OTHERS TO WATCH: OF Jared McKenzie (Round Rock HS, TX) is the Wade Boggs of the 2019 class in Texas. The left-handed hitter can flat out swing it with high-end feel for the barrel and a gap-to-gap approach. C Nate Rombach (Mansfield Legacy HS, TX) already looks the part of a future big leaguer at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds. He has premium arm strength behind the plate with true carry to second and simple strength that produces gap power with more to come in the future. He projects well behind the plate with added athleticism in the past year, but he could also make the move to first base at some point in the future. RHP Jared Southard (Rouse HS, TX) is already physically strong at 6-foot-2, 205 pounds and can run his fastball up to 95, pitching in the 90-93 range with a 76-78 mph curveball and an 82-84 mph slider. RHP Evan Vanek (Frisco Heritage HS, TX) has been up to 95 this spring and has some serious arm-side run and sink, pitching at 91-95. RHP/SS Sanson Faltine III (Ft. Bend Travis HS, TX) is an intriguing all-around and athletic two-way player with solid tools. He can play multiple positions, including shortstop, and when he gets on the mound, his fastball will get up to 90 and he can spin a slider. RHP Christopher Benavides (Klein Collins HS, TX) still has plenty of room to fill out, and his fastball has been up to 93, and he shows a sharp slider at 80-82. 3B/RHP Chandler Freeman (Colleyville Heritage HS, TX) is a premium hitter with plenty of power that should allow him to impact the Dallas Baptist lineup early in his career. He can also run his fastball up to 91 and shows feel for three offspeed pitches. RHP Will Swope (The Woodlands HS, TX) has headlined the top of the rotation for The Highlanders the past two seasons and he has solid feel for three pitches—an 89-92 mph fastball, 78-82 mph changeup and 79-83 mph slider. C Jared Alvarez-Lopez (Cypress Ranch HS, TX) has been catching the best pitching staff in Texas the past two seasons and is arguably the top defensive catcher in the state. He has a loose, athletic frame with plenty of arm strength. He already moves, blocks, throws and receives like a minor league backstop. He hit four of his five home runs opening weekend. OF Logan Britt (Colleyville Heritage HS, TX) has some of the most projectable tools in this class. At 6-foot-5, 205 pounds, Britt has been at the top of the Panthers’ lineup and holding down center field. He is very athletic with long strides, plus arm strength and projectable power at the plate. RHP Christian Ruebeck (Denison HS, TX) was 90-94 earlier this spring and flashes a slider with lateral shape at 82-83 mph. SS Brenden Dixon (Argyle HS, TX) has been holding down the middle of the field for the Eagles for more than two years. He already plays like he belongs on every field he steps on and has power from the right side of the plate. OF Rance Rosas (San Angelo Central HS, TX) is a plus runner and has a very simple strength at the plate. 3B Mason Greer (Colleyville Heritage HS, TX) is a switch-hitter with projectable power from both sides of the plate. At 6 feet, 200 pounds, he is an offensive infielder that has the arm strength, footwork, and glove skills to play both third and second at the next level, as well as good bloodlines. RHP/OF Xavier Lovett (Westfield HS, TX) is a super fast-twitch player that has plus arm strength and speed. On the mound, his fastball has been up to 91-93, and he can snap off his slider at 79-80 mph. OF Austin Plante (Lake Travis HS, TX) is a physical left-handed hitter with solid athleticism for his size at 6-foot-4, 225 pounds. Plante has been an instrumental part of the Cavaliers’ offense for the past two seasons. OF/LHP Will Johnston (Keller HS, TX) stands 6-foot-4, 195 pounds with an athletic, high-waisted frame. He projects as a corner bat, but he can also pitch with tilt at 86-89 and break off a 73-75 mph curveball. LHP Colton Bowman (Bullard HS, TX) is a strong southpaw at 6-foot-2, 190-pounds who has run his fastball up to 90 this spring. SS Darrel Hernaiz (El Paso Americas HS, TX) has smooth actions at shortstop to go with quality in game awareness. OF Dillon Carter (Argyle HS, TX) is a premium defender in centerfield and he has shown power that and a hit tool that have raised his stock this spring. RHPs Thomas Hart (Frisco Wakeland HS, TX) and Ryan Bogusz (Frisco Lone Star HS) are both 6-foot-2 with room to fill out, and have been into the low-90s this spring. Bogusz has flashed a 78-82 mph curveball and Hart shows arm-side life at 91-92. SS Armani Sanchez (Ft. Bend Reagan HS, TX) has smooth actions and arm strength, to go with a leveraged hack with an athletic leg kick.
