Florida International Commit, 6-foot, 185-pound solid mature frame. Above average at the plate, Soto had an exit velocity of 93 mph. Begins in a balanced quiet stance with a smooth controlled load, then uses a leg kick. Bat speed is efficient, uses a loose simple swing plane and high finish. Barreled up multiple balls with loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Confident in the infield, had a live arm with throws that topped out at 85 mph; had fluid rhythmic footwork, a clean natural exchange, and sure consistent hands. Fields the ball deep, movements laterally were athletic. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a compact arm action and a ¾ slot.
2/8/19 - FIU recruit. At 5-foot-11, 180 pounds, he has a medium stocky frame. Has built up a track record for being a really good hitter. Consistent in-game performer offensively. Uses all fields and will put together good AB’s - just a very well-rounded hitter. Swing is simple and compact with present bat to ball skills. Slightly undersized for third, but the actions work. May eventually slide to second, but hands and feet work and is overall a solid defender.
10/20/18 - Florida International recruit who committed shortly after the weekend. Currently stands at 5-foot-11, 180 pounds with a strong lower half. Continued to stand out offensively as he has all summer as he showed present bat speed and utilizing his strong lower half to drive the ball into the outfield. Confident hands around the bag.
07/28/18- A stocky, 5-foot-11, 180 pounds, Soto was one of the younger players in attendance. The third baseman continues to show advanced feel for the position with above average footwork and hands. Offensively, he has a strong lower half that keeps him balanced throughout the swing. There can be some length at times, but has barrel awareness and a simple swing that will continue to become more compact and add power as he matures.
07/14/18- Currently stands at 5-foot-11, 180 pounds with an athletic frame and strong lower half. His all around actions were impressive. He has a strong lower half and hope to see it stay lean as he matures. Shows advanced defensive action with above average hands. Offensively, he is advanced for his age. He is balanced and uses his strong lower half well. Clearing his back side there is present bat speed and barrel awareness Translated to a hard line drive single into right field during gameplay. Overall, he shows a lot of all around potential in the present tools and will be a high follow to see how they progress as he matures.
8/18/17 - 5-foot-11, 195 pound corner infielder. The big right handed hitter hits with a small leg kick and small stride. He has present strength and bat speed. There is some steepness in the swing and when he learns to utilizes the lower half the strength could translate to gap-to-gap power. Defensively, he shows sound defensive action and has the big strong frame for first base.
