Player of the Week nominations are submitted by High School coaches across North Carolina each week. Along with the nominations, Prep Baseball Report is diving into box scores, talking to coaches and scouts, and attending as many games as possible.
The North Carolina Player of the Week for March 27 – April 2 is SS/RHP Garrett Blaylock of TC Roberson HS. Blaylock had a good week at the plate and on the mound as TC Roberson stepped out of conference play to take on two out-of-state opponents with a tradition of winning.
On Monday vs. Blue Ridge HS out of Greer, SC, Blaylock went 1-3 with a double, walk, and a hit-by-pitch. He recorded an RBI and scored a run.
On Wednesday, playing Science Hill out of TN, Blaylock came up big in the box and on the mound. Entering the game in the 6th inning of a 4-4 game, Blaylock would proceed to work 7 scoreless and hit-less innings, as the game entered the 13th.
In the 16th inning, with a runner on first, Blaylock would line a double off the right field wall, setting up 2nd and 3rd with no-outs, keying a 4 run inning and the win for TC Roberson. Blaylock had already done damage in the game with an RBI double in the first to give the Rams a lead and a HR in the top of the 3rd to close a 3-1 game into a one run game.
