyons has an athletic frame and throws from a high three quarters stance with a drop and drive delivery. He has a short arm action and a quick arm stroke that generates velocity with some effort. His shoulders are closed and level and he strides out closed before screwing into a square landing and coming to an athletic finish. His fastball sat 81-83, touching 84, with run and some downward plane to it. His curveball had sharp 11/5 action and ran 69-70. 

Jared Lyons, RHP, West Springfield, 2018
Lyons has an athletic frame and throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a smooth drop and drive delivery. He has a long, loose arm action and a quick arm that generates easy velocity. His shoulders are closed and uphill as he strides out to a square landing before falling off as he finishes. Lyons’ fastball had hard late run to it and sat at 85 for most of his outing. He showed a 12/6 curveball with sharp, late break that ran 74-75. 

Robert Riddick, RHP/1B, Flint Hill, 2016 (Virginia Tech)
Riddick is a big righty with an imposing frame and a strong lower half. He has adjusted his delivery over the winter. He throws from a high three-quarters slot with a drop and drive delivery. He has a long, loose, quick arm action that generates velocity with easy effort. His shoulders are level and slightly closed as he strides out to a square landing before falling off slightly as he finishes. Riddick’s fastball has a ton of downward plane and slight run or cut, depending on what side of the plate it is thrown to. He sat 85-87 and commanded his fastball well the entire outing. He showed his slider more in the second inning. It had late, very tight 10/4 break and ran 76-79. 

Joe Rizzo, 3B, Oakton, 2016 (South Carolina)
Rizzo is an athletic infielder with a strong frame. He hits from an athletic stance and has a leg kick stride with a slight load back and good rhythm. He is very quick to the ball and gets good extension through it. He has an electric lower half and explosive hands, generating elite bat speed and power with minimal effort. He maintains balance throughout his swing and shows a good approach, hitting the ball where it is thrown and using the entire field. Defensively, Rizzo played shortstop and showed soft hands and a good first step. He has a clean transfer and quick release with a strong, accurate arm. He also showed a good feel of how much arm he needed and how quickly the ball had to come out during the scrimmage. Rizzo has average speed, getting down the line in 4.41 and 4.43 from the left side, but he has very good quickness. In his at bat against Lee, he did a good job taking a fastball that was a bit up the other way for a base hit. 

Toma Shigaki-Than, RHP, Oakton, 2017
Shigaki-Than is an athletic right hander that throws from a high three-quarter arm slot with a long, loose, lightning quick arm that allows him to generate velocity with some effort. He has a drop and drive delivery and his shoulders are closed and uphill as he strides out to a square landing before recoiling as he finishes. Shigaki-Than’s fastball sat 84-85 with some plane and a bit of late run. His best pitch is easily his sharp, power, 12/6 breaking curveball that ran 74-77 and is thrown with full armspeed. 

Matthew Stallings, C, West Springfield, 2016 (Virginia Commonwealth)
Stallings has an athletic frame that he could add strength to if he wanted to. He has rare speed for a catcher. Behind the plate, he is very athletic and gets into his blocks quickly. He is a good receiver and presents a good strike to the umpires. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot and has a loose arm that is strong, with a positional velocity of 75 on a throw down between innings. His best pop time between innings was 2.00. At the plate, Stallings hits from an open, upright stance. He has a leg kick stride and a slight load back with good rhythm. He has an explosive lower half and maintains good balance throughout his swing. He is short to the ball and has a slightly uphill swing path, with gap power and a bit of a pull approach. He has quick hands and good bat speed. 

Jake Williams, RHP, West Springfield, 2017
Williams is an athletic righty who throws from a low three quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. He has a short, quick arm action and generates velocity with easy effort. His shoulders are closed and slightly uphill as he strides out to a square landing before falling off a bit as he finishes. Williams’ fastball had heavy run and sink to it and sat 77-79, touching 80. His breaking ball had sharp 10/4 action and was thrown with decent armspeed, running 67-68.

Elliott McKee, LHP, Westfield, 2016
McKee is a big lefty that throws from a sidearm slot with a short, loose arm action. He stays on line and his delivery creates a lot of deception. His fastball has been 80-81 in pre-season workouts with heavy run. His slider has big sweeping action and ran 70-73. His change-up has sinking action and is thrown with good armspeed.

Gary Fuller, RHP, Stone Bridge, 2017
Fuller has an athletic 6-0 frame and throws from a high three-quarters slot. His arm action was loose and his fastball had good plane, sitting 82-83. Fuller’s breaking ball had good bite and 11/5 action.

Patrick Fyvie, LHP, Patriot, 2017
Fyvie has a very lanky frame and long arms and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot. He had a good action and his fastball was up to 76-77. His change-up had good armspeed and action.

Brandon Luke, RHP, Centreville, 2017
Luke has an athletic 6-2 frame and a good arm action. He showed good command of his sinking fastball and it ran 79-82 with good late bite.

James Price, RHP, Patriot, 2017
Price has an athletic frame and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot. He has a clean arm action and creates good downward plane on his fastball. He showed good command of his fastball and good armspeed on his change-up.

Randy Prosperi, RHP, W.T. Woodson, 2017
Prosperi has a projectable 6-4 frame and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot. His fastball has a lot of run and deception. His changeup had sinking action and good armspped. He threw a slider that had good 10/4 action to it.

Nick Stewart, RHP, Rock Ridge, 2017
Stewart has a very tall, lanky frame and long arms. He has a loose, quick arm action that is very clean and generates easy velocity. Stewart gets good downward plane on his fastball and his breaking ball has good bite and 11/5 action.

Toma Shigaki-Than, RHP, Oakton, 2017
Toma is already in mid-season form as his fastball was 84-86 with good action. His arm action was quick and free. He showed command of both of his secondary pitches, an outstanding sharp 12/6 curveball and a sinking change-up that is thrown with good armspeed.

Will Thomas, RHP, Gonzaga, 2017
Thomas has a 6-0 tall, athletic frame and showed good command of all three of his pitches. His fastball had decent life and good velocity this early in the season, running 79-82. His breaking ball had good 10/4 action and he threw his change-up with good armspeed, getting good late action on the pitch.

Wilson Ayers, RHP, Briar Woods, 2018
Ayers has an athletic frame and a decent arm action that generated some zip on his fastball, which ran 76-78.

James Baumstark, RHP, Osbourn Park, 2018
Baumstark stands an athletic 5-11 and has a clean arm action. He showed feel for three pitches, a fastball that sat 77-78, a breaking ball, and a change-up that he threw with good armspeed.

Austin Estridge, RHP, Battlefield, 2018
Estridge stands a lanky 6-5 and throws from a higher three-quarters arm slot. He has a loose arm action and showed good feel for his fastball and change-up, sitting 78-79 with his fastball and 70-71 with his change-up, which was thrown with good armspeed.

Fontana stand an athletic 6-0 tall and has a loose, quick arm action. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot and gets good downward plane on his pitches. His fastball was 76-78.

Jake Michna, RHP, Battlefield, 2018
Michna’s mechanics have improved dramatically during the offseason. He stands a lanky 6-3 and throws from a high-three quarters arm slot with a loose, quick arm. Michna commanded his fastball well with good downward plane, sitting 77-80. His change-up was thrown with good arm action and sat at 72.

Will Schroeder, RHP/MIF, Loudoun County, 2018
Schroeder has a projectable 6-0 frame and throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot. He has a long, very loose arm action that generates easy velocity. Schroeder’s fastball was 80-82 with good late life. His overhand breaking ball had 12/6 action and his slider had good armspeed and bite with 10/4 action.

Jack Weeks, LHP, Herndon, 2018
Weeks has an athletic 6-0 frame and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot. He has a clean arm action and generates easy velocity. His fastball sat 78-81 with good late run to it and he showed a very good breaking ball with sharp 2/8 action to it.

Tommy Wells, RHP/CIF, Forest Park, 2018
Wells is a big kid standing 6-4 with an athletic frame. He throws from a low three-quarters arm slot and has a strong arm, sitting 77-80 with decent action.

Nathan Wright, RHP, Woodgrove, 2018
Wright has an athletic frame and a lighting fast arm action that generates a ton of velocity as he sat right at 80 from his high three-quarters arm slot. His change-up was thrown with good armspeed and sat 73.

Chris Chaney, RHP, St. James (MD), 2019
Chaney has an outstanding arm action and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot. His fastball was 80-82 and he showed good command of it. His breaking ball had sharp 12/6 break.

Cortland Lawson, RHP, Paul VI Catholic, 2019
Lawson has a lanky 6-1 frame and a decent arm action. His fastball sat 78-80 and showed some feel for his change-up.

Tyler Rulapaugh, RHP, West Potomac, 2019
Rulapaugh has an athletic frame and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot. His fastball was 77-79 with decent action and he showed the makings of a good slider.
