Final Class of 2019 Rankings
May 23, 2019
The 2019 season is coming to an end and the 2019 MLB Draft is quickly approaching. That means this will be our last update to the Class of 2019 rankings. Not much has changed since our last update. The names in the Top-10 remain the same, although their order is ever so slightly different. Each of these prospects have been under heavy scrutiny this spring with millions of dollars on the line for potential first round draft picks. Let’s take a look at the Top-10 prospects from the Class of 2019.
OF/1B Riley Greene (Hagerty; Florida) will end his prep career as the top ranked player in Florida. The left-handed hitter is only one of two prospects in our Top-10 to spend his entire high school career as a top-10 prospects in state (from first rankings to last rankings). Greene’s bat is, and always will be, his calling card and he has never disappointed with it. At 6-foot-3, 190-pounds, Greene possesses an athletic build with strong throughout. His advanced bat will no doubt be the reason why he sees his name called in the Top-10 of the upcoming 2019 MLB Draft
Coming in at No. 2 is the lone mover in our Top 10, RHP Matt Allan (Seminole; Florida). Allan has moved up in our rankings partly because of his dominant mid-90s fastball and a plus curve that leaves opposing hitters knees buckling. With his stock rising fast, Allan very may well hear his name called in the Top-10 alongside Greene. There is not much to dislike about him, given the arsenal, arm action and prototypical starter’s frame.
The rest of the Top-10 remains the same. RHP Brennan Malone (IMG Academy; North Carolina) is another flamethrower with first round stuff, similar to Allan. Then comes the second prospect in our Top-10 who debuted and ends his career as a top 10 prospect, LHP Hunter Barco (Bolles; Florida). Barco is one of the most interesting prospects in the class with his ability to pitch and long, lanky 6-foot-5 frame. Both Malone and Barco spent time as No. 1 prospects in the state and for good reason.
Rounding out the Top 5 is UTL Tyler Callihan (Providence; South Carolina). Callihan was one of the most feared bats in the state this season with his easy left-handed stroke. A jack-of-all-trades, Callihan spent time at all spots on the infield in addition to providing services on the mound and behind the dish. Where he will play at the next level still remains to be seen, but his performance offensively this spring has him trending as a first round draft pick in June.
