RVA Fall Review Reactions Part III
December 3, 2019
Anthony Connor C / 2B / Glen Allen, VA / 2022Short fluid swing from the left side. Line drive approach that consistently found the barrel and used the entire field. Looked comfortable in the swing and approach. Defensively worked out in the infield and behind the plate. In the infield Connor flashed quiet eyes and hands on approach, quick exchange, and an accurate arm across. Behind the plate he showed solid receiving skills not dragging pitches through the zone and throws were accurate around the bag. Connor’s hit tool plays with present barrel awareness and he should round out nicely as arm strength continues to improve. |
Ethan Hamill RHP / OF / Thomas Dale, VA / 2022Long thin projectable frame with plenty of room to add strength to the 6-foot-2 frame. Short quick arm for the long levered right-hander. Fluid, low effort delivery with a fastball that got up to an easy 81 mph. Breaking ball, while inconsistent, showed some potential with a bigger 11/5 break and hard late action at times. This is a right hander that you should keep an eye on as he continues to grow into the frame, as I think there are a few more jumps coming Hamill’s way. |
Garrett Mason OF / RHP / Mills E. Godwin , VA / 2023Offensively Mason shows pull side tendency with some power potential. Level path to the swing and has some bat speed getting through the zone. In the outfield he attacked through the ball, quick exchange and release with average arm strength that should continue to grow as he matures. On the mound the fastball got up to 79 mph with minimal effort in the delivery. The curveball had tight late break and the makings of a solid secondary pitch. With Mason’s size , stands 6-foot-3, and athleticism he is going to be a name to watch moving forward. |
Terrence Rhodes SS / RHP / Benedictine, VA / 2023Compact 5-foot-6 frame for the left handed hitting athlete out of Benedictine. Had a group best 3.92 out of the box on a Home to 1st. Moves well everywhere on the field. Showed off some arm strength from the outfield today posting 87 mph, which was second best velocity in the group. Is a very versatile player, being able to play a variety of infield and outfield positions as well as contribute on the mound and at the plate. On the mound Rhodes filled up the zone with a fastball that got up to 82 mph and flashed a 12/6 breaking ball with depth. |
Quincy Via OF / Lake Braddock, VA / 2022Projectable frame at 6-foot-2 that oozes athleticism. Ran one of the better, and easier, Home-1st times on the day. At the plate has a very simple efficient approach with a short level path. Flashed some hand speed and strength with line drive tendency and used middle of the field well. Ball just came off a little different, in a good way. Attacks the ball in the outfield, but could use some cleaning up of the arm action. Via is a kid that should be exciting to watch as he continues to shape some of his raw athletic ability. |
