Transferred from Vanderbilt to St. John's River State College.
05.26.17
Physical and aggressive. Three at-bats vs. a LHP, as a left handed hitter, and showed an ability to have a plan and recognize spin. Good adjustment in his third at-bat, hitting a fastball early in the count as Lake Norman pounded him hard in to begin at-bats. Balanced and tall in the box. Loads back with a short stride. Lacks some rhythm and timing at times. Strength over quickness, but has shown an ability to get to velocity. Plays with strength and some fluidness, getting to a couple of balls defensively, but unable to complete plays as his feet work with slightly better rhythm than his hands. Sound on the routine play, funneling to the midsection and showing accuracy and carry across the diamond. Closed the game on the mound, touching 88. Hard 11/5 curveball ranged 69-71 with late action, getting unbalanced takes and swing and miss. Breaking ball allows fastball to work at the top of the zone.
06.24.16 - INF Garrett Blaylock (T.C. Roberson HS, NC), a proportionally strong 6-foot-2, 205-pound Vanderbilt recruit, is standing out with his advanced plate approach. Simple, relaxed and highly confident in the box, the left-handed hitter has been barreling up velocity over the course of two days. On Thursday, he went 2-for-4 with a pair of line-shot singles up the middle. On Wednesday, he squared up 96 to centerfield and also put a charge into one to right field.
06.15.16 - SS Garrett Blaylock (Roberson HS, NC) ran a 7.18 and has a good, strong frame at 6-foot-3, 205 pounds. His arm strength and defense has room for improvement, but he showed at least average power from the left side in BP. He takes a short stride with a slight arm bar and consistently squared pitches up. The ball jumped off his bat and sounded different than others. He is committed to Vanderbilt.
11-1-2018: 6-foot-3, 210-pound left-handed hitting corner infielder, physical frame, strength throughout, moves with athletic actions, transfer from Vanderbilt. Slightly open setup at the plate, low leg kick timing trigger, hands start high, some barrel wrap on load, maintains balance. Strong hands/wrists at contact, power approach, natural lift to swing.
