2022 MLB Draft: His raw stuff doesn't jump off the page, but the lefty checks boxes for generating whiffs with his fastball. His above average spin rate (2325 rpm) creates plus movement, and above average Hop and Rise is generated from the unique ability to create more backspin than side spin. Velocity (89-93) with these pitch characteristics makes matching the plane of the pitch extremely tough for hitters. Hubbart also uses his elite curveball and slider spin rates (2700-2900 rpm) to manipulate movement vertically and horizontally, keeping hitters off balance and getting them to chase. His slider sits 79-81 mph with sharp, sweeping action while the curve works 74-76 mph with good depth. Listed at 6-foot-1 with a medium build, an athletic delivery and easy arm action, he shows excellent feel for his arsenal and works quickly and aggressively with confidence and poise. After a strong 2022 season in which he posted eight wins and a 3.32 ERA with 96 strikeouts in 76 IP, Hubbart now looks the part of an early Day Two selection.

After dominating the Cape Cod League last summer with a 0.71 WHIP, .135 BAA, and 13.06 SO/9, Hubbart continues to build momentum towards the top round. His five inning, 13 strikeout performance against JMU further solidified an ever-improving draft resume. Currently, Hubbart looks the part of a mid-second rounder or supplemental pick and could continue to grow his stock as he builds off his incredible summer and eye-popping opening weekend performance.

Started his summer with an inauspicious first game for Brewster in which he allowed three runs in four innings against a talented Bourne lineup. That was the last time a team would score an earned run off the FSU lefty on the Cape, though Cotuit would sneak across a single unearned run in our look. Hubbart’s season line was video game-esque, with a 0.71 WHIP, .135 BAA, 13.06 SO/9 and 5.63 SO/BB (with over a quarter of his hits and walks coming in that rough first start against). The lefty saw a nice uptick in velo this summer, working 89-91 mph in our look (word from evaluators on hand had him touching 93 mph in earlier starts this summer) after showing more mid-to-upper-80s heat in our looks this past spring. Despite the fringe-average pure velo, the pitch comes with big ride and plays way up thanks to the effectiveness of his two breaking balls and ability to pitch backwards off of them. His slider sits 78-81 mph (2700 rpm) with sharp, sweeping action while the curve works 75-76 mph (2600 rpm) with good depth. He can manipulate both breakers but excels at shifting the shape and angle of his curve, making it a multi-faceted weapon that disrupts timing and changes eye level of the batters. Listed at 6-foot-1 with a medium build, an athletic delivery and easy arm action, Hubbart shows excellent feel for his arsenal and works quickly and aggressively with confidence and poise. The raw stuff doesn’t jump off the page, but there is room for the velo to continue to improve some and the sum of his profile far exceeds the individual grades. He looks the part of a late-first rounder or supplemental pick at present and he could continue to grow his stock as he builds off his incredible summer performance.

Florida State recruit. Currently stands at 5-foot-11, 165 pounds with a lean, athletic build. Repeatable, up-up tempo wind up with a big leg kick for his delivery. Quick arm throwing out of the high ¾ slot. Works with a good pace and located his fastball down in the zone at 85-87 mph, touching 88 with run. Shows a feel for the curveball that had a hard 12/6 break with depth that he threw for strikes at 71-73 mph while also mixing in a 75-76 mph changeup. Athletic and can really pitch.

07/28/17- Committed to Florida State University.

Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-11, 155 pounds with a lean, athletic frame. Quick arm with a high leg kick in his delivery. Inconsistent landing, continually fell off to the third base side. As he becomes more consistent with his delivery and follow through, his command of the zone should improve. Fastball was mostly in the 83-85 mph range that showed run. Also displayed a 70-71 mph curveball and a 74-75 mph changeup he threw occasionally.
