FL Preseason All-State: Two-Way Analysis

The weekend of January 26th and 27th, PBR Florida held its 3rd annual Preseason All-State event at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., to evaluate close to 100 of the state’s top prospects. This invite only event was comprised of prospects from all classes. To view the whole roster, CLICK HERE.
We began our event coverage with a Statistical Analysis, highlighting the top statistical performers on leaderboards. We then provided our first impressions from the event, broken down by team: Team White, Team Blue, Team Black, Team Red, Team Yellow, Team Gray
We started our positional breakdown last week and, so far, have covered: Catchers, Corner Infielders, Middle Infielders, Outfielders, PitchersToday, we wrap up our analysis of Preseason All-State by taking a look at the standout two-way prospects. Leading this crop of prospects are two teammate from Bolles in Jacksonville, Fla.. One of the top left-handers, and overall prospects, in the 2019 MLB Draft, Hunter Barco took to the mound. Barco did not disappoint, showcasing his athletic arm while running his fastball up to 92 mph.
A big winner on the day was the man Barco typically throws to, Jackson Baumeister (Florida State commit, 2021). Already known for his prowess behind the plate and with the bat, Baumeister turned a lot of heads with what he did on the mound. With an electric arm action, the ball seemed to fly out of his hand, touching 91 mph in the process.

Florida recruit. Long, projectable frame with broad shoulders at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds. The arm action is loose and quick through a low-¾ slot. He strides down the mound in line with ease and balance. The fastball sat 90-92 with some arm-side run and he located it mostly in the bottom half of the zone. Slider has short break with some late action, has good feel for and shape, currently an average pitch, has shown above-average in the past. Has good feel for and if He shows feel for a changeup with sink and fade at 84, as well as a splitter that dives at 81. While his future is clearly on the mound, Barco shows natural left-handed power that could play at the college level. |

Jackson Baumeister C / RHP / Bolles, FL / 2021Florida State recruit. At 6-foot-3, 210 pounds he might not only be one of the more physically impressive underclassmen in attendance, he was overall one of the most talented. A true two way player, he stands out behind the plate where is is athletic and comfortable, with flexibility and a good setup despite the large frame. Transfer is clean, arm is strong, feet work and pop times ranged from 1.94-2.11. Offensively, the right-handed hitter uses the large frame efficiently with a simple swing, driving balls from gap-to-gap. He has bat to ball skills and power with overall high upside. On the mound, he used his strong lower half well, with an efficient delivery, above average curveball and fastball up to 91 mph. Overall, a true two-way talent with very advanced skillset. |

Frank Elissalt RHP / 3B / Miami Sunset Senior, FL / 2020One of the top uncommitted prospects at the event. 6-foot-2, 195-pound switch-hitting two-way prospect. Offensively, legitimate switch-hitter, similar setup and approach from both-sides, balanced, long stride, remains balanced throughout. Looks to elevate the ball to pull-side, 90 mph exit velocity. Defensively, long, loose arm action, over-the-top slot, throws carry with accuracy, 91 mph across the diamond. Fields position athletically, can stick at third base at the next level. On the mound, long, circular arm action, clean on the back side, ¾ slot, low effort. Drop and drive delivery, smooth rhythm, works on-line, lands square, finishes athletically. Fastball worked 86-88. Curveball, 11/5 shape, 68-74. Changeup, fade action, 75-78. Ran a 7.90 laser-timed 60. |

Josh Allen OF / LHP / Oviedo, FL / 2020Duke recruit. The 6-foot-2, 200 pound LHP/OF has a strong, durable frame. Comes through the ball well in the outfield. Arm works, accurate throws, topped at 84 mph. Offensively, the left-handed hitter has a simple swing. Tends to shift and work out over the front foot, but uses the lower half and his present strength well. Had an exit velocity of 94 mph. On the mound, he shows a feel to pitch. Locates down to both sides of the plate with all three pitches. Fastball was up to 84 mph, but there is much more in the tank. |

Jonathan Ramallo OF / RHP / Miami Sunset Senior, FL / 2020Rankings StateRank: 203 / POS: 32
One of the top uncommitted prospects in attendance. Athletic, physical frame, strength throughout, stands 6-foot, 200-pounds. Right-handed hitting two-way prospect. Defensively, plus arm from the outfield, 92 mph. Arm works long and loose from a ¾ slot, throws carry with accuracy. Fields position athletically, fluid footwork, clean on exchanges. Offensively, barrel works uphill, looks to elevate the ball to the pull-side, 93 mph exit velocity. On the mound, arm action is short, high ¾ slot, above average arm speed. Tall and fall delivery, works on-line, lands toe closed, pivots square, finishes in an athletic position. Fastball worked 85-87. Curveball, 11/5 shape, depth, 67-71. Changeup, fade action, 75-78. |
Best of the Rest
Christian Boyles, SS/RHP, Riverdale, 2020
Standing at 6-foot, 155 pounds, he is still very young in the face and a lot of room to grow and fill out on a fairly projectable frame. Defensively, showed some surprisingly easy range at short. Quality lateral agility and hands worked well out in front. Offensively he starts slightly open and upright, leg kick trigger and he showed loose wrists, bat speed and a feel for the barrel. The swing is level and produced line drives from gap to gap in BP with more to come as he adds strength. On the mound, short arm action, stab on back-side, ¾ slot. Tall and fall delivery, works on-line, lands toe-closed, finishes athletically. Fastball sat 77-78. Curveball, 11/5 shape, played at 64-66.
Jacob Crews, 1B/RHP, West Orange, 2021 1B/RHP
6-foot-5, 230-pound first baseman and right-handed pitcher, extra-large frame, high waisted. Offensively, balanced setup, short stride, hands load back, maintains good balance through contact. Line drive type hitter, power potential, with more incorporation of lower half should tap into raw power, 87 mph exit velocity. Ran a 7.47 laser-timed 60. Defensively, short arm action, high ¾ slot, accurate on throws, 81 mph across the diamond. On the mound works with a short arm action from a high ¾ slot, some arm looseness. Tall and fall delivery, works on-line, strides towards third, lands square, finishes walking down the mound. Fastball sat 80-81. Curveball, 12/6 shape, 69-73. Changeup, sinking action, 75-77.
William Hagen, 1B/RHP, Eau Gallie, 2021
6-foot, 210-pound first baseman and right-handed pitcher, thick frame, strength throughout. Offensively, takes an open setup, low leg kick timing trigger, maintains balance. Power hitter, looks to elevate the ball to the pull-side, 91 mph exit velocity. Defensively, long arm action, ¾ slot, 78 mph across the infield. Fields position athletically, soft glove, clean exchanges. On the mound, long arm action, soft stab on back-side, ¾ slot. Drop and drive delivery, works on-line, lands toe-closed, finishes crossing over. Fastball sat 78-81. Curveball, 11/5 shape, 65-67. Changeup, sinking action, 72-75.
Grant Siegel, SS/RHP, University, 2021
Tulane recruit. The athletic two way player stands at 6-foot-1, 185 pounds. The athleticism plays defensively, where he is twitchy with a good first step. Overall, athletic sound defensive actions. Offensively, he stands tall and confident. There is some length, but has present bat speed and offensive potential. May be most intriguing on the mound. The athleticism again plays well. He has a clean and quick arm, fastball comes out of the hand well and was up to 85 mph. Overall a very athletic follow.
Logan Wash, OF/LHP, Lake Brantley, 2020
Standing at 5-foot-11, 165 pounds he has a long, projectable frame. Offensively the ball jumps off of the barrel. Uses his long limbs efficiently, staying short to the ball while still creating leverage, Generated an exit velocity of 87 mph. Defensively, he moves athletically in the outfield and has a loose easy arm action, topping out at 81 mph. On the mound he has a clean arm stroke and was up to 80 mph. Showed quality shape on the curveball and a feel for the changeup. Overall,more to come on both sides with strength and maturity.
