On Wednesday, June 20, PBR VA/DC hosted its summer Underclass Games at Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg. Over 60 players took the field, representing the Classes of 2020, 2021, and 2022, to showcase their talent in front of PBR staff and the college coaches that were on hand. Today we wrap up our analysis of the event with a look at the hitters.

Kade Abrisz C Menchville 2021
Abrisz is 5-8 with a lankier athletic frame with plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from an open balanced athletic stance, strides on line and short load back. Hips rotate completely with some explosion and maintains some balance during his swing. Short to the ball, keeps hands inside, slightly uphill path, line drive hitter showed a slight pull tendency in his round, potential to grow into doubles power, exit velocity was 76. Behind the plate, quick clean release, gains ground and throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short arm action. Showed some accuracy on his throws, position velocity was 72 and pop times were 1.98-2.04.

Kody Abrisz SS Menchville 2020
Abrisz is 5-8 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from an open slightly upright balanced stance. Short stride on line, minimal load back with a bit of a wrap. Hips rotate completely with some balance to his swing. Very short and quick to the ball keeps hands in tight, some whip to his barrel, good extension through the ball. Slightly uphill path, line drive swing that can get some carry in the gaps, showed good approach working gap to gap, exit velocity was 86. At short, good feet, rounds ball and fields with a good wide base and soft hands. Works through the ball with a quick clean transfer, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, infield velocity was 80.

Trenton Bower 3B Salem (Roanoke) 2021
Bower is 5-8 with an athletic frame that has some strength already and still has some projection left to it. He hits from the left side from an open balanced stance. Short stride on line, short smooth load back, has a quiet relaxed rhythm to his set-up. Explosive lower half and good balance during his swing. Short and quick to the ball, uphill swing path with a pull fly ball approach, has a chance to grow into some power as he gets bigger and stronger, exit velocity was 74. At third, moves feet to get body behind ball, fields with a wider base and average hands. Works through the ball to his exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a shorter arm action, infield velocity was 72.

Hunter Brown 3B Brookville 2020
Brown is 5-11 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance. Strides on line, short load back, explosive lower half with some balance to his swing. Short to the ball with some extension through it, level line drive swing gets a bit uphill when he pulls the ball, exit velocity was 77. At third, gets body behind ball well and fields with average hands. Works through the ball to his exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, infield velocity was 76.

Ryland Brown OF Greenbrier Christian 2020
Brown is 6-2 with an athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a wide balanced stance, short stride on line minimal load back. His rotate completely with some explosion and some balance during his swing. Very short and quick to the ball, whippy through contact with extension, swing is slightly uphill and he has the potential to drive ball to all fields, showed a slight pull preference in his round but showed ability to use whole field, exit velocity was 93. In the outfield, gets body behind ball and fields it while playing through, fields with average hands. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a shorter arm action, outfield velocity was 82. Speed is a tool, ran a 4.19 home to first.

Noah Burtner 1B Spotswood 2022
Burtner is 5-7 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open athletic stance, short leg kick stride on line and loads down and back, hips rotate completely with some explosion. Uphill swing path with extension through contact, line drive hitter with a slight pull preference, exit velocity was 74. At first, get body behind ball and fields with average hands. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a free arm action, infield velocity was 68.

Grayson Bush SS Monticello 2020
Bush is 5-10 with a lankier athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance. Strides on line, smooth load back, has some rhythm to his swing, hips rotate completely with some explosion and some balance to his swing. Hands are short to the ball, barrel has some whip and gets good extension through ball, level to slightly uphill swing path, line drive swing that generates carry in gaps. Showed a good approach, working primarily gap to gap, exit velocity was 81. At short, quick feet, works around ball well and fields with a good wide base and soft hands. Plays through ball to a quick clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a free looser arm action, infield velocity was 79.

Joshua (JT) Carter C Bishop O’Connell 2021
Carter is 5-11 with an athletic frame and a strong lower half, some projection left to his mature frame as he gets a bit taller. He hits from the right side, from a balanced slightly open athletic stance, short leg kick stride in place, smooth load back with some rhythm to his set-up. Gets some hip rotation but maintains very good balance and a firm base during his swing. Shorter path to the ball, slightly uphill path with extension through the ball, very strong at contact, line drive swing now that worked gap to gap, projects to have power to all fields as he continues to get stronger and tap into it more, exit velocity was 89. Behind the plate, quick clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, showed some accuracy on throw downs. Catcher velocity was 76 and pop times were 1.97-2.08.

Addison Clark 3B Carlisle 2021
Clark is 6-3 with a lankier athletic frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, short stride on line, smooth load down and back, quiet rhythm to his set-up. Hips fire explosively and he maintains good balance during his swing. Keeps hands inside and shorter path to the ball, mostly level swing path gets a bit uphill when he pulls ball, gets extension. Line drive hitter now showed good approach working gap to gap, has potential to develop more power as he adds strength, exit velocity was 88. At third, clean quiet feet, works around ball efficiently, fields with a good wide base and soft hands. Plays through the ball, clean exchange. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, infield velocity was 78. Has speed, ran a 4.33 home to first.

Jonathan Compton C Gate City 2020
Compton is 5-11 with an athletic frame that is mature but still has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced slightly open stance, short stride on line, smooth load back, hips rotate completely and can get explosive, good balance during swing. Short, slightly uphill swing path, gets extension through the ball, very strong at contact, bat gets some whip too. Showed pull preference, has easy extra base power to all fields now with the potential to have home run power to all fields, exit velocity was 95. Behind plate, quick clean exchange, throws from high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, showed accuracy on his throws, preferring to put a long one-hop on the bag. Catcher velocity was 75, pop times were 1.98-2.14. Showed athleticism to play outfield as well, arm plays up there, with his outfield velocity at 84.

Chase Davis 2B Brookville 2020
Davis is 5-10 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly closed balanced athletic stance. Strides on line, smooth load back, some rhythm to his swing. Hips rotate completely with some explosion and he maintains some balance during his swing. Short swing, slightly uphill path, line drive swing right now, showed good approach working gap to gap, exit velocity was 78. At short, quiet quick feet, rounds ball and fields with a good wide base and soft hands. Works through the ball to a clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short loose arm action, infield velocity was 81. Showed athleticism in the outfield, high three-quarters arm slot with some carry, outfield velocity was 85. Ran a 4.48 home to first.

Jesus Del Valle SS TC Williams 2021
Del Valle is 6-0 and has a lanky frame with a lot of projection left to it, he hits from the right side from an open athletic stance. Strides on line, loads back, good rhythm to his swing, hips rotate completely with some explosiveness and he maintains good balance and a firm base after hip rotation. Short to the ball, works uphill through contact, showed a pull preference, keeps hands inside well, exit velocity was 79. At short, gets body behind ball and fields with a good wide base and soft hands. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a loose arm action, infield velocity was 77.

Bryce Dolby 3B/RHP Paul VI Catholic 2022
Dolby is 6-3 with a very lanky frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, minimal stride, smooth load back with some wrap to his bat. Explosive hips get full rotation, some balance to his swing. Uphill swing path with some batspeed and some whip, gets extension through the ball, showed a pull approach, has a chance to grow into some real power, exit velocity was 83. At short, quick clean feet, rounds ball well and fields with a good wide base and soft hands. Works through exchange and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a loose arm action, infield velocity was 78.

Clark Driscoll SS/RHP Clover Hill 2022
Driscoll is 5-6 with an athletic frame, he hits from the right side from an upright open stance. Short leg kick stride on line, smooth load back, has some rhythm to his swing. Explosive hips and good balance during his swing. Short to ball, slightly uphill path line drive swing with extension through the ball, showed good approach using whole field, swing sets up to generate some power in the future to pull side, exit velocity was 78. At short, quick feet, fields ball with above average hands, quick clean exchange. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short loose arm action, infield velocity was 75.

Leighton Dunford RHP/2B Fort Chiswell 2020
Dunford is 5-10 with a strong lower half, he hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, minimal stride on line, smooth load down and back, has some rhythm. Hips rotate and he has good balance during his swing. Short to the ball, level line drive swing with some extension through the ball, showed good approach working gap to gap, has some strength at contact, exit velocity was 80. Eddie Eisert SS Bishop O’Connell 2020
Eisert is 6-2, he has an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He is a switch hitter, from the left side starts from an open upright stance, short leg kick stride on line, has rhythm. Keeps hands inside, short to ball with extension to his swing and some whip in his barrel, showed good approach working middle of field, exit velocity was 92. From the right side, stance is still open and a bit more athletic, very short swing with a quick bat, level to slightly uphill with a lot of extension through contact and a whippy bat, exit velocity was 93. Chance to have easy doubles power to all fields from both sides, showed barrel awareness. At short, clean feet, rounds ball and fields with above average hands and a good wide base. Works through the ball, clean exchange, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a loose quick arm, infield velocity was 87. Ran a 4.48 home to first.

Connor Furhman SS/RHP Lord Botetourt 2022
Furhman is 5-11 with an athletic frame that still has projection left to it. He hits from the right side from an open upright balanced stance, leg kick stride on line, short load back, good rhythm to his swing. Explosive lower half and good balance, full hip rotation. Very short to ball, level line drive swing, strong at contact with some whippy extension, showed good approach working gap to gap, doubles power already present with chance for more, exit velocity was 90. Eddie Gimbel OF/RHP Highland School 2020
Gimbel is 6-0 with a lankier athletic frame that still has projection to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open athletic stance, strides on line, smooth short load back, some rhythm to his set-up. Hips rotate with some explosion, has some balance to swing as well. Keeps hands inside, short to ball, slightly uphill line drive swing, showed good approach, primarily working gap to gap, swing sets up well to shoot the gaps, exit velocity was 82. In the outfield, good feet, gets behind ball and plays through it well, fielding with above average hands. Zachary Gonzalez 1B West Point 2020
Gonzalez is 5-11 with a filled out athletic frame, he hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, short stride on line, loads back to a wrap. Hips rotate completely with some explosion, maintains some balance during his swing. Short to ball, uphill swing path with a pull approach, strong at contact with extension through the ball, exit velocity was 92. At first base, gets body behind ball and fields with average hands. Reagan Harris C Christiansburg 2021

Luke Keister SS Spotswood 2022
Keister is 5-5 with an athletic frame that offers projection as he continues to grow and fill out. Ethan Ketron LHP/OF Abingdon 2021
Ketron is 6-2 with a lanky frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He hits from the left side from a leaned back open athletic stance. Brayden Simpson 2B Cosby 2022

Short to ball, slightly uphill path, line drive swing, showed good approach working gap to gap, exit velocity was 80. Quincy Sippio OF Prince George 2020
Sippio is 5-11 with a lankier athletic frame that has plenty of projection left.
