Flat bat path through the hitting zone. Good use of the lower half through the point of contact. Balanced throughout the swing. Top exit velocity was 89 MPH. Defensively- the infielder displayed sound actions during the infield sessions. Smooth funnel actions. Quick release on throws across the infield. Top throwing velocity was 83 MPH.
8/13/18
Maryland recruit, arm strength and 6-foot-3, 185-pound, athletic frame stand out. Santos came out hot at 88-91 with the fastball creating a downward plane to a fastball that exploded through the bottom of the zone early on. Getting strong drive off his back side, Santos still looks like he will make another velocity jump in the near future. His 11/5 breaking ball showed depth and multi-tier break when at its best, and has a chance to become a swing and miss pitch in the near future. It exhibits tight spin at 73-76, and he shows some feel for it.
2/21/18
Standing 6-foot-3, 185-pounds from a lean strong build, high waist with long levers, more size to come as he matures. On the mound, extremely sound mechanics, slower pace to his delivery. Direction towards home is on the power line, above average hip/shoulder separation, long stride, long back arm action, clean with no restrictions. Fastball jumps from the high 3/4 slot sitting 87-89 with plenty left in the tank, curveball spiked at times sat 69-71, chance to be a swing-and-miss pitch with late 11/6 shape. One of the top pitching prospects in 2020 class. At the plate he shows looseness and rhythm, fluid swing showing some power, 93 mph exit velocity.
8/03/17
The long and lean 6-foot-3 righty with a whippy arm from a high, over the top slot. FB sat 84-85 MPH down in the zone. CB featured 11-to-5 action at 72-73 MPH. Flashed a 78-80 MPH change that held it’s plane. Pitched to contact. 2 IP, 2 K; retired all 6 batters that he faced in order.
3/01/17
Santos has a projectable pitcher's body build at 6-foot-3 170-pounds with long, wiry limbs. One of the top arms from the entire event, even as a 2020. Fastball topped at 85 mph, sat mostly 82-84. Breaking ball had 11/5 shape at 72-74 for strikes and flashed a straight changeup at 74-76. Long loose, and quick arm action. Shows some effort in finish. Athletic balance point, long stride helps him create extension on release. High-3/4 slot, Athletic and controlled finish. High follow prospect.
2/25/17
Long and rangy 6-foot-3 170 pound RHP/SS that ran a 8.38 60. Offensively- Spread setup with hands in the center of the center of the body. Short stride forward as hands work off back shoulder. Slight drag of the barrel through the zone but swings with intent. Flyball/line drive results through the middle of the field. Exit velocity peaked at 86 MPH off the tee. Starting hands further back at the start may free him up and allow for an easier path into the zone. Defensively- Loose athletic actions for his size; stays on the balls of his feet, stays active. Receives ball on or under the body at times; above average left side arm at 87 MPH across the diamond. Corner Infield projection if he continues as a position player. Pitching- Sets up center rubber with a quiet drop step to a neck high balance point; arm action is long with some tilt. Stays direct with stride, landing slightly open before landing. Quick arm that works through a low 3/4 arm slot. Pounds the FB down in the zone at 82-84 MPH, showed a feel for a lateral action CB at 72-73 MPH. Change up had above average deception and fade to his arm side at 75-78 MPH. Big time projectable frame with pre-existing arm speed.
