Bryce Wells, Smithson Valley (TX), 2025 Positional Profile: C/OF RHH/C…will add strength. Solid receiver and arm strength, will continue to develop behind the plate. I like the swing, opportunity to improve efficiency of lower 1/2. Will continue to improve. Body: 6-1, 225-pounds. Width to shoulders and back, good frame to add increased strength. Hit: RHH. Upright stance with short stride lands in good position to hit. Rotational back foot, doesn't get fully rotated, can improve getting rotated and improving impact. Doing this will improve lower 1/2 use and increase rotation acceleration. Hands/barrel in good position to hit, solid path to zone showing solid contact. Good swing. Simple. 73 mph bat speed with 9 G's of rotational acceleration. Power: 99 max exit velocity, averaged 89.8 mph. 358' max distance. Good swing with solid line drive contact. Hands bat, opportunities present to increase efficiency of lower 1/2. Like the swing. Arm: RH. C-75 mph. Arm works well, arm quickness fringe avg. Defense: 2.00-2.08 pop times. Solid receiver, moves well behind plate blocking. Feet work fine setting to throw. Nice job of handling pitchers. ATH: 7.03 runner in the 60. 1.65 and 3.53 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. Solid acceleration, moves well for big body.

Wells was a tick off in the box on the day but showed all the tools and characteristics of a future high level catcher behind the dish. Standing 5-foot-11, 195-pounds with strong forearms and a stout build, the future Longhorn showed why he was highly sought after at such a young age. Wells handles the low pitch with ease and is very natural catching the ball. He also moves well in both directions to block the ball. When the Smithson Valley backstop continues to get comfortable in the box, watch for him to turn into the total package behind the dish.
