Prep Baseball Texas Staff

TEXAS - Over the weekend of November, 2 - November, 3, we hosted the Underclass State Games at Texas A&M University where we saw some of the top 2027 & 2028 players in the State. The weekend kicked off on Saturday morning with a workout for position players. They ran 60's, threw from defensive positions, and ended the workout with BP on the field. Saturday afternoon and Sunday consisted of gameplay where the pitchers had their TrackMan data recorded. This event featured a strong group of players from top to bottom and that showed throughout the entire weekend. Today, we take a look at the scouting reports from each infielder in attendance as well as rank the top 5 middle infielders and the top 5 corner infielders.

Brett Allison 3B / RHP / Pieper, TX / 2027

Expect secondary effectiveness to increase as velo increases. RHH/INF…will add strength. Defensively upside to glove and raw arm strength. Opportunities for adjustments with hit approach and swing, upside to bat/power combo. Watch progress.
Body: 6-1, 191-pounds. Good build/frame to add needed strength. Projects to have good build in future.
Hit: RHH. Upright stance, some length to stride creating separation between feet. Rotational back foot works fine, limited use of lower 1/2 in swing. With space created with stride, would recommend trying to develop linear movement with rotating back foot, driving back side into firm front leg. This will increase lower 1/2 use and ability to consistently impact baseball. Hands in solid position to launch. Length created to swing with bat wrap, try not to get bat pointed towards SS, move away from head some. Watch slow video of swing, barrel goes right thru optimum start position on its way to zone. Wyatt Baskin RHP / SS / Memorial, TX / 2027

Positional Profile: SS/RHP RHH/INF…will add strength in future. Solid defender in future, project arm strength to develop. Upside to bat/power combo with adjustments, will be fun to watch develop. Body: 6-1, 168-pounds. Good build/frame to add needed strength in future. Projects well physically.
Hit: RHH. Short stride, simple approach to hit. Rotational back foot, lacks any drive forward limiting rotation acceleration and lower 1/2 use in swing. Work to drive back foot forward hitting into firm front side, this will increase impact. Barrel/hands solid launch position. Some marginal length to swing, front shoulder pulls off slightly, doesn't drive baseball with barrel slicing thru zone. Shorten swing, let ball travel some, develop extension to swing out front working to stay behind the baseball. 61.5 mph bat speed with 5 G's of rotational acceleration.

Body: 5-10, 158-pounds. Good build//frame to add needed strength. Minor thickness in middle with lower strength now. Projects to have solid build.
Hit: RHH. Lands in good position after stride. Would be mindful that he lands somewhat hard on stride foot, be careful not to get weight out over front side with hard landing. Back foot move varies from somewhat rotational to one with linear movement forward. With length of separation between feet post stride would recommend mastering linear move increasing lower 1/2 use and impact. High back elbow with some wrap to barrel creates length to swing. Soften back elbow, keep barrel slightly more upright behind head. Take direct path to hit zone with barrel, keeping hands inside baseball. Fair bat/hand speed, will benefit from shorter path. Work to get barrel on plane, uphill path to zone presently. 66.3 mph bat speed with 10 G's of rotational acceleration.

Body: 5-8, 156-pounds. Good build/frame to add needed strength. Projects to have solid build in future.
Hit: RHH. Open stance with short stride, feet with minimal separation after stride. Rotational back foot, inconsistent driving forward, must firm movement forward and drive hip forward for success. Firming movement will increase ability to impact baseball. Barrel/hands in solid position to hit. Scoop swing with length, lacking in bat/hand speed. Work to develop ability taking barrel directly to zone eliminating scoop path. Expect bat/hand speed to increase with length. 65.7 mph bat speed with 6 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 91 max exit velocity, averaged 85.5 mph. 273' max distance. Opportunities present for adjustments present. Like the upside to bat/power combo with ability to make adjustments.
Arm: RH. INF-74 mph. Arm works, lacks arm speed presently. Arm speed will increase with added strength. Would recommend long toss program to increase arm speed/arm strength.
Defense: Dead feet, feet work fine getting body into position to field, can improve playing thru baseball with feet. Hands work fine, fields baseball out front, glove in good position. Body control present.

Starter actions and stuff. Fun to watch him develop.
Body: 6-0, 170-pounds. Good frame/build. Well proportioned, will add strength for solid/strong build.
Hit: RHH. Lands in good position to hit after stride. Back foot lacks consistency in swing. Shows both rotational movement and some linear movement, neither efficient at this time. Back foot should drive forward or be rotational hitting into firm front leg, this will help hip drive forward increasing impact of baseball. Also, falls back in swing, as he hits into firm front leg, maintain upright hitting posture. Barrel in good spot to launch. Some length created to swing with lead arm bar. Cast hands out and around causing long swing. Soften lead arm limiting lead arm bar, work to take hands to baseball, not out and around. 70.9 mph bat speed with 6 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 94 max exit velocity, averaged 87.9 mph. 366' max distance. Bat strength present with some bat speed. Opportunities for both hit approach adjustments and swing adjustments. Potential to exceed bat/power with changes. Got a chance to impact baseball in future.

Opportunities present for adjustments with hit approach and swing. Big upside to bat/power combo with adjustments.
Body: 6-4, 193-pounds. Long levers with good build/frame to add needed strength. Projects to have good build.
Hit: RHH. Knee lift stride with length, lands hard with drift forward, upper torso occasionally gets out front. Lower stride, keep controlled, land softer keeping weight back. Shows rotational back foot at times, gets stuck not getting fully rotated at times, work to get turned fully each time. Shows linear movement, works well with length created between feet after stride, work to drive foot/back hit forward with consistency. Stops movement at times. Vertical drop with hands and push back away from body creating lead arm bar and length to swing. Work to keep hands up, soften push back movement, working to keep hands closer to body. Best example…think of figure skaters…hands tight spin faster, away slower spin. Same thoughts apply here…slowing swing with hands push away.  78.8 mph bat speed with 20 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 101 max exit velocity, averaged 90.0 mph. 371' max distance. Upside to projected bat/power combo. Opportunities for adjustments present. Changes will improve contact consistency and ability to impact baseball.
Arm: RH. INF-84 mph.

Hit: LHH. Lands in good position to hit after stride with slight length to stride. Rotational back foot, nice job of getting turned. Would like to see some linear movement forward with back foot improving use of lower 1/2. Separation between feet after stride makes it tough on maximizing lower 1/2 use with linear movement forward. Hands/barrel start in decent spot, late wrist cock creates barrel tip. Tip creates scoop path and length to swing. Must get barrel in improved launch position resulting in shorter swing and improved path to baseball. 70.5 mph bat speed with 11 G's of rotational acceleration.

Hit: RHH. Short stride from wide base to start, decent position to hit, slightly closed with stride. Rotational back foot, decent job of using lower 1/2. Would benefit from developing some linear movement forward, hitting into firm front side. Distance between feet after stride creates difficulty in using lower 1/2 with just rotational move. Barrel/hands in good position to hit. Takes good path to zone. Improving lower 1/2 will help swing consistency of barrel in position to make hard contact. 64.8 mph bat speed with 8 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 88 max exit velocity, averaged 69.6 mph. 303' max distance. Nice bat/power combo in future. Opportunities for hit approach present, adjustments will help contact consistency and development of hard contact. Swing works, lower 1/2 adjustments big for future development.

Hit: LHH. Toe tap, short stride landing slightly closed. Rotational back foot that gets stuck at times with rotation. Doesn't drive back foot forward with any consistency limiting lower 1/2 use. Would like to see back foot getting fully rotated, shoelaces to pitcher along with some forward movement of back foot and back hip into firm front side. Late barrel tip movement creating length to swing, uphill path and inconsistent timing. Soften wrist cock movement to lessen barrel tip, also recommend working barrel more behind head, this position allows more direct path to hit zone shortening swing along with enhancing ability to get more on plane creating more line drive contact. Hit over power in future. 68.5 mph bat speed with 7 G's of rotational acceleration.

Back foot can slide back on pitches away for body control if necessary. Solid posture. Barrel/hands start in initial good position. Barrel goes vertical slight wrist cock, this causes length to swing. Barrel goes back, down and around to hit zone. Soften wrist cock or develop another move to initiate swing, take direct path to hit zone with hands/barrel. Shortening swing will help present fair bat speed, will allow waiting longer for pitch recognition. 61.6 mph bat speed with 22 G's of rotational acceleration.

Back foot can slide away from plate on pitches away for balance, otherwise drive forward. Bent at waist with swing, work for upright posture, this will be helped driving into firm front side. Hands/barrel in good launch position, takes solid path to hit zone with hands/barrel. Pull approach, pulls off, work to stay thru baseball with extension. 62.9 mph bat speed with 16 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 87 max exit velocity, averaged 79.4 mph. 288' max distance. Nice bat/power combo in future with chance to exceed. Opportunities for adjustment present to improve contact consistency and impact of baseball.
Arm: RH. INF-70 mph. Arm works, will improve with added strength. Needs to close front shoulder in throwing process currently, presently stays open hindering arm speed. Needs long toss program to firm throwing mechanics and improve arm speed.
Defense: Athleticism present. Feet work getting body into position to field. Dead feet in fielding process, needs to learn to work thru baseball consistently with feet. Glove in solid position, hands work…needs to work to field baseball out front, fields deep at this time. Will be solid defender with adjustments.
ATH: 7.27 runner in the 60. 1.77 and 4.03 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. Moves well, speed will increase with added strength.

Work to take more direct path to hit zone with barrel. Shortening path with barrel will help fair bat speed and hand speed.
Power: 87 max exit velocity, averaged 77.1 mph. 274' max distance. Upside to bat/power combo. Opportunities for adjustments present with both hit approach and swing.
Arm: RH. INF-75 mph. Arm works well, throws show carry. Will have avg arm in future.
