7.75
Infield Velocity
The athlete's maximum throwing velocity from an infield position in the given event year. Measured in miles per hour (MPH).
79.0
Power / Speed Score
A simple calculation that divides the athlete’s Exit Velocity Max by the athlete’s 60 Yard Dash time for the given event year. For example, 98 MPH / 7.00s = 14.00.
Strong body with simple actions, 6-foot-0, 180-pounds. Makes hard contact consistently from a mostly level barrel plane, 89 mph exit velo. More extension as he finishes swing would help his power. Hard contact when he gets everything on time. Defensively, active lower half, glove is out in front, 79 mph arm-strength with carry across the diamond.
Tall, lean body type with typical pitcher look. Steady flow in delivery. High leg lift. Tends to rush towards the target and falls off to glove side. Has potential upside with his frame with more strength. Has some armside run with high 3/4 release point. CB shows late life with downward action and tight spin. Has inconsistent leg drive towards target but shows good use of lower half when engaged. Shows good pitch sequences and mixes in offspeed well. Potential for more velo with strength. (Double to Right CF gap in 3rd inning @ UE)
Preseason Downstate (Feb. 21, 2018)
Stands 6-foot-0, 180-pounds from broad shoulders and a thicker overall build. On the mound there's plenty to like about the 2020 RHP. He uses a quicker pace to his delivery, high knee lift, hands relaxed prior to separation. Clean arm-swing with extension out in front, fastball sat 83-84 mph, touching 85. Curveball has late 71-72 shape, above average pitch. Change up sits 70-72 slowing his arm speed down, would benefit from more aggressive arm-speed. He also throws a splitter that at times had late downward action, tough pitch to master. In the box, uses a compact path, mostly level plane, 85 mph exit velocity. Defensively attacks from the corner position with a wide base, fields away from his body, 81 mph across the diamond. Very good looking young prospect.
Last Chance- Downstate (November 18, 2017) Standing 6-foot-0, 180-pounds with a thick stronger build, runs a 7.3 60 yard dash (6 tenths of a second better than previous) with plenty of time to lower that number more. At the plate he's balanced, bat plane is mostly level through impact with barrel lift on extension, visible fluid bat-speed, exit velo off a tee at 82 mph. Defensively, stays behind the ball, fields slightly deep in his stance, hands work, above average arm strength at 82 mph across the diamond. Pitching, on the mound he's impressive. Simple clean mechanics, speeds up delivery on the down plane, clean arm-swing with his fastball sitting 82-84 mph from a high-3/4 slot. Low 70's curveball that shows 10/4 shape, mid to upper 70's changeup with fade. Overall, Antonelli is on the rise in the 2020 class, especially on the mound.
NY Games (June 25-27, 2017)
6-foot, 165-pound RHP, ran a 7.9/60. Pitching - uses height to get downward plane on fastball at 77-79 MPH, comes out of a ¾ slot, works both sides of plate, changes eye level, throws 2-to-7 curveball at 69-70 MPH down in the zone, maintains motion when mixing pitches, keeps batters off-balance, potential for added velocity is there with maturity. Defensively - balanced footwork, soft hands, smooth and easy transfer to throwing hand, accurate arm at 77 MPH. Offensively - effective load, appropriate pre-pitch movement, quick to the ball with an exit velocity of 82 MPH, scratching the surface of his potential, lower body engagement will help develop a repeatable swing.
Team Citius Workout
Antonelli stands in at 5-foot-11, 162-pounds with a lean athletic frame. Ran a 7.83 – 60. Offensively- The righty starts square to the pitcher with his feet shoulder width apart. Shows a slight knee bend with an upright torso holding his hands just above the back shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch his trigger is a quick stride forward landing on front toe before making the weight shift to transition to getting the foot in place. His hands move back and slightly down getting into a good hitting position. Antonelli shows quick hands getting the barrel into the hitting zone with good upward lift bat action throughout into a high one handed finish. He utilizes whole frame with good lower body rotation on back side that clears the hips prior to making contact. The righty demonstrated smooth and consistent contact covering the whole plate with the ability to drive the ball in the gaps and recorded an exit velocity of 81 MPH. Defensively- Tends to sit back and wait for the ball. He could use more athletic footwork moving towards the baseball to start the process fielding. Gets the ball up into the throwing position quickly with a strong follow through towards his intended target. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 82 MPH. Would like to see more active footwork and continuous movements to and through the ball. Pitching- Starts in the middle of the rubber with a simple side step and a high knee raise above hip crease to get into his power position. From power position brings his lead leg down prior to striding out. Shows good arm action getting into a good throwing position with a good follow through. Mechanics are smooth and keeps his head still on the target throughout the entire process of the delivery. Will improve with more reps and added strength as he continues to develop. Recorded a fastball velocity of 79-80 MPH, curveball 66-67 MPH with some 12-to-6 shape; changeup was 65-68 MPH with some late arm side fade. Has a good feel for all three offerings.
