Quick Hits: Fall Underclass Standouts
October 26, 2020
With an eventful weekend of baseball at Las Vegas Ballpark in the books, we now take a look back at the standouts from the Fall Underclass Showcase. This showcase included a Pro-Style Workout where players ran a Laser Timed 60 Yard Dash, took a TrackMan and Blast Motion analyzed Batting Practice, Catcher Pop Times/Velocity, Outfield Evaluations/Velocity and Infield Evaluation/Velocity concluding with pitches bullpens. Along with the standout performers highlight in the Quick Hits, we will also be diving into the Statistical Analysis of each metric recorded at the event.
Interesting look at ‘24 SS/P Maddox Riske (NV) who showed off some quality glove-to-hand ability w/ some arm strength. Quick hands from the right side at the plate.

Maddox Riske - IF / Bishop Gorman
2024 IF, Maddox Riske, came into the Fall Underclass event with excitement around him as he could be the “next” shortstop to come through the Bishop Gorman program. He possesses advanced actions for his age with the ability to range laterally while showing comfort in both the forehand and backhand plays complimented by an accurate arm that topped out at 76 mph with some carry. This past weekend, he made his first appearance at shortstop for the Gaels and transitioned well to the speed of the game. At the plate, Riske lived in the middle of the field with a level bath path that produced line drives with flashes of power potnetinal to the pull side. The hit tools is slightly behind the fielding tool, but the confidence is their and he projects to find himself at the plate in the near future with consistent at bats he will receive as the baseball begins to open back up in Nevada.

Sam Kane - IF/RHP / Bishop Manogue
Sam Kane produced one best overall days at the Fall Underclass event yesterday at Las Vegas Ballpark. He showed feel for multiple infield positions at shortstop and first base where he flowed through the fielding process with ease into a smooth arm action that tied an event best Infield Velocity of 84 mph across the diamond. He drove the ball from gap to gap round of batting practice where we saw flashes of his present power evident by his 96 mph Exit Velocity. The Bishop Manogue product continues to prove himself as a hard worker with positively trending metrics at each of his Prep Baseball Report events. Though he did not pitch yesterday, he does have some potential on the mound as well with a loose arm that should continue improving in the velocity category as he adds more physicality to his 5-foot-11 frame.

Connor Apeceche - C/IF / Green Valley
A member of Nevada’s first ever Junior Future Games team, Connor Apeceche will be a player to keep an eye on in the coming years. The 2024 Catcher/Corner Infielder can hold down both positions with some first step quickness and impressive instincts through the ball for a player at his age. Though he does still have some youthfulness to his appearance, he does possess some present strength in his 5-foot-10 frame with a sturdy lower half that he uses well on the offensive side of the ball. Throughout his batting practice session, he lived mostly middle-other way with a top TrackMan Exit Velocity of 85.4 mph. This is a prospect whose game should parallel his physical development as a potential big time power bat that has a knack for finding the barrel, spraying the ball to all fields which should solidy him as a middle of the order bat type player.
