A fastball with hop has a flat approach angle and visually jumps through the zone. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher swing and miss average. Hop+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Sink+
A fastball with sink has low backspin and drops through the strike zone. When thrown down in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher ground ball percentage and lower launch angle. Sink+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Rise+
A fastball with rise has a high percentage of backspin. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher fly ball percentage. Rise+ of 100 is MLB average
Curveball
Hammer+
A hammer breaking ball drops vertically with velocity through the zone, or 12-to-6 movement. Hammer+ of 100 is MLB average.
Curveball
Sweep+
A sweeping breaking ball moves horizontally with velocity through the zone. Sweep+ of 100 is MLB average.

It was a short outing for the 5-foot-10, VCU commit. Gomez came on to close it out for the Flucos in the seventh inning. It was a very easy, low effort operation. Long arm swing and throws from a three-quarter arm slot. The fastball had some downhill plane to it, sitting at 83-84 mph and touched 85 once. The breaking ball, as we have seen in the past, has hard 12/6 downer bite. He was able to throw it consistently for strikes at 67-72 mph and offered elite spin that ranged from 2850-2987 RPM in the five that he threw.

Gomez is 5-10 with an athletic 160 pound frame that has some lower half strength present and plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, two step low leg kick stride on line, smooth load back to a slight wrap. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short and quick to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing path with some strength at contact, extra base power present in the middle of the field with potential to grow into more as he fills out, exit velocity was 89. In the infield, gets body behind ball and fields with a wider base and average hands, works through the ball to a clean exchange, throws from a higher three-quarters arm slot, short loose quick arm action, position velocity was 84. Ran a 7.35 60 yard dash. On the mound, he throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, breaks long before tightening up to a short free quick arm action and some effort to his delivery. Drop and drive crossfire delivery, shoulders are uphill and closed, lands closed with a slight fall off finish and some recoil. Fastball was 82-84, with downward angle and some late armside run and a bit of depth at the end. Curveball was 74-76 with good armspeed and sharp hard 11/5 break to it. Change-up was 72-74 with good armspeed and heavy late fade to it.
