The weekend of January 26th and 27th, PBR Florida held its 3rd annual Preseason All-State event at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., to evaluate close to 100 of the state’s top prospects. This invite only event was comprised of prospects from all classes. To view the whole roster, CLICK HERE.
We began our event coverage last week with a Statistical Analysis, highlighting the top statistical performers on leaderboards. Beginning last week and concluding earlier this week, we provided our first impressions from the event, broken down by team: Team White, Team Blue, Team Black, Team Red, Team Yellow, Team Gray
Today, we continue our position-by-position breakdown with the corner infielder. First, we present the top-5 corner infielders from the event, led by 2021 Brett Blair. Blair is one of the top uncommitted underclassmen. Following the top-5 prospects are the rest of the participating athletes in alphabetical order. (Two-way prospects will be presented on their own).
Top Prospects
Brett Blair 3B / SS / Buchholz, FL / 2021Perhaps one of the most intriguing uncommitted underclass prospects in attendance. He has continued to add physicality to an impressive frame and looks as much like a linebacker as a third basemen. The measurables were impressive as well. Ran a 6.87 60 yard dash in very tough conditions, was 83 mph across the infield and had an exit velocity of 94 mph. Although he showed more than just measurables. While he will need to continue to improve rhythm at third, he is a sound defender. The bat really plays up though. He uses the strength throughout his frame well, with a leg kick trigger he stays balanced in the lower half and compact through the zone while generating above average bat speed with the strength. Overall, he has a lot of tools and a high offensive ceiling with the chance to both hit for average and power.

Cade Bush 1B / 3B / Palm Beach Gardens, FL / 2021Rankings StateRank: 57 / POS: 2
Florida State recruit. Standing at a physical 6-foot-2, 200 pounds. Strength-based player with a large frame. Offensively, he shows power over hit future offensive profile. Really advanced physically for 2021 class. Stands upright and slightly open, he uses his strength efficiently especially to the pull side. Expect to see the bat get very loud as he gets older and grows into his athleticism. Defensively, he works well around the bag and profiles as your tradtional big right handed power first baseman.

Luke Hatcher 2B / 3B / Dixie County, FL / 2020A lean, strong and athletic 6-foot-1, 190 pound frame. Defensively, there is some stiffness and could work with more rhythm, but the hands work and throws topped at 81 mph. Really stood out offensively where the strength plays well. Has a wide base, but clears well. The path works on a good plane, slightly uphill. Shows the ability to turn the barrel and drive th baseball consistently, especially to the pull side. Overall, a lot to like from an offensive standpoint. High uncommitted 2020 follow as he could have above average hit/power combo.

Dominic Scavone 3B / RHP / Bishop Moore Catholic , FL / 2021Stetson recruit. Standing at 6-foot, 175 pounds he continues to add strength and projects to grow. Defensively, shows solid to above average defensive actions at third. Hands and feet work in sync and with some rhythm through the ball. Offensively, he continues to add strength while maintaining a compact level swing. Advanced bat to ball skills with a great approach. Consistently found the barrel throughout BP with a very high offensive upside.

Big swing in a small space as the hands enter zone quickly and bat moves upwards through for flyball ability. Working slightly uphill with present bat speed he has strength that generates present power and offensive upside.

Ben Brown, OF, North Port (2021)
At 5-foot-9, 145 pounds, he has a slender athletic frame with length in limbs and overall upside. Spray-the-gaps hitter with quick hands. Strong enough defensively to provide versatility value between 3B and 2B until he reaches his offensive potential. There is feel to hit and the path works and overall will continue to make big strides with strength and maturity. Defensively, he works under control, hands and feet work well and is a sound overall defender.
Cal Gilliam, 1B, Columbia (2019)
St Johns River recruit, the 6-foot-3, 235 pound first baseman has a strong, XL frame. Defensively, he is a solid first baseman as the feet work and shows ability to pick the ball. Offensively, he really stands out with the big and strong lower half. Uses it well and creates above average bat speed combined with the strength. More strength over bat speed though and generates an exit velocity of 93 mph and has real right-handed power potential.

Solid defender with some power potential, could potentially be an offensive second basemen.
Henry Politz, C/1B, Jesuit (2020)
At 6-foot-2, 220 pound he has a big, strong XL frame. Defensively, he is a sound first basemen as the feet work well around the bag. Behind the plate hands work, needs some added flexibility, but feet worked well and pop times were 2.0-2.16. Offensively, the switch hitter is a bit more aggressive from the right side. Working uphill with present strength and bat speed with an exit velocity of 93 mph and power potential. Left-handed, he works uphill, can get a little rotational, but has a feel for the barrel and uses the lower half well. A lot of power potential from both sides, may stick more at first, but is a solid option behind the plate as well.
William Quinones, 1B/OF, University, 2020
Uncommitted junior, 6-foot, 210-pounds, strong, physical frame, right-handed hitting first baseman and outfielder. Offensively, balanced setup, leg kick timing trigger, hands cock on load, maintains good balance. Power hitter with pull-side tendency, barrel path works uphill, 90 mph exit velocity. Good runner for size, 7.17 laser-timed 60 yard dash. Defensively, arm works long, circular on the back-side, high ¾ slot, 81 mph across the infield, 82 from the outfield. Displayed fluid footwork and clean exchanges at first base, more natural on the infield.
Christian Soto, 3B, CPCA (2022)
FIU recruit. At 5-foot-11, 180 pounds, he has a medium stocky frame. Has built up a track record for being a really good hitter. Consistent in-game performer offensively. Uses all fields and will put together good AB’s - just a very well-rounded hitter. Swing is simple and compact with present bat to ball skills. Slightly undersized for third, but the actions work. May eventually slide to second, but hands and feet work and is overall a solid defender.
Noah Sullivan, 3B, Dr Phillips (2021)
Stands at 6-foot, 175 pounds. Ran a 7.68 60 yard dash in very tough conditions. Defensively, works under control, hands work, throws were accurate and topped at 78 mph. Still young with present strength in the frame and more to come with maturity.
Connor Wilit, 3B, Cardinal Newman (2021)
Standing at 6-foot, 175 pounds, he has a frame that looks to be on the verge of growing a few inches and becoming more physical. Defensively, he works under control and shows sound defensive actions at third. Offensively, the left handed hitter has rhythm and the swing works with loose wrists and creates whippy bat speed. There is natural loft in the swing and has some strength with more to come. An exit velocity of 86 mph shows the present bat speed and power potential.
