Session I of the Maryland Preseason All-State featured close to 70 players from across the Old Line State and Delaware. Players were put through a pro-style workout and threw bullpens in front of our PBR Maryland staff with TrackMan and Blast on hand to capture additional data throughout the event. Below are evaluations on the 26 pitchers at the event.

Ben Berger LHP / OF / Sherwood , MD / 2023
Body: 5’10”, 170 pounds. Durable, well proportioned frame. Delivery: Quick pace, side rocker step into a traditional leg lift at belt height, athletic move down the rubber with repeatability on the land. Arm Action: LH. Short takeaway into a high ¾ slot with a small arm circle FB: T78 mph, 74-78 mph. Average spin rate of 1790 rpm. Lived down in the zone with arm-side run present; moved it to both sides of the plate. CB: 62-63 mph. Average spin rate of 1695 rpm. More bite than depth to it, low spin but late shape across the plate. CH: 65-67 mph. Was able to efficiently kill spin (818 average rpms) while holding velocity. Created some deception with very minor tumbling shape. SL: 64-65 mph. Average spin rate of 1850 rpm. Primary out pitch with late horizontal action away from RHH.

Evan Bouldin SS / 2B / Appoquinimink (DE), MD / 2022
Body: 6’1”, 190 pounds. Strong, athletic frame. Delivery: Started off the left side of the rubber with a side rocker, athletic delivery showing adequate pace; got to a controlled, low stack position and worked well down the rubber getting on top of batters with good extension at the land. Arm Action: RH. Power, high ¾ slot with fluidity present. FB: T82 mph, 80-82 mph. Average spin rate of 1947 rpm. Arm side run creating heaviness down in the zone. Lived around the knees with confidence going up when he needed to change eye levels. CB: 61-61 mph. Average spin rate of 1973 rpm. Two-plane shape with a slow slurve look at times; projects to get swing and misses in game action. CH: 70-71 mph. Good sell with occasional minor fade to it; held posture well on the release.

Joshua Boyd RHP / 3B / Chesapeake , MD / 2023
Body: 6’0”, 190 pounds. Strong, durable frame on the bump. Delivery: Quick pace to the delivery starting off the middle of the rubber; straight back rocker step into a slight hip coiled stack with the ribs tucked in, explosive move out of hand break with a quick arm hiding the baseball and coming through a moderate, high ¾ slot. Arm Action: RH. Moderate, high ¾ slot / quick arm speed and minimal restrictions on the takeaway, efficient. FB: T79 mph, 77-78 mph. Average spin rate of 1817 rpm. Played better down in the zone with arm-side run to the inside on a RHH. CB: 57-63 mph. Average spin rate of 1645 rpm. Slow-breaking with plenty of horizontal movement across the plate. Will be more deceptive with additional velocity. SL: 66-70 mph. Average spin rate of 1896 rpm. True out pitch with up to 16 inches of horizontal movement away from a RHH. Finished with intent and held the same arm speed as the FB.

Rob Carpenter OF / RHP / Thomas Wootton , MD / 2022
Body: 6’3”, 185 pounds. High-waisted, projectable frame with athleticism. Delivery: Worked from the stretch only; slow, energy building leg lift to the belt loop and then exploded down the mound. Good direction towards the target with the ability to lull hitters to sleep and then jump on them with pace. Arm Action: RH. Athletic, high intent, high ¾ slot from a standard 5 and a half foot release height. FB: T84 mph, 79-83 mph. Average spin rate of 1839 rpm. Significant arm side run on occasion (18 inches of horizontal movement) with late life into RHH hands. Can live off the arm side of the plate with confidence. CB: 69-70 mph. Average spin rate of 2173 rpm. Hard, rolling shape with strikeout projection as he continues refinement. 7 inches of horizontal movement on average with depth too.

Dean Carr SS / RHP / Franklin, MD / 2022
Body: 5’10”, 180 pounds. Strong, athletic frame. Delivery: Worked from the stretch-only primarily with quick pace down the mound towards the plate, landed with repeatability in the mechanics and held direction. Arm Action: RH. High ¾ slot with minimal restrictions in the arm circle. FB: T77 mph, 74-75 mph. Average spin rate of 1654 rpm. Heavy fastball that featured arm side run down in the zone (40% zone rate via Trackman); ability to get groundballs, missing under barrels. CB: 67-69 mph. Average spin rate of 1588 rpm. Developing shape with more horizontal movement than depth to it on this date; feel for the release point. CH: 71-75 mph. Command present with up to 12 inches of fade to the arm side; 50% zone rate via Trackman.

Nathan Clarke RHP / 2B / Severna Park , MD / 2023
Body: 5’9”, 145 pounds. Lean, athletic frame with a wiry build. Delivery: Quick pace with a short side rocker into the leg lift at slightly above belt height (hip coil present); fast move out of the stack with good connection at release. Arm Action: RH. High ¾ slot with the same arm speed on all pitches creating some deception. FB: T78 mph, 73-77 mph. Average spin rate of 1882 rpm. Moderate life when working both sides of the plate with a minor, heavy feel to it. CB: 64-65 mph. Average spin rate of 2123 rpm. Really sharp pitch that will get outs on the bump; hard horizontal break across the plate (20.4 inches on average via Trackman). CH: 71-72 mph. Killed spin (1400 rpm average) with impressive sell on the release, saw significant depth with down action. SL: 69-70 mph. Average spin rate of 1330 rpm. Developing shape, struggled to repeat on this date.

Cayden Curry RHP / 3B / Kent Island , MD / 2023
Body: 6’0”, 165 pounds. Athletic frame with feel for his body. Delivery: Started from the left side of the rubber with a short side rocker into a medium leg lift at the top of the stack; slight pause and worked down the mound with good pace and balance distributed between the backside and front plant leg. Arm Action: RH. High ¾ slot with solid tempo to it; full arm circle, no restrictions. FB: 79 mph, 76-79 mph. Average spin rate of 2029 rpm. Slight arm side fade with good command to either side of the plate; repeated well. CB: 67-69 mph. Average spin rate of 2104 rpm. Consistent horizontal shape across the plate (9+ inches of HM per Trackman Baseball). Main out pitch. CH: 76-77 mph. 1780 average spin with developing shape to it, command was average on this date. SL: 72-76 mph. Average spin rate of 2179 rpm. Great command for a “get me over” type in the arsenal; less shape than the CB but significantly more velocity. 66% zone rate during his pen.

Michael Demske RHP / 1B / Winston Churchill, MD / 2023
Body: 6’2”, 180 pounds. Athletic, projectable frame with efficient proportions. Delivery: Worked with solid pace; side rocker into a medium leg lift with slight hip coil, repeatable move down the mound with connection in the lower / upper halves. Arm Action: RH. High ¾ borderline over the top slot with quality command on his pitches. FB: T82 mph, 79-82 mph. Average spin rate of 2081 rpm. Moved it in and out on the plate with a 40% zone rate via Trackman Baseball; interesting IVB numbers (17.8 average / 21.4 max) pointing towards possible success up in the zone on occasion. CB: 69-73 mph. Average spin rate of 2063 rpm. 100% zone rate (easy command) with consistent two-plane shape across the plate for swing and miss; significant shape when looking at the advanced data: -13.7 IVB / 18.5 HM on average via Trackman Baseball (depth / bite).

Body: 6’3”, 180 pounds. Projectable, athletic frame with long levers. Delivery: Quick pace to the windup with a fast side rocker immediately into a leg lift at waist height; early hand break with hip coil present, slightly leaning into the backside drive leg before firing from a connected position. Good hip shoulder separation on the way through creating jump on the fastball. Arm Action: RH. High ¾ slot with solid extension on the release; FB looks extra quick to the plate. FB: T83 mph, 79-83 mph. Average spin rate of 2107 rpm. 64% zone rate while flashing increased play up in the zone (19.7 IVB average). Up to around 7 feet of max extension too (6.82 average). CB: 64-69 mph. Average spin rate of 2341 rpm. Tight horizontal shape with present depth as well. True swing and miss pitch thrown at just the right speed off the FB. Great arm speed allowing for quality sell. CH: 73-74 mph. Up to 18 inches of horizontal movement creating fade to the arm side with occasional depth. Good feel for all three in the arsenal.

Jacob Holler RHP / OF / Boonsboro, MD / 2022
Body: 6’1”, 155 pounds. Lean, projectable frame. Delivery: Adequate pace to the delivery working from a short side rocker into a high leg-lift above the waist; progressive momentum in the forward move out towards the plate as the hands used a high break position to gain extra length in the arm circle. Arm Action: RH. Lengthy, high ¾ slot with minimal restrictions. FB: T78 mph, 76-78 mph. Average spin rate of 1887 rpm. Lived down in the zone with slight heavy feel to the fastball; up to 14 inches of HM. CB: 60-63 mph. Average spin rate of 1910 rpm. Pretty similar shape moving across the plate (HM) and with depth at the same rate (12.7 average HM, -10.7 IVB). CH: 65-68 mph.

Randy Johnson Jr RHP / OF / Calvert hall, MD / 2024
Body: 6’1”, 175 pounds. Strong, projectable frame with athleticism present. Delivery: Shallow side rocker into a slightly high leg lift at the top of the stack; adequate pace in the delivery with timing varying on occasion. Arm Action: RH. Over the top with adequate repeatability on the arm stroke, moderate arm circle. FB: T75 mph, 72-74 mph. Average spin rate of 1922 rpm. Played down in the zone from a 6.29 foot average release height. CB: 63-67 mph. Average spin rate of 1903 rpm. 33% zone rate with more horizontal bite than depth to it. Ability to refine it into a solid pitch in the future. CH: 68-69 mph. SL: 66-67 mph. Average spin rate of 2183 rpm. More break than the CB with better feel at release; consistent shape (18.5 inches of horizontal movement on average).

Body: 6’1”, 240 pounds. XL frame with an imposing look on the bump. Delivery: Side rocker step into a medium leg lift at the top of the stack, slight lean back through the heels before moving down over the front side on the mound. Adequate pace to the delivery. Arm Action: RH. Short, over the top arm action with a small arm circle. FB: T76 mph, 73-76 mph. Average spin rate of 1644 rpm. Pitches worked better down in the zone with additional command to both sides of the plate (100% zone rate). CB: 67-69 mph. Average spin rate of 1431 rpm. Developing shape with sometimes inconsistent release. CH: 63-64 mph.

Noland Kinna RHP / 1B / Catoctin, MD / 2022
Body: 6’2”, 205 pounds. Large, strong frame. Delivery: Worked out of the stretch only with a slow paced delivery at the top of the stack before dropping down to the side with crossfire. Arm Action: RH. Side-arm release with feel for slightly changing arm angles at times. FB: T75 mph, 70-73 mph. Average spin rate of 1788 rpm. Arm-side run and slight sink on occasion, held the arm side corner. SL: 61-66 mph. Average spin rate of 1510 rpm. Developing shape with bullet spin at the moment.

Connor Klebrowski RHP / OF / Loyola Blakefield, MD / 2022
Body: 6’2”, 190 pounds. Lanky, athletic, and projectable frame with feel for his body. Delivery: Builds momentum throughout a moderate paced delivery with a fast move down the mound. Arm Action: RH. Explosive, high ¾ slot with quickness on the way through. FB: T84 mph, 82-84 mph. Average spin rate of 1963 rpm. Loves to live down in the zone, which played with heaviness due to low-spin numbers. CB: 72-73 mph. Average spin rate of 2028 rpm. Sharp horizontal break with wipeout ability on occasion (22.1 inches of HM max). Competes in the zone with confidence. CH: 73-77 mph. 10.2 inches of HM on average, tunnels well with fastball. SPL: 74-78 mph. Diving action with a 977 average spin and 50% zone rate; solid offering.

Griffin Madden 1B / RHP / Allegany, MD / 2023
Body: 6’2”, 185 pounds. Athletic, strong build with projectability. Delivery: Starts at a 45 degree angle towards the plate from the left side of the rubber; side rocker step into a high leg kick with some hip coil at the top of the stack, worked down the mound with intent and good extension through the backside leg drive. Arm Action: RH. Full arm circle from a high ¾ slot with no restrictions. More velocity in there. FB: T82 mph, 80-81 mph. Average spin rate of 1902 rpm. Better play down in the zone with 10.5 inches of horizontal movement on average (Trackman Baseball). CH: 73-74 mph. SL: 69-75 mph. Average spin rate of 2286 rpm. Held the zone at a 50% rate with up to 15.3 inches of HM across the plate.

Oliver Martin C / RHP / Clarksburg, MD / 2023
Body: 6’1”, 207 pounds. Strong, durable frame with a powerful lower half. Delivery: Started from the stretch only off of the left side of the rubber; the left foot started slightly offset to the open side; utilized a medium-high leg lift and repeatable move down the rubber. Arm Action: RH. High ¾ slot with a medium, short arm circle on the way through. FB: T80 mph, 75-78 mph. Average spin rate of 1998 rpm. Low IVB numbers paired with the spin point to better action down in the zone where he will miss under barrels. CB: 67-70 mph. Average spin rate of 2035 rpm. Sharp 11/5 action diving across the plate late in the ball flight. Feel for the release out in front, possible strikeout pitch moving forward. CH: 74-75 mph.

Body: 6’4”, 215 pounds. Physical frame in an XL build with durability throughout. Delivery: Started from the dead center of the rubber with a side rocker step working up towards a medium leg lift, noticeable hip coil in rhythm with an early hand-break to hide the ball behind the hip. Quick move down the mound getting out over the front side into an athletic finish. Repeated the landing position well. Arm Action: RH. High ¾ slot with no restrictions on a moderate arm circle. FB: T77 mph, 76-77 mph. Low IVB numbers (15.3 inches of induced vertical break) coupled with 1607 average rpms point to the ability to live low in the zone with success. CB: 63-65 mph. Average spin rate of 1754 rpm. Big sweeper over the plate with hard horizontal bite (18+ inches of horizontal movement per Trackman). CH: 72-74 mph.

Josh Reinhold SS / RHP / Cape Henlopen (DE), MD / 2022
Body: 6’0”, 170 pounds. Lean, uber-athletic frame with projection present. Delivery: Rhythmic actions with a side rocker into a medium leg lift with a slight gather pause at the top, moved down the mound quickly and explosively with good backside leg-drive and reach out towards the plate. Solid landing spot in-line to the target with ability to repeat, adequate pace throughout the delivery. Arm Action: RH. High ¾ slot with athleticism in the arm circle, no restrictions. FB: T84 mph, 82-84 mph. Average spin rate of 2110 rpm. Some life out of the hand exploding into the zone at an 83% strike rate; registered an average IVB of 20.3 inches, which points to riding life above the letters and great success blowing the fastball by hitters. CH: 75-77 mph. Killed spin effectively (1205 rpm average) and saw an average of 9 inches of HM of fade to the arm side. SL: 70-71 mph. Average spin rate of 1926 rpm. Held around 10+ inches of movement across the plate with consistent feel on release points.

Nathan Rosner LHP / OF / Landon , MD / 2023
Body: 6’0”, 175 pounds. Athletic build with some strength present. Delivery: Short side rocker with above-average pace to the delivery; started slightly off the left side of the rubber, medium leg lift that held direction well (slight pause) before following his front side shoulder down to finish the pitch out in front with good success. Arm Action: LH. High ¾ slot with a quick, moderate arm circle. FB: T80 mph, 78-80 mph. Average spin rate of 2014 rpm. Sneaky velo at times while hiding the ball well til the last second. The FB played in and out with occasional jump out of the hand (20.4 inches of average IVB). CB: 65-67 mph. Average spin rate of 2220 rpm. Up to 20.4 inches of HM across the plate; big time bite with 1/7 shape. CH: 70-72 mph. Killed spin while effectively holding the zone at a 40% clip. Solid third offering that can continue refinement.

Gabriel Ruiz OF / C / Paint Branch, MD / 2023
Body: 6’1”, 175 pounds. Quality athlete with a high-waisted frame. Delivery: Started off the left side of the rubber showing a methodical side rocker into a medium leg lift with deep hip coil around the backside; held direction well with a solid straight line drive down the rubber with a straight up and down finish on his pitches. Arm Action: RH. High ¾ slot with repeatability in the arm action. FB: T80 mph, 77-79 mph. Average spin rate of 1876 rpm. Better play down with an average of 17.6 inches of IVB (below-average). Has a slightly heavy feel to it, though it is mostly straight at the moment (4.7 inches of HM). CB: 67-70 mph. Average spin rate of 1559 rpm. Developing pitch with the shape there already (16 inches of HM); held the zone at a 25% clip with average command on it.

Leo Simpson 3B / RHP / Walter Johnson, MD / 2023
Body: 5’10”, 175 pounds. Athletic, lean frame with room to add strength yet. Delivery: Slow front rocker into a medium leg lift with the shoulders showing coil over the right side. Unleashed the upper half following the hips upon footstrike allowing for repeatability and a fast move down the rubber. Athletic, loose finish out in front with the AA. Arm Action: RH/LH. High, ¾ slot with quickness on the release. FB: T88 mph, 86-87 mph. Average spin rate of 2448 rpm. Extra jump at times to the plate with ability to move the FB to a bunch of different zones. CB: 72-75 mph. Average spin rate of 2827 rpm. Tight breaker (11/5 shape) with wipeout depth to it (-18.5 inches of IVB per Trackman). A true out pitch moving forward thrown with a ton of confidence. CH: 80-81 mph. Developing offering with good extension out in front (6.29 feet of extension).

Camryn Sisson LHP / OF / Chesapeake , MD / 2024
Body: 5’9”, 170 pounds. Durable, strong frame with room to keep adding strength. Delivery: Windup progressively gains steam and pace throughout, short side rocker into a medium leg lift with good balance, athletic move down the mound to get out in front on the finish with good bend on the release. Arm Action: LH. ¾ slot with some quickness on the way through. FB: T78 mph, 75-78 mph. Average spin rate of 1879 rpm. Arm side run present with increased effectiveness playing down at the knees. CB: 66-68 mph. Average spin rate of 1940 rpm. 1/7 shape and solid feel for the release point with an average of 11.2 inches of HM via Trackman. CH: 68-71 mph. Killed spin (900+ average rpms) with ability to see some arm side fade (11.4 inches of HM).

Evan Weaver C / RHP / Boonsboro , MD / 2022
Body: 5’11”, 176 pounds. Lean, athletic build with strength packed on. Delivery: Athletic delivery from the right side of the rubber, short side rocker into a controlled, narrow stack position working explosively with intent towards the plate from hand break. Solid direction with the body unfolding at the right time around the arm. Connected actions on the bump with a loose finish over the front side. Arm Action: RH. High ¾ slot with plenty of quickness out of the hand. FB: T82 mph, 79-81 mph. Average spin rate of 1966 rpm. Good extension with a 46% zone rate pointing towards ability to move it in and out early in counts and get on top of some hitters. CB: 66-68 mph. Average spin rate of 1920 rpm. Solid two plane shape with ability to spin it across the plate with repeatability; out pitch. CH: 73-79 mph. Developing. SL: 70-71 mph. Average spin rate of 2053 rpm. Third best offering, slight gradual bite across the plate.

Shane Welsh RHP / 3B / Fort Hill, MD / 2023
Body: 5’10”, 180 pounds. Strong, durable frame with good feel of the lower half. Delivery: Started off the left side of the rubber showing off a short side rocker into a medium leg lift with hip coil; good extension and leg drive to a straight-line, wide base position out towards the plate. Athletic finish over the toes. Arm Action: RH. High ¾ / OTT slot with repeatability in the arm. FB: T79 mph, 77-79 mph. Average spin rate of 2020 rpm. Mostly flat fastball with good IVB numbers allowing for ride (21.1 inches on average). CB: 67-69 mph. Average spin rate of 2220 rpm. 25% zone rate with hard break across the plate (12 inches of HM on average). Feel for spin on the off-speed. KN: 67-68 mph. Occasional feel, mostly tumbling action.

Jacob Whiteman RHP / 3B / North East, MD / 2022
Body: 6’3”, 190 pounds. Projectable, athletic frame with feel present. Delivery: Worked out of the stretch-only primarily, while holding the backside well throughout the delivery, maintained hip coil on the forward move allowing for an explosive finish out in front with good extension (6.16 feet on average). Arm Action: RH. High ¾ slot with a quick arm and full arm circle. FB: T87 mph, 86-87 mph. Average spin rate of 1989 rpm. Really good life to it playing with slight ASR 11+ inches of HM on average. Moved it around the plate. CB: 71-76 mph. Average spin rate of 2330 rpm. Developing offering with short action on this date; held the zone at a 25% clip. CH: 75-77 mph. 100% zone rate with extra extension and sell to it. Perfect pairing with the FB showing similar arm speeds. An offering that could be used primarily in the arsenal to throw hitters off.

Brendan Yagesh LHP / 1B / Urbana, MD / 2022
Body: 6’2”, 187 pounds. Large, projectable build with some strength present. Delivery: Started tall in the middle of the rubber showing a short side rocker into a high, funky leg lift; quick pace throughout with hip coil throughout; showed the ability to hide the baseball on his hip til late in the arm action. Athletic finish out in front with plenty of extension on the finish towards the target. Arm Action: LH. Whippy, high ¾ slot with some leverage. FB: T82 mph, 80-82 mph. Average spin rate of 1997 rpm. Played down and up and times with interesting IVB numbers (20+ inches on average). Could pound the zone early on any part of the plate. CB: 65-66 mph. Average spin rate of 2009 rpm. Tight 1/7 shape with increased depth to it (-13.3 inches of IVB) with swing and miss consistencies. CH: 72-73 mph. Killed spin but mostly straight at the moment, held the zone at a 33% clip. Adequate third offering with room to move more to the arm side.
