Winter Recap: Top Fastball Velocity
March 13, 2018
As the dust (or snow) starts to settle in here in New York, let's take a look back at our two week stretch of events from February 11th through February 25th. Overall we saw 162 pitchers; 50 that eclipsed the 80 MPH mark. Here are the 10 players that registered an 85 MPH or better FB during that time.
89 MPH
Alex Santos RHP / 1B / Mount St. Michael Academy, NY / 20202017 Future Games attendee and Maryland commit did not disappoint sitting 87-89 MPH and showing a sharp, downer CB at 72-74 MPH. The rangy 6-foot-3 184 pound Bronx resident has room to fill out and has his secondary command improves...look out.

88 MPH
Cregg Scherrer LHP / OF / Skaneateles , NY / 2019Scherrer, who committed to University at Albany, shortly after the Preseason-West event put on a show as he worked 86-87, touching an 88 MPH FB. Sharp, cross-zone action with depth to his CB at 72-73 MPH. Consistent 2-3 MPH bump for the southpaw from the Finger Lakes compared to past events.
|
87 MPH
Gage Ziehl 3B / RHP / Penfield, NY / 2021Ziehl, a Rochester area player, had a breakthrough workout at the Preseason-West event. Already on our radar as a dual player who was 80-81 on the mound at past events, came out with a huge velocity bump sitting 82-85, popping an 87 MPH. Tight spin to a 68-70 MPH breaking ball. Can swing it as well.

86 MPH
Owen Parliament RHP / 3B / LaFargeville , NY / 2020The Central NY RHP and 2017 Future Games attendee showed another uptick in velocity sitting 84-85 MPH, touching 86. Flashed a sharp 12-6 CB at 66-68 MPH as well. High waisted frame at 6-foot-0 185 pounds, the 3B can also swing it with a balanced approach
|
Max Luke 3B / RHP / Croton Harmon, NY / 2020Another dual prospect as a LHH third baseman with some serious pull side pop. Luke worked in the 83-84 MPH range before touching off an 86 MPH heater. The Westchester County player also features an 11-5/12-6 CB at 67-68 MPH.
|
85 MPH
Casey Saucke II SS / RHP / Greece Athena, NY / 2021Had one of the better all-around breakout performances. The Rochester area RHP was 88 MPH across the diamond from SS and drives the ball through the middle of the field. Worked in the 83-84 MPH range with an above average change up at 75-76 MPH.
|
Kevin Bowrosen 3B / OF / Miller Place, NY / 2020Another multi-talented player from the 2020 class, the RHP/LHH put on a show in BP with a short-quick stroke with some lift to his pull side. The 3B from Long Island also impressed defensively, with an 87 MPH arm across the infield. Showed a fast arm on the mound working 84-85 MPH, mixing in a 65-67 MPH CB with feel.
|
Christopher Antonelli RHP / 3B / Stepinac, NY / 2020Westchester county RHP/3B with a 6-foot-0 180 pound frame. Projects better on the mound, working downhill from a high 3/4 slot. Sat 82-84 MPH, touching 85 MPH. Sharp late action CB with some slider tendencies at 71-72 MPH.
|
Robert Ray OF / LHP / Bayport Bluepoint, NY / 2018PBR-NY veteran from Long Island continues to improve. Worked 83-85 from the left side and was also 87 MPH from the OF. Will be a great, late addition at the college level for whoever scoops up this uncommitted senior.
|
NOTE:
2018 LHP Michael Esposito (The Gunnery School / CT) is a NY resident. He was 83-85 MPH at the Preseason - Long Island event. Attended unsigned senior event in October and swung it very well; repeatable, fluid effort with line drive-pull side gap results.
