An undersized 5-foot-10, 180-pound right-hander with a quick arm and big breaking curveball, the Patriots ace got off to a slow start on Thursday against Bradley. He allowed six runs (two earned) in the first inning and a solo home run in the second before settling in. After the second inning home run, the bulldog Meador got some fire in his belly, quickened his pace and pitched three scoreless innings. He cruised into the sixth before a walk, home run and another walk led to his exit after 104 pitches. His fastball reached 93 and sat 90-91 with spin rates in the 2200-2300s. Once he found the release point on his breaking ball it flashed plus and sat consistently average to better in innings 3-4-5. When it was on, it was a swing/miss 11/5-shaped hammer with power and depth. It led to 11 strikeouts in his 5 IP. As a usable third pitch, Meador showed a firm changeup to left-handed hitters at 85-86 mph. For the season Meador is 6-1 with a 3.04 ERA. He has struck out 62 against 25 walks and 34 hits in 47.1 IP.
Cape Cod- A high-profile recruit for TCU, but he struggled in limited action over the last two springs and entered the transfer portal. He's now headed to Dallas Baptist. He was very good in a relief role for for Y-D this summer, posting a 3.62 ERA and a 34-8 K-BB mark in 27.1 innings. He's a 5-foot-10, 180-pound bulldog with a quick arm that produced 93-94 mph heat and a promising slider that flashes good bite, as well as a developing changeup.
RHP. Struck out the side in the first inning. The first whiff came on a fading changeup at 82 and then he got swings-and-misses up in the zone with 90 mph fastballs. He allowed a hit and walk to start the second, but stranded them with a pop-up sandwiched between two strikeouts. He allowed two runs in the third on a hit batter and two hard hits while striking out two more to finish with seven in three innings. His fastball was up to 91-92, sitting at 88-90. He used his changeup more, but still flashed his usual 11/5 curveball in the mid 70s.
6.28.18
In the second game, RHP Jacob Meador (Centennial HS, TX) pitched the final three innings and struck out eight batters, allowing just one baserunner on a walk. He struck out the final seven hitters he faced. A Texas Christian recruit, Meador stands at 5-foot-10, 163 pounds and is known for spinning an above-average curveball. He flashed it in this outing, showing sharp 11/5 shape with depth at 76-78, but most of his swings and misses came on his fastball, which was 87-90 with excellent finish through the zone. Six of the eight strikeouts came on his fastball, including the last five. He also flashed a running changeup at 82.
2018 TOS
RHP Jacob Meador (Centennial HS, TX) started for Pride and also logged five innings. He wasn’t as dominant as Short, but pitched well and didn’t get help from his defense, which committed four errors behind him and five total for the game. Meador is undersized at 5-foot-10, 168 pounds and allowed just two walks while striking out three. He has a long arm action and a fastball that was 87-90. It was mostly straight, but did flash some arm-side run at times. His curveball is his biggest weapon, featuring sharp, downer break at 76-78, though it was looser at times today. He also mixed in a changeup at 81-83.
8.11.18
RHP Jacob Meador (Burleson Centennial HS, TX) got an inning of work in Monday, facing four batters and striking out, and returned to start for the Rangers Friday. It was business as usual for him in the first inning, as he struck out the side.
6.18.18
TCU commit 2019 RHP Jacob Meador (Burleson Centennial HS) was 91-93 in one inning of work. Meador also has one of the best breaking balls in his class with a 75-78 mph curveball with tight spin and 11/5 shape.
08.12.17
2019 RHP Jacob Meador, a TCU commit, had some of the more electric stuff of the event as his fastball sat 88-90 from a long, whippy arm stroke. What separated Meador from the other talented pitchers was his ability to control his breaking ball. He showed feel for throwing a tight curveball early in counts with sharp, bigger break that was nearly 12/6, and then later was able to put hitters away with a filthy slider at 75-77 was quickly in and out of the zone. His changeup was 83-84, and will be a weapon in the future. Meador attacked the zone and looked like a bulldog on the mound. He may only be 5-foot-11, 170-pounds, but he has the arsenal of a future starter, and will likely be called upon to get big outs in Fort Worth.
06.26.17 - TCU recruit. 5-foot-11, 170-pound, athletic frame. The right-hander has a quick arm stroke with his fastball sitting 88-90 mph in the bullpen. His slider is a swing and miss pitch with excellent depth and tight rotation at 74-75 mph.
10.23.16
5-foot-10, 170-pound TCU recruit, works from a high-¾ slot with an athletic delivery. The fastball has some arm-side run at 87-89 mph with a swing-and-miss slider with slurvey-type action and good depth.
