Inside the 2025 Rankings - Catchers

TEXAS - The 2025 National Rankings were released last week, and no surprise, the state of Texas was well represented with 26 of the 250 players residing in the Lone Star State. This class is well rounded and has a good mix of impact bats and high end arms. As we roll out the initial State Rankings, there is a baseline for a deep class that will only continue to get deeper as their High School Careers play out.
In our 2nd installment of inside the 2025 state rankings, we will be looking at the catcher position. It is one of the deeper positions in the State for this class with 6 ranked in the top 25. This position has some impact bats with power potential and has guys with the defensive ability to stay behind the plate throughout their career.

Luke Billings OF / RHP / Prosper , TX / 2025The 1st catcher, Luke Billings, is our #1 player in the state. The Prosper HS standout had a great summer and capped it off with a bang at the Future Games. He not only played in the Jr. Future Games, but also played up in the upper class as well. The RHH has above average power from the right side and swings with serious intent every time he steps in the box. Behind the plate, he has a plus arm that also shows up on the mound. He has soft hands and the leadership qualities that you look for in a top of the line catcher.

Masa Chilcutt C / Johnson, TX / 2025Next on the list, and #8 in the rankings, is Masa Chilcutt. The SA Johnson backstop is arguably the best defensive catcher in the state and in the country. He is an elite receiver and blocker of the baseball. At the plate, Chilcutt has a short and compact swing that is geared for line drives all over the field. |

Mitchell Morton C / 3B / Plano West , TX / 2025Mitchell Morton comes in as the 3rd ranked catcher in the state. The Jr. Future Games participant can really swing it. At the plate, Morton has some real power potential. Has a good frame that has plenty of projection left, and some current bat speed. At the JFG, he showed off his arm and quick release gunning down multiple baserunners. The future is bright for this Plano West standout.

Bryce Wells C / 3B / Smithson Valley, TX / 2025Smithson Valley freshman, Bryce Wells has a physical presence behind the plate. He showed well defensively every time we saw him, especially blocking the baseball. The 17th ranked player in the state also shows his strength in the batters box. He swings with intent and showed some pull side power. |

Dean Hannah C / 1B / China Spring, TX / 2025The 5th ranked catcher in the state is Dean Hannah out of China Spring HS. Hannah is a physical kid who can really hit. He is a confident hitter, who can drive the ball with authority to all fields. Defensively, he is a good receiver and if the arm strength continues to improve he has a chance to keep rising.

Myles Mayse C / 1B / Dallas Jesuit, TX / 2025Myles Mayse is our 6th ranked catcher, and has some of the loudest tools in the state. The switch hitting catcher shows elite bat speed and power potential from both sides of the plate. Defensively, he has a plus arm behind the dish and his receiving keeps improving with each viewing. This Jesuit HS freshman has some of the highest upside in the class, and will be fun to watch his progression throughout his HS career.
